The True Record of a Flirty Omega's Failed Balancing Act - Chapter 18
Chapter 18
â—ŽLet me sleep with you.â—Ž
After going upstairs, Xu Guiyi went back to her bedroom. Ning Chanyue didn’t bother Xu Guiyi too much. Instead, she leaned on the sofa and idly scrolled through her phone.
But perhaps she was bored. After a while, Ning Chanyue walked to the window and looked at the scenery outside. But to say she was looking out was an overstatement. In such a stormy weather, the mountain surrounding Nancheng in the distance had already been covered by clouds and mist, and she couldn’t see it clearly. But because of this, the green mountain seemed to have a bit more of a hazy beauty, adding a different kind of charm.
Mountain.
She didn’t know if she was attracted by the beautiful mountain scenery or if she was reminiscing about the past, but Ning Chanyue’s eyes moved.
“I’m not going to the hospital tonight.”
Ning Chanyue hadn’t been standing by the window for long when Xu Guiyi pushed open her bedroom door. She walked a few steps forward and said this to Ning Chanyue.
“Not going?” Ning Chanyue turned around, her voice rising at the end. But just as she was about to lift the corners of her lips, she seemed to have thought of something, and her tone became flat again. “What about your sister?”
“Grandma Zhou said her son-in-law insisted on coming to her house tonight, so she’s avoiding him and staying at the hospital for the night,” Xu Guiyi added, afraid that Ning Chanyue would be confused. “Her relationship with her family has never been very good.”
Ning Chanyue nodded, and her eyes gradually lit up. Does this mean that she and Xu Guiyi will have a whole night to themselves?
They could watch a movie or play games… It was a shame the weather wasn’t good, otherwise, she could have gone downstairs and walked around with Xu Guiyi.
The more Ning Chanyue thought about it, the more her eyebrows and eyes curved. By the time she walked in front of Xu Guiyi, the smile in her pupils seemed to be about to spill out of her eyes.
But Xu Guiyi spoke at this moment: “I’m leaving soon. I have a tutoring session at 7:30, and I’ll probably be back around 10 p.m.”
Oh… That means that when Xu Guiyi comes back, she’ll probably just wash up and go to sleep.
Ning Chanyue bit her lip and didn’t say anything for a while.
“Alright,” Xu Guiyi touched Ning Chanyue’s head and said softly, “I’ll buy you something to eat when I come back, okay?”
Although Ning Chanyue’s eyebrows were still furrowed, after hearing Xu Guiyi’s words, she still nodded. “Okay. Then you have to eat with me.”
This way, they would have a small world for just the two of them.
Ning Chanyue held Xu Guiyi’s wrist. Her eyes were fixed on Xu Guiyi. Xu Guiyi couldn’t help but flick her nose and said with a smile, “Okay.”
After that, Xu Guiyi changed her shoes and left. Ning Chanyue sat back down on the sofa. She didn’t pick up her phone for a while. Instead, she rested her chin on her hand and stared blankly at the wall, occasionally letting out a laugh. But after a while, perhaps she noticed the unremovable yellow stains on the wall. She moved her gaze to the floor as if she didn’t want to look at them. But just as she looked at the floor, she frowned again.
Didn’t she just sweep the floor today? Why were there so many hairs on the floor again?
So Ning Chanyue stood up, preparing to get the broom to sweep the area. Before she even reached the bathroom where the broom was kept, Ning Chanyue smelled the odor coming from the bathroom. She immediately took out a mask and put it on her face.
For some reason, this bathroom always had a strong odor. Ning Chanyue remembered the first time she went to this bathroom. Because she had no experience, she walked in casually, but in a few seconds, she couldn’t help but run out, gagging as she covered her throat.
She wondered how Xu Guiyi got used to it.
If only she could get Xu Guiyi to move into her house with her sister.
Ning Chanyue suddenly thought of this when she picked up the broom.
But even after sweeping the floor, it was only just past eight o’clock. Ning Chanyue leaned on the sofa, but perhaps she was thinking about how to convince Xu Guiyi to live with her, or perhaps she was just tired after a long day and finally had some free time. As she sat there, her eyelids became heavier and heavier, and her thoughts gradually drifted away from her consciousness.
…
“Wake up.”
When she opened her eyes again, Ning Chanyue saw Xu Guiyi bending over, patting her shoulder.
“Hmm?” Her voice was groggy.
Ning Chanyue stretched lazily. She didn’t know if she was awake or not. As she lowered her arms, she wrapped them around Xu Guiyi’s neck, making Xu Guiyi get a little closer to her. Feeling Xu Guiyi’s warm breath on her cheek, Ning Chanyue curled her lips and mumbled, “What’s wrong?”
Xu Guiyi gently patted Ning Chanyue’s cheek twice and said, “Go to bed. The temperature has dropped tonight. You’ll be cold if you sleep on the sofa without a blanket.”
Ning Chanyue tilted her head, pretending to be dumb. She asked, “Which bed?”
Xu Guiyi naturally looked at the folding bed not far from the sofa.
But Ning Chanyue shook her head. “That bed is too hard. It’s been hurting my back these past few days. My back still hurts.”
“Then there’s no other bed for you to sleep in.”
Ning Chanyue didn’t say anything. Her eyes just drifted towards Xu Guiyi’s bedroom. Then she looked back at Xu Guiyi, raised her eyebrows, and asked with a smile, “Is it okay?”
Xu Guiyi sighed. “No. If you don’t want to sleep, then eat first.”
Ning Chanyue pouted, but she lowered her eyes and was silent for a while. She didn’t push it too much. She smiled cunningly and followed Xu Guiyi’s words. “Okay. Where’s the food?”
“On the dining table.”
Ning Chanyue got up and walked to the dining table. But after only a few steps, as soon as she saw what was on the table, she suddenly turned back and looked at Xu Guiyi, who was slowly walking over.
“You still remember I like to eat from this restaurant?”
On the table were two large bowls of udon noodles. Ning Chanyue had loved noodles since before college, but ever since she went to this restaurant across from the Academy of Art during her first year of college, she felt that all other noodles in the world paled in comparison to theirs. During college, she would drag Xu Guiyi to this noodle shop every now and then, but in a blink of an eye, she had been away from the Academy of Art for several years, and it had been even longer since she had been to that restaurant.
Xu Guiyi walked to the dining table, pulled out a chair for Ning Chanyue, and said, “My tutoring student lives near the Academy of Art. I happened to see this restaurant and bought some on the way.”
Happened.
Ning Chanyue’s eyes rolled. She vaguely remembered that in the afternoon, when Xu Guiyi came to pick her up with an umbrella, she also said “happened.”
But how could there be so many coincidences in the world?
So the corners of Ning Chanyue’s lips lifted into a smile. She looked at Xu Guiyi for a while, but Xu Guiyi didn’t say anything, so she didn’t say anything either. Instead, she moved closer to the dining table, and pulled the bowl and chair a little closer to Xu Guiyi’s position. Then she asked, “Guiyi, you still remember what I like to eat. Then what do you like to eat?”
She still remembered the first day she arrived, she happily made a table full of food, but Xu Guiyi just said to her—she didn’t like to eat any of it anymore.
And then she said those cold words.
Now that Xu Guiyi was being nice to her, it should be fine to directly ask her about her preferences, right? She could make something she liked next time.
But Xu Guiyi put down her chopsticks and said to her, “I’ve been eating whatever is easy to make or cheap these past few years. There’s nothing I particularly like to eat anymore.”
“Okay.” Ning Chanyue lowered her eyes, not getting the answer she wanted.
But after a few seconds, Ning Chanyue felt that Xu Guiyi was still staring at her. She looked up again, and as soon as their eyes met, she heard her ask, “Have you been remembering what I said to you that night? I’m sorry… my words were a little aggressive that day.”
Ning Chanyue stared at Xu Guiyi blankly for a while. Then, she pursed her lips and didn’t say anything.
So she knew.
She actually apologized to her.
Then why did she say those things to her in the first place?
As if she was confused, Ning Chanyue’s eyebrows furrowed. Just as Xu Guiyi thought she was going to be angry, she suddenly relaxed her eyebrows and smiled at Xu Guiyi. “It’s okay. I did mind it a little at the time, but then I saw how well you treated me, so I didn’t care as much.”
After all, she should be content to be back by Xu Guiyi’s side.
Contentment is happiness, and Xu Guiyi also knew about her own problems.
Ning Chanyue said this to herself.
Then, Ning Chanyue lowered her head and continued to eat her noodles. She seemed to be in a good mood, humming a song in between bites.
When she finished the bowl of noodles, Ning Chanyue picked up the bowl and buried her head in it, drinking the soup, one sip at a time.
“There’s a spoon. I’ll get it for you. Don’t drink it like that.” Xu Guiyi patted Ning Chanyue’s shoulder.
When she heard Xu Guiyi’s words, Ning Chanyue put down the bowl. But when she looked up again, she found that Xu Guiyi was still staring at her. Ning Chanyue blinked at her. Before she could say anything, she heard Xu Guiyi cover her mouth and let out a giggle.
“What’s so funny?” Realizing that Xu Guiyi was laughing at her, Ning Chanyue pouted.
Xu Guiyi tried to turn her head and handed her phone to Ning Chanyue, letting her use the screen to see what she looked like.
She saw that most of her chin and the corners of her lips were covered in soup, like she had a red beard.
“Hmph.”
They say that the one who’s right doesn’t need to speak loudly, but since Ning Chanyue wasn’t right, she had to speak even louder. She took the tissue Xu Guiyi gave her and, as if she was embarrassed, quickly wiped her lips and chin. But as soon as she threw down the tissue, she quickly pouted again, tilted her head back, and said affectedly, “You’re not allowed to laugh at me.”
Ning Chanyue’s antics immediately livened up the previously silent atmosphere. Xu Guiyi’s eyes were full of smiles as she looked at Ning Chanyue. She used her finger to wipe off the last bit of soup on Ning Chanyue’s lips and said, “Okay, okay. I won’t laugh at you, Ningning.”
The moment Xu Guiyi’s words fell, Ning Chanyue’s eyes narrowed, as if she was afraid she had misheard. She leaned closer to Xu Guiyi and asked with some uncertainty, “What did you just call me?”
That was the nickname Xu Guiyi would only call her when they were in love before.
But Xu Guiyi lowered the corners of her lips. She got up, threw the tissue into the trash can not far away, and walked into the kitchen to get a spoon for Ning Chanyue, avoiding Ning Chanyue’s gaze.
When she sat back down at the table, Xu Guiyi found that Ning Chanyue was still looking at her. But she just handed the spoon to Ning Chanyue and said, “Eat.”
Ning Chanyue opened her mouth but wisely didn’t press the issue, and Xu Guiyi didn’t say anything else.
The whole meal was finished like this. After Xu Guiyi washed the dishes, she told Ning Chanyue that she was going to take a shower and told her to go to sleep on the bed in her living room if she was tired.
But how could Ning Chanyue obediently listen?
When Xu Guiyi finished her shower, she saw that Ning Chanyue was nowhere to be found in the living room. She tried calling out Ning Chanyue’s name twice, but only heard a response from inside her closed bedroom door.
Xu Guiyi pushed the door open and saw Ning Chanyue with her innocent and watery eyes, blinking at Xu Guiyi.
“Let me sleep with you.”
Ning Chanyue said this to Xu Guiyi, sitting on her bed with a blanket in her arms.
