- Episode 1.31 - I Have Already Fixed It
“Is it true that the Great Spirit of Light has returned!?”
In the Round Table Hall, King Aurant di Asteria, the ruler of the royal capital Asteria, abruptly stood up upon receiving the report from his chancellor. Ever since the spirit had vanished, the capital had been overrun by monsters, teetering on the brink of destruction.
—I do not want the royal capital to fall in my reign. That fervent desire had driven him to work tirelessly without rest, making this news a source of immense relief.
“And where is he now!?”
“It appears he is at the Royal Academy of Magic.”
“The Magic Academy…? Why would he be in such a place?”
“Well…”
Chancellor Rufus readjusted his monocle, which had slipped due to sweat.
“It seems a certain female student summoned the Great Spirit of Light.”
“What…!?”
Aurant’s eyes widened in shock. The Great Spirit of Light, Skia, possessed an immense amount of magical power, far beyond the need for a master. The very idea that someone could summon him was beyond human capability. And for it to be just a mere female student? It was unbelievable, but Rufus was not one to make jokes. Aurant placed his hand on his chin, deep in thought.
(To have captured and concealed the Great Spirit that once protected the royal capital… That is nothing short of an act of treason that has brought great harm to the nation. That girl must be severely punished!)
As Aurant’s expression grew grim, Rufus, sensing his thoughts, spoke up.
“Your Majesty… If you are considering punishing the young lady—Baroness Mistia Redfield—I beg you to reconsider. If you do, our nation may not survive.”
“What nonsense is this? All that is needed is to torture that girl and force her to break the contract.”
“That, Your Majesty, would be true folly. The Great Spirit himself has declared her to be his master. Moreover, Lady Mistia is said to be capable of wielding the highest-tier magic of fire, water, wind, light, and darkness. If we make an enemy of her, it will only result in the meaningless loss of our soldiers.”
Hearing the chancellor’s words, Aurant was left speechless.
“…W-What did you just say? A human who can use the highest-tier magic of all five elements actually exists?”
“Yes.”
Uh… isn’t that impossible to defeat…?
Aurant’s eyes went blank. His knees started to ache, so he sat back down on his throne. As far as he knew, no human had ever wielded highest-tier magic. Such magic was the stuff of legends—capable of wiping an entire kingdom off the map. His gaze drifted to the large map of Asteria spread across his desk.
(Would all of this… just disappear…?)
A weaker part of Aurant curled up inside his mind, hugging his knees. If a mere human casting highest-tier magic could obliterate a kingdom, then what of the Great Spirit Skia…?
Aurant shuddered violently. He was, by nature, a coward.
“In that case… let’s not pursue it.”
“A wise decision, Your Majesty!”
Rufus immediately jumped on Aurant’s reluctant mutter, seizing the chance to praise him. After lifting Aurant’s spirits, the chancellor finally revealed the difficult request he had been holding back.
“Your Majesty, Lady Mistia has requested an audience. How shall we proceed?”
“…I suppose we should meet her.”
Refusing would be terrifying.
“Understood. I will make the arrangements.”
Hearing Aurant’s reply, Rufus let out a breath of relief. Aurant was arrogant and prone to emotional decisions, but his cowardice had, strangely enough, allowed him to govern effectively thus far. For the sake of peace, he needed to remain on the throne a while longer.
Meanwhile, the Great Spirit of Light, Skia, who was expected to have weakened after being summoned, had in fact returned stronger than ever—several times over.
A joyous occasion, but a dangerous one if they failed to control it.
(Just who is this Mistia Redfield…?)
Behind Rufus’s monocle, uncertainty flickered in his gaze.
Thus, the day of the audience arrived.
The audience chamber was a vast hall of polished marble, exuding a cold air of solemnity. The golden throne sat atop a raised platform, adorned with a canopy and a grand banner bearing the emblem of Asteria.
Seated upon the throne, Aurant di Asteria spoke.
“You have returned at last, Great Spirit of Light.”
Before him stood a spirit of hauntingly beautiful features, unchanged from his memory. Beside him, a delicate girl with silver-threaded hair lowered her gaze with an air of fragility—far from someone capable of destroying an entire kingdom.
(Could she truly be Mistia Redfield, the girl who summoned the Great Spirit…?)
To Aurant’s eyes, she appeared frail and insignificant. Emboldened, he spoke grandly.
“And Lady Mistia Redfield, I hear you have something to say to me?”
Mistia executed a graceful curtsy.
“I offer my greetings to the radiant sun of Asteria. I am truly grateful for this audience, Your Majesty. Today, I have come to discuss the future… the fate of the Great Spirit Skia, and to seek your permission regarding his path forward.”
“…So, you truly are his master?”
“Yes, that is correct.”
Aurant let out a long sigh, furrowing his brows.
“Lady Mistia, as you surely know, this being before us is the guardian of the royal capital. The damage caused by the monsters has been immense, and our people continue to perish. I need not say more, but he bears responsibility—surely you understand?”
The implication was clear: hand over Skia to the nation.
Upon hearing this, Mistia quietly clenched her fists.
(Has he ever considered Skia’s feelings? Does he think spirits lack emotions? He acts as if Skia is nothing more than an unbreakable tool meant to fight forever…!)
“Your Majesty, may I ask why Skia must remain the guardian in the first place?”
Her sharp, accusatory tone made the King’s Guards reach for their swords, but Aurant raised a hand to stop them.
“It is obvious. The Guardian Crystal was destroyed, and from it, the Great Spirit of Light was born. Surely, he was sent by the heavens in its place.”
“Thank you for your answer. Then, if the Guardian Crystal were restored and the monsters driven away once more, would Skia no longer bear this responsibility?”
“…! The restoration of the Guardian Crystal…?”
Aurant was struck speechless. He tapped his fingers on the throne’s armrest, deep in thought.
“The best mages have tried countless times and failed. Dozens, no, hundreds have attempted it. Do you truly expect me to believe that a mere girl—”
Then, at that moment—
“I have already fixed it.”
“…What?”
Everyone except Mistia and Skia tilted their heads in confusion.
“…What did you just say?”
Mistia raised her voice clearly this time.
“I have repaired the Guardian Crystal. Please release Skia from his duty as guardian.”
Her resolute words echoed through the chamber.
Aurant, who had dismissed her as just a girl, found himself entranced by her unwavering gaze—like a clear winter sky, without a single cloud.
And then, the doors burst open.
A soldier rushed in, falling to his knees in front of the throne.
“Your Majesty! The monsters around the capital… have all disappeared!”
“What!?”
Aurant stood abruptly, shaken to his core.
