Episode 101: Returning to the Port Town Suiren
By the time the sun had completely set, we started cleaning up after the meal. Leaving the campfire as it was, we began putting the dishes and the wire mesh into the magic bag. Let’s wash those after the sun comes up. It’s hard to do the dishes when it’s dark around us.
“There aren’t many days left before the ship departs. So it’s better not to go farther away from the port town Suiren.”
“To make sure we don’t miss the ship, maybe we should just head toward Suiren already.”
“Yeah, let’s return to Suiren.”
We were planning to return to the original continent on the next ship. After all, we had come to this continent just for a break.
That said, we are adventurers. So we couldn’t sit still and ended up moving around to various places. But even so, I think we were able to enjoy ourselves plenty.
“What about the Water Spirit? I’m sure it’s being controlled, just like Pii-chan was.”
“I think that possibility is high. But we don’t know where the Water Spirit’s true body is. And right now, there’s nothing happening in this country either. What should we do…”
If only there was a visible problem, we could use that location as our goal and move toward it. But we hadn’t heard of anything like that. Kikyo Town was quite large, so information about things happening in this country should be coming in.
“Did you notice anything when you erased the magic fountain?”
“Well, I did sense that a part of the Water Spirit was released. But aside from that, nothing…”
If there had been any other clue related to the Water Spirit, maybe we could have followed it. But unfortunately, it seems there’s nothing. Pii-chan looked down, feeling dejected. Lilia gently petted Pii-chan.
“There are no clues, and there’s no particular problem happening in this country. It would be difficult to find the Water Spirit from that.”
“That’s true. And it’s not like it’s necessarily on land. Remember, Pii-chan was inside a volcano crater?”
“Yeah, that’s right. If it’s somewhere in the sea, then it’s definitely hopeless.”
It’s disappointing, but I think what the three of them are saying is true. Pii-chan probably thinks so too. It quietly looked down. I do want to help somehow. But no matter how much I think, I couldn’t come up with a good idea.
“We can’t just stay in this country forever and keep searching, can we?”
“Yeah. There’s no Adventurers’ Guild here, so we wouldn’t be able to earn money.”
“Well, we’ve got so much money it’s practically rotting. So even if we don’t work, we’ll be fine. But there are people over there who need us.”
Jill looked up at the sky. The sky was filled with shining stars. This view doesn’t change no matter where we are. Not just the Water Spirit—we don’t know when the other Spirits might start moving too. It could be a few years from now, or even decades.
It was just a coincidence that the Fire Spirit, Pii-chan, started moving and that we had made a name for ourselves as Platinum Rank adventurers at the same time. That doesn’t mean it’ll happen again in the future. It’s entirely possible that someone else, not us, will be the one to rescue a Spirit next time.
“We don’t know when the Water Spirit will start moving. But if that happens, we’ll definitely come help.”
“I wish we could go see it right now. But if we don’t know where it is, that’s just not realistic. Even Analyze has its limits.”
Maybe understanding our thoughts, Pii-chan lifted its face.
“I’m sorry for throwing an impossible task at you. The sense of time between us Spirits and you all is different. Such important time can’t be spent on just waiting. Let’s go back.”
“I’m sorry, Pii-chan.”
“Please don’t worry. We Spirits are immortal beings. We’ll meet again somewhere in the far reaches of eternity.”

The next day.
Unlike the calm sea of the previous day, the ocean had become rough like a storm had arrived. It wasn’t that strong winds were blowing, it was just that the waves were crashing against the shore with splashes of water.
Tilting my head in confusion, I went downstairs to the first floor. There, Ardan was preparing breakfast. As I helped with that, I brought up what had just caught my attention.
“Don’t the ocean waves seem strange?”
“So you think so too, Fel? I think so as well. And I’ve got a bad feeling.”
“Does that mean, after all, it’s the work of the Water Spirit? The plan to flood the area with monsters using the dungeon failed. So now it’s trying a different move?”
“That’s a possibility.”
While continuing with the preparations without stopping his hands, Ardan listened and spoke. Ardan’s instincts were usually right. If he had a bad feeling, that meant something was definitely going on. We couldn’t just ignore it.
“Pii-chan, do you sense anything?”
Pii-chan shook its head side to side. For now, there didn’t seem to be any sign of the Water Spirit. I exchanged a glance with Lilia, and she also shook her head side to side. She didn’t seem to have anything in mind either.
Before long, Jill and Elise also came downstairs.
“The sea’s rough.”
“It’s strange, even though there’s no wind. The sky is so clear too… Wait, Ardan, you’ve got a scary look on your face.”
“Maybe so.”
Maybe sensing what that meant, Elise held her breath. Jill scratched his head with a “good grief” look on his face. As expected of childhood friends, he seemed to know Ardan well.
Breakfast was ready. As we ate, I told them that for now, Pii-chan and Lilia hadn’t sensed anything.
“Maybe something is about to happen?”
“Could be. The Water Spirit might show itself.”
“It’s a chance to rescue it.”
Everyone nodded at my words. The problem was where it would appear. To avoid causing damage to the town, it would be best if it came here.
“Where do you think it’s aiming for?”
“Let’s see… Come to think of it, where were you planning to go once you got your body back, Pii-chan?”
“Huh? Let’s see…”
With a “hmm” as if trying to recall, Pii-chan tapped its forehead with the tip of its wing. We watched Pii-chan silently. If we could figure out where Pii-chan, while being controlled by “this planet”, was trying to go, we might also find out where the Water Spirit would head, also being controlled, would head.
“I think it was a place with lots of living creatures. A place where many could be wiped out. That kind of thought almost completely filled my mind.”
“In that case, the Water Spirit is also likely to target a place with many people.”
“The plan to flood the area with monsters and kill living things failed. So, maybe now they’re targeting *us* out of spite?”
“No way…”
Thinking it was just a joke from Lilia, I replied. But Pii-chan suddenly spread its wings as if remembering something.
“It’s exactly that! I only revealed myself because you all got in the way. ‘Eliminate the obstructers’—I definitely heard that voice from ‘this planet’.”
“Then it’s heading for us.”
“And if it’s also a place with lots of people, then that increases the possibility even more.”
The place we were currently in was good for fighting. But there were no people. Even if it came near here, it might still aim for a more populated place. Then, what nearby place had a lot of people? Either Kikyo Town or Port Town Suiren.
However, Kikyo Town was not by the ocean, but a bit inland. In that case, the more likely destination would be—
“It’s probably heading for Port Town Suiren.”
“Yeah. And if we’re there, the obstructers, then it’ll almost certainly come.”
“We should hurry back. If possible, we should help the townspeople evacuate too…”
“The question is how much they’ll listen to strangers like us.”
Even so, doing something was still better than doing nothing. After quickly eating breakfast, we returned our rented lodging to its original state on the beach. And we rushed toward Port Town Suiren.
