Episode 100: Pii-chan’s Anger

Ardan and the others froze as they looked at my suspiciously glowing right hand. 

What am I going to do with this? That’s obvious.

“Pii-chan, don’t you have something you want to say to that shady shadow?”

“…Yes. Well, if you ask me, I do.”

Maybe understanding my intention, Pii-chan spoke in a deep voice unlike anything I had ever heard before. 

Lilia clung to the back of my neck, trembling. 

Hearing that voice, the three people over there stepped back a few steps.

“Then go ahead and tell it directly.”

I poured all the magical power gathered in my right hand into Pii-chan.

Pii-chan grew huge and changed form. 

What appeared was a fire demon with a muscular body and a face full of wrath. 

Ah, this is worse than I thought. 

Next to my ear, Lilia let out a small “Eep.” 

It was a voice I had never heard from her before.

The suspicious shadow stood frozen, looking up at the fire demon. 

If that face had a mouth, it’d probably be hanging open.

“Impermanence is swift, all-consuming flames—disappear!”

Pii-chan’s fist grew even larger and smashed down on the shadowy figure. 

The ground shook from the impact.

Nothing was left behind. 

The spot where the fist hit had turned into a pool of lava. 

…So Pii-chan’s tone changes when it gets mad. 

I’d better not make it angry.

Maybe it used up all its magic with that attack, because Pii-chan returned to its cute little bird form. 

It still seemed angry, but at least it was calm now.

“When Aniki destroyed the magic fountain, the presence of the Water Spirit disappeared too. They were probably using part of the Water Spirit by severing it to twist the ley line.”

“Then, when I destroyed it, maybe it returned to the Water Spirit?”

“I believe that’s likely.”

I’m curious about the Water Spirit’s condition now, but there’s nothing I can do at this point. 

The ley line seems to have gone back to its original place. So monsters probably won’t overflow from this dungeon again.

“For now, it looks like we can relax. …Lilia, are you okay?”

“I-I’m okay. Probably.”

Lilia answered while glancing nervously around her thigh. 

No way…

“Fel, is everything over there okay?”

“Yeah, but we need to deal with this lava. Ice Wall.”

A loud hissing sound echoed as the ice melted. 

Bit by bit, the red ground turned into black earth. 

It must’ve been really hot—getting it cool enough to walk on took quite a while.

“Look. It’s getting darker in the dungeon.”

Prompted by Elise’s voice, I looked up. 

It did seem darker than before.

“Since the ley line is gone, it probably can’t maintain its brightness anymore. If we move now, we should be able to get outside while it’s still shining.”

“Even if it gets dark, we’ve got Small Light. So it’s fine. But that doesn’t mean we should waste magic. Let’s hurry.”

Ardan and the others didn’t seem hurt. 

We hurried across the now-cooled lava and rejoined everyone.

“That was an incredible attack.”

“Yeah. Best not to make Pii-chan mad.”

“There’s no way I can use that kind of power just by being angry. I could only do it because Aniki gave me magic.”

Pii-chan said this proudly. It was puffing out its chest. 

I guess it was bragging about me. But now I might come off as the scary one instead.

“Then it’s better not to make Fel angry, huh?”

“That’s easy. Just don’t mess with Lilia.”

Jill grinned as if he were sure of it. 

No way… 

I tried imagining it… 

Yeah, no way. I really don’t think I could hold myself back.

“Hey, Fel, calm down! Jill was just speaking hypothetically, okay? Hypothetically!”

“I know, Lilia.”

“Really? You were giving off some serious killing intent just now…”

“…..…”

After that, we all left the dungeon in silence.

It was still bright outside, around a little past 3 PM. 

A really awkward time. 

Even if we started running full speed now, we probably wouldn’t make it to Kikyou Town today.

“Looks like we’ll have to camp somewhere.”

“Looks like it. The rocky area probably has more materials for setting up camp. Since there won’t be any more monsters showing up, if you’re tired, we could camp around here.”

We all went “hmm” and started thinking. 

But before that, there was something we had to take care of. 

There was almost no chance that monsters would come out of the dungeon again. But just in case, it’d be better to prepare.

Then I changed the surface to match the surrounding beach. That way, no one would even know there had been a “Coastline Dungeon” here.

“There. All done.”

“Maybe one day, people will start gathering here. It’d make a great vacation spot. Blue ocean, white sand, and gentle waves.”

Lilia, who was perched on my shoulder, leaned her face gently against my neck. 

Just like she said, it really was a beautiful view. 

The sea was so clear we could see the fish swimming. And the sand sparkled under the sun.

“Alright then, let’s make camp here for today.”

“Yeah. You don’t get to see scenery like this very often. We should take full advantage of it.”

“What about the base?”

“I’ll build it.”

Saying that, Lilia used a wood-element spirit magic spell to build a wooden house. 

It was a two-story house with large windows and great ventilation. It was perfect for a place by the sea.

“This house is nice. I don’t know why, but it makes my heart feel excited.”

“Funny, Fel. I feel the same way. We’ve gotta have a campfire tonight.”

“In that case, I’ll make the cooking area outside.”

Each of us unpacked our things, set up tables, and got ready for camp. 

Even after that, we still had time. So we sat upstairs and watched the sea while sipping cold drinks.

“Only a few more days until the ship home departs.”

“So it’s been a month already, huh? Feels like it went by in a flash.”

“No surprise there. We hunted Ghosts, got mithril, and conquered a dungeon. All that in one trip, no wonder it flew by.”

Now that they mentioned it, that was true. 

I guess we’d been way more active this past month than I realized.

“I wonder if we’ll come back to this continent again?”

“Who knows? If we do, I’d like to come on our own airship next time.”

“Oh? Already planning to buy an airship? I’m all for it,” 

Jill said so immediately.

Ardan and Elise nodded in agreement too. 

As Platinum Rank adventurers, even if it’s expensive, we should be able to afford an airship.

While dreaming of things like that, the sun slowly began to set.

Tonight’s dinner was bold and simple—grilled meat and vegetables over an open flame. 

We used sauces we bought in Kikyou to go with it. 

Right now, meat was sizzling on the wire rack, juices dripping down. 

Next to it, colorful green and yellow vegetables were being grilled.

“Jill, make sure you eat your vegetables too.”

“I know, I know. Elise, you my mom or something?”

“Of course not! But if I don’t say anything, you’ll only eat the meat!”

Elise seemed annoyed. 

Apparently, last time they had this meal, Jill ate only meat. 

While watching Jill get scolded, I made sure to put vegetables on my plate too.

When I sandwiched the vegetables between the meat with the sauce and took a bite, the meat juices mixed perfectly with the vegetables. 

The meat was grilled to just the right firmness and melted in my mouth along with the vegetables.

“This is amazing. I can’t tell if it’s the meat, the vegetables, or the sauce that’s best. Lilia, here you go too.”

“Thank you. I think it’s really nice, eating like this with everyone, cooking together.”

“Yeah, I think so too. All the different things come together to make this taste what it is.”

Just like that, we kept eating and drinking until the night completely fell.
