The third person entered the room.
It was a giant in full-face, full-body armor.
Name: [Grannaughts Heidern]
The third member to join.
Position: Frontline. Always does an excellent job as both tank and attacker.
Weapon: Axe. Amazingly, dual-wielding. Casually swings around ridiculously heavy weapons with one hand. It’s the kind of manly fighting style I admire the most.
However, as you can see, his (?) race and gender are also completely unknown.
*Fsshhhhhhhhhh.* Steam erupts from Grannaughts’ body.
Occasionally, hot air is released from holes in the armor like this. What are they really? Sometimes their eyes even glow.
“CAN I SIT?”
“Go ahead, go ahead.”
*Thud.* Just by sitting down, Grannaughts makes the special sofa creak.
Their voice is really mysterious.
Neither masculine nor feminine. And calling it androgynous feels off too.
If I had to say, it’s a hard, slightly muffled voice. It was like it’s being projected through something.
Sometimes you can also hear weird sounds like “gok,” “gak,” or “zaza” mixed in.
I stare at the part where their dark eyes should be.
“How’s everything? Getting along with the others?”
“NO PROBLEM.”
“Okay then. So, any worries? Even just a request is fine.”
“I WANT BOOKS.”
“I thought we bought a bunch the other day.”
They spread their hands and shrug, as if to say, “I already read them all and I’m bored.”
By the way, reading is their hobby.
They also regularly buy and drink large barrels of alcohol. So my impression is that they’re an intellectual drinker type.
Surprisingly light on their feet, and I often spot them in town.
Because of their huge body, they’re quite popular. And kids are always clinging around Grannaughts.
“I’ll get some new books then. Anything else?”
“I WANT MORE EXCITING ADVENTURES.”
Exciting—so, jobs where they can go wild.
There haven’t been any full-party-required jobs lately. So maybe I’ll look for solo requests. Grannaughts would come back unscathed no matter where they went.
“Lastly, aren’t you ever inconvenienced by always wearing that full-body armor?”
“NOT AT ALL.”
“Oh, I see.”
Grannaughts leaves the room without noticing my concerns.
Seriously? That state isn’t inconvenient at all?
Maybe Grannaughts is actually a Golem.
What I think is armor is actually their body itself, and they’re hollow inside.
I’m getting even more curious.
◇
There was a knock at the door. And finally, the fourth person entered.
Name: [Silk Sylphid]
Only one description: “a white fluffball.”
My guess is that their entire body is covered in white hair.
Not just long, but incredibly thick too—I’ve never even seen hands or feet.
Since they’re a magician, sometimes a staff peeks out from the fur. But even then, it’s pitch black and impossible to make out. If you try to peer in too deeply, it feels like an endless darkness would reach out to grab you, so I end up averting my eyes. Terrifying.
“I heard we’re having an interview.”
“Yeah, we are. Oh, want some tea? I’ll go make some.”
“Unnecessary.”
I tried to be considerate by offering tea. But Silk shook their head side to side.
Then they sat down on the sofa.
Still a fluffball.
Kinda reminds me of a fluffy-haired dog.
I wonder what’s inside. It’s too mysterious.
Silk was the last member to join.
Unlike Zain or Grannaughts, they speak fluently and have strong communication skills.
They’re often considerate. And after Felice, they’re the most aware of party unity.
Their magic skills are off the charts—honestly, I can’t even tell how strong.
I’ve seen just how amazing it is up close. But the level is so high I can’t even grasp where they stand.
On the other hand, because of their creature-like silhouette, they’re popular with kids.
Mothers, however, try to keep their children away because of how they look.
They’re the only member of the party with a clear goal.
Silk is chasing the ancient ruins known as the “Sky Castle”.
The Sky Castle is a mysterious ruin that constantly floats in the sky.
According to common theory, it was created by a demon god who once ruled the continent. It is said to be the most difficult dungeon ever.
But since it’s always flying and moving, very few people have ever gotten inside.
And since no one has ever returned, it’s considered one of the five unexplored dungeons.
Why does Silk aim for the Sky Castle? I still haven’t been told.
“Got anything troubling you or any worries?”
“There’s this new thing called shampoo & rinse. I want it.”
“Why?”
“I heard it gives shine when used for washing. Silk values hair.”
O-oh, I see.
But now that you mention it, yeah, it’s kinda frizzy.
Felice asked for it too. So buying it isn’t a problem.
“I’ll get it for you. Anything else?”
“I want to go to ruins where ancient magic was used. Entry is forbidden, so you need a request to get in.”
“Okay. I’ll let the guild know.”
“Thank you.”
Somehow, Silk seems a little fluffier.
They’re probably happy. Even their head fluff is bouncing a bit.
Definitely a mysterious creature. I really want to know what’s under that fur.
“Lastly, don’t you cut your hair?”
“Hair is precious. It keeps me warm.”
Ah, so you get cold easily.
I see. Huh… yeah, okay.
The white fluffball left the room.
—
“I tried holding interviews. But I got nowhere. How am I supposed to get anyone to open up about their problems?”
I hold my head in my hands alone.
Our party is way too full of weirdos.
Nothing ever goes the way I expect.
No wonder people out there call us the ‘oddball crew’.
An S-rank party that’s not supported by anyone except for a few obsessed fans.
That’s us, the ‘Unknown’.
Still, it’s not something I can just ignore.
It’s a little late. But the fact that I, the leader, don’t know anything is not great.
Yeah, you know, I used to think that if I were strong, nothing else would matter.
At the beginning, we really had no members. I was desperate.
So I hired everyone who came. And this is the result.
“Shouldn’t I have an interview too?”
“Nah, it’s fine. I already talked to everyone I wanted to.”
“I see. Then…”
“Huh?”
I whip around suddenly.
I thought I heard a voice, but there’s no one behind me.
Just my imagination? Am I tired? I should rest today.
Our party has five members. There shouldn’t be a sixth.
The door knocks, and Felice enters.
As always, an apron is worn over his armor.
“Dinner’s ready. You guys should come too.”
“Perfect timing, I was just getting hungry. But wait—what do you mean by *you guys*?”
“?”
Ignoring Felice’s confused face, I head to the dining hall.
Unaware that someone else is following behind me.
