The Strongest Beast-Tamer (Transmigration)(GL) - Chapter 49
The scenery around them shifted rapidly, wind howling past her ears. As they were about to leave Yundan Peak, Yi Xian was both furious and anxious. She blamed herself for letting her guard down, and she cursed the beast for exploiting every possible opportunity. What worried her more was that if this continued and she was dragged back to the Beast Tribe, she might lose her freedom forever.
Qingshan Sect would never sacrifice the opportunity to open the Watermark Secret Realm with the help of the beastmen alliance just for the sake of a lowly follower like her.
Yi Xian warned, “Put me down, or don’t blame me for being rude.”
Lan Tong ignored her. Holding her with one arm while grabbing onto tree branches with the other, she moved swiftly, leaping forward and covering great distances in a blink. Suddenly, her grip faltered. Looking down, she found two slender glowing needles embedded in her wrist.
They fell abruptly to the ground. The moment they hit, a massive lion cushioned their fall, and Yi Xian landed squarely on its back. As Lan Tong struggled to get up, Yi Xian rolled away like a carp, swiftly putting three meters between them. “Don’t move. Otherwise, your claws might never function again.”
In her panic, Yi Xian had recalled a vital human pressure point. She had stabbed with a try-and-see mindset, but it had actually worked.
She looked at her two needle segments with regret, then turned and ran. But after just a few steps, a powerful force threw her to the ground. Lan Tong’s furry paw pressed into her back, and her massive head moved to sniff at her neck. A wave of warmth washed over her back. The wet, sticky sensation disgusted Yi Xian.
“Damn it, stop licking me.”
The more she shouted, the more vigorously the lion licked. It undid all the careful bandaging she had applied earlier, leaving the area raw and irritated. Yi Xian’s danger alarms blared. She struggled several times, but Lan Tong’s brute force pinned her down every time. She could feel the beast’s tongue moving lower and quickly summoned her little pony.
Light burst out, revealing their location clearly. But the pressure on her back didn’t lessen.
Yi Xian gritted her teeth. “If you don’t let go, I’ll scream.”
Whether it was the light in the darkness or her threat, the weight on her back suddenly lifted. But before she could scramble far, strong arms pulled her back again.
“Yi Xian, come home with me.”
Yi Xian felt their definitions of “home” were worlds apart. Her idea of home required mutual respect. This beast only acted on its own will, never caring whether others agreed or not.
“Lan Tong, we are different races.”
Lan Tong calmly pulled out the two needle segments from her wrist and replied casually, “I know.”
Yi Xian turned to reason with her. “If you understand that, then you should find a beastwoman like yourself. Let me go. Let yourself go.”
Lan Tong squinted at her. “Before the Beast God, you vowed to give me another cub.”
What was she, a breeding tool?
Yi Xian couldn’t hold back. She slapped her hard. Hitting a beast was nothing like hitting a human. The slap echoed loudly in the quiet night, startling even herself.
Lan Tong’s expression did not change. She remained shamelessly calm, though her eyes stayed on Yi Xian with a strange, unfocused gaze. It seemed that the Light Spirit still affected beastmen’s vision.
“You swore it yourself. Did you forget?”
Yi Xian was trapped in that maddening limbo where she wanted to scream but couldn’t, and wanted to beat her up but had no strength.
“Can’t you find another mate back in your tribe? Someone with the same beast form? There are plenty of women willing to bear your second, third, or even fourth cub. Get lost. As far as you can.”
“I can’t. Only you.”
Yi Xian felt like she was punching cotton. It was maddening.
“I don’t want to. Do you hear me? I don’t want to. I don’t agree. I don’t consent. Lan Tong, have you ever asked what I want?”
Lan Tong looked genuinely puzzled. “Why not?”
Yi Xian thought to herself that there could not possibly be a “why” here. If their roles were reversed, anyone would see that this was not something a decent person would do.
“Lan Tong, forced affection brings no sweetness. If you really have what it takes, make me want to return to the Beast Tribe willingly. Stop barging into Qingshan Sect. Stop kidnapping people. You can catch me, but I can still escape. If you make me go willingly, even if you try to drive me away, I won’t leave. Which do you think is better, force or consent?”
Lan Tong stared at her for a while, her bright blue eyes flickering restlessly. Yi Xian felt a creeping unease, as though the beast were scheming something.
“Who’s there?”
“I think I saw a light.”
“Was it here? Let’s check it out. Ever since those beastmen arrived, all the peaks are on high alert. Patrols have increased. We better not mess up.”
Yi Xian guessed it was the flash from her little pony that alerted the people at Yundan Peak. Still, they had moved fast.
“If I shout, even if you escape, the entire Qingshan Sect will be alerted. The alliance between humans and beastmen might fall apart just because of your whim.”
Lan Tong glanced disdainfully in that direction. “Will you bear my cub willingly, then?”
Bear your damned cub!
Yi Xian almost screamed for help right then and there, hoping Qingshan Sect would kill the beast on the spot. However, in the end, reason prevailed.
“What do you think?”
Lan Tong stared unblinking at her, then agreed with suspicious ease. “Fine.”
Suddenly, she wrapped her arms around Yi Xian’s waist and bolted, moving them to another location. Only when she was sure there was no one nearby did she pin Yi Xian against a tree and begin tearing open her clothes, pressing against her.
Yi Xian elbowed her, but Lan Tong easily deflected it.
She growled, “You just promised to wait for my consent. Now you’re going back on your word?”
Lan Tong lowered her head and sucked gently at Yi Xian’s fire-burned wound. “I’m healing you.”
Heal your damned self.
Yi Xian had already applied medicine. If not for the licking earlier, it wouldn’t have worsened. Still, this step back from Lan Tong relieved her greatly.
As long as she refused to return with her, what could Lan Tong do?
Feeling better, Yi Xian didn’t bother arguing about her rough methods. But when Lan Tong seemed ready to move on to other parts of her body, Yi Xian kicked her away. “Don’t push your luck. Get out of here while no one’s spotted you.”
Lan Tong gave her a regretful look, then turned and ran.
On the way back, Yi Xian suddenly remembered her two needle segments. Damn it! That beast didn’t even return them!
She had planned to spend the next three days healing and cultivating her skills. But the very next morning, she was awoken by Duanmu Ya’s shouting. Looking outside, she saw Bao Tan standing in the courtyard, glaring back at Duanmu Ya.
“What are you doing here?”
“Yeah! Yundan Peak doesn’t mix with Yunmiao Peak. Go back. You’re not welcome here.”
“I’m not here for you. I’m here for her.”
Yi Xian looked at him in confusion. “Me?”
Bao Tan quickly stepped around Duanmu Ya to face her. “I spent all night trying to figure out how you avoided my water domain. You have to tell me. How did you do it?”
Yi Xian was surprised. “You thought about that all night?”
“Of course! And I still can’t figure it out. Especially since your spiritual power is so low and your attacks are weak. Your phantom beast is just a Light Spirit. No offense, but it can’t even attack. So how did you do it?”
Duanmu Ya put her hands on her hips. “Hey! What do you mean low power and weak attacks? Are you here to pick a fight? Want me to call someone to beat your teeth in?”
Yi Xian noticed Bao Tan’s eyes seemed unfocused and smirked. “My little pony’s attacks aren’t weak. Otherwise, you wouldn’t still be half-blind.”
Bao Tan didn’t deny it. “Okay, I admit your phantom beast is pretty good. Very pure Light Spirit. But still, just tell me your secret!”
Yi Xian shook her head. “No secret. I’ve always been fast.”
“Impossible!”
Yi Xian didn’t know how to deal with him. Her spatial teleportation was a life-saving skill. In the future, it might even be key to her survival. How could she just reveal it?
She glanced at Duanmu Ya for help. Understanding, Duanmu Ya grabbed Bao Tan by the collar. “She already told you. Why won’t you leave? What, are you like that Chu Chen guy, can’t handle losing?”
While they argued, Yi Xian slipped away to a sunny spot to cultivate. But when she returned that evening, Li Zhong grabbed her at the door.
“Don’t go in. He’s been here all day.”
Yi Xian was stunned. “All day?”
Li Zhong nodded. “Duanmu Ya told me to let you know. Stay away for now. He has two matches tomorrow, so he probably won’t linger.”
It was rare to find someone so obsessed over a single answer.
Yi Xian was impressed. After thinking it over, she headed to the library. She couldn’t access the second or third floors, but the first floor still had scrolls she could browse.
She grabbed one at random. It was a technique scroll called Corpse-Shattering Palm.
Remembering the Beast Taming Scroll the madwoman had given her, she tossed it back disinterestedly. Since returning to the human world, she rarely practiced that technique. The madwoman had only given her the upper volume, and only she knew the lower. That white fox in her consciousness had been motionless all this time, barely clinging to life.
Worse still, the technique couldn’t be used in public. Especially not in competitions. Qingshan Sect was likely the madwoman’s old sect. If that was true, someone here might recognize the technique. Using it could bring fatal consequences.
“What are you looking for?”
“Huh?”
Yi Xian jumped. She turned around to see someone she never expected standing behind her.
Xie Ying casually picked up a scroll from the bookshelf and glanced at it. “If you’re looking for a technique that suits you, I might be able to offer some suggestions.”
“Xie Ying definitely knows who you are. Don’t ask me why. It’s a woman’s intuition.”
Nian Yunyin’s voice still echoed clearly in Yi Xian’s ears. If it had just been Nian Yunyin, she might have weighed her words more carefully. But with the Qi family’s Qi Yun saying the same thing, it held an entirely different weight.
Yi Xian looked around with a sudden idea and saw that only the two of them stood before this row of shelves. “Are you talking to me?”
Xie Ying’s delicate brows lifted slightly. “Yes, Yi Xian, the little follower of Miss Duanmu from Yundan Peak. You made it to the finals on your own merit. Your potential should not be underestimated.”
So she had been thoroughly investigated.
Yi Xian recalled the host’s past tone and demeanor. “Thank you for the praise, Senior Sister. The senior brother of Blazing Flame Peak said that after the finals, I would be allowed to join their peak. Being a little follower is only temporary. My spiritual root just awakened a little late, that’s all.”
A slight stiffness crept into Xie Ying’s expression. Her gaze lowered, her lips pressing into a thin line. “If I were to invite you to join Mingwang Peak, would you accept?”
Yi Xian let out an exaggerated gasp. “Mingwang Peak? Can you convince Peak Master Mingyi to take me as a disciple? If I enter the inner court like that, will I get the same resources you do?”
Xie Ying’s lips tightened into a straight line. “Let me report to my master first. What do you mean, your spiritual root awakened late?”
Yi Xian’s excitement dimmed a little. “Just what it sounds like. Very late.”
Xie Ying nodded, then cautiously asked, “You seem close to the young miss of the Duanmu family. How did you two meet?”
Seeing her throwing questions left and right, Yi Xian chose to redirect. “Senior Sister, you mentioned you could help me choose a suitable technique. I’d like to check the second and third floors. That’s allowed, right?”
Such a small request was nothing for Xie Ying. “Why those floors?”
Yi Xian answered bluntly. “The good techniques are obviously on the higher floors. These first-floor scrolls are only suitable for outer court disciples. I want to become a divine-level Beast Tamer. I can’t afford to be careless when choosing.”
Xie Ying looked as if she had just accidentally bitten into a half-dead fly. Yi Xian nearly burst into laughter but had to keep up her silly act. If Xie Ying truly knew her, she would know that this was how the original host behaved, always overconfident, lazy, and unfocused.
Following behind Xie Ying, Yi Xian watched her pull out a golden token. The moment it touched the floor, the staircase to the second level appeared. Before this, Yi Xian had tried climbing it but was always bounced back. Now, she could finally step into the second floor properly. As the mist parted, it brought a sudden clarity, like seeing the moon through clouds. “Why are the scrolls all flying?”
The second floor was completely different from the first. Downstairs, the books obediently sat in place. But here, they floated midair in chaotic disorder, flying about like haunted objects. The scene was dizzying.
Xie Ying explained, “If you wish to choose a technique, you must subdue it. If you cannot, then it’s not meant for you. On this floor, I cannot help. You must pick on your own.”
Yi Xian understood. These techniques had personalities of their own. It was all about fate. Though she wasn’t sure if Xie Ying spoke the truth, she had no intention of letting her interfere anyway. With a touch of regret in her tone, she replied, “Then I’ll just try it myself.”
Xie Ying made no further move to help and ascended to the third floor.
Yi Xian began glancing around, casually touching scrolls as she went. One would dart away, then another. In the blink of an eye, they vanished from sight, all looking far too similar to tell apart. Clearly, Xie Ying hadn’t lied.
She summoned Little Pony and used her mind to instruct it to help create a distraction on the side.
For all she knew, Xie Ying could be secretly watching her.
Yi Xian had no desire to pick an unsuitable technique just for show. That would be a waste with no gain.
Little Pony played its part cleverly. It released glimmers of light toward the third-floor staircase. As the light appeared, scrolls gathered around it like a circus act, spinning and circling.
While chaos unfolded, Yi Xian roamed through the floor, picking up any scroll that caught her eye just to check the name. After a while, she still hadn’t found one that moved her heart.
She was a Light Spirit Beast Tamer, capable of both offense and support. According to Nian Yunyin, when trained properly, a support-focused Light Spirit user could become even stronger than an attacker. Her experience in the matches had confirmed this. Properly using support techniques was not something to underestimate. The Nine-Section Needle Light proved that.
Though she favored offense, Yi Xian had realized that when facing other Beast Tamers, her light-based attacks were pitifully weak.
With that clarity, everything made sense. Yi Xian formed a small cluster of light spirit energy in her hands and began gently touching the scrolls. Soon, one or two reacted. She picked them up and saw they were Earth-level techniques.
She thought of the Nine-Section Needle Light. Though a high-grade human-level tool, its support power was staggering. Yi Xian felt she might be getting greedy. What she truly wanted was a human-level technique.
After weighing the pros and cons, she decisively let go of the two Earth-level scrolls.
If she couldn’t find one she truly liked, she would rather have none at all.
The scrolls drawn by her light spirit gathered near Little Pony. Yi Xian headed toward the more silent, unmoving scrolls, stopping occasionally. Eventually, in a dusty corner, she found one covered in cobwebs. She sent a wisp of light spirit energy toward it. When it remained still, she picked it up and read its name.
Human-level technique. Radiant Blessing.
Joy lit her heart. Just as she grasped it, the scroll zipped away from her hands. She had finally found the support technique she was looking for. There was no way she would let it go. “Little Pony, get that one.”
Little Pony zoomed over and unleashed a wave of light purification. The scroll paused. Yi Xian lunged and grabbed it. But just as her fingers closed, it slipped free again and shot into the distance.
“After it!”
Human and pony chased a scroll across the second floor. Perhaps the purification had worked because this scroll began to emit a small glow, like a guiding light in the darkness. It stood out clearly among the others, making it easier to follow.
Little Pony kept pace, shooting balls of light. The scroll darted left and right, actively dodging the attacks. It seemed to possess intelligence. Yi Xian suddenly thought of her Five-Section Needle Light. To prevent the scroll from escaping again, she quickly added the final two sections, forming the full Seven-Section Needle Light. With it, she launched a strike at the elusive scroll.
Xie Ying suddenly appeared. “Need my help?”
Her sudden arrival blocked half the view. Yi Xian’s next sweep hit the wrong scroll, and the glowing one used the chance to flee again. Narrowing her eyes, she flicked her wrist, directing the Seven-Section Needle Light at Xie Ying. A defensive shield formed. “Ah! Senior Sister, sorry, sorry. Let me catch that scroll first, then I’ll explain.”
She darted off with Little Pony. The scroll turned a corner. Yi Xian signaled for them to split up. Little Pony took the left, she took the right. At the bend, Little Pony struck the scroll. Yi Xian’s needle light followed, enclosing it within the protective shield. The scroll thrashed wildly, slamming against the shield as if trying to burst through.
Yi Xian heard a faint sound echo in the space. Then she saw Xie Ying walking toward her with a smile. Her heart sank. If this shield could only hold Xie Ying back for a few moments, that was terrifying.
So this was the power of a human-level Beast Tamer.
Xie Ying glanced over. “That technique is?”
Yi Xian laughed. “It was fate. Pure eye fate. Don’t be fooled by how grimy and ragged it looks. It’s like a hidden gem. Now that it has met me, it’s time for it to shine.”
Xie Ying’s expression twitched.
Yi Xian gently lifted the shield. “Stop struggling. If you are willing, I will let you out of this shield. What do you say?”
The scroll didn’t give in. It thudded and bumped for a long while. But with Yi Xian and Little Pony strengthening the barrier, it held firm without even a crack.
Just as Xie Ying was about to step forward, Yi Xian blocked her. “Senior Sister, thank you so much today. If you hadn’t brought me up here, I wouldn’t have found such a perfect technique. As for what you mentioned earlier, I will think about it carefully. Don’t forget to ask Peak Master Mingyi about taking in new disciples, alright?”
Xie Ying’s lips moved slightly before she managed a single word. “Alright.”
Then she left.
With the meddler gone, Yi Xian could finally breathe. The scroll inside the shield still thudded about, determined to break free.
She sat cross-legged, ready to engage in a toe-to-toe confrontation. She was not one to back down easily. This technique’s stubborn nature suited her perfectly. “Let’s see who lasts longer.”
She sat for an entire day.
Little Pony kept strengthening the shield while Yi Xian focused on cultivation and recovery. Occasionally, she glanced at the scroll. Its impact slowed, though it still occasionally slammed against the barrier.
She figured she would spend her final day here. Thinking this, she spoke to the scroll, “I have potential too. Think about it. Out of all these techniques, I chose you. That means we’re fated.”
Then she returned to cultivation.
The scroll, still thudding earlier, finally stilled. It floated silently within the barrier. Not until Yi Xian opened her eyes and released it did the struggle truly come to an end.
She gripped it firmly and wiped off the dust. Without warning, radiant light burst forth, and the scroll dissolved into a stream of brilliance, flooding into her consciousness.
Human-level technique. Radiant Blessing.
The words flashed past her eyes like a film reel. She could read each one, but when strung together, it felt overwhelming.
Yi Xian suspected she had picked something far beyond her level, which made it difficult to fully grasp for now.
Even so, acquiring a human-level technique thanks to Xie Ying’s intervention was something worth celebrating.
