The Umbrella territory is located in the east.
It is rich in water resources. In the central city, waterways are spread throughout. And small boats are used as a means of transportation.
There are also many dungeons in the surrounding area. The city is known not only for sightseeing but also as a gathering place for adventurers.
It is thriving and called the “Water City.”
As soon as we arrived, the sword girl jumped off the carriage.
The place she was heading toward was the waterway.
“Lots of boats! Hey, let’s ride one of those!”
“First, the inn. We can’t go sightseeing without deciding where to stay.”
“Bell’s opinion is valid. Akane is too excited.”
“Eh~? You don’t feel excited seeing that? You two are so mature.”
“”Akane is just too childish.””
The newbie girls continue chatting cheerfully, with the small boats coming and going along the waterway in the background.
Looks like it’s their first time in Umbrella. So it’s not surprising that they’re so excited.
Even I was thrilled the first time I came here. I was in awe seeing the clean water flowing in the canals and the sight of the small boats passing each other without colliding.
I guess I’ve gotten older too.
“O-ohhh.”
There was another guy moved by the scenery.
Zain.
They’re supposed to have visited a few times. But they’re surprised like this every time.
Their appearance is like that, but they’re really pure.
Glancing around the area, it felt like there were fewer people than last time.
And I got the impression that there were more adventurers.
Curious, I spoke to the newbie girls.
“I forgot to ask, but what’s your subjugation target?”
“Slimes. Don’t you know, Lux-san? Right now, Umbrella is overflowing with Slimes. I also heard that even undead are being seen more often.”
“Slimes… where are they coming from?”
“According to the request sheet, from the underground waterways.”
That place is indeed suitable for Slime spawning.
The central city of Umbrella is built on top of ruins.
Right beneath us is a maze-like, complex underground waterway.
There are still many areas no one knows about. And it continues to be in exploration.
Slimes like humid places.
It’s not strange if they’re multiplying in large numbers without anyone noticing.
“Sorry, but could you book a room for us too? We have to go see the client now.”
“It’s fine. But isn’t it kind of unfair if it’s free, Lux-senpai?”
“Can’t be helped. I’ll treat you to dinner. I’m counting on you.”
“Okaay~”
The sword girl grinned. And I frowned.
In front of Felice, she acts like a quiet borrowed cat. But with me she’s oddly overly familiar and casual.
If you keep acting cocky, I’ll grope those soft-looking b00bs. Tch.
I called out to Zain, who was still staring at the scenery.
“Let’s go, Zain.”
“W-work?”
“Yeah. We’re going to meet the client who nominated Unknown.”
“Bl00d?”
“No healing yet.”
I turned on my heel and parted ways with the newbie girls.
◇
The building near the center of town is the Umbrella’s guild.
The client who made the nomination request is a person named Avril.
We were told in advance to wait in front of the guild reception.
Zain and I stepped into the guild.
Sharp stares all turned toward us at once.
Adventurers are territorial and sensitive to outsiders.
In places like this, the usual types appear—
“Hey, I don’t recognize your faces. First time in Umbrella? Then hire us as your guides. We’ll take you anywhere you want. Of course, we’ll take a fee.”
Men with bad looks surrounded Zain and me.
One particularly big guy looked down at me, grinning.
“That’s kind of you. Umbrella is big and complex, easy to get lost. So, how much?”
“Two gold coins for four of us. Or twenty silver coins, that works too.”
“One guide should be enough. That price seems way off.”
“Hey, hey, you calling us rip-offs?”
“It *is* a rip-off.”
“Hah?”
Just pointing it out made the men glare sharply and intimidate us.
The other adventurers just watched and didn’t help.
In fact, they looked like they were enjoying it.
“You didn’t understand our generous offer for a cheap guide? If you don’t want to get hurt, just hire us quietly.”
“Enough already. I don’t have time to deal with you guys.”
“Cocky bastard. We’ll show you who you’re picking a fight with, damn outsider!”
Right after, *thud*. A heavy sound echoed through the guild.
The man who was barking earlier had his upper body embedded in the ceiling. His lower half was dangling.
Zain held their pose with their right leg raised.
Only then did people realize they had kicked him.
Zain quietly lowered their foot and leaned forward.
“Bl00d! Blooooood!!”
“They mean they want to heal. If we stand still, he won’t recover.”
The men shrank back at Zain’s bizarre behavior.
Some adventurers were clearly shocked by their kick.
Zain pulled down the dangling man and used holy magic to heal him.
Though healed, he remained unconscious.
“Bl00d, bl00d!”
“Just be satisfied with that. There aren’t many injured peo—wait, looking closely, there are quite a few.”
In the guild, there were several guys with bandages here and there.
Trembling with joy, Zain dashed toward them.
As screams echoed inside the building, I spoke to the female staff at the reception.
“We’re ‘Unknown’. We accepted a nomination request. I want to meet the client, Avril.”
“Unknown-sama. We have received the details from Avril-sama.”
“Can’t talk directly?”
“We were only asked to hand over the details and reward. We don’t know where Avril-sama is. Of course, we’ll pay the reward once the request is completed. No worries there.”
After the conversation, I received the documents.
The guild began to stir.
Well, it had already been noisy because of Zain.
They were still catching injured people and healing them.
“‘Unknown’—isn’t that the S-rank party from Avantale?”
“No wonder they’re strong. Took down B-rank Amsan in one blow.”
“Isn’t that black guy the healer Zain? Whoa, cool.”
“Did anyone see that kick earlier? That’s not a healer’s kick.”
Conversations flew around everywhere.
Looks like those guys earlier were B-rank.
They looked weak. So I thought they were D or E.
But even if it were A or S, I wonder if anyone in this country could withstand Zain’s kick.
After a while, Zain came back.
Apparently satisfied after healing to their heart’s content, they looked quite refreshed.
As the two of us headed to the exit, a voice muttered from behind.
“Unknown… what monsters.”
