The True Record of a Flirty Omega's Failed Balancing Act - Chapter 20
Chapter 20
â—Ž”Why didn’t you satisfy her?”â—Ž
The rain was about to stop.
Sparse raindrops fell on the windowsill one by one.
Perhaps it was her body clock, or perhaps it was a series of raindrops suddenly sliding down from the roof and hitting the windowsill, but Xu Guiyi opened her eyes.
Before they were fully open, a ray of early morning sunlight that shone through a gap in the curtains hit her eyelids brightly. Xu Guiyi squinted her eyes, but at the same time, she also became a little more awake.
But immediately after, before she was fully awake, she felt a tingling sensation like an electric shock on her arm.
To say it was a tingle might not be entirely accurate. It was more like her arm had lost all sensation, like a prosthetic limb. She tried to move her fingers but found she couldn’t use any strength.
So she looked in the direction of her arm.
She saw Ning Chanyue sleeping on her arm, her posture exactly the same as when she went to bed last night. One hand was tightly wrapped around her. As if she felt Xu Guiyi’s gaze, Ning Chanyue snuggled closer to her, and her chin rested on her shoulder.
And this angle also allowed Xu Guiyi to see her better. Her lips were slightly parted, and her eyelashes were trembling slightly. After all, she had a natural star quality. No matter what her posture was, she was undoubtedly beautiful. But her complexion was always so pale, and her gaunt cheekbones were slightly sunken in her cheeks. Looking at her like this, she seemed to have a hint of sickliness, like a butterfly swaying in the strong wind.
She was probably almost half as thin as when she saw her a few years ago.
Xu Guiyi placed her palm on Ning Chanyue’s cheek with a little pity.
“Hmm?”
Feeling Xu Guiyi’s touch, Ning Chanyue hummed muzzily, but she didn’t turn over or shake off Xu Guiyi’s hand. Instead, she stretched her other hand out from under the blanket and tightly pressed it against Xu Guiyi’s hand that was on her face.
After that, Ning Chanyue curled her lips, as if she was extremely satisfied with such a simple touch.
Xu Guiyi’s gaze was stuck on Ning Chanyue’s face for a long time. Her fingertips brushed Ning Chanyue’s lips over and over again.
But the next second, Ning Chanyue’s soft tongue suddenly wrapped around her thumb, wrapping it into her warm and comfortable mouth, sucking on it unconsciously like a child sucking on a pacifier.
Ning Chanyue licked it on and off. Xu Guiyi’s eyes darkened. She couldn’t help but probe her finger in a little further, but just as the first knuckle was about to be completely submerged in Ning Chanyue’s mouth, she finally sighed, closed her eyes, pulled out her already wet finger, and then patted Ning Chanyue’s cheek.
“Wake up,” Xu Guiyi said.
Ning Chanyue woke up quickly. After seeing Xu Guiyi, she said softly with her still-hoarse morning voice, “Good morning, Guiyi.”
“Good morning,” Xu Guiyi replied as well.
Perhaps she wasn’t fully awake yet. Ning Chanyue moved twice and buried her head deep in Xu Guiyi’s neck. But in just a moment, she looked up again with her eyes slightly open and asked, “Why are your pheromones so strong?”
The instigator asked so innocently. The corner of Xu Guiyi’s mouth twitched, but she didn’t say anything.
After saying that, Ning Chanyue buried her head again. Her voice was a little muffled. After taking a deep breath, she said, “It smells good, I like it.”
After saying that, Ning Chanyue wrapped her arm around Xu Guiyi even more tightly. Immediately after, Xu Guiyi felt a wet sensation on her neck.
Obviously, Ning Chanyue was kissing her.
Xu Guiyi’s body stiffened. She gave Ning Chanyue’s forehead a helpless kiss. Feeling the special touch, Ning Chanyue finally looked up again.
Xu Guiyi caressed Ning Chanyue’s hair over and over again. Although she had woken up earlier than Ning Chanyue, her voice was inexplicably a few shades hoarser than hers. She only heard Xu Guiyi say with her eyes lowered, “I have something to do this morning, so I need to get ready.”
Ning Chanyue pouted and reluctantly let go of Xu Guiyi’s arm.
So Xu Guiyi pulled her arm that was being pressed down by Ning Chanyue out. She rubbed her numb arm, but just as she was about to get out of bed, she seemed to have thought of something. She turned around and said to Ning Chanyue, “Let me see how the bump on the back of your head is doing.”
Ning Chanyue obediently got up and turned her back to Xu Guiyi.
After a few seconds, Xu Guiyi’s voice came from behind her. She said, “It’s much better. Do you want me to help you tear off the cooling patch?”
Ning Chanyue naturally nodded immediately, wanting to stay with Xu Guiyi a little longer. “Tear it off. I can just wear a hat to cover it up when I go out.”
Although the cooling patch was stuck to her hair and was close to the faint pain on her scalp, Xu Guiyi was probably used to taking care of people. Her technique was gentle and meticulous. She would tear off an inch and then stop to check Ning Chanyue’s reaction. Before Ning Chanyue even realized that the cooling patch had been completely torn off, Xu Guiyi patted her shoulder and said, “It’s done.”
Ning Chanyue turned around and saw that Xu Guiyi had already thrown the crumpled cooling patch into the trash can under the bed. Xu Guiyi put on her shoes and got out of bed. She picked up the clothes draped over the back of the chair and, with her back to Ning Chanyue, put on her shirt and said, “I probably won’t be back for lunch. Make whatever you want to eat.”
Ning Chanyue, however, lay back down on the bed. She hummed and said, “I’m going out for lunch. Did you forget?”
“Oh, right,” As Xu Guiyi buttoned the last button, she turned around, leaned down, and touched Ning Chanyue’s slightly messy hair. She said, “See you tonight.”
Ning Chanyue, however, curled the corners of her lips, held Xu Guiyi’s wrist that was still on her hair, and kissed her palm before letting go of Xu Guiyi’s hand. She replied, “See you tonight.”
Xu Guiyi nodded and left the bedroom. Ning Chanyue lay diagonally on the bed with her limbs spread out. Her eyes were blank, and her gaze randomly landed on the spiderweb in the corner of the room. She listened to the sounds of footsteps, washing up, and changing shoes outside the door.
Finally, with a crisp sound of the door closing, the room returned to silence.
And she was left alone.
But even though the person she liked had left her, the sound of the door closing was like some kind of pardon for Ning Chanyue. After hearing the sound, Ning Chanyue slowly sat up, but she didn’t get out of bed. Instead, she moved forward two steps.
Then, she burrowed into Xu Guiyi’s blanket.
Not just her body, but her head as well, were hidden in the blanket. The scent of sandalwood in the blanket instantly enveloped her whole body.
Ning Chanyue closed her eyes tightly, her lips slightly parted. She took one deep breath after another. When she opened her eyes again, the corners of her eyes were a little red for some unknown reason.
Why didn’t she satisfy her?
How annoying.
The air in the blanket was a little stuffy, just like Ning Chanyue’s heart at this moment.
She clenched her legs, feeling the strong pheromones surging within the blanket.
Of course, it might not just be the surging of pheromones.
Without Xu Guiyi’s restraint, she was recklessly taking the pheromones from the blanket, like a person who had drowned and was desperately taking in the oxygen she needed to survive.
Outside the window, there were a series of crisp bird chirps. Inside the window, there were a series of heavy breaths.
And then, and then…
She didn’t know how much time had passed, but Ning Chanyue finally sat up, with a thin layer of suspicious sweat on her forehead.
She leaned down and took her clothes out of the blanket. She put on the clothes she had taken off earlier. Perhaps because she had plenty of time, Ning Chanyue didn’t rush to get ready. Instead, she looked at Xu Guiyi’s bedroom, which she had never set foot in before, with a sense of novelty and nostalgia.
The style of the entire bedroom was just like Xu Guiyi herself, not at all flashy. The walls were a little chipped white. There were no posters or paintings, not even an extra color. On the desk, there were only two stacks of books, but none of them were popular novels that Ning Chanyue had heard of or read. They were almost all professional works. The edges of the book pages were a little yellow, which meant Xu Guiyi had probably read through them carefully.
Finally, Ning Chanyue’s gaze moved down and landed on the rocking cradle next to the bed.
This rocking cradle was obviously a little out of place with the academic style of the bedroom, which made Ning Chanyue can’t help but move two steps toward the rocking cradle and observe it curiously.
Was this for her sister? But her sister wasn’t that small anymore. Why was she still using a rocking cradle?
Ning Chanyue thought to herself, pursing her lips. Her gaze looked down, only to see that the bed board was a little old. It was probably second-hand or had been used for a few years.
If her sister was still using it, maybe she could buy her a new one.
Ning Chanyue propped her chin on her hand and leaned down to carefully examine the size of the wooden bed.
Until…
Until Ning Chanyue saw a photo stuck on the railing of the rocking cradle.
Her eyelashes trembled slightly.
Even though she was still some distance away from the photo, she still clearly remembered that photo—it was taken when she and Xu Guiyi’s family went on a trip.
But… why did Xu Guiyi still have it? Did she also miss that time as much as she did these past few years?
So Ning Chanyue’s eyes lit up. She leaned down with anticipation…
But before she could get close to the photo, she suddenly stopped.
If she remembered correctly, her face in that photo should have been full of smiles, but in the photo now, her smiling face had turned into a dark, bottomless hole.
Ning Chanyue’s body swayed twice.
Did Xu Guiyi burn that?
She so hoped it wasn’t.
But the reality told her that it was most likely the case.
Ning Chanyue stared straight at it, her gaze not moving at all.
In the years she was gone, did Xu Guiyi hate her so much?
Did she even have to destroy the few photos she had with her parents, just to… erase her traces?
But… Ning Chanyue bit her lip. If she said she hated her, it couldn’t fully explain Xu Guiyi’s indulgence when she was acting spoiled, her reluctance to part, and her unintentional tenderness these past few days.
Ning Chanyue lowered her eyebrows. The corners of her eyes were still a little red, but they seemed to be a little redder than before.
What was Xu Guiyi thinking?
Ning Chanyue didn’t know, just like she could never see through her dark eyes.
But she couldn’t spend all her time on this fruitless speculation. After a while, when the light coming through the curtains was a little glaring, Ning Chanyue finally let go of her lips that she had bitten until they were a little pale. She got up and walked to the bathroom to get ready.
It was almost eleven o’clock. She had to get up to see her biological mother.
To be honest, perhaps it was because they had separated too early. She didn’t have the same anticipation and excitement for her mother as people in those family reunion shows on TV.
Instead, her mood at this moment was a little nervous, and there was also a sense of melancholy that was stirred up after seeing that photo just now.
Ning Chanyue walked to the sink to get ready. After wiping the water off her face with a towel, she looked up at the mirror in front of the sink.
There was only her reflection in the mirror, but it was as if Xu Guiyi’s reflection appeared as well. No, on the other side, there was also her biological mother’s reflection, whom she had never met. Ning Chanyue’s gaze shifted to both sides a few times, and after blinking twice, only her biological mother’s smiling face remained.
Ning Chanyue’s gaze froze. She closed her eyes. When she opened them again, she only looked at her own reflection in the mirror.
What kind of person would her biological mother be in real life? Would she look a lot like her? Or would she… have the same personality as her adoptive mother said she had?
She didn’t know. She was even a little afraid to guess. But perhaps it was the timidity of the unknown. Her movements unconsciously became a little sluggish. After staying in the bathroom for more than ten minutes, she finally pushed open the door, put on a hat and a mask, went downstairs, and started the car.
After turning a few streets, she arrived at the restaurant You Zhuoqing had mentioned, as agreed.
“Ma’am, do you have a reservation?” When she pushed the door open and walked in, there weren’t many people in the restaurant. A waiter standing by the door came to greet her.
“I do.”
Ning Chanyue nodded and said You Zhuoqing’s name. The waiter led her to the private room.
But even though she was calm the moment she stepped into the restaurant, the further Ning Chanyue walked inside, the more she felt her heart beating faster and faster. By the time her palm touched the cold doorknob, her heart was beating like a drum, even more intensely than when she first saw Xu Guiyi a week ago.
Ning Chanyue took a deep breath, but her slightly sweaty palm was still holding the doorknob. She neither opened it nor let go.
That’s right, she was hesitating and faltering.
But Ning Chanyue clearly hadn’t applied any force. After a while, the doorknob suddenly moved on its own and slowly opened inward.
She saw an old woman with a slightly hunched back standing on the other side of the door. Her hair was white, and there were fine wrinkles around her eyes. When she saw her, her cloudy eyes rolled, and she opened her mouth but didn’t say anything.
Ning Chanyue, however, turned her head hesitantly and looked at the door sign. After confirming that it was the private room You Zhuoqing had booked for her, she looked back at the old woman.
According to Ning Chanyue’s age, her mother should have just entered old age. But the woman in front of her seemed to be in her sixties or seventies at first glance. Perhaps if she went a little further up, she could be her grandmother.
But Ning Chanyue still bit her lip and hesitantly called out, “Mom?”
Unexpectedly, the next second, the woman whimpered, stumbled forward a step, and her wrinkled hands climbed onto her face inch by inch. She mumbled, “Chunxi? Are you Yan Chunxi?”
Ning Chanyue was stunned for a moment, but she still said, “I’m Ning Chanyue.”
But the woman quickly nodded twice and said, “Oh, oh, right, right. Someone told me yesterday that you’re called this name now.”
“Sit, sit.”
She pulled Ning Chanyue’s hand and sat down in the seat. The tremor in her voice was obvious, making Ning Chanyue can’t help but look back.
She saw that the woman’s eyes were already red, but she was blinking, as if she was trying her best to hold back the tears from rolling down her cheeks.
“What do you want to eat?” She picked up the menu on the table and asked Ning Chanyue with her shriveled lips.
