- Episode 1.19 - Reunion with Eileen
“This is…!”
“Looks like we hit the mark.”
Mistia’s eyes widened. She activated her magic to trace the remnants and arrived at a certain wagon. A man in a black hood stood there alone. As they argued, the man drew his sword, prompting Skia to swiftly knock him unconscious. When they checked the wagon, they found about ten women, their faces covered and hands bound.
The women had been abducted and were being transported. Mistia sighed in relief—she was glad they made it in time.
“I will free you now. Skia, your dagger.”
“As you wish.”
Skia pulled a dagger from a hidden sheath in his arm and handed it to Mistia. With his other hand, he took out an identical dagger and began cutting the women’s restraints.
All of them trembled pitifully, their faces pale. Mistia furrowed her brows. She was relieved to have found them, but the thought of being even a day late sent a chill down her spine.
She spoke in the gentlest voice she could muster.
“You are safe now. The Redfield family will take full responsibility for your protection.”
“Oh, oh…! Thank you, my lady!”
One of the women burst into tears and clung to Mistia. Though surprised, Mistia gently placed a hand on the stranger’s shoulder.
“You must have been so scared.”
She wanted to smile to reassure them, but she couldn’t. Yet, even with her downcast eyes, she looked like a compassionate goddess. The women around her held their breath. Perhaps this lady was an angel sent by the heavens. Their eyes welled with tears at the thought.
“The Redfield family? Could it be… are you Lady Mistia Redfield?”
A familiar voice reached her ears, and Mistia looked up. There, standing before her—
(Eileen!)
Wavy flaxen hair, deep green eyes, and charming freckles. Eileen, slightly older than Mistia, was much thinner than she remembered, a testament to the hardships she had endured.
Memories of past happiness resurfaced in Mistia’s mind—her loving parents, and Eileen, the lady’s maid who had cherished her. The one who had desperately protected her mother’s keepsake. Mistia stood up and embraced Eileen tightly.
“Eileen, Eileen! I’m so glad…!”
“My lady? Is it truly you? Oh, thank the heavens…”
The two held each other, weeping. Watching them quietly, Skia murmured to himself.
“‘Cold-hearted woman’… that’s the last thing she is.”
After a long moment, Mistia finally calmed herself. This was no time to cry—they needed to get the women to safety. There was still a chance that more of the abductors were lurking nearby.
“Forgive me. Everyone, please step into the magic circle. I will use teleportation magic to transport us.”
“T-Teleportation? What kind of magic is that?”
“It will take us instantly to the capital, Asteria.”
“Huh? I’ve never heard of such magic…”
The women exchanged puzzled glances, and understandably so. Teleportation was the kind of magic that people only dreamed of—convenient but supposedly non-existent.
Yet Mistia had discovered it. While searching for a wide-range healing spell to treat their minor wounds, she had come across an unfamiliar incantation.
(This wasn’t in the Light Magic section before… The only thing that’s changed is that I’ve learned Dark Magic. Could it be that magic can be combined?)
Skia shrugged, acknowledging yet again how much stronger she had become.
“Please, trust me.”
Placing a hand over her heart, Mistia pleaded with the women. Seeing this, Eileen smiled.
“Of course, my lady. You saved our lives, after all.”
Following her lead, the other women also voiced their trust.
“Y-Yes! I believe in the Spirit Wielder!”
“Me too!”
“Thank you, everyone.”
The teleportation was a success. Mistia and Skia safely transported the women to the capital, delivering them to their respective homes and handing over the kidnapper to the guards.
Those who had nowhere to return to were temporarily sheltered at the academy under Mary’s supervision. Later, Mistia and Mary would discuss their long-term arrangements.
Word spread quickly, and soon, Mistia’s heroic deeds became the talk of the academy.
And then, the day arrived.
—
Eileen’s heart swelled with pride.
Standing outside the grand hall doors, she followed Mistia and Skia, dressed in a custom-tailored maid uniform reflecting the latest trends.
Today was a joyous occasion—Mistia Redfield’s return to the academy.
Sweat formed in Mistia’s palms from nervousness. At the morning assembly, where all students gathered, she would be formally introduced as a new special scholarship student. The weight of the moment made her legs feel heavy, but she had to press forward.
“Well then, I’m off, Eileen.”
“…! Yes, my lady. Please go forth with confidence.”
Mistia turned to face forward, her silvery hair shimmering as it swayed.
Watching her, Eileen’s cheeks flushed as she smiled at her beloved mistress—the one who had pulled her from the depths of despair.
(I will serve Lady Mistia for the rest of my life. What could be more fortunate than this? To serve such a beautiful princess, as radiant as a silver fairy, and a knight of unparalleled skill…)
Receiving Eileen’s warm gaze, Mistia began to walk, back straight and eyes fixed forward.
“Congratulations, Mistia.”
At her side, Skia offered his heartfelt blessing.
“Thank you.”
Before she could even think, her face softened into a smile. In the past, she had felt the need to force herself to smile—but she now realized that smiles weren’t something to be created; they simply bloomed on their own.
With his hand guiding her, the once colorless world was now bursting with vivid hues. As she encountered more emotions, she was both frightened and exhilarated by their intensity. But Mistia chose to welcome them with open arms, for she knew that by doing so, she would become a mistress truly worthy of his loyalty.
