The Top Omega Girlfriend of a Useless Alpha - Chapter 40
“I’m not feeling well,” Song Feiyu said truthfully, her lips pressed into a thin line.
She glanced at Gu Yi’s smudged lipstick and shifted slightly to create some space.
“You need to touch up your makeup,” she added. “It wouldn’t do for others to see you like this.”
“Whose fault is that?” Gu Yi shot her a look before turning and heading to the restroom to fix her makeup.
Song Feiyu waited by the restroom door, her thoughts swirling as she suppressed the turmoil within.
I can’t involve Gu Yi in this, she thought. This has nothing to do with her. It’s just the Second Prince’s lust for beauty.
Halfway through this thought, Song Feiyu tugged at her hair in frustration. But aren’t I just as guilty of coveting beauty?
The jasmine scent was like a fatal poison. Once tainted by it, it was nearly impossible to shake off its intoxicating effects.
When Gu Yi emerged, her makeup was flawlessly restored, her radiance renewed.
Song Feiyu extended her arm, inviting Gu Yi to take it, and the two women returned to the ballroom.
The ball was now in full swing. Orchestras played elegant melodies—centuries-old tunes that remained timelessly popular.
Song Feiyu, being of minor noble lineage, knew how to dance. She placed her palm on Gu Yi’s waist and led her to the center of the dance floor.
As the melodious music filled the hall, Song Feiyu gazed down into Gu Yi’s eyes.
So deep, so beautiful.
Those eyes held no one but herself.
Right, she thought, I don’t know what I’m worrying about. The person I care about is right here beside me.
It’s ridiculous to dwell on the Second Prince’s unrequited feelings.
After several dances, Gu Yi’s forehead glistened with sweat. These dances were quite strenuous, each piece of music lasting a long time.
Song Feiyu took out her handkerchief and gently wiped Gu Yi’s brow. Gu Yi looked up at Song Feiyu, noticing not a single bead of sweat on her face. She couldn’t help but wonder.
“You’re not sweating?”
Song Feiyu shook her head.
“This level of exercise is nothing. I don’t sweat from this.”
Gu Yi suddenly grew curious and leaned closer.
“Then when do you sweat?”
She suddenly recalled those past nights when Song Feiyu had only sweated once or twice, as if she had discovered a new continent.
Song Feiyu, clearly not thinking deeply about the question, blinked and answered earnestly, “During training.”
“Even someone who doesn’t sweat easily would sweat after exercising for hours,” she added.
Gu Yi nodded. “Then we’ll try it next time.”
She spoke close to Song Feiyu’s ear. At first, Song Feiyu didn’t understand, but she glanced at Gu Yi with wide eyes and said with concern, “Your body isn’t ready for such intense training yet. You need to recover from your injuries first…”
Halfway through her sentence, she realized her mistake and trailed off.
“You mean…”
Seeing Song Feiyu’s face flush crimson, Gu Yi nodded with satisfaction. “Took you long enough to figure it out.”
She playfully tapped Song Feiyu’s chin, like a victor. “Don’t worry, I can handle it. I just wonder if Captain Song will be able to keep up. Don’t start complaining about sore joints later.”
Po Ye did indeed attend her younger brother’s ball. After all, her father, the king, was observing her closely, and even if she loathed it, she had to at least put on a show of compliance.
Gu Xueze accompanied her.
Though she danced with a random Omega companion, her eyes remained fixed on Po Ye the entire time.
Po Ye didn’t enter the dance floor. Due to her unique physiology, she maintained a distance from most Omegas and Alphas.
The royal guards around her were primarily Betas.
Po Ye’s aloofness toward Omegas once fueled rumors that she favored Alphas, but since she never associated with any Alphas either, the gossip eventually died down.
After chatting briefly with a few elder statesmen, Po Ye left the ballroom. Her guards moved to follow, but she waved them away, dismissing them all.
Not a single one remained.
Gu Xueze had been secretly observing Po Ye’s every move. When she saw Po Ye dismiss all her guards, her heart leaped into her throat.
“Excuse me, I must step away for a moment,” Gu Xueze said with an apologetic smile to the Omega she had been dancing with before hurrying off.
“Miss Gu…”
The Omega tried to stop her, but Gu Xueze was already gone.
Gu Xueze practically chased after Po Ye, who moved with such speed that her figure vanished into the vast palace in an instant.
Losing sight of her, Gu Xueze was momentarily disoriented, unsure where to begin her search.
But after years of service within the palace, she possessed a certain degree of experience. Taking a deep breath, her Alpha’s keen sense of smell immediately detected the faint, sweet scent of wine lingering in the air.
As a member of the Imperial Family, Your Highness’s pheromones were so potent that even pheromone patches couldn’t fully mask them.
Gu Xueze followed the scent trail, grateful that she was Your Highness’s bedmate.
Without that intimate familiarity, she might never have been able to distinguish this faint wine-like aroma. But after countless nights spent together, the scent had become deeply ingrained in her very being.
How could she ever forget it?
She quickly caught up to Po Ye, but instead of rushing forward, Gu Xueze stood by a stone pillar.
She overheard Your Highness discussing something with another person.
“Song Yin has nothing. What good is her intelligence?”
“You need to focus on Gu Yi.”
Gu Xueze cautiously peeked around the pillar and recognized the speaker as a close aide to the Second Prince.
The revelation stunned her.
The man in black lowered his head and whispered something, causing Po Ye to frown deeply.
“Forced marking…”
Po Ye lowered her head in thought. This method was too despicable; she couldn’t accept it.
“If you’re going to kill someone, do it swiftly and decisively. This roundabout, humiliating method is utterly shameless.”
“Your Highness, if we don’t act this way, the Gu Family might truly ally with the Second Prince, which would be detrimental to us,” an elderly voice advised Po Ye.
“Gu Xuanyu has always been Your Majesty’s close advisor. But now that His Majesty’s health is failing, Gu Xuanyu can avoid making a choice, but his most beloved daughter will be forced to…”
Po Ye, reminded of the stakes, hardened her resolve.
“Find someone to do it.”
“As you command.”
The man bowed and withdrew. Seeing Po Ye approach the pillar where she was hiding, Gu Xueze panicked and tried to slip away.
“Don’t bother hiding. I know you’re there,” Po Ye said, her voice cutting through the pretense without mercy.
“Your Highness…” Gu Xueze peeked out, a hint of embarrassment on her face.
“You’re not angry about what I’m doing to your sister?” Po Ye asked, her gaze fixed on Gu Xueze.
She knew Gu Xueze had overheard their entire conversation, but she felt no anger.
“No,” Gu Xueze shook her head. “She’s not as important to me as you are.”
These words instantly lifted Po Ye’s spirits. They were far more effective than a hundred flattering remarks from her courtiers.
She slowly approached Gu Xueze, her slender fingers pinching the other woman’s chin and forcing her to look up.
Her tone carried a deeper meaning.
“I can guess what your father is thinking. He doesn’t want to give the Gu Family to you.”
“But don’t worry, Xueze. With me by your side, what’s rightfully yours will definitely be yours.”
“No one can take it away.”
