The Unmarried Omega Falls into Being a Wife - Chapter 1
“Brother, I like you.”
“Brother, I like you.”
“Can I marry you, brother?”
A blue haired youth spread his arms, proclaiming his love to the wind.
His flamboyant hair color reflected the glint of the lip ring on his mouth. He took Lin Xunye’s hand and rubbed against it affectionately.
Like he had done countless times before, the youth naturally held Lin Xunye’s hand and ran toward a distant cottage. Among the lavender fields, that unnaturally bright shade of blue remained etched in Lin Xunye’s mind.
“No matter where you go, you’ll always be my bride.”
The howling wind wrapped around the two of them. After speaking, the youth suddenly leaned in and kissed Lin Xunye on the lips. Yet just before Lin Xunye could reach out to touch him, the boy pulled away.
The purple lavender fields rapidly receded from Lin Xunye’s vision, and the boy vanished. Everything turned into a bluish-purple orb of light that floated off into the distance.
The wind roared. Everything in the dream vanished.
Raindrops, driven by fierce winds, pounded against the window.
The man in bed awoke, clearly fatigued, with a hint of irritation on his face.
He was a staunch anti-marriage advocate, yet he kept dreaming of someone confessing to him and even proposing marriage. It was practically a horror film.
He got out of bed barefoot and walked to the bathroom.
He didn’t turn on the light and instead washed his face in the dark.
Water dripped down the soft contours of his face, falling onto the back of his hand. Unable to find a towel, Lin Xunye clicked his tongue and turned on the light with a snap.
The overhead light illuminated the room with a warm yellow glow, wrapping around Lin Xunye and softening the vividness of his red hair.
He squinted and, amid the riot of colors, accurately located a pure white towel.
After drying his face, Lin Xunye neatly folded the towel and put it back. He stretched lazily, but paused when he caught sight of the faint mark on the back of his neck in the mirror.
A month ago, after receiving notice from the Lin family about his arranged marriage with a comatose Alpha, Lin Xunye, feeling vexed, decided to flee to New Zealand to escape their pestering.
He was, after all, against marriage. Marry?
What a joke. They could dream of tying him down with a wedding!
He didn’t join a tour group or go with like-minded travelers, instead following travel guides he found on Xiaomoushu by himself.
Any strangers who approached him along the way were brushed off with a vague “I’m a Beta.”
When that didn’t work, he’d coldly reply, “I don’t believe in marriage.”
Most people were intimidated by his firm attitude. After all, a hard-to-please Beta, no matter how attractive, wasn’t worth the trouble.
At a local bar, he ordered a drink listed on Xiaomoushu as a must try New Zealand specialty: a shot of Stroh 80 rum. Oddly enough, it was actually Austrian in origin.
One shot later, everything went black. He passed out.
In a daze, he caught a strong whiff of citrus so strong he felt like he’d fallen into a pile of oranges. Thousands of orange sprites danced around him. Some lay on him, whispering about how they wanted whipped cream.
Ridiculous. Who walks around with whipped cream on hand?
Yet strangely, Lin Xunye did smell whipped cream his own scent.
As he gradually regained consciousness, the orange sprites disappeared, replaced by a flood of freshly squeezed orange juice.
Then, he completely passed out again.
When he next woke, he was sore all over and found himself lying beside a stranger most likely an Alpha.
It was the first time in his life he’d shared a bed with someone. Shocked, he threw on his clothes and bolted, not even stopping to swear.
Back home, he not only experienced occasional soreness in a certain spot, but also developed a strange condition every time he slept, he dreamt vividly.
And these dreams were weirdly detailed, like they were in ultra-HD VIP quality. Yet upon waking, all he could remember was the boy’s confession.
Today marked his tenth dream.
He swore, if it happened again, the moment the dream-boy opened his mouth to confess, he’d slap him twice, pin him to the ground, beat him up, and then listen to his apology.
His imagination ran too wild. Lin Xunye shrank his neck uncomfortably, bracing against the sink for three minutes before he could shake the strange feeling.
Once he’d recovered, Lin Xunye studied the corner of his mouth in the mirror.
The man in the mirror had striking red hair, arguably more flamboyant than the blue-haired boy in his dreams. His lip piercing was new, still a bit swollen. Under the light, the three irregular earrings in his left ear glinted with a rainbow sheen.
He touched the back of his neck, then opened a drawer and took out his earring box.
Every earring inside was colorful no plain designs. The shapes were wild, and some even had half-meter-long tassels dangling.
He rested his chin on his hand and thought for a bit before pulling out five custom-made earrings.
From left to right, they spelled out a phrase: “I. Just. Won’t. Get. Married.”
He had five piercings: three on the left, two on the right. Once they were on, he grabbed his suitcase and left the apartment, taking a cab back to the Lin family estate.
On the way, Lin Xunye received a call.
The number had no label, but it was all too familiar.
He rubbed his temples and answered.
On the other end, a woman practically shouted: “Lin Xunye! Are you asking for a beating?! How dare you refuse such a great marriage! I’m telling you if you don’t come home today, don’t ever come back!”
Even without speakerphone, the driver heard everything.
The upbeat DJ music cut off instantly. The driver sneaked a glance at Lin Xunye but was met with a cold, sharp gaze that felt like a guillotine to the back of his neck.
He immediately turned his eyes back to the road.
A minute at the traffic light felt like an eternity.
Once the car moved again, Lin Xunye stayed silent he was waiting for the woman on the other end to exhaust herself.
It didn’t take long.
A few seconds later, she switched tactics, wailing dramatically: “Xunye, I’m your mother! I suffered so much to give birth to you. You should be more understanding!”
Her tone softened, tears now in her voice. “This marriage with the Gu family was arranged long ago. If you don’t go through with it, what will I do? I’ll be mocked and ridiculed…”
Once she’d exhausted herself again, Lin Xunye finally responded: “Isn’t the Gu guy in a coma? You just want me to marry him for ‘luck’, right?”
“So what if he’s in a coma? As long as you marry him, you’ll be Madam Gu how prestigious! I’m counting on this money to get us through some tough times. Be a good son! You’re my child!”
Her words were ice cold needles. Even though Lin Xunye had long known she was like this, his chest still ached.
“Isn’t Lin Youjia your child too?” he asked.
“He’s your older brother he’s an Alpha!”
Those words he’d heard them for 18 years.
Even after moving abroad, she still sent him messages every year that stabbed like knives.
Alpha, Alpha, Alpha.
Were Alphas really that great?
Heh…
“Driver, turn around,” Lin Xunye hung up, exhausted, leaning back into the seat.
The driver didn’t speak, just sped back to where they started.
As he got out, the driver called to him: “Young man, don’t worry about whether you’re Alpha or Omega. You are the best, okay?”
Lin Xunye paused. His hand was sweaty on the door handle. Like a silent tear, the words lingered in his chest.
He nodded in thanks, then took his suitcase from the trunk.
The cab drove off.
He sat on his suitcase, silent for a long while.
How ironic.
The words he’d longed to hear… came from a stranger’s mouth.
Though to be fair, this wasn’t the first time he’d heard something like it.
A month ago, just before passing out, someone had said to him:
“You don’t need to pretend to be a Beta. You’re perfect just the way you are. I really like you.”
He couldn’t remember the rest.
But if he could remember that guy’s face, he’d beat him twice for sure.
Daring to take advantage of him? He’d make sure he never came back for round two.
Having ditched the Lin family, Lin Xunye went to a well known bar owned by a friend.
The owner was his buddy, Xu Qian charming, flashy, and dramatic. He lived for gossip, especially about a man named Gu Pei.
Lin Xunye had heard countless stories about Gu Pei.
Like how he took over negotiations and scared the other party into peeing themselves. Or how someone tried confessing to him at work, and Gu Pei kicked them out without even meeting them.
Most stories sounded absurd.
The one that stuck in Lin Xunye’s mind was how Gu Pei had once visited New Zealand and was rumored to have had a fling with a young model.
Lin Xunye considered himself attractive, but nowhere near model-like. He eventually forgot about the story.
His only other close friend was Li Ye, a stiff, old-fashioned artist who was also his business partner.
Li Ye was the opposite of Xu Qian always in brown robes, looking like a calligraphy character come to life.
By contrast, Lin Xunye was lively and popular despite being a calligraphy teacher himself.
“Xunye! Look at this!” Xu Qian’s voice rang out as soon as Lin Xunye stepped into the bar.
It was 3 p.m., and the place was quiet. A few patrons glanced at Lin Xunye, but quickly looked away when he returned their gaze his resting cold face could kill.
Xu Qian bounced like a worm, waving him over.
He hadn’t seen Lin Xunye in a while.
As Lin Xunye sat down and took a drink, he asked, “Why’re you so excited? What’s the news?”
Xu Qian practically burst with joy: “Hot gossip 100% real!”
Lin Xunye, still drained from earlier, just drank in silence.
Xu Qian leaned in: “Gu Pei you know, the guy whose mere presence turns a 10km radius into a freezer he’s getting married!”
Lin Xunye barely reacted. So what? Not like he was marrying him.
“Some Lin family or something. Hey, do you know which Lin family it is”
Lin Xunye’s hand twitched. He asked, “Gu Pei… is he in a coma?”
Xu Qian’s pupils dilated. “How did you know he fell into a coma recently?!”
He went on, “Right after coming back from New Zealand, he tripped and boom vegetative state. Sad, right?”
“But not as sad as the poor soul stuck marrying him.”
Lin Xunye: “…”
He died inside.
Xu Qian, oblivious to the shift in mood, kept talking: “So do you know who it is? If you do, you better tell me we’re bros, right?”
Lin Xunye drained his drink and stood. “Your dad’s the one marrying the coma guy.”
Xu Qian: “My dad’s nearly 50! How can he”
He stopped.
Then he remembered: Lin Xunye once joked that he was his dad.
His voice shot up: “Wait, you’re the poor bastard?!”
Too annoyed to deal with dumb friends, Lin Xunye walked out.
Outside, a light drizzle had started.
He didn’t have an umbrella and didn’t feel like walking in the rain, so he stood at the door.
He was irritated. Everything he saw made him want to kick it.
He didn’t usually smoke it was expensive. Back in his broke overseas days, he’d worked double shifts just to afford food, let alone cigarettes.
But now, he kind of wanted one.
He pulled out a cigarette he usually carried for looks, but just as he was about to light it, someone stepped beside him.
The person was close. A faint scent of information pheromones teased his nose, heating his glands.
The compatibility level must be high. The thought came unbidden.
But so what? He hated Alphas.
Still, he couldn’t help being curious about what kind of Alpha this was.
He turned his head and froze.
The man was tall nearly 2 meters. Lin Xunye was 188 cm, already tall for a Beta, let alone an omega.
His father had always criticized him for his height, saying it was unseemly for an omega.
But so what?
Omegas didn’t need Alphas to survive.
The scent grew stronger. Lin Xunye shifted away, uncomfortable. His gaze traveled upward—and his eyelid twitched.
The man had blue hair and pale blue eyes just like the one from his dream. A beauty mark on his nose added an unexpected allure.
If he were an omega, he’d be a sultry housewife type. But as an Alpha, the intense features and the beauty mark combined into a dangerously romantic… beautiful trap.
Still, he wasn’t the man from the dream he remembered the dream guy being shorter.
Coincidence, that’s all.
While Lin Xunye was sizing up Gu Pei, Gu Pei was also watching him.
Lin Xunye had seductive peach blossom eyes whoever he looked at felt seen. Many had mistaken him for an Alpha and tried to chase him. Every time, he declined with the lie that he was a Beta.
Though Lin Xunye didn’t look like a typical soft omega, Gu Pei was sure of what he was.
And their match rate was likely sky high.
The whipped cream scent lingering in the air tugged at his senses it was faint and clearly unintentional, but unmistakably his.
Unfortunately, Lin Xunye wasn’t the one he’d been dreaming of.
Since someone had come, Lin Xunye decided not to smoke.
He was just about to put the cigarette away when someone grabbed his wrist.
