The True Record of a Flirty Omega's Failed Balancing Act - Chapter 26
Chapter 26
â—ŽIs she still sad?â—Ž
One step, two steps.
Xu Guiyi walked very slowly and softly. But when she reached the landing of the second floor, she seemed unable to bear it any longer. Her body slumped down and she curled up in the corner of the wall, burying her head deep between her knees.
A few more seconds passed, and Xu Guiyi’s chest suddenly began to heave violently. She opened her mouth and took deep breaths, as if trying to suppress the emotions that were desperately trying to surge up.
But unfortunately, it was all in vain.
When she looked up again, Xu Guiyi’s white pants were already stained with two dark patches of tears. If one were a little closer, they would be able to see that her eyes, which she could no longer control, were filled with a thin, transparent mist.
In a daze, Xu Guiyi saw the noon sun, fractured by the carvings on the window, shining into the dim stairwell. But this made her inexplicably think of Ning Chanyue, who was still standing under the sun when they parted.
Is she still standing there now? It must be very hot. Can her delicate skin handle it?
Thinking of this, Xu Guiyi’s heart inexplicably twitched. Her eyelashes trembled, but the myriad of sorrows and sadness turned into a sigh. Her hands, which were already clenched into fists, unconsciously dug deeper into her palms at this moment.
Until she felt a sharp pain in her palm, Xu Guiyi paused but still didn’t let go. She still used her sharp nails to press hard on the broken skin.
Does Ning Chanyue hurt this much too? Or even more?
The thought of Ning Chanyue’s free-falling tears suddenly came to Xu Guiyi’s mind.
But she was powerless. Or rather, Ning Chanyue’s pain at this moment was entirely of her own making.
There was no loud crying, no heart-wrenching sobs, but for some reason, Xu Guiyi’s head still ached with a loud buzz.
But perhaps hearing another familiar set of footsteps from downstairs reminded her that she couldn’t wallow in this fruitless sadness anymore. Xu Guiyi, uncharacteristically a little flustered, wiped away the tears that were about to spill from the corners of her eyes.
She stood up but started walking downstairs.
“You’re back. I was just walking around downstairs with my sister. I can’t believe I didn’t see you.”
At the next corner, Xu Guiyi saw the owner of the footsteps, who was Grandma Zhou. She was walking upstairs, holding her sister. As soon as Grandma Zhou saw her, she smiled kindly and said this.
Xu Peian also turned her head when she heard the sound. After recognizing that the person not far away was her older sister, she raised her hands in Xu Guiyi’s direction and started babbling, signaling for her sister to hold her.
So Xu Guiyi quickly walked down a few steps and took her sister from Grandma Zhou’s arms.
But the moment she took her sister, Xu Guiyi heard Grandma Zhou’s voice. Grandma Zhou leaned forward toward Xu Guiyi and asked with concern, “Xiao Xu, why are your eyes so red?”
As if not wanting Grandma Zhou to see through her, Xu Guiyi quickly turned her head away and said, “It’s nothing… I didn’t sleep well last night.”
Although when she said this, her voice was still trembling clumsily.
But because Grandma Zhou was old and hard of hearing, she couldn’t hear the flaw in Xu Guiyi’s tone. She frowned and thought for a few seconds before suddenly smiling with realization. With her hands behind her back, she said, “Oh—did you go out with that girl who’s been staying at your place last night? How are you and that girl doing?”
But Xu Guiyi had never told Grandma Zhou about her and Ning Chanyue’s relationship… So how did Grandma Zhou know?
“She’s doing well.”
But Xu Guiyi didn’t ask for details. She just said this. This time, she didn’t deny their relationship again. But now that things had come to this, there seemed to be no need to acknowledge it anymore.
Xu Guiyi’s voice was very low, a little muffled. Then, she took a deep breath, changed the subject, and asked, “You called this morning and said my sister had some symptoms again. What’s wrong?”
“Oh,” When she said this, Grandma Zhou sighed, and her voice also had a hint of guilt. The already obvious wrinkles between her eyebrows deepened a little. She said, “I’m getting old and muddle-headed. I forgot to give Anan her medicine this morning. When I saw she wasn’t looking good, I panicked and called you. It wasn’t until later that I remembered and gave her the medicine, and she got much better.”
After she finished speaking, Xu Guiyi also asked about Grandma Zhou’s health. She wanted to invite Grandma Zhou to eat with her, but Grandma Zhou kept refusing. So the two of them walked up the stairs together, chatting with each other, and went back to their respective homes.
After returning home, Xu Guiyi put her sister in the rocking crib and put a few toys that her sister liked to play with in the crib. After putting the stew on the stove, Xu Guiyi walked to the bathroom, as usual, to put the clothes to be washed into the washing machine.
But when she saw Ning Chanyue’s clothes in the basin, her hand paused, but she still picked them out one by one.
But as soon as she had all of Ning Chanyue’s clothes in her hand, Xu Guiyi’s breathing caught. The clothes still had the scent of Ning Chanyue’s pheromones. The pheromones seemed to be as proactive and passionate as their owner. The strong jasmine scent rushed into her nostrils.
Xu Guiyi’s eyes darkened. After putting the clothes into another basin, she reached for the laundry powder on the shelf, but this time, all she saw were the pale purple jasmine-scented laundry pods.
Xu Guiyi tugged at the corner of her lips, but her smile was full of bitterness.
How could the house already be filled with her traces after living together for less than two weeks?
That’s right. Without a doubt, Ning Chanyue was the one who bought that box of laundry pods. She remembered when she first bought them, Ning Chanyue had raised an eyebrow proudly and said that she wanted Xu Guiyi to have her scent on her at all times.
She remembered saying that it wasn’t necessary at that time. But in the next second, Ning Chanyue pouted and asked her, “Don’t you like it?”
She didn’t say anything, but she saw Ning Chanyue pout and still walked toward the bathroom with the box of pods.
But how could she not like it? Of course, she liked it.
Memories, without regard for time or place, entered Xu Guiyi’s mind. Ning Chanyue was always like this. Compared to other Omegas, she was passionate and full of life. She was so captivating that she couldn’t look away, and perhaps it wasn’t just her eyes, but her heart was also captivated.
After a long time, Xu Guiyi finally started the washing machine. But after that, she didn’t leave the bathroom. Instead, she sat on a chair, took out her phone, and opened the WeChat conversation named “lemoon.”
Then, a series of chat logs popped up on her phone. The last message was still from two or three days ago, after Xu Guiyi agreed to go on the trip with her. Ning Chanyue’s intimate reply at two or three in the morning was, “I just fell asleep… You’re really going out with me? Yay! Mua~”
Xu Guiyi couldn’t help but scroll up through her conversation with Ning Chanyue. They had chatted almost every day for the past two weeks, although it was obvious that the white message boxes on the left appeared more often.
The more Xu Guiyi scrolled up, the darker her eyes became. Finally, when she scrolled to Ning Chanyue’s “Love you~” which she had sent for the countless time a few days ago, Xu Guiyi suddenly closed her eyes. She took a deep breath, as if to suppress the sadness that was about to burst from her chest.
But when she opened her eyes again, she tapped on the chat box and, seemingly without emotion, typed: After you pack up your things this afternoon, you should leave.
Then she clicked send, all in one go.
But as if she didn’t dare to look at the message Ning Chanyue would send her, Xu Guiyi immediately locked her phone and put it in her pocket after sending the message. The washing machine whirred, covering Xu Guiyi’s heavy sigh.
However, before the last echo of that sigh had completely faded, Xu Guiyi smelled the stew from the kitchen, which was already a little too cooked.
She immediately got up, walked to the kitchen, poured the stew into a bowl, and then carried her sister from the bedroom. As usual, she let her sit in the baby chair and fed her one spoonful at a time, prioritizing her.
But although it was like usual, it was also a little different. Because it was obvious that there was one less person at the dining table this time.
Not just Xu Guiyi, but her sister on the side also noticed.
“Jie-jie, jie-jie…”
Xu Guiyi was just putting some vegetables into her sister’s bowl. Thinking she was calling her, Xu Guiyi turned her head, but she saw that her sister was pointing at the empty seat, repeating the same words.
Xu Guiyi lowered her brows. She was silent for two seconds but then said to her sister, “Jie-jie and her… broke up. She probably won’t come to our house anymore.”
Her sister naturally didn’t understand what Xu Guiyi meant, but she could hear the disappointment in Xu Guiyi’s voice. Her mouth drooped, and it was obvious that she was about to cry again.
When Xu Guiyi brought the spoon to her sister’s mouth again, her sister tightly closed her lips and turned her face away. She also retched and spit out the food she hadn’t finished chewing. The food, which had already been chewed into a paste, instantly smeared all over her sister’s chin.
Seeing that her sister wasn’t doing well, Xu Guiyi picked her up from the baby chair and held her in her arms. She used a tissue to wipe the food off her chin, forced a smile, and said to her gently, “Be a good girl, Anan. Finish your food, and then Jie-jie will watch a dinosaur documentary with you, okay?”
Seeing her sister smile and hearing her favorite dinosaurs, her sister’s brows relaxed. A child’s emotions come and go quickly. She just put the unpleasantness from before behind her.
Although the shadow in Xu Guiyi’s eyes became even heavier.
The meal was finished without any major incidents. Xu Guiyi washed the dishes and, as promised, watched the dinosaur documentary with her sister. However, before they were even halfway through, her sister fell into a deep sleep in her arms.
After all the commotion, it was already past one-thirty. Xu Guiyi no longer had time for a nap. After she gently put her sister back in the rocking crib, she walked to the bathroom, put the washed clothes in a basin, and was about to hang them on the balcony.
But as soon as she stepped onto the balcony, her footsteps paused.
Through the balcony window, she saw that Ning Chanyue’s car was still parked in the same spot, not moving at all.
Xu Guiyi’s hand holding the basin tightened.
Is Ning Chanyue in the car? Is she still sad?
Xu Guiyi couldn’t help but think this.
