The Strongest Beast-Tamer (Transmigration)(GL) - Chapter 10
Yi Xian had every reason to be cold toward that madwoman. Eighty percent of her misfortune could be blamed on being implicated by her. The one Lord Lu was looking for was clearly that madwoman, but Yi Xian had simply been unlucky enough to be thrown into the same prison cell by mistake.
From all that had happened, Yi Xian concluded that the madwoman and Lord Lu were enemies. The enemy of an enemy was barely tolerable as a friend, as long as that madwoman did not keep mentioning those so-called three conditions.
Yi Xian was not stupid. If she had no value, no one would even spare her a glance, let alone offer conditions. But that did not mean she would be led by the nose.
“You—”
“I suppose you do not want to see that Lord Lu any time soon.”
The bear beast pounded its chest and looked down at Yi Xian from above. It regarded her like an ant. The strange thing was that the little ant who had been jumping around just moments ago now stood perfectly still.
ROAR~
The roar left Yi Xian dizzy and nauseated. She was gambling that she still held a sliver of value, just enough to keep her alive.
When the bear beast stomped down with its massive paw, Yi Xian dodged aside. A gentle white light burst from her body. She staggered back as if something had taken over her body. Her right hand waved involuntarily, and the white light in her line of sight transformed into a crystal-clear fox. It shimmered with faint halos of light. Its long, icy blue eyes narrowed slightly. At a glance, it looked as sacred as a god descending from the heavens.
The white fox lifted its head and howled at the moon. The unease stirred up by the bear’s roar faded in an instant. The giant beast and the small fox locked eyes from afar.
In the next second, the white fox leapt into the air. Beneath the moonlight, it drew an elegant arc as it landed on the bear beast’s shoulder. With a single swipe of its claws, bl00d scattered in all directions. Yi Xian’s face was splashed with the beast’s warm bl00d.
The roar shook the ground twice.
Yi Xian could not move. She felt that in the next moment, she might be crushed into pulp. But to her surprise, the bear beast never took that next step. The white fox had successfully drawn all of its attention. As for her, someone as insignificant as an ant was not worth noticing.
The white fox kept slashing at the bear beast with its claws. Every swing glinted like a blade. The wounds it inflicted seemed real, and when it blinded the bear in one eye, the beast did not last much longer before crashing heavily to the ground.
BOOM!
The world went silent.
Yi Xian saw only red. The white fox, proud and graceful in victory, approached her. Strangely, not a drop of bl00d stained its fur. Its lazy eyes swept over her once before it turned into white light and dove back into her body.
Yi Xian could move again.
She first checked the bear beast’s body. It was truly dead. It was a pity she could not take its paw, fur, or meat. She quickly cleaned the bl00d from her clothes and limped away.
“Head east. You need to wash the bl00d off your body, or greater trouble will find you.”
Yi Xian paused but followed the madwoman’s directions and walked east. It led her farther from Kus City. Perhaps the madwoman had her own reasons.
“Thanks.”
Until she found a river nearby, the voice in her mind did not speak again.
Yi Xian did not dare go too deep. If she slipped and became some wild beast’s dinner while bathing, that would be true bad luck. As she washed, she could not help but wonder what kind of creature that white fox had been. In terms of strength, a fox against a bear would be no contest. Yet the small fox had clearly won.
Maybe the fox had simply used clever moves. She had to admit that the fox had been fast beyond a normal animal.
Most importantly, where had it gone?
Yi Xian even checked herself, but found nothing out of place. That white fox and the madwoman had both appeared after she lost consciousness that night.
It had to be that woman’s doing.
After washing, Yi Xian found a sturdy tree. She hugged it and watched the moonlight. Before falling asleep, she wondered if that little one missed her.
The night air was cool. A breeze swept through, rustling the leaves down from the branches. Maybe it was the exhaustion of the day, or the adrenaline crash after so much running and fighting, but once her nerves relaxed, Yi Xian quickly fell asleep.
A fox-shaped mark, no bigger than a palm, glowed faintly on her chest. After a few flashes, it vanished.
After several days of enjoying better meals thanks to Yi Xian, the large and small residents of the house now sat staring at each other with growling stomachs. Even the purple yuanxiao’s face showed clear disappointment.
They managed to scrape by on the first missed meal. By the second, the little one dragged a stool to the door and sat holding the purple yuanxiao in her arms, looking outside and babbling who knew what. Probably only she understood.
…
By the time dawn came and Yi Xian returned to the place where the bear beast had died, all that remained of the once mountain-sized creature was an empty husk. The eyes the white fox had gouged out stared blankly ahead.
An inexplicable sadness filled her heart. But with a new journey ahead, the unpleasant memories quickly faded.
“Aren’t you curious what helped you defeat that wild beast yesterday?”
Yi Xian almost laughed. She had been waiting for this madwoman to lose patience and speak first. If she had asked, she would have handed over control. Who knew what kind of new ‘three conditions’ the madwoman might try to impose?
“Oh? And what was that?”
“You are a human, so you must have heard of Phantom Beasts, right?”
“Nope.”
A strange silence spread in her mind. Yi Xian nearly burst out laughing.
“You should know I am just an ordinary human. Otherwise, why would I end up birthing children for beastmen?”
Anyone with any ability would never have fallen so low.
“Someone is coming.”
“…Huh?”
Yi Xian thought she had misheard, but soon, a dazzling golden figure burst into her field of vision. After having seen the bear beast’s ugliness and bulk, she suddenly thought, “Huh, this new beast form actually looked rather impressive.”
