- Episode 2.22 - An Early Spring
Mistia shifted her gaze toward the garden.
In Asteria, roses were already beginning to bloom here and there, but in Tele, they were still in bud. Gilbert, momentarily caught off guard, was bewildered by the sudden topic.
“Ah, ahh… Well, Terre is a bit colder than Asteria. Unfortunately, the roses haven’t bloomed in time.”
“I see… In that case, let me offer you a little entertainment. Lord Solm, please use that magic. Cast it over the entire garden—you may use as much mana as you like.”
Mistia smirked confidently. At her words, Solm blinked in surprise.
“That magic”… She must be referring to the spell he used in Fura Village, the one that made crops grow instantly. Solm glanced at Gilbert. The prince had no expectations for his magic whatsoever and was openly sneering at Mistia.
Even though the ridicule wasn’t directed at him personally, Solm felt an overwhelming sense of frustration. Clenching his fists, he raised his voice.
“I understand. Watch closely—Bountiful Growth!”
Solm extended his hand and chanted the spell. At that moment, a warm breeze swept across the feet of everyone in the garden.
—And so, the performance began.
The vast garden of Tele, once filled only with green leaves, transformed before their eyes. The tightly closed rosebuds started to bloom at an astonishing speed. Red, white, yellow—all the roses burst into full bloom at once, instantly turning the once-dull garden into a breathtaking spectacle.
From the hedges to the archways, everything became adorned with vibrant roses.
The guests couldn’t believe their eyes. A murmur of awe spread throughout the crowd.
“…What?”
Gilbert’s eyes widened in disbelief.
Even the finest gardeners could not have made the roses bloom so magnificently.
Everyone stood in stunned silence, captivated by the sheer beauty of the transformed garden. Then, one by one, voices of admiration arose.
“What an incredibly beautiful magic…”
“To cover an entire garden this vast with a single spell—what a powerful ability!”
“It’s as if spring has arrived early in Terre.”
The guests completely forgot about flattering Gilbert and instead showered Solm with praise.
As she watched the excitement unfold, Mistia elegantly turned to Gilbert with a smile.
“I am pleased that everyone is enjoying themselves… What do you think, Your Highness? This is what earth magic can do.”
“…!”
Gilbert trembled with rage. His pride shattered, his head spun, and his vision darkened. But with great effort, he forced out a response.
“W-What is this nonsense magic?! What use could this possibly have?!”
At Gilbert’s words, Solm stepped forward. Their gazes locked.
Then, Solm straightened his posture and spoke to Gilbert in a calm, instructive tone.
“Gilbert, I do not believe this magic is ‘useless.’ If it can bring smiles to people’s faces, then it is something truly wonderful… Lady Mistia helped me realize that.”
As he spoke, Solm’s expression softened into a sorrowful yet gentle smile.
Gilbert could only stare in shock, unable to argue back.
“Lord Solm…”
Mistia murmured with concern.
Solm took a deep breath. There was something he needed to say to Gilbert.
“Now, I find myself grateful to you. Because of you, I was able to meet such a wonderful master. Farewell, Gilbert… my first master.”
With a quiet, hoarse voice, Solm whispered his final words.
Then, without hesitation, he turned on his heel and walked away.
As he returned to Mistia’s side in silence, Skia gently patted his back in support.
Seeing this, Gilbert suddenly snapped back to reality.
“I-I refuse to accept this! Magic that only makes people smile is worthless—”
Face flushed red, Gilbert continued his tantrum, attempting to hurl more insults at Solm.
But before he could speak further, a voice interrupted.
“…What is all this commotion?”
A rough, hoarse voice.
Everyone, including Mistia, turned toward the source of the voice.
“F-Father…?”
