- Episode 2.35 - Destruction and Rebirth
“Now then, Lord Solm. May I ask for one last favor? I would like you to restore this scorched plain to its original state with your power.”
Being relied on by Mistia made Solm feel excited. He placed a hand on his chest and smiled as if to say, “Of course.”
“If my lady wishes it, I will gladly do so.”
Mistia nodded once and taught Solm the spell.
Then, Solm extended his hand toward the scorched land.
**”Great Light Tree of Abundance, Lux Hugue.”**
A warm breeze rose gently from beneath Solm’s feet. At the center of the plain, a single golden sprout began to emerge. The sprout grew rapidly, and soon, it became a massive tree of light, towering over the sky.
The Terre soldiers standing on the plain lifted their heads.
As they gazed upon the majestic, golden tree, everyone was completely captivated by its divine radiance.
“Beautiful…”
One soldier murmured. Then, from the tree, tiny lights like fireflies appeared and began to descend upon the earth.
As the light touched the ground, small sprouts emerged. The endless shower of light continued, bringing forth greenery and flowers. The Greenvale Plain, which had been covered in ashes and flames just moments ago, was now transforming into a breathtaking landscape, as if covered by a carpet of green.
A gentle breeze swept across the now lush, grassy field. Before anyone realized it, the great fissure that had split the plain in two had also vanished, returning to its original state.
— A stark contrast to the destructive magic from earlier, this was a spell of overwhelming beauty and kindness.
Gilbert, watching Solm as he cast the spell, collapsed onto the plain in defeat. He recalled the words Solm had once spoken to him when they had reunited.
*”Gilbert, I don’t believe this magic is ‘useless.’ The fact that it can bring smiles to people’s faces makes it truly incredible.”*
Looking around, Gilbert could see that the soldiers were indeed smiling. Smiles so innocent that they seemed out of place on a battlefield.
“…………”
Faced with such an overwhelming display of power, Gilbert had no choice but to accept his fate. He hung his head in resignation.
At that moment—
“Gilbert!”
A thunderous voice rang out, shaking the very air.
Everyone turned toward the source of the voice.
Gilbert’s eyes widened in disbelief as he saw the figure before him.
Riding a white warhorse and leading the king’s soldiers was—
“F-Father…!?”
Gilbert fell back in shock, as if he had seen a ghost.
Before him stood none other than King Doran—the very man Gilbert had cut down with his own hands.
“I-I know I struck him down…! Why is he still alive…!?”
Trembling, Gilbert pointed at Doran on his horse.
It was true that Doran had been slain by Gilbert. However, thanks to Skia’s **Sustained Healing Magic**, he had managed to survive.
Doran, knowing nothing of Gilbert’s ignorance, looked down at his son with cold eyes.
Gilbert suddenly ran forward and knelt before Doran.
The soldiers raised their spears, pressing them against Gilbert’s throat to prevent him from getting any closer. Yet, he ignored them and pleaded with his father.
“Father, please have mercy! I… I was deceived by Thomas! I never intended for this to happen…!”
Still on his knees, Gilbert desperately clung to Doran.
Suddenly, Doran dismounted his horse and stepped toward him.
“Father…”
Hoping for mercy, Gilbert forced a smile.
Doran quietly opened his mouth to speak, his eyes filled with sorrow.
“My son, I love you. No matter how much of a fool you are—even if you strike me down with a sword, I will always love you. However, Terre has its laws. And the law does not forgive a man who slays his king and starts a war against a friendly nation.
Though I was often unwell, I bear responsibility for leaving you in Thomas’ hands. In the years ahead, I will devote my life to atoning for my sins—both to Asteria and to the people of Terre.
You and I will atone for our crimes, each in our own way.”
As he listened, Gilbert’s expression darkened with despair.
“F-Father… Why?”
“…Do not call me ‘Father.’ Address me as ‘Your Majesty.’ Soldiers, take this traitor away!”
As Gilbert was dragged away, screaming and crying, Doran did not once look back.
Then, he ordered his men to bring forth an object.
“A white flag…”
Watching from a distance, Skia murmured.
The wind blew gently, making the white flag in Doran’s hands flutter.
— A clear sign of surrender.
Doran commanded his soldiers to lay down their swords and began walking slowly toward Mistia’s group.
Mistia let out a sigh of relief.
“King Doran, I’m glad you’re safe.”
“There was a moment I thought all was lost, but in the end, things turned out well.”
Skia shrugged with a weary sigh.
Mistia looked back and forth between the spirits, then bowed her head to them.
“It’s all thanks to you, Skia and Lord Solm. I am truly grateful.”
“What are you saying? It was because of you that we avoided heavy casualties. You truly are my one and only supreme master.”
“That’s right, my lady. Neither Skia nor I have enough magic power to cast such spells. Thanks to you, this war was prevented.”
Hearing their words, Mistia blushed with embarrassment.
“Y-You’re both praising me too much! Let’s just say we all did our best!”
Flustered, Mistia waved her hands, making the spirits chuckle.
— From that day on, Mistia’s name was known not only in Asteria but also throughout Terre.
The series of events became a widely sung **”Heroic Tale”** among bards.
Terre had committed the great sin of marching against its ally, Asteria.
Yet, as if punished by the heavens, a **Stampede** of rampaging monsters had nearly wiped out the Terre army.
But the **Hero Who Saved the Nation** had saved even the enemy forces, wiped out the monster horde with her magic, and restored the land to its former beauty.
This **Heroic Tale** served as a powerful deterrent to other nations eyeing Asteria.
Thus, Mistia ended up saving Asteria—not once, but twice.
