The True Record of a Flirty Omega's Failed Balancing Act - Chapter 5
Chapter 5
â—Ž Though you’re the exception â—Ž
“You’re back?”
As soon as Xu Guiyi opened the door and looked up, she saw Ning Chanyue standing at the entrance with a big smile, holding their shoes for her and Xu Pei’an.
Xu Guiyi thanked her. As she sat on the sofa with the shoes, she noticed a folding bed next to the sofa. The sheets and blanket were already laid out.
She raised an eyebrow and looked at Ning Chanyue. She had made herself right at home, not treating herself like a guest at all.
“How do you like the bed cover I picked out?” Ning Chanyue admitted it generously, but she seemed to be afraid that Xu Guiyi wouldn’t approve of her setting up the bed. She paused and quickly changed the subject. “I don’t have any appointments today, and since I can’t go into your bedroom, I cleaned the entire apartment this morning. Also, the food is getting cold, do you still want to eat some?”
“Thank you. But I won’t eat it. I’ll just wrap it in plastic wrap and put it in the fridge for tomorrow.”
After saying that, Xu Guiyi put her sister down on the floor and took out a few of her favorite toys from the toy box. Her sister’s attention span had improved a lot recently. After playing with the wind chime hanging on the wall for a while, she started dancing and laughing along with the crisp sound of the chime, seemingly having completely forgotten about Xu Guiyi’s existence.
After taking care of her sister, Xu Guiyi walked over to the dining room. But when she glanced at the dishes on the table, her pupils constricted slightly in surprise.
There were four dishes and one soup on the table. Other than the steamed egg with minced meat and the shrimp with tofu, which were clearly for her sister, the other dishes, braised pork with preserved vegetables, sweet and sour pork, and a sweet soup, were all her favorite dishes from a few years ago.
These dishes were time-consuming and complicated to make. It was obvious that Ning Chanyue had put a lot of thought into them.
Even though they had only been together for one day this time, Xu Guiyi could still easily feel that Ning Chanyue was trying very hard to please her.
After all, when they were living together a few years ago, whenever Ning Chanyue returned from an event, she would just collapse on the bed, complaining about how tired she was and asking Xu Guiyi for a massage. She wouldn’t lift a finger to do any of the household chores, and she would even try to get Xu Guiyi to do her schoolwork for her.
To be honest, this version of Ning Chanyue felt a little unfamiliar to Xu Guiyi, and a little… uncomfortable.
Seeing Xu Guiyi, Ning Chanyue quickly sought praise. “This sweet and sour pork was your favorite back then.”
After saying that, she looked up, her eyes shining, as if she was waiting for Xu Guiyi to praise her.
“Thank you,” Xu Guiyi’s hand holding the plastic wrap was taken by Ning Chanyue, but Xu Guiyi didn’t look up at her and continued, “But I don’t like it anymore.”
The smile on Ning Chanyue’s face froze, but she quickly returned to her previous expression and said, “Oh… Then what do you like now? I’ll make a note of it. Next time, I’ll make all your favorite dishes.”
But Xu Guiyi didn’t respond. She just lowered her head and put a layer of plastic wrap on the steamed egg. The atmosphere became cold for a moment, eerily silent.
Ning Chanyue pursed her lips, remembering that Xu Guiyi’s expression had not been like this when she was with that other person downstairs.
Xu Guiyi was laughing and talking with that girl, looking very happy.
She recognized that the girl next to Xu Guiyi was the one who had kissed Xu Guiyi yesterday. Was Xu Guiyi standing her up tonight to have dinner with her?
Did she know what dishes Xu Guiyi liked to eat now?
Did she know Xu Guiyi’s preferences better than she did?
A strong sense of unease suddenly welled up in Ning Chanyue’s heart. She was about to take a few deep breaths to see if there were any other omega scents on Xu Guiyi, but then she remembered that omegas now wear scent blockers when they go out and their pheromones usually don’t leak out unless they are intentionally released.
So she naturally took the steamed egg from Xu Guiyi’s hand. As they made eye contact, Ning Chanyue pretended to say nonchalantly, “The omega who just brought you back on the electric bike was the one who kissed you last night, wasn’t she? She’s so pretty.”
Xu Guiyi frowned, as if she was thinking. “Which omega?”
Ning Chanyue tried not to overthink it. She took a deep breath, put the plastic-wrapped food in the fridge, and then continued with a forced casualness, “The short-haired omega who rode you back on the electric bike just now. You two are both from Nancheng Medical University, right?”
“Oh, her. She’s a beta,” Xu Guiyi turned around and saw the undisguised joy in Ning Chanyue’s eyes. She added, “You don’t need to think too much.”
Was she comforting her? Although Ning Chanyue seemed to have thought of something and was stunned for a moment, her eyes couldn’t help but curve, and she was so happy that she almost jumped up.
Then she heard Xu Guiyi say, “Because there’s no need. You and I are just friends with benefits.”
Ning Chanyue’s hand, which was closing the refrigerator door, paused. She looked at Xu Guiyi in disbelief, but her expression was still as normal as ever. Ning Chanyue bit her lip, forcing out a smile. “How is that possible? Guiyi, don’t tease me.”
Xu Guiyi used a rag to wipe the soup left on the table from earlier. She shrugged and said, “Why would I tease you? You’re just one of them. Some of them scream better than you, and some of them are more straightforward than you, not like you, clinging to me like a piece of gum. I just haven’t hooked up with anyone in a while, and you came to my door and kept begging me to touch you, so I slept with you… When your heat is over, you should leave.”
Xu Guiyi said this whole string of words in one breath. She knew her words were harsh and full of made-up things, but she just wanted Ning Chanyue to stop having any extra thoughts about her. After all, in this one day, Ning Chanyue had been fawning over her and prying about whether she had other people in her life. Even if she was slow, she knew what Ning Chanyue was trying to do.
But now they were from two different worlds. She was just an ordinary graduate student worrying about her livelihood every day, while Ning Chanyue was a big star who lived a carefree life and was constantly surrounded by people. There was no better way to describe the gap between them. And their past entanglements dictated that they should have no contact with each other for the rest of their lives. Why was she still clinging to her like this?
So no matter what Ning Chanyue’s plans were, she just wanted Ning Chanyue to give up as soon as possible.
But Ning Chanyue’s reaction was bigger than she had expected. She stood frozen in front of the refrigerator door, her face pale. She kept shaking her head and repeating, “I don’t believe it.”
After all, ever since she had met Xu Guiyi, she had only been with Xu Guiyi, and Xu Guiyi had only been with her. With other people…? No, that’s impossible.
Even though Ning Chanyue didn’t believe Xu Guiyi’s words, she was so hurt that her lips drooped, and her eyes seemed to have a film of moisture—she looked like she was about to cry from sadness.
Ning Chanyue’s expression of being on the verge of tears reminded Xu Guiyi of the first time she saw those photos of Ning Chanyue and someone else in bed. She had a similar dazed look on her face.
Right, it’s not like Ning Chanyue hadn’t been with other people or hadn’t cheated. Why was she pretending to be so innocent in front of her now, as if she was the one who had hurt her?
Xu Guiyi’s hand, holding the rag, tightened a little. She picked up the water cup next to her and took a few big gulps, as if she wanted the warm water to wash away the frustration and anger that had just risen in her heart.
But when Xu Guiyi put the cup down and looked up, she saw that Ning Chanyue had walked over to her at some point. She was right next to Xu Guiyi, looking up and staring intently at her. She asked, as if to torture herself, “Do you temporarily mark them too? Do you let them live with you?”
Fortunately, Ning Chuyue saw Xu Guiyi struggle for a moment and finally shake her head.
Xu Guiyi said, “No. Temporarily marking you was just… an accident, but I can compensate you.”
Since she had only temporarily marked her, it meant that she was a little different.
Ning Chanyue tilted her head and thought for a while. “Then compensate me by letting me live in your house during my heat. Okay?”
Ning Chanyue seemed not to have fully recovered from her sadness. The end of her voice was a little shaky, and the tip of her nose was slightly red. If she hadn’t been trying so hard to hold back, the tears in her eyes would have fallen with her next breath.
She looked so pitiful.
Xu Guiyi turned her head away, trying not to look at her expression. “Live at my place? Aren’t you in the middle of a movie promotion? Don’t you have any more events to go to?”
Ning Chanyue immediately answered, “I have one more movie promotion tomorrow morning at the Nancheng Academy of Fine Arts. That’s the last one. I’m going to start filming next month, so I don’t have any events until then.”
Which meant that she had time to live at Xu Guiyi’s place until her heat was over.
“Whatever you want.” Anyway, during a temporary mark, an alpha couldn’t just kick out their omega.
After hearing that, the corners of Ning Chanyue’s mouth curved up, and her dimples seemed to show that her mood had cleared up. She blinked a few times, trying her best to hold back the tears that had welled up in her eyes. Her fluttering eyelashes were like a puppy’s wagging tail.
It seemed that this was enough to satisfy her.
After cleaning up the dining room, Xu Guiyi was about to go to the living room to check on her sister, but as she walked past Ning Chanyue, the familiar and rich jasmine scent from last night happened to sneak into her nose again.
Xu Guiyi stopped and frowned at Ning Chanyue. “Is your scent blocker not on properly? I can smell your pheromones.”
She didn’t want to make the same mistake she made yesterday because of pheromones.
Ning Chanyue also frowned in confusion. She reached a hand to the back of her neck and touched the scent blocker on her gland. She said with certainty, “It’s on properly. Oh—maybe it’s because I haven’t changed it in a few hours. It’s true that scent blockers can leak pheromones if they’re not changed frequently during heat. And I heard that during a temporary mark, both parties are more sensitive to each other’s pheromones. No wonder you could smell mine before I did.”
After Ning Chanyue said that, she peeled off the ineffective scent blocker and took a new one out of her pocket. She put one hand on the back of her neck, feeling for the gland, and used the other hand to stick the scent blocker on.
But why could she still smell the pheromones?
The fresh jasmine scent continuously snuck from Xu Guiyi’s nostrils into her bloodstream, eventually turning into a potent aphrodisiac, screaming at her to hug her, to kiss this Ning Chanyue, whose tears hadn’t even dried yet.
No, she couldn’t.
Xu Guiyi held her breath and asked, “Is your scent blocker still not on properly?”
“Huh?” Ning Chanyue was stunned. She reached behind her neck again and touched it. She gave an awkward laugh. “I guess so. I’ll put it on again.”
Xu Guiyi sighed. She took the new scent blocker from Ning Chanyue’s hand and walked behind her. “I’ll help you with it.”
After all, there wouldn’t be such a mistake if she did it.
But when she pulled down Ning Chanyue’s collar and saw the large part of the gland that was not covered by the scent blocker, she couldn’t help but gasp.
Ning Chanyue’s gland was swollen into a bump that was a centimeter high. The area that Xu Guiyi had bitten yesterday had started to fester and ooze pus, and the surrounding area was a purplish red.
Logically, although an omega’s gland can be injured after being marked, its self-healing ability is usually extremely strong, and the wound would heal in about half a day.
How could this happen?
“What’s wrong?” Seeing that Xu Guiyi hadn’t moved, Ning Chanyue turned her head and looked at Xu Guiyi curiously.
Xu Guiyi reached out and tore off the crooked scent blocker. Her fingertips unintentionally grazed Ning Chanyue’s gland, and she heard a soft moan.
“Does it hurt?”
“No.”
“Then what does it feel like?”
“It feels good. Last night… also felt good.” The current Ning Chanyue was never shy about expressing her feelings in this regard.
“…….”
Xu Guiyi’s mouth twitched slightly in frustration. But this scene inexplicably reminded her of her and Ning Chanyue’s rushed first time.
She still remembered back then, Ning Chanyue had taken too many inhibitors and had developed an immunity. The doctor suggested that since she had a girlfriend, she could temporarily stop taking inhibitors and prescribed some hormone-regulating medicine for her.
The next heat happened to coincide with their one-year anniversary. She and Ning Chanyue had planned on the way back from the hospital to have their first time together on that day, but they didn’t expect that as soon as they got back, Ning Chanyue took the medicine, and her pheromones uncontrollably leaked out.
Yes, she was in heat.
But Xu Guiyi was inexperienced and didn’t know the exact steps. She immediately used two fingers, and it hurt Ning Chanyue so much that her face turned pale, and she kicked her legs, saying she didn’t want it anymore.
But even with that much pain, after Ning Chanyue recovered, she comforted Xu Guiyi, saying it was her fault for being too nervous. She blushed and held Xu Guiyi’s hand, telling her little by little where her pleasure points were.
“What’s wrong?”
By the time Xu Guiyi came back to her senses, she found that Ning Chanyue was holding her hand again.
Ning Chanyue’s palm was soft and small, so soft that it seemed to be able to contain everything from her past, and so small that it seemed to be able to contain only one person.
Would that person be her now?
So Xu Guiyi lowered her eyes and shook off her hand.
She said in a low voice, reminding Ning Chanyue, “Ning Chanyue, your gland is swollen. It doesn’t look normal.”
