The Strongest Beast-Tamer (Transmigration)(GL) - Chapter 7
According to the beastmen in the patrol team, the two Qianghuo Roots Yi Xian had planted outside her door had been “destroyed to erase the evidence.” Qin Rong did not know the potency of the poison, nor did she know how to formulate an antidote. The humans who had gotten sick from the fish were all on the brink of death, especially the newly pregnant woman, whose condition was deteriorating fast.
So everyone had gathered to force Yi Xian to hand over the antidote recipe.
Antidote recipe?
Yi Xian swept her gaze over the furious crowd of beastmen and humans. A cold laugh stirred in her heart. Such a clumsy attempt to frame her. Such a ridiculous excuse.
“Destroyed the evidence”?
“No way to make the antidote”?
Then what use was that human physician?
These people actually believed it. In the end, it all came down to the terrible things the original host had done. Her past had sunk too deep into everyone’s hearts. Not to mention the lack of human rights and social standing.
Qin Rong raised her voice.
“Yi Xian, hand over the antidote now. Maybe, for the sake of Lan needing you, everyone will spare your life.”
Yi Xian slanted a glance at Qin Rong on the opposite side.
“It wasn’t me.”
Her single sentence sparked another wave of uproar. If the patrol team hadn’t held them back, the humans would have rushed forward to beat her.
The patrol captain pulled Lan Tong aside. The two whispered to each other now and then. Then… Yi Xian was taken away by the beastmen of the patrol.
As they left, she deliberately glanced at Lan Tong. That woman’s lips were pressed into a tight line, her expression the same stiff face as always.
Yi Xian smacked her lips and thought, “At the critical moment, even this wild brute is useless. Looks like I’ll have to rely on myself.”
“Yi Xian, you’d better hand over the antidote soon. There is still room to turn things around.”
“It wasn’t me.”
“If the higher-ups hadn’t intervened, we’d already be punishing you severely.”
Still the same answer. Then the beastmen behind her shoved her hard into a dark little room. The thick scent of mold and decay overwhelmed her instantly, nearly making her gag. It took a while before her eyes adjusted to the dimness.
The space was large. It was clearly meant for detaining beastmen. As she stepped further in, she spotted a large dark shape curled near the back. Was it a person?
Yi Xian chose a spot near the door, where she could keep an eye on the adjacent cells. This had to be the most deserted holding cell she had ever seen. It was so quiet she could hear their faint breathing.
Once the patrol beastmen locked her in, they left without assigning guards. She could not tell whether they were overly confident or if the place simply held no important prisoners.
Yi Xian mentally retraced everything that had happened today and started to suspect that the original host’s death might not have been a coincidence. Perhaps there was more going on here than she knew.
After some thought, she pulled a slender tree branch from her sleeve. She stripped it into fine strands and used the narrow end to probe the lock. Holding her breath, she made several attempts. With a click, the lock came open.
“Even if you get through that door, you won’t make it out of Komo Forest alive.”
A rough, husky voice echoed through the dark room. Even though Yi Xian had been prepared, she still jumped in fright. She squinted into the dark, trying to make out the shape of the figure now struggling to sit up. In the dim light, she could only make out a vague silhouette. As the person straightened, the sharp sound of chains clinking against each other rang out.
So they were using wrist-thick chains. Clearly, this was a serious criminal.
Yi Xian made a rough judgment.
“You are… who?”
A raspy chuckle followed, cold and unsettling, as if the room had been pierced by a sudden gust of wind. After laughing for a while, the figure broke into a long, painful coughing fit. From the tone and weariness in her voice, the speaker sounded like someone clinging to the edge of life.
“Who I am doesn’t matter. What matters is that they put you in here at this exact time. Hahaha…”
What she said sent chills up Yi Xian’s spine. Her scalp tingled. She instinctively stepped back, preparing to leave. But the moment the figure lifted her head, an overwhelming suction force yanked Yi Xian forward.
Oh hell no!
Yi Xian desperately grabbed two iron bars. Her hair whipped about, and her feet lifted off the ground. Her body was pulled horizontally toward the other side.
It might have been her imagination, but the two bars she was holding onto seemed to be bending.
“Damn it! Cough! Hey! Someone cough!”
“Don’t bother yelling. No one can hear you. Girl, you’d better accept your fate.”
Fate, my foot!
Yi Xian wanted to curse but the moment she opened her mouth, the suction rushed straight into her throat, stealing all sound. She could only let out muffled groans. It was useless.
Click.
Her grip gave out. She looked down to see one of the iron bars had snapped in her hand. A second later, the other followed. Her entire body was pulled in, flipping backward as the door receded rapidly behind her.
This is like getting caught in a category seven typhoon! Yi Xian thought.
Her body was frozen. Then she saw two icy, bone-cold hands pawing all over her. Goosebumps erupted across her skin. Worst of all, those hands had the audacity to grope her chest.
What the hell?!
The woman had long, white hair, her face obscured, like that of some kind of vengeful ghost. She felt her way along Yi Xian’s body like a blind person exploring an object, moving from knuckles to joints, then pressing against her skull, checking her bones as though assessing something.
Yi Xian had heard people joking before that ancient cultivators chose disciples by reading bones, always seeking those with the most exceptional foundations. The stronger the roots, the greater the potential.
“Oh? You’ve already had a child? What a pity.”
“…”
“Mediocre foundation. Tsk.”
“…”
Yi Xian lay stiff as a board, being judged like merchandise. It felt like the woman might even start digging up her ancestors to check their roots. She figured once this crazy woman finished touching her, she would let her go.
After all, she was not dangerous.
“Wait! Something’s wrong.”
Yi Xian felt her chest being touched again. Damn it. She wanted to chop off the woman’s hand. The wound there, already sore, erupted with unbearable pain the moment some external force entered.
“So that’s what it is! Heaven has not forsaken me. Not forsaken me at all. Hahahaha!”
Yi Xian endured for a while but could not hold on. Her vision went black, and she lost consciousness.
Before she fainted, she could still hear the woman’s crazed laughter. It echoed through the room, making the walls tremble. Somewhere in the madness, she was cursing someone.
What name was she yelling?
She could not remember. Yi Xian’s mind quickly sank into darkness.
