Episode 57: A New Request 

Guild Master Raffaello examined the massive magic stone over and over again after hearing our report. Eventually, he let out a deep sigh and reached a conclusion. 

“As Lilia said, there is no doubt that this is a Fire Turtle’s magic stone, but in an enlarged form. The shape and the crystallization pattern of the stone are exactly the same.” 

He let out another heavy sigh and shook his head from side to side. 

“I have never heard of monsters growing to such enormous sizes. And the elves do not possess any technology capable of making this happen.” 

Raffaello-san spoke with absolute certainty. Given his age and experience among the elves, it was unlikely that he was mistaken. 

“So, does that mean something is happening beyond our knowledge?” 

“That remains unclear. However, I will personally report this matter to the kingdom. If my guess is correct, the upper echelons of the kingdom will soon be in turmoil. I suspect we may need your help again when the time comes. If that happens, I hope we can count on you.” 

Raffaello-san bowed deeply. 

At that moment, Jill suddenly jumped to his feet. His uncharacteristic reaction made me widen my eyes in surprise. Jill never panicked like this. 

“Guild Master, please don’t do that! There’s no need for someone like you to bow to us adventurers!” 

“Exactly! You should just say, ‘I’ll leave the rest to you’ like you always do!” 

Elise waved her hands frantically. It seemed she was flustered by the Guild Master’s unexpected action. Maybe Raffaello-san owed them a great debt or something. 

We decided to leave the magic stone with the Guild Master for research. If the kingdom officially decided to purchase it, the payment would be given to us as our reward. 

“Well then, we’ll be taking our leave.” 

“Thank you for taking the time to report this. If we learn anything new, we will share the information with you as well.” 

“Much appreciated. I hope this is just a baseless concern…” 

“I hope so too.”

For the next few days, we took a well-earned break. Humans shouldn’t work all the time. If you earn a good amount of money, you should take a proper rest as well. 

Lilia and I spent our time searching for delicious food in the royal capital. As expected of the capital, new dishes appeared every day. There was no way we could try them all. That would have to wait until our next break. 

After getting plenty of rest, we finally returned to the Adventurers’ Guild. Since no urgent requests had been sent directly to the inn where we were staying, we knew there were no emergencies. 

“Ardan, how do you decide which requests to take?” 

“Hmm… I go with my intuition. Somehow, I just know which requests are worth taking.” 

“Really~?” 

So he chooses requests based on a gut feeling? And he says it so confidently. Jill and Elise didn’t even bother to check the request board. Maybe they just found it too troublesome. 

“Oh, this one looks good. I’ve got a good feeling about it.” 

“A ruin investigation? That sounds so boring!” 

Lilia peeked over Ardan’s shoulder and immediately dismissed it. Ardan smiled wryly. Lilia preferred jobs where she could move her body—meaning she liked subjugation requests. Plus, defeating monsters meant selling their magic stones for extra money. 

“Why is this ruin investigation classified as a Platinum Rank adventurer request?” 

“Hmm, I see. It’s because it’s in the Dalomoa Canyon. That place is said to be swarming with Golems.” 

“Golems, huh? Yeah, that would be a tough opponent. So that’s why it’s a request for Platinum Rank adventurers.” 

Golems had high durability. And some were resistant to magic. A single Golem could be handled by a Gold Rank adventurer. But dealing with multiple Golems would be a challenge. 

Each Golem contained a core. It was similar to the nucleus found in Slimes. Destroying this core was the only way to completely defeat a Golem. 

Usually, finding the core while fighting was a tedious process. However, thanks to our ability to use Analyze, things were different for us. After all, we could locate the core instantly. Because of that, Golems weren’t that troublesome for us.

“Analyze can even do that? This really is an overpowered spell.” 

“Then we can take them down easily. Alright, it’s Golem hunting time!” 

Ardan brought the request he found to the others. No one objected. It seemed they had a great deal of trust in his instincts. Did Ardan have some kind of special ability? 

When we took the request form to the reception counter, the receptionist provided us with more details. Apparently, the request was to investigate an ancient ruin located in the Dalomoa Canyon. 

It had long been known that an ancient ruin existed somewhere in the Dalomoa Canyon. However, its exact location had remained a mystery. 

Despite this, numerous search teams had been dispatched over the years in hopes of discovering valuable artifacts from the ruins. But due to repeated Golem attacks, they had achieved no success. 

However, just recently, a researcher who had been deciphering ancient texts managed to pinpoint the location of the ruins deep within Dalomoa Canyon. The discovery was immediately reported to the kingdom. 

But there was a problem—the location was deep within the canyon. It made it difficult to send a large-scale expedition. 

Wanting to investigate the ruins as soon as possible, the kingdom issued this request. 

“So the client is the kingdom? In that case, they could have hired government-approved adventurers from the Mithril or Orichalcum Rank.” 

“It seems they refused the request.” 

“Why?” 

We exchanged puzzled glances. The receptionist gave a wry smile. 

That didn’t make sense. If the kingdom requested it, adventurers shouldn’t be able to refuse. Unless… they didn’t refuse but actually failed? That seemed plausible. If they had failed, the kingdom might not want to make it public to protect their reputation. That thought left me with an uneasy feeling. 

“Most likely, they judged that a small team wouldn’t be able to break through a swarm of ‘immortal’ Golems.” 

“‘Immortal,’ you say? But if you destroy their core, they go down.” 

Jill turned to us, as if asking for confirmation. We nodded in agreement. Seeing this, the receptionist let out a deeper wry smile. 

“That may be true. But finding and destroying the core is the hard part, isn’t it? If you’re facing multiple Golems at once, you might not be able to defeat them fast enough. But… it seems that doesn’t apply to you all.” 

“Well, yeah. We have three excellent magic users in our party.” 

Ardan glanced at me, Lilia, and Elise. The receptionist then nodded in understanding. 

“So, do you accept this request?” 

“Of course. The reward is quite generous, after all. Plus, the researcher seems confident about the location—so if we go, we’re bound to find something.” 

“The location is classified. So please handle the information with care.” 

The receptionist efficiently processed the request. Finally, Ardan signed the documents, officially accepting the ruin investigation. 

“The deadline is three months. That’s plenty of time, so make sure you’re well-prepared before heading out.” 

Three months, huh? That was one of the longest deadlines we’d ever had for a request. It must mean they wanted a thorough investigation. 

After receiving the request form, we returned to our inn to discuss our plan. 

“We don’t have transportation to Dalomoa Canyon. Even from the nearest town, it would take two days on foot. We’ll need to stay there for a while.” 

“Then we’ll need Fel to set up a base for us.” 

“Yeah. In that sense, we really are the perfect team for this request.” 

That was true. Compared to other adventurers, we could set up a much stronger base. Since we’d be staying in a remote area for an extended period, our party was well-suited for the job. 

“We should also stock up on food. But even if we run out, we can just fly back to town. So it’s not a big problem.” 

“Speaking of flying… Fel, Lilia, when we arrive, could you fly over the area and map out the route to our destination?” 

“Got it. With Auto-Mapping, it won’t take long.” 

“I’ll also use Analyze to check what’s beneath the ground.” 

We immediately agreed to Ardan’s suggestion. Just as Elise had said, this request seemed to be a perfect fit for us. Ardan’s instincts were the real deal. No wonder Jill and Elise followed him without question. I had to agree with them. 

“You guys really can do anything, huh?” 

Elise gave us a skeptical look. Well… I wasn’t sure how to respond to that.
