Episode 25: Escort Request to the Royal Capital
By the evening of the following day, we had made it back to the town of Colibri. Collecting magic stones had taken longer than expected. Without the Analyze spell, it would have taken even longer.
“We’ve completed the request. Please confirm.”
“Welcome back. Let’s see… This was the Harpy extermination request, right? Please present the magic stones—wait, this many!?”
The receptionist, Eliza-san, was a cat-eared woman. She raised her voice in surprise. She seemed shocked at the bags of magic stones I placed on the counter. One bag wasn’t enough, so I had to bring two.
“My apologies. I see you have a magic bag… But still, this is an incredible amount. I’ll check them right away. So please wait a moment.”
The reception area started buzzing with chatter. Other adventurers glanced over, curious about the commotion. We tried to ignore them as much as possible and sat at a table.
“We should have reported the request during a quieter time tomorrow.”
“You’re right. I was too impatient to find out how much we’d earn.”
“It’s your first Gold Rank request, so it’s understandable. Let’s be more careful next time.”
I took out some cold juice from my magic bag. And we drank it together. As we discussed what to have for dinner, Eliza-san returned with a bag of money. ………..Wasn’t it a bit too big? I could feel people staring at us.
“This is your reward. We also confirmed the magic stone of a Big Harpy, a higher-ranked Harpy. As expected of Gold Rank adventurers. You collected a total of 108 Harpy magic stones, so the payout includes their sale value as well.”
…108 harpies? No wonder gathering the magic stones was so exhausting. Harpy magic stones were relatively large and seemed to fetch a good price. This was a well-paying job.
I could hear murmurs from the other adventurers: “108!?” “Are they monsters?” “Gold Rank!?”
Knowing Eliza-san, she had probably emphasized our achievements on purpose to prevent unnecessary trouble. If we had taken down over 100 Harpies and were Gold Rank adventurers, no one here would be foolish enough to pick a fight with us.
After storing the money in my magic bag, I thanked Eliza-san and left the Adventurers’ Guild. Our earnings were 43 small gold coins and 8 silver coins. My nearly empty wallet from our time in the commercial city of Everan had suddenly become full again. Now, I could even afford to buy some expensive magic tools.
“You made quite a lot. Let’s celebrate today!”
“How about we check out that tavern near the Silver Crescent Moon Inn? Maybe have a drink or two.”
“Great idea! I’ve never had alcohol before, so I’m looking forward to it!”
Wait, Lilia has never had alcohol before? That… might be a problem. I suddenly felt uneasy as we headed to the tavern.
To put it simply, it was a disaster.
Apparently, when Lilia gets drunk, she has the urge to strip. Right in the middle of the tavern, she started making her clothes disappear with magic. Panicking, I wrapped my arms around her to cover her up. We had to leave the rest of our food behind and make a hasty exit.
Completely wasted, Lilia clung to me—completely naked. I had no idea what to do. So I just forced her to lie down and sleep in that state.
From that night on, I engraved this rule into my soul: Never let Lilia drink alcohol.
The next morning, Lilia woke up as usual. She was full of energy and completely unaware of what had happened the night before. It seemed I was the only one still exhausted from yesterday.

Even after reaching Gold Rank, we continued taking on jobs at a steady pace. As Fran-san had mentioned, there weren’t that many Gold Rank requests. But there were plenty of Silver Rank ones.
Since a single job now earned us a decent amount of money, we could afford to take more breaks. I spent my time training magic with Lilia, practicing cooking, and enjoying a fulfilling life.
Then, one day, I received a direct request.
“Fel, you’ve got a personal request. The client is Sancho Galindo from the commercial city of Everan. You remember him, right?”
“Of course. He was the first person to ever request an escort from me. What’s the job?”
“He wants you to escort him to the royal capital this time.”
“The royal capital! That’s perfect, Fel! Let’s take it! We were just talking about visiting the capital, weren’t we?”
Lilia’s excitement was obvious as she huffed through her nose. By now, we had tried nearly all the food in Colibri. I had been considering moving to another city in search of new flavors.
The royal capital had been one of our top choices. With plenty of money saved up, we had already been discussing the idea of going on a gourmet tour there.
“Alright, Lilia. Guild Master, we’ll accept the request.”
“Oh, great! That’s a big help. A direct request boosts the Adventurers’ Guild’s reputation, too. No one ever turns those down.”
Fran-san quickly handled the paperwork. The meeting point was the Sancho estate in the commercial city of Everan. We had plenty of time before departure. So we could prepare thoroughly. As soon as I received the request form, we began getting ready.
I also informed the innkeeper at the Silver Crescent Moon Inn that we’d be leaving. As this trip would take several days.
“I see. That’s a shame… Fel-san, Lilia-chan, you two were quiet guests and kept your room clean. I was hoping you’d stay longer. But I suppose it can’t be helped. Thank you for staying with us.”
“Thank you as well for taking care of us all this time.”
The reason our room seemed quiet was because I had been using the Silent Room spell. In reality, we were quite lively inside. Since no one had noticed, I guess the spell had worked perfectly.
After leaving the inn, we set out for Everan. Last time we visited, we hadn’t been able to explore much. This time, we planned to arrive early and fully enjoy the city.
Come to think of it, we’d be traveling to the royal capital by ship. That was something to look forward to.
“Lilia, have you ever been on a ship before?”
“Nope. If I need to travel, it’s faster to just fly.”
“Fair point. So that means this will be the first time for both of us.”
“That’s right! Thinking about it that way, I’m getting excited!”
As we rode in a shared carriage toward Everan, I found myself daydreaming about the ship. I had read about them in books. But I couldn’t quite picture what it would be like. People said ships swayed a lot, and that you could get seasick… I really hoped this journey would be a fun one.
A few days later, we arrived in Everan without issue. The first thing to do upon arrival? Find a place to stay.
We could have stayed at Sancho’s estate. But that didn’t feel like much of a journey. Plus, I’d feel too self-conscious being in someone’s home. Since we had plenty of money, it made sense to find an inn instead.
As expected from a commercial city, Everan was filled with people eager to make money. It wasn’t long before I spotted a sign labeled “Information Center”. Apparently, you could pay for guided tours of the city.
I decided to ask them for a good inn recommendation. At the very least, I wanted a nice place to sleep at night.
