The Temptation of Neighbors - Chapter 23
“Okay, you can’t be lazy, you can’t fall asleep. This IV is almost finished, call the nurse to change it.”
“Okay.”
“Let me talk to him and try to wake him up.”
“I know that. You’re even more nagging than my mom. Let’s go.”
“I’m really worried about you doing things…”
“Oh, stop nagging. Let’s go.”
Silence fell. This time I could hear their conversation clearly, but I couldn’t remember who they were.
“…Brother-in-law, this is Jiayi. Can you hear me? Life is so boring without you. How could someone as wonderful as you collapse like that? Please wake up soon. I miss you.”
Suddenly, a hand reached through my pants, grabbed my crotch, and stroked it.
“Why are you always so limp? Where’s all that spunk?… I really miss the days of being intimate with you, you know? I’ve never been this excited before. Please wake up soon. I want to keep doing that with you…”
She spoke, her hands busy, playing with it.
Slowly, my lower body began to respond, and soon, a stream of liquid began to flow out. This was bad. What little energy and spirit I had left had been emptied out by her. After the pleasure, my mind immediately relaxed. In a daze, I entered another world…
One world was blocked, and I woke from another.
I opened my eyes slightly, and everything before me was a milky white, like being immersed in milk, with only the milky outline visible. Gradually, the outline faded, and my vision became clear.
First, I saw the crystal-clear ceiling.
My first thought was that I was living in an illusion. I bit my lip. Oh my god, it hurt! This was definitely not an illusion, let alone a dream. I quickly turned my head to see several suspended beds in the vast room. They were more like unsupported jade slabs, without any quilt or sheets. Each bed held a person, and there were seven such beds, including mine.
Oh my god, wasn’t that Lian Zhengyu and Yi Li?
I twisted my neck and it creaked, so I immediately got up from the bed. I walked over and counted them. There were six of them in total: Lian Zhengyu, Yili, John, Kefu, Jordan, and Alvin. It
suddenly occurred to me, where was Long Yuhan? Where had he gone?
They were still fast asleep, so I woke them up one by one.
“I’m still alive!” Alvin exclaimed as he opened his eyes.
He was overjoyed, and so were the others.
“Master, we’re all still alive? What’s going on? They were clearly burned to death?” Kefu looked up and asked me.
“I don’t know what’s going on either,” I said.
“Where’s Long Yuhan?” Yili said, her eyes scanning the room, her expression becoming anxious and nervous.
“Where’s my cousin Long Yuhan?” she asked again, looking from one to the other, trying to get an answer from our faces or mouths.
We all looked at each other, and no one could answer her.
“No, I have to go find my cousin.”
Yili was about to get up and out of bed when a figure—no, a monster—came through the door. It had a large head, a thin waist
, and a round lower body. What the hell was this thing? It looked like an enlarged ant. It had a pair of antennae on its head, and its skin was brown. Its chest and waist were as thin as a dried-up bitter melon, but its lower body was incredibly large, like a giant pumpkin.
It was dressed in a pristine white bodysuit. Two slender legs sprouted from its waist, supporting it on the ground. The first leg seemed to have three joints. Even more astonishing was the fact that its upper body had four hands, the first also having three joints and two fingers.
Oh my god, a monster! We were all nervous. Yili jumped onto Lian Zhengyu’s bed and hugged him. We were all afraid this monster was going to harm us.
Although it was small, only about 1.5 meters, it looked terrifying, especially its head. It looked like an ant’s, with a chewing mouth like a bottle cork, and two bulging compound eyes like the eyes of a skinned cow.
The monster approached us and, between two fingers of one hand, pinched a small black object, about the size of a button
. Suddenly, a beam of light emanated from the “button,” forming a black screen about a meter in front of us. The monster’s tentacles moved, and words resembling crawling caterpillars appeared on the screen. It moved its tentacles again, and the worm-like words instantly translated into Chinese: “Don’t panic! I’m your doctor. I’ve come to see if your injuries have healed.”
Ah! This ant-like monster is our doctor. Can he treat patients? I wondered.
We all had questions: What kind of place is this? Why are we still alive? Where had Long Yuhan gone?
I calmed myself, craned my neck, and asked, “Excuse me, where are we now?”
The monster, of course, didn’t understand me, but my words were transmitted to the computer screen it had beamed over. Chinese was instantly translated into insectoid. The monster nodded, then moved its tentacles and beamed a voice message onto the screen, communicating with us: “You are now on an artificial planet at the center of the Milky Way, called ‘Planet Pami.'”
I’d only heard of artificial satellites, but never of artificial planets. This “Planet Pami” was an artificial planet, so were there intelligent aliens living on it?
Holy crap, were there really aliens in the universe?
My heart was racing. We’d really been saved from a disaster, had we encountered aliens?
I cleared my throat and said to the monster, “Did you save us?”
The translation was faster now, and just as I’d said something wrong, it answered my question on the screen: “Our space rescue team saved you.”
“Where’s my cousin, Long Yuhan?” Yi Li asked anxiously.
“He was seriously injured. He was burned to charcoal when he was taken to the hospital.”
Ellie’s eyes were red, and tears rolled down. Lian Zhengyu patted her shoulder and asked, “Can we save him?” “
No problem. The attending doctor is cloning his body right now,” the monster replied, sending a message through its tentacles.
“Is he dead?” John asked.
“Yes, but we’ve captured his spirit and saved a copy. Once his body is cloned, we’ll implant his spirit into his brain, and he’ll be able to live again,” the monster replied.
We were all stunned by this. We had never imagined their medical skills had reached such a level. It was truly amazing. The surprise on their faces was immediately evident.
“What’s that ‘button’ on your hand?” I asked again.
“It’s our computer. It uses beams of light to create a screen, and text is input by voice,” it replied calmly.
“Can I access the internet?” Jordan asked, sitting on the bed.
“Of course. We’re using the ‘Pammy Wireless Network’ that covers the entire galaxy…”
