The True Record of a Flirty Omega's Failed Balancing Act - Chapter 9
Chapter 9
â—Ž But I am your name (un) and word (un) of a wife! â—Ž
One step, two steps.
Ning Chanyue’s peripheral vision passed through the bustling crowd, and she vaguely saw Xu Guiyi’s figure.
She looked up again and again.
Xu Guiyi was walking toward her, also looking into the crowd.
But further back, Xu Guiyi’s face was heavily blocked by the overlapping figures of passers-by.
She couldn’t see her.
She could only see You Zhuoqing with her ominous eyes in front of her.
What should she do?
Her relationship with Xu Guiyi had just started to get a little better. What would Xu Guiyi think if she saw with her own eyes that she was still in contact with You Zhuoqing?
Ning Chanyue looked at You Zhuoqing with a rare plea. But when she glanced at the faint scar on You Zhuoqing’s neck, she suddenly raised her chin, her eyes passing over You Zhuoqing and landing on a white-bearded old man.
“You Dufen,” Ning Chanyue said.
You Zhuoqing was stunned and subconsciously looked back. Just as You Zhuoqing was about to see clearly, Ning Chanyue immediately grabbed her wrist and walked quickly in the opposite direction.
Thankfully, compared to her disgust for Xu Guiyi, You Zhuoqing was more afraid of You Dufen.
“Damn it! Let go of me,” when Ning Chanyue dragged You Zhuoqing to the stairwell on the twelfth floor of the hospital, You Zhuoqing violently shook the arm that Ning Chanyue was holding. She was out of breath and said with a hint of doubt, “Did you really see You Dufen?”
Ning Chanyue nodded confidently. “Of course. You Dufen often comes to the hospital these two years, and it’s a season when it’s easy to get sick. It’s perfectly normal for him to come to the famous Second Hospital.”
Having been with You Zhuoqing for a few years, Ning Chanyue was already an expert at these kinds of lies.
But this wasn’t the first time Ning Chanyue had lied to her. She crossed her arms and sized Ning Chanyue up. “Are you sure you’re not lying to me?”
Ning Chanyue rolled her eyes at her. “Don’t blame me if you’re blind and didn’t see him.”
You Zhuoqing was fearless, except for her father, You Dufen.
You Zhuoqing’s brows were furrowed deeply. She squeezed Ning Chanyue’s arm and repeated, “If you’re lying to me, you’re dead, Ningning.”
Listen to that. Not only was she being relentless, but she was also using the word “dead” to threaten her again.
Ning Chanyue looked at You Zhuoqing. To be honest, You Zhuoqing’s behavior was a huge contrast to her appearance. The You Zhuoqing in front of her had short, curly blonde hair and an eyebrow piercing at the end of her eyebrow, but her eyes were not sharp, and the corners of her lips naturally turned up slightly, making her seem like she was always smiling and approachable.
The first time Ning Chanyue met You Zhuoqing, she was fooled by her appearance. Who would have thought that under such a friendly exterior, there was a twisted soul that had been nurtured day and night?
She impatiently brushed away You Zhuoqing’s hand, clicked her tongue, and said, “Watch your behavior, You Zhuoqing. Our contract is about to expire soon. You’d better stop laying your hands on me. It’ll be a good way for you to get desensitized.”
You Zhuoqing, who had always been self-willed, wouldn’t listen to that. She reached out again, trying to hold Ning Chanyue’s wrist, and said, “So what? As long as I’m your legitimate wife for one day, I have the right to touch you for one day.”
But the moment You Zhuoqing’s hand touched her arm, Ning Chanyue half-raised her hand.
Leaving You Zhuoqing’s hand awkwardly suspended in mid-air.
You Zhuoqing seemed to have thought of something. She said, “You like that person named Xu, so you won’t let me touch you, right?”
Seeing Ning Chanyue’s silence, You Zhuoqing more or less figured it out in her heart. She let out a cold snort, and the anger that had just been extinguished rekindled. Her mouth started spewing words like a machine gun. “Damn it! What’s so good about that Xu Guiyi? She has no money, she’s not as pretty as me, and she has a sick sister and lives like a mouse in that little rented apartment all day. And she…”
Slap!
You Zhuoqing’s words came to an abrupt halt. She was slapped so hard that her head turned to the side. Then, she covered her face in disbelief and heard Ning Chanyue say—
“Yes, I like Xu Guiyi. And I hate you. What about it?”
“You…”
You Zhuoqing’s left cheek instantly turned a bright red.
The release of her anger was abruptly interrupted by this loud slap. She subconsciously covered the side of her face that had been slapped. A few seconds later, she turned her head back and stared at the seemingly weak Ning Chanyue in disbelief.
But You Zhuoqing quickly recovered and began to rub the mark left on her face by Ning Chanyue, licking her lips and laughing, “Ningning’s hands are so soft. Is this a massage for me?”
Ning Chanyue’s hands slowly clenched into fists. She bit her back teeth and squeezed a few words out from between them. “Do you want another one?”
You Zhuoqing shamelessly said, “Yes, Ningning.”
Used to You Zhuoqing’s shameless behavior, Ning Chanyue didn’t reply and didn’t even bother to roll her eyes at her. Seeing this, You Zhuoqing laughed a few times and moved a little closer to Ning Chanyue.
After a while, You Zhuoqing finally put down the hand that was covering her face. Ning Chanyue looked up and saw that the side of her face was not just red but had even started to swell slightly.
If it really didn’t hurt at all as she claimed, then You Zhuoqing was really good at taking a slap.
You Zhuoqing’s stubbornness made Ning Chanyue want to laugh, but before she could, she seemed to have thought of something and pursed her lips.
The movie promotion was tomorrow morning. If she didn’t disinfect it in time, the mark on her face would probably not be covered by makeup.
So Ning Chanyue hesitated for a moment and said, “Your face is swollen. Since we’re in a hospital, go get some medicine and put it on.”
But You Zhuoqing was still staring at Ning Chanyue, not moving at all. Even when she heard Ning Chanyue’s words, she didn’t even take out the mirror she always carried with her to check on her face.
The Ning Chanyue in front of her had a nonchalant expression and a calm tone, showing no sign of guilt or apology. Slowly, You Zhuoqing’s gaze gradually shifted from a playful one to a scrutinizing one.
She finally recovered from her temporary bravado—
She actually slapped her, all for that person.
“What’s wrong?” Ning Chanyue felt uncomfortable under You Zhuoqing’s stare. She frowned and asked.
“…What do you think?” You Zhuoqing asked Ning Chanyue in return.
She was worried about Ning Chanyue late at night. She hadn’t changed out of her pajamas and wasn’t wearing any makeup. She took a one-hour taxi ride and rushed to the hospital, praying all the way, afraid of what she would find Ning Chanyue in.
The result of her burning anxiety was getting a slap from Ning Chanyue.
It was so absurd that she wanted to laugh.
Thinking of this, she asked again, “Ningning, is your attitude toward that person named Xu the same as your attitude toward me?”
Ning Chanyue slowly shook her head and said sincerely, “Of course not. But to be honest… you deserved all of this.”
You Zhuoqing, on the side, listened, pursed her lips, and sized up Ning Chanyue.
The hallway fell silent for a moment.
To be honest, she wasn’t sure what she felt after hearing those words. Maybe it was resentment, grievance, or jealousy, or maybe all three emotions surged into her heart at once.
She turned her body slightly, trying her best to not let Ning Chanyue see the emotions about to appear on her face.
In the six years they had known each other, had she ever treated Ning Chanyue poorly?
She made the then-unknown Ning Chanyue and herself a CP. She used her fame to help Ning Chanyue become a top celebrity. And she let Ning Chanyue live in a big house she would have never been able to afford in her lifetime.
But why? Why did Ning Chanyue treat her like this?
In the past few years, Ning Chanyue had ignored her and mocked her whenever she saw her. But yesterday, she just saw her old flame from a distance on a TV screen, and she immediately went to her and even took care of her sister.
The lights in the hospital hallway were sound-activated. They quickly went out a few seconds after Ning Chanyue’s words fell. With the moonlight from the small window above, You Zhuoqing looked at Ning Chanyue again. Her eyes were raised, and her chin was tense. She was already glaring at her.
That’s right, You Zhuoqing vaguely realized that she had never seen Ning Chanyue have such a hostile attitude toward anyone else but herself.
She looked up at the sky outside the window with a hint of confusion, but she only saw that the moonlight filled the hallway outside the window, yet it didn’t shine on her, the person closest to the window.
You Zhuoqing’s voice tightened. She opened her mouth but couldn’t make a sound.
After a while, she finally spoke, her throat full of bitterness. “Do you hate me that much, Ningning?”
Ning Chanyue didn’t say anything, but her expression seemed to say it all.
You Zhuoqing suddenly felt a great heaviness in her heart.
She wanted to take a deep breath to calm herself down, but it only fueled the depression and anxiety in her heart.
“Ring, ring, ring~”
The untimely ringing of her phone suddenly rang, as if it was mocking You Zhuoqing’s loneliness and inner bitterness at this moment. She frowned and took out her phone, but when she saw who was calling, she looked at Ning Chanyue and then put the phone to her ear.
“Ms. You, did you go to the hospital? There’s a photo…”
“Wait.”
You Zhuoqing interrupted the person’s words. Then, she put down her phone, leaned close to Ning Chanyue, and the moment Ning Chanyue pursed her lips and looked at the phone, she put it on speaker and said to the person on the other end, “You can continue.”
“Okay, Ms. You. Someone just took a picture of you and Ms. Ning at the hospital… struggling. It’s already been uploaded online, but for now, there’s not too much negative discussion. It’s mostly just people gossiping. Do you want to have the post removed to control public opinion, Ms. You?”
As Ning Chanyue listened, her eyes gradually widened. You Zhuoqing deliberately turned up the volume a little, making sure that Ning Chanyue could hear every single word clearly.
Then, Ning Chanyue took out her phone. She tapped on her phone a few times and found the picture the person was talking about.
In the photo, You Zhuoqing was poking her heart, her expression full of anger, and she, standing next to You Zhuoqing, was also clearly dissatisfied. The tension between the two of them seemed to be leaping off the screen.
The post had only been up for five minutes, but because of their fame and the fact that they hadn’t been seen together in private for so long, it sparked speculation and curiosity. The number of comments was already close to a thousand.
The comments were nothing more than solo fans arguing, passers-by being curious or questioning their use of public resources, or CP fans desperately posting “Youyou and Ningning, please get back together” over and over again like a copy-and-paste.
As Ning Chanyue scrolled through the increasing number of comments, her brows furrowed little by little, and the color in her face gradually disappeared.
You Zhuoqing curled her lips. She knew exactly what Ning Chanyue was worried about. So she took two steps forward, took the opportunity to grab Ning Chanyue’s wrist, which she hadn’t been able to grab before, and then cleared her throat and said—
“Do you want me to delete them?”
“Then come home with me, Ningning.”
