- Episode 2.26 - The Side Effects of Dark Magic
Mistia clasped her hands tightly and prayed.
Right after that, something like a black mist emerged from Doran’s body and disappeared. His expression became calm, and his breathing stabilized.
“Ugh…”
A small groan. Mistia held her breath and stared at Doran. Before long, his eyelids began to slowly open.
“Your Majesty, I’m so glad you’re awake…!”
Mistia let out a sigh of relief. Doran, looking confused, glanced around and slowly sat up.
“Did I lose consciousness…? And what is this disaster all about? On top of that, my body feels so light!? I feel no pain at all! This has never happened before!”
Doran, clearly flustered, voiced his questions one after another. In response, Skia answered him.
“I cast a purification spell. It should have healed all the abnormal conditions in your body.”
“W-What!? Does that mean my illness is cured as well!?”
“That’s right. Oh, and no need to thank me—you’ll forget everything soon anyway. Now then, I’ll erase the memories of these people and the guests who escaped, and then we’ll return to Asteria.”
With an emotionless expression, Skia raised his hand toward Doran’s head once again. Mistia, upon hearing those words, instinctively jumped up and quickly grabbed his hand.
“W-Wait a moment! Dark magic that erases memories can sometimes affect a person’s personality. Let’s explain the situation to His Majesty first and ask for his judgment, alright?”
Mistia gently tried to stop him, and Skia smiled dreamily at his beloved master.
“You don’t need to worry. I’ll erase them carefully so that doesn’t happen. Only about a week’s worth of memories will be lost. There’s no problem. Oh, but… I might accidentally erase all of
Gilbert’s memories. If that turns him into an empty shell, well, that’s only fair. He did point his sword at you, after all.”
—He should consider himself lucky that I’m not killing him.
Skia’s expression didn’t match his words—his eyes weren’t smiling. A dark aura swirled behind him. Upon hearing those words, Gilbert froze in terror.
(That is a huge problem!?)
Mistia shuddered at how easily Skia was about to use such dangerous dark magic.
“But if you insist, I suppose I could give it a try.”
As always, Skia was soft when it came to Mistia. Now that she had his permission, Mistia began explaining everything to Doran.
“I see… So that’s what happened, and I nearly died. To be frank, I do not believe you were the ones behind it. You not only saved my life but also cured my illness. There is no reason to doubt you.”
“Your Majesty…! Thank you for trusting us.”
Mistia’s eyes sparkled with emotion, and Doran softened his gaze with a gentle smile. However, his expression soon turned serious.
“I trust you, but that does not mean everyone else will. To prove your innocence, we must capture the true culprit. That will take time. So, for now, you must return to Asteria and hide yourselves.
In the meantime, I will do everything in my power to find the real criminal.”
“…You’re right. Staying in Terre any longer may be dangerous.”
Just as Mistia finished speaking, a commotion erupted outside the banquet hall. Most likely, the fleeing guests had called the soldiers.
“You must leave at once.”
Doran’s expression grew tense. Then, Skia spoke.
“…There’s no choice. We’ll teleport back to Asteria. King, capture the real culprit within a week. If you fail, I will erase the memories of everyone involved, including you. Do you understand?”
His low, growling voice left no room for argument.
“S-Skia!”
Mistia called his name, trying to calm him down, but Skia only continued to glare at Doran.
(So scary…! Please, Your Majesty, prove our innocence within a week!)
Otherwise, things will turn out horribly.
“I will do everything in my power to capture the true culprit, Great Spirit. I owe you my life.”
“I will trust those words. …Oh, right. Just in case, I’ll cast a continuous healing spell on you.”
Skia raised his hand over Doran and chanted a spell. Even if his illness was cured, Doran was still so emaciated that he looked like he could collapse at any moment. It would be a problem if he passed out while searching for the culprit.
“Oh, thank you! I feel like I could survive even if I were stabbed with a sword right now!”
Doran gratefully accepted the spell, and Skia gave a small nod. Then, he began chanting the spell for “Teleportation.” In the next moment, the three of them vanished like smoke.
Doran murmured to himself.
“Now then, Gilbert… Who is the real culprit?”
Doran looked down at Gilbert with cold eyes, and sweat began to form on Gilbert’s forehead.
