The Ultimate Sage Who Faked Incompetence and Was Disinherited Just Wants to Enjoy His New Life! - Episode 10: A New Life
Episode 10: A New LifeÂ
After leaving the Adventurers’ Guild, we headed straight into the forest. Of course, I was running. Just at a light jog, though.Â
“Come on, keep going! There’s some medicinal herbs over there!”Â
“Hahh… hahh… got it. But… hahh… aren’t there any growing closer?”Â
“There are, but that wouldn’t be much of a workout, would it?”Â
Reality was cruel. I had only planned on a short run. But thanks to Lilia’s supervision, I had already covered quite a distance.Â
Well, at least with her using Analyze magic, I didn’t have to stay on constant guard or check every plant at my feet.Â
I moved in the direction Lilia pointed. I finally found the medicinal herbs. I plucked them while catching my breath.Â
“No monsters nearby?”Â
“None. We took out a lot of Goblins yesterday. So we probably won’t be seeing any for a while. If you’re looking for prey, maybe Forest Wolves? If we go deeper, we might find Wild Boars, Brown Bears, or Forest Snakes.”Â
Those were creatures I had only seen in the monster guide. If I remembered correctly, all of them were the kind that required multiple people to take down. That meant they were troublesome opponents.Â
I wondered how big their magic stones were. The stronger the monster, the larger its magic stone—though why that was the case remained unknown.Â
“Oh! I found mana grass! Let’s collect that and call it a day. Now, get running!”Â
“Y-You demon…”Â
“What are you talking about? I’m just a cute little Fairy!”Â
Following Lilia’s orders, I ran once again. After collecting the mana grass, we returned to the town of Colibri. Hopefully, this training was actually building my stamina. Otherwise, all this effort would be for nothing—though at least I was earning money.Â
Back in town, we searched for restaurants near the Silver Crescent Moon Inn. From now on, we’d likely be eating around here. So mapping out the area in advance wouldn’t hurt.Â
Lilia seemed to understand that too. She was observing our surroundings with a serious expression.Â
“Oh, there’s a bathhouse over there.”Â
“Do you really want to take a bath? We have time, so we could go in if you want.”Â
“Hmm… looks like it’s separated by gender, so I’ll pass.”Â
“O-Oh, right.”Â
It seemed that Lilia *really* wanted to bathe together. …Wait, does that mean she doesn’t see me as a man? Maybe she just thinks of me as a little brother or something. That’d be a problem. I’d have to find a way to make her see me differently.Â
Aside from the bathhouse, there was also a laundry service and a storage facility. Additionally, there were shops for magical tools, furniture, weapons, armor, and even jewelry.Â
Despite being a quiet area, it had a decent amount of activity. The products all seemed high-quality. And their prices reflected that.Â
It looked like this district catered to middle-class customers. Now that I was paying attention, many people wore stylish clothing. Fortunately, my own outfit was of decent quality. So I didn’t stand out.Â
“Unless I get more money, I won’t be able to afford much here.”Â
“Wouldn’t it be a good idea to get a weapon?”Â
“I have magic, so I don’t really need one… but maybe I should at least get a staff.”Â
With that thought in mind, I entered a weapon shop.Â
The craftsman-like old man at the back counter gave me a brief glance—then quickly looked away. A second later, he snapped his head back toward us, eyes wide in shock.Â
It was an obvious double take. No doubt, he was surprised by Lilia.Â
“Ah, don’t worry. I make sure she doesn’t cause trouble. Right?”Â
“Of course, I won’t play any pranks. I promise.”Â
Lilia reassured him. Though the old man’s smile remained stiff. Looks like people were going to be startled by her for a while. I just hoped it wouldn’t make her feel uncomfortable.Â
Ignoring the attention, I headed to the section displaying staffs for magic users.Â
I decided on a long staff, one I could use to support myself when tired. The shorter, wand-like staffs were more portable but had weaker magic amplification. They weren’t much better than not using a staff at all. I picked one up and immediately felt the difference.Â
“This one seems pretty good.”Â
The length was just right, and it felt comfortable in my grip. I wondered what material it was made of. It didn’t look like an ordinary wooden branch.
“Are you going with that one? Looks like it’s made from Treant wood. Not bad, but not great either.”Â
“Hey, Lilia, you could phrase that a bit better… Whoa, the price—so expensive! I can’t afford this.”Â
The price was shockingly high. No wonder it felt like a good staff. I hurriedly put it back on the shelf. Still, Lilia’s ‘fairy eyes’ were really useful. From what she told me, they had the power to appraise items.Â
There was a magic spell for appraisal, but I hadn’t been able to use it yet—probably due to lack of experience. According to Lilia, “Once you travel the world and see more things, you’ll be able to use it.” I hoped she was right.Â
I asked if they had any small-sized knives or forks that Lilia could use. But unsurprisingly, they didn’t. Looked like I’d have to find someone to custom-make them for her.Â
After that, we browsed a magical tool shop. But as expected, everything was expensive. Magic tools seemed to be high-end products. Even the most common ones, like magic lanterns, were pricey. It would be a while before I could afford any of them.Â
“What should we do for dinner?”Â
“Hmm… the inn serves food. So why don’t we try eating there?”Â
“Yeah, let’s do that. If the inn’s food is good enough, we won’t have to go out for meals all the time.”Â
We headed straight back to the inn and went to the dining area on the first floor. It seemed to be run by the innkeeper’s son—a young man who looked a little older than me was standing in the kitchen.Â
There were already other customers. And the staff were moving between tables taking orders.Â
After sitting at an open table, I checked the menu on the wall. The recommended dish was fried chicken.Â
“I think I’ll go with the fried chicken.”Â
“No objections.”Â
With Lilia’s approval, I placed the order. Soon, a staff member approached.Â
“One fried chicken, right? Please wait a moment… Oh! Is that a Fairy?! My mom mentioned there was a guest with a Fairy, and that must be you two!”Â
She seemed to be the daughter of the innkeeper. So, was the man in the kitchen actually her father instead of her brother?Â
“Don’t worry, I’ve told her not to cause any mischief. Lilia is well-behaved.”Â
“Oh, her name’s Lilia? How cute!”Â
With that, she went off to relay our order.Â
Maybe I should find a way to hide Lilia so she doesn’t attract attention? But then again, I didn’t want to make her feel restricted.Â
“If only there were more Fairies around, you wouldn’t be treated like such a rarity.”Â
“Are there others like me out there?”Â
“I’m sure there are, somewhere.”Â
This world had Dragons, Spirits, Demon Kings… surely other Fairies existed, too.Â
As I pondered that, our fried chicken arrived. The moment I bit into it, rich oil and savory flavors burst in my mouth—it was delicious.Â
Judging by the steady stream of customers, this place seemed to have a good reputation. It might be a good idea to keep coming here for meals.Â
