Clarissa was headed to the church. She was carrying a bucket.
Just a while ago, she had been at the communal laundry area. She washed the children’s clothes and sheets.
A junior sister was still at the laundry area. Clarissa had returned a bit earlier in order to welcome the believers coming to the church.
What suddenly came to mind was the children’s smiles from last night.
The priest had voluntarily sold off his magical tools and used that money to prepare a feast for the children. Clarissa was watching the children get excited over a whole roasted chicken. She felt overwhelmingly happy. On the other hand, the priest had been serving the meat with tears in his eyes.
She placed her hand on the gate. She then tried to enter from the back of the church.
(This sound is… a call from the confessional. I have to hurry back—)
But her hand stopped.
Hearing the persistently ringing bell, she furrowed her brows deeply.
(Such a rough way to call… Is it that person again?)
Clarissa pulled her hand away from the gate.
Having been a sister for many years, she could now tell who it was by the sound of the bell. If it happens two or three times, one remembers whether they want to or not.
(If I just pretend I didn’t hear it…)
However, the sound of the bell showed no signs of stopping. And it gradually got more intense.
Unable to ignore the overly persistent call, Clarissa put her hand on the gate again and dashed into the church.
*Bang.*
“You’re late, Sister. I’ve been calling so much.”
“I’m sorry. I kept you waiting.”
Still smiling, Clarissa clenched her fist tightly.
She wanted to open the little window and punch the man on the other side of the wall in the face. While feeling that urge, she tried to keep her heart as calm as a still sea.
“By the way, I heard. You were quite the hero in Umbrella, weren’t you? Defeated a demon and saved the town, or something. I’m sure the Goddess is very pleased with such a noble deed.”
“Do you think the Goddess will give me a sexy reward?”
“If you’re picking a fight with the church, I’ll accept it.”
The man continued talking as if he didn’t care.
“Zain’s true identity was an angel. And a woman, too.”
(Note: C37: “I plan to promote Zain as a being like an angel.” Probaby because of this? Since I remember Zain being a demon. Idk.)
“To think that appearance belonged to an angel… You really can’t judge someone by how they look. I haven’t seen her female form yet. But from what I’ve heard from eyewitnesses, she’s supposedly an incredible beauty.”
“That’s right. So I’ve had to be really careful. You know, we all thought she was a guy for so long. So things we did casually turned out to be problematic after all. And even if she’s fine with it, it still causes trouble for us.”
“You’re surprisingly decent.”
“I used to change clothes right in front of her.”
“Guards! Where are the guards!”
“Calm down. I didn’t show everything.”
The man cleared his throat with a *ahem.*
Clarissa folded her arms and seriously considered, “If it wasn’t everything, then how much *was* shown?” And then, just a little, she got excited at the image of a man unknowingly showing his naked body in front of a beautiful woman. She didn’t say it out loud. But it was quite a stimulating situation.
“Next, I’m thinking of drawing out some worries from Grannaughts.”
“May I ask the reason?”
“I’ve been going in order of when they joined. And I’ve been wanting to get closer to Grannaughts as a true friend. I’m sure inside that armor is a muscle-bound, scary-faced, reliable man.”
Clarissa stood up and opened the upper small window.
She squinted and stared closely at the man on the other side of the wall.
Then, with a sigh, she closed the small window.
“What was that just now?”
“Don’t mind it. I was just exasperated.”
“Now I’m even more curious.”
The man said, “I’ll come again.” And he left the confessional.
