The Unaware Harem Adventure Tale of the Strongest Enchanter ~~I Don’t Know My Companions’ Faces or Identities, but I’m Pretty Sure They’re All Guys~~ - 10. Backflow Ruins (2)

- Backflow Ruins (2)
The village near the ruins was a typical small farming village.
On the main road of the village, which had no cobblestones laid down, villagers casually led cows.
A peaceful and nice place. After retiring from adventuring, I’d like to spend my remaining years quietly in a place like this.
The only inn in the village was small and simply built.
It’s just a place to sleep and wake up, after all. I don’t ask for luxury.
All I care about is whether they serve good food.
“Welcome.”
“We’re ‘Unknown.’ There should be a reservation from the guild.”
“I’ll check, so please wait a moment.”
We checked in at the counter.
The woman said,
“We’ve confirmed the reservation under Unknown. Here is your key.”
She handed us just one key.
One room, huh…
I glanced at Felice.
He cleared his throat and spoke to the woman.
“Could we possibly get separate rooms?”
“I’m very sorry. This is a very small inn. So we ask all guests to share rooms as much as possible.”
“I—I see. If that’s the case, it can’t be helped.”
Seeing me grinning, he responded slightly annoyed,
“What is it?”
“We’re both guys. So sharing a room to sleep shouldn’t be a big deal.”
“…I just want to relax at least when I sleep.”
The usual reply.
It’s always like this when I stay at inns with him.
He probably doesn’t want his face to be seen. But from my perspective, it just feels like he’s putting distance between us. And it doesn’t feel great.
Maybe he has some terrible burn marks or something he doesn’t want anyone to see?
“We’re back~”
“That was awful.”
“So, tired.”
It was the rookie girls arriving at the inn.
For some reason, they looked totally worn out and exhausted.
I wonder if they managed to slay the target Devil Bat?
“Good work. How was the job? Were you able to defeat it?”
“Listen to this, Felice-saaan!”
The swordsman girl’s eyes were brimming with tears. She hugged Felice.
With a smile, he gently patted her like a big brother comforting his little sister.
The mage girl came over to explain the situation.
“The truth is, we let it escape just before we had it.”
“Oh, so you did find it.”
“Yes, but it moved much faster than we expected. And we kept chasing it without landing a proper hit. In the end, we ran out of energy and everyone collapsed.”
“Not even magic could hit it, huh.”
If they’d fought properly, the rookies would’ve won easily.
But monsters like Devil Bats don’t let you do that. Since they have high evasion.
If they’d asked me beforehand, I could’ve advised them to prepare a net.
But getting one in a small village like this is probably hard.
To deal with flying monsters, you usually use magic or a bow.
Unfortunately, none of the rookies can use a bow.
Only the mage girl could bring it down to the ground.
To defeat it, they’d need at least a couple more steps.
As I was thinking, the thief girl tugged on my sleeve.
“How about you guys?”
“Can’t say yet. We just scouted today. But from what I saw, it looks pretty tough.”
“Anything we can help with??”
Seeing the thief girl looking up at me seriously made me happy.
I patted her head lightly and said,
“Thanks.”
“For now, the two of us plan to handle it. If it gets too hard, we might ask for your help.”
“Okay. Bell, you’re on the same page, right?”
“Yes. Just say the word. We’ll do our best for you two.”
Just then, the woman from earlier returned.
Everyone turned their gaze toward her.
“Dinner is ready. Please enjoy the inn’s proud home-cooked meals.”
“Yay! Felice, let’s go!”
“Fufu, Akane-chan, you’re always so energetic.”
Felice was pulled by the swordsman girl toward the dining room.
We followed after them to have dinner.
◇
I lay on the bed and stared up at the ceiling.
My stomach was full. Dinner was absolutely satisfying—no complaints at all.
“So, why is everyone gathered in this room?”
“Ehehe.”
“F-for some advice!”
“No real reason?”
The rookies were occupying Felice’s bed.
And Felice himself was sitting on my bed. He was deep in thought.
No doubt thinking about how to explore those ruins.
He’s serious to a fault.
“Even if you say advice, I don’t have much to teach. I can’t guarantee you’ll be able to slay it either.”
“Still, even a hint might help.”
“Yeah, we don’t have enough experience to come up with good ideas on our own.”
The mage girl and the swordsman girl sat on the edge of the bed. Their plump thighs were facing my way.
And beyond that, I could see their underwear……
Yeah, this gives me motivation for tomorrow.
“Tell us the Devil Bat’s weakness.”
Leaning on the mage girl, the thief girl looked at me with her usual half-lidded eyes.
Maybe because it was after dinner, she looked sleepier than usual.
Felice had been silent. He finally spoke.
“Sound. Devil Bats apparently emit sounds humans can’t hear to avoid obstacles. Naturally, they need excellent hearing to pick up those sounds. I’ve heard of seasoned adventurers using loud noises to confuse and hunt them.”
“Loud noises! Hey, couldn’t we use that!?”
“I’m sorry. I don’t know any magic that makes sound…”
“I see. No, I’m the one who should apologize.”
The swordsman girl looked apologetically at the downcast mage girl.
Even if she’s a talented mage, she’s still a rookie.
She doesn’t have enough spells to respond perfectly.
Especially sound-generating magic—that kind of trivial stuff is low priority and few people learn it.
Sound, huh. Oh, that might work.
“Hey, can you use the Simple Barrier spell?”
“Yes, only for a short time. But the area is small.”
“One more thing. Do you have an explosive attack spell?”
“I can use *Ignition Burst*.”
“You can use a mid-tier spell at your age? Man, you’re really talented.”
“Please don’t praise me. It’s embarrassing.”
The mage girl blushed and shrank from embarrassment.
A Simple Barrier is exactly what the name suggests—a simplified version of Barrier magic.
It creates a wall that blocks physical and magical attacks.
The strength and duration aren’t great. But it allows selected people or objects to pass through. It makes it a very convenient spell despite its simplicity.
Ignition Burst is an explosive attack spell—technically, it belongs to the fire element.
It’s not easy to learn. So for a rookie to use it is honestly amazing.
Normally, adventurers don’t start using it until they’re mid-tier.
“I see! Trap it with the barrier and knock it out with the explosion!”
“You figured that out yourself?”
“D-don’t mock me. I can think at least that much! I’m the leader, you know.”
Well, thanks to the swordsman girl’s explanation, I no longer needed to explain in detail.
The other two also began seriously considering this strategy.
“But it’s a flying bat. How do we trap it in the barrier?”
“Yeah. That’s hard.”
“That’s where your skill comes in. If I told you everything, you wouldn’t grow. I’m just giving you a hint. Right, Felice?”
“Indeed. If you give it your all and still can’t do it, we’ll help then.”
The swordsman girl stood up from the bed and happily pulled the other two by the arms.
“Let’s go to our room and plan!”
The mage and thief girls obediently followed her to the door.
“Lux-san, Felice-san, thank you. We’ll definitely succeed on this quest.”
“Yeah.”
“Good luck.”
With that, the three left.
“We’re alone now.”
“!?”
Well then, time to get some sleep for tomorrow.
Felice stiffened up for some reason.
Could he be worried I’ll tear off his mask while he’s asleep?
“Don’t worry. Honestly, I’d be bored looking at a guy’s face. I’m going to sleep.”
“I’ll turn off the light. Please don’t turn around no matter what.”
“Yeah yeah, go ahead.”
In the now-dark room, Felice rustled as he took off his gear.
Ah, so he’s the type who can’t sleep unless he’s undressed?
I see. So when he said he wanted to sleep alone, that’s what he meant.
Well, I’m not interested in a naked guy. So strip away all you like.
That said, I am curious about his face.
What kind of face does he have? Is he good-looking?
“…Are you asleep yet?”
I heard a voice like that.
But I was already sinking into drowsiness.
Not to brag, but I fall asleep fast.
*Snore.*
