The True Record of a Flirty Omega's Failed Balancing Act - Chapter 13
Chapter 13
â—ŽI don’t want to eat this right nowâ—Ž
One layer of red, one layer of white, one layer of blue.
The sunset once again settled over the city of Nancheng.
Ning Chanyue sat cross-legged on the sofa, unmoving. Occasionally, she glanced at the sunset outside the window, and occasionally, she looked at the front door, as if waiting for someone to return.
“Knock, knock, knock.”
It wasn’t until the rhythmic knocking on the door sounded that Ning Chanyue bounced off the sofa and went to the door.
When she opened the door, she saw the Xu Guiyi she had been thinking about.
Xu Guiyi also looked at her.
But probably because of the not-so-pleasant phone call last night, the two of them were now in a silent stalemate, their eyes locked.
After a few seconds, Ning Chanyue stepped aside. She opened her mouth and tried to say, “Are you still going to the hospital tonight?”
“Yes, I am. I left in a hurry last night. I’ll go back to the hospital after I get my sister’s toiletries and a change of clothes.”
After saying that, Xu Guiyi walked past her and stepped into the room. Her sleeve barely grazed Ning Chanyue’s chest, which was rising and falling with her breath. She turned and hung the two bags of congee she was carrying on the rack by the door for the time being.
Ning Chanyue’s fingers unconsciously rubbed the corner of her shirt. Her gaze followed Xu Guiyi’s back and then fell to the floor, which was a little dark under the twilight.
She understood what Xu Guiyi meant. It meant that even though Xu Guiyi had made a concession yesterday and agreed to let her stay at her place for the time being, Xu Guiyi probably wouldn’t be able to stay with her most of the time during her heat.
It’s okay, it’s okay.
Ning Chanyue took a deep breath. After all, her sister was Guiyi’s only bl00d relative and should be more important than her.
So she forced a smile and asked Xu Guiyi, who was walking into the bedroom, “How is your sister’s condition now? Did the doctor say when she’ll be discharged?”
Perhaps because of the wall separating them, Xu Guiyi’s voice was a little muffled. As she searched for clothes in the closet, she said, “My sister’s condition is more stable today. The doctor said that if there are no unexpected issues, she should be discharged around the fifteenth.”
The fifteenth…
Ning Chanyue blinked, as if she had thought of something. She took a few steps to the bedroom door, but just as she was about to speak, Xu Guiyi suddenly opened the bedroom door.
“What’s wrong?”
Seeing Ning Chanyue, Xu Guiyi withdrew the leg she was about to step outside with. Her tone was the same as before, not particularly close but not distant either.
Ning Chanyue tentatively said, “April fifteenth is your birthday. If you’re celebrating, can I celebrate with you?”
“Birthday?” Xu Guiyi’s eyes raised at her words, as if she was reminiscing. She paused and then added, “I haven’t celebrated my birthday in a long time.”
Is that so… But Ning Chanyue clearly remembered that when she and Xu Guiyi were still together, Xu Guiyi had told her that although she didn’t like lively occasions like birthdays, she always felt fulfilled whenever she saw her family gathered together and happy because of her.
That’s right. Back then, every time her birthday came around, no matter how busy Xu Guiyi was, she would make time to have a small get-together with her family, even for the birthday before her college entrance exam.
So now… did she not like celebrating her birthday anymore? Or was it because, as time had changed, there was no one left to celebrate her birthday with?
She didn’t ask. But Xu Guiyi’s tired eyes seemed to have given her the answer.
So Ning Chanyue took half a step forward, getting a little closer to Xu Guiyi. Her skirt hem swept against her ankle from time to time.
Then, she said, “Then I’ll celebrate your birthday this year, okay?”
As if she hadn’t expected Ning Chanyue to say that, Xu Guiyi frowned. After a while, she asked, “Your heat should be over by the fifteenth, right? Aren’t you going back?”
Of course, she didn’t want to go back.
But Ning Chanyue didn’t say it directly. She just tilted her head and asked back in a serious tone, “Do you want me to go back?”
Ning Chanyue’s words fell.
One second, two seconds. The hands on the clock outside ticked.
Xu Guiyi didn’t say anything.
Ning Chanyue took it as a default.
So she boldly ran her fingertips across the back of Xu Guiyi’s hand and her wrist, leaving a string of warmth on her skin. Then, she pulled up Xu Guiyi’s sleeve.
She said, “I thought you would mind and kick me out after seeing that photo. I didn’t sleep well all of yesterday.”
This was clearly a complaint, but a smile was beginning to form in Ning Chanyue’s eyes.
Xu Guiyi shook her head, as if to say “she doesn’t mind,” but before Ning Chanyue could be happy, she nodded again.
Xu Guiyi said, “At first, I did mind, but then I thought about it. It was probably just an alpha’s temporary possessiveness. After all, she’s your wife. She has the right to see you in private and to take you away. After I figured that out, I didn’t mind anymore.”
In other words, she had the right to do anything to her, and she had no right to mind.
But she should have.
Ning Chanyue’s heart felt as if it had been grabbed. She bit her lip, looking down at the wrinkles on Xu Guiyi’s sleeve, which she was holding.
After a while, Ning Chanyue spoke, her voice a little muffled. “She’s not my wife.”
Xu Guiyi raised an eyebrow. “If she’s not, then who is?”
After hearing that, Ning Chanyue didn’t say anything but suddenly pulled her hand away from Xu Guiyi’s sleeve.
But that hand didn’t obediently fall back to Ning Chanyue’s side. Instead, it took a turn and climbed onto Xu Guiyi’s shirt. Her fingers went up little by little, then stopped at the button on the white shirt that was in the middle and slightly above. She gently buttoned the button that had come undone at some point.
But after she finished, Ning Chanyue’s fingers didn’t leave. Her fingertips moved down slightly, gently tapping the space between Xu Guiyi’s buttons.
That was also where Xu Guiyi’s heart was.
Ning Chanyue’s fingertips touched Xu Guiyi’s skin through the gap between the fabrics. Then, she looked up and smiled at Xu Guiyi, “You guess.”
Ning Chanyue’s fingers were tapping Xu Guiyi’s skin at a steady pace, one after another. But for some reason, she felt that the heart under that skin seemed to be slowly starting to beat faster.
Ning Chanyue suddenly thought, people can lie, but a heartbeat can’t, can it?
Her eyelashes fluttered, and then her fingertips stuck firmly to that part of Xu Guiyi’s skin.
She felt the rising and falling of Xu Guiyi’s chest, the warmth of her skin, and her jumping heartbeat under her fingers.
After a long time, Xu Guiyi finally wrapped her palm with calluses around Ning Chanyue’s fingers, which were against her chest, and slowly put it down.
Xu Guiyi sighed but didn’t directly answer Ning Chanyue’s question. She just said, “If you want to celebrate your birthday with me, then come.”
It seemed that she was attached to the warmth of the moment, and it also seemed that she had given in to Ning Chanyue’s persistence.
But it was like that. Xu Guiyi had tacitly allowed her to intrude and cross the line again and again.
“Really?” Not expecting Xu Guiyi to agree, Ning Chanyue’s voice rose at the end.
Xu Guiyi nodded. Ning Chanyue’s eyes were bright. Not only was her voice rising, but the corners of her mouth were also raised. She also held Xu Guiyi’s hand, which was holding her fingers.
Xu Guiyi was also affected by Ning Chanyue’s mood. Her eyes were much softer than before, and she let Ning Chanyue start shaking her hand.
Seeing this, Ning Chanyue stood on her tiptoes and took the opportunity to whisper in Xu Guiyi’s ear, “Then… can I be a little more forward? I want another kiss. I haven’t seen you all day. And there were a lot of alphas at the promotion this morning. I don’t know whose pheromones were leaking, but I almost couldn’t hold on.”
This posture was intimate and affectionate. Every word Ning Chanyue said, she breathed into Xu Guiyi’s ear, making Xu Guiyi feel a little ticklish.
Xu Guiyi looked at Ning Chanyue in front of her with the help of the hazy moonlight.
The bright moonlight was shattered by the carvings on the window, falling crookedly in the dim room and on Ning Chanyue’s face.
As if feeling Xu Guiyi’s gaze, Ning Chanyue raised the corners of her mouth, and the soft moonlight also shifted, as if it was smiling with her.
“So, are you going to kiss me now?”
Xu Guiyi looked and looked, then lowered her head and moved closer to Ning Chanyue’s lips.
But the bad thing was that the moment their lips touched, Ning Chanyue’s stomach rumbled twice.
“Hmm?” Hearing the sound, Xu Guiyi pulled away from Ning Chanyue. She put her hand on Ning Chanyue’s abdomen, a half-smile on her face. “Are you hungry?”
Ning Chanyue gave her abdomen a look of disgust. She pouted and said, “I only had breakfast today. My manager said I’ve gained a little weight and told me to control it.”
Xu Guiyi touched Ning Chanyue’s cheeks, which were so thin they were almost sunken in. She said, “You should still have some congee. I just bought some. I was going to take it to the hospital, but it should be warm now. Why don’t you have a bowl? I can just buy more downstairs later.”
Xu Guiyi said it sincerely, but Ning Chanyue shook her head and said, “I don’t want to eat this right now.”
“Then what do you want to eat?”
Ning Chanyue blinked, and with a mysterious tone, she said, “Close your eyes first.”
It was completely dark.
Then, Xu Guiyi felt a softness fall on her lips.
When she opened her eyes again, Ning Chanyue was on her tiptoes, her hand still on Xu Guiyi’s shoulder. She smiled and said, “I want to eat this.”
Xu Guiyi pursed her lips. The lingering warmth of the kiss still remained on her lips. At that moment, Xu Guiyi seemed to understand why people loved the moon that was within reach. It was so pure, yet so alluring.
Yes, what a beautiful moonlight, what a beautiful girl.
So she leaned down…
