The Unmarried Omega Falls into Being a Wife - Chapter 15
Xu Qian didn’t notice anything unusual about Lin Xunye and kept gossiping, “So what does Gu Pei’s pheromone smell like?”
Lin Xunye looked up at him, his eyes full of icy coldness.
Xu Qian shivered and quickly buried himself in his drink.
“No idea.” Lin Xunye, who usually liked to tease Xu Qian, wasn’t joking this time. “How would I know? I’m not a worm in his stomach.”
Xu Qian: “Didn’t you just say you went through your heat period at his place?”
Lin Xunye: “…”
He had totally shot himself in the foot.
“Anyway, I don’t know! Ask again and I’ll beat you to death!” Lin Xunye raised his fist in front of Xu Qian, who immediately shrank his neck and froze.
He believed Lin Xunye would actually hit him not kill him, but still, it’d hurt like hell!
“By the way, why isn’t Li Ye here?” To stop Xu Qian from asking anything more explicit, Lin Xunye abruptly changed the topic.
Xu Qian filled up Lin Xunye’s empty glass. “He went with Teacher Ge to the neighboring city. Said he wants to burn bright and fulfill his life’s value.”
Lin Xunye’s hand froze on the glass, and his eyelid twitched violently. “Li Ye went with Teacher Ge to another city?!”
Outside the provincial calligraphy museum.
The moment Lin Xunye got off the high-speed train, he headed straight for the museum. Xu Qian, running behind him, couldn’t keep up.
After running two kilometers and panting hard, Xu Qian finally caught up.
“Bro, why’d you stop running?”
Lin Xunye’s expression was terrifyingly dark. “Something dirty is here. We’re buying tickets back right now.”
Xu Qian: “…”
“Bro, are you messing with me?” Xu Qian complained, “My feet are killing me! And why did we take the train instead of our private jet? If we flew, we’d be here in a flash!”
In the distance, a familiar figure drew closer. Lin Xunye smacked Xu Qian’s forehead. “Then you stay here. I’m leaving.”
As he turned to go, Xu Qian caught sight of the approaching Lin Youjia, dressed to impress.
“Damn, my eyes are cursed.” Xu Qian ran to follow Lin Xunye again. “Bro, wait for me! I’m coming too!”
“Young Master Xu, Xiao Ye!” Lin Youjia quickened his pace and grabbed Xu Qian’s arm.
Xu Qian reacted like a ghost had grabbed him, jumping a meter high.
Lin Youjia looked awkward for a moment, then extended a hand. “Xu Shao, long time no see.”
Xu Qian hid his hand behind his back. “We don’t know each other. Don’t shake my hand or bro will think my hand stinks and won’t let me on the train.”
Lin Youjia: “…”
Lin Xunye, who had turned back, chuckled: “Haha.”
“Xiao Ye, how have you been? Mom and Dad and I all miss you,” Lin Youjia tried shifting the topic, reaching a hand toward Lin Xunye.
Lin Xunye took a big step back and clenched his fists in his pockets. “Get lost.”
Getting disrespected twice in a row, Lin Youjia’s face turned ugly, and he tried lecturing him. But before he could finish a sentence, a punch landed on his face.
Lin Xunye had been bottling up his anger these days, and Lin Youjia’s appearance made for the perfect punching bag.
After two punches, Lin Youjia’s bodyguards pulled him away.
Even from far away, Lin Xunye could still hear Lin Youjia spouting his outdated theory of alpha superiority over omegas.
He even threw in a line suggesting Lin Xunye should hurry and give Gu Pei a child.
Outrageous.
If anything, Gu Pei should give him one.
Lin Xunye felt a tug on his sleeve. Xu Qian asked, “Bro, are we still going back?”
Lin Xunye replied, “No. We’re going to find Teacher Ge and Li Ye.”
They hadn’t run far before, but it was a holiday, and the museum was packed. In the short time they’d been gone, the line had extended far outside.
They didn’t pull any strings and queued up like everyone else.
Before coming, Lin Xunye had messaged both Ge Yan and Li Ye. After confirming they were meeting with the museum director to discuss a partnership, he relaxed.
After all, Li Ye really was a calligraphy maniac.
He’d decided at a young age never to marry and to spend his life with ink and paper.
Lin Xunye had seen it firsthand.
In the two years of studying calligraphy in high school, Li Ye was the most eccentric “art madman” at their institution.
Every day he’d talk to his brushes for two minutes, then write nonstop for the rest of the day.
Though Lin Xunye also loved calligraphy, he would at least take breaks.
Li Ye, though? No breaks ever.
After queuing for half an hour, Lin Xunye entered the museum and immediately spotted Teacher Ge… and someone extremely familiar.
So familiar that he wanted to marinate him in cilantro for a whole day and then chop him into bits.
After Lin Xunye had stormed off, Gu Pei hadn’t reached out again he’d only told the housekeeper to get rid of all the cilantro he’d bought.
A kitten needed to be caught slowly.
Besides, the person from his dreams was still unclear he couldn’t be sure if it was Lin Xunye or someone else.
But he hoped it was Lin Xunye.
Though they didn’t have much emotional foundation yet, and Lin Xunye clearly didn’t like him much.
But that wasn’t a problem. He had time to win him over.
One thing was for sure: he was never eating cilantro again.
He only came to this city to unwind a bit for work who would’ve thought he’d run into Lin Xunye?
A total stroke of luck.
Lin Xunye noticed them at the same time they noticed him.
Ge Yan greeted him first, “Xunye is such a good kid.”
Gu Pei didn’t immediately reply. He was replaying scenes of Lin Xunye threatening him with fists and clinging to him during heat demanding a temporary mark.
After a moment, Gu Pei agreed, “Yes. He has a great temper.”
Ge Yan, feeling like she’d found a kindred spirit, smiled warmly. “Exactly! He looks fierce, but he’s really sweet. At our institute, he’s the brightest star. Great at teaching too. Every time we have new students, he takes over for half a semester to help smooth their edges.”
“Since you’re legally married to him, I’ll tell you a secret,” she said conspiratorially.
Gu Pei leaned in, intrigued.
“Xunye loves oranges.”
Gu Pei searched his memory but found nothing about Lin Xunye liking oranges. “Did he tell you that himself?”
Ge Yan replied, “It was about two months ago, after he got back from New Zealand. We met up and he smelled like citrus. I thought he’d met a beloved Alpha. But he said he’d just eaten oranges non-stop for a whole day and night he was basically marinated.”
“This child, really. Even if he loves them, he shouldn’t eat so many. It’s not good for his health.”
Ge Yan rambled on about Lin Xunye, and Gu Pei’s smile only grew wider after learning about the orange thing.
Lin Xunye approached them silently, trying to eavesdrop on any potential trash talk.
But the first thing he heard was Gu Pei’s voice, ringing clear in his chest: “A Ye is wonderful. We’ll be together for a very long time.”
His heart skipped a beat.
He suddenly wanted to ask, “How long is very long?”
But he didn’t.
The future was uncertain. Who knew? The Lin family could collapse tomorrow, and then their marriage would be over.
When Lin Xunye finally walked up behind them, Gu Pei noticed but didn’t react, continuing his conversation with Ge Yan.
Just as Ge Yan was about to reveal how Lin Xunye used to sneak out at night to walk the institute dogs, Lin Xunye interrupted.
“Teacher, why didn’t you bring me along? Are you abandoning me?”
Ge Yan noticed him then and quickly said, “Of course not! Mr. Gu said you weren’t feeling well, so I didn’t want to trouble you. Are you better now?”
Lin Xunye nodded while secretly stomping on Gu Pei’s foot.
Gu Pei didn’t move. His custom shoes were ruined, but he didn’t budge.
After all, it probably hurt more for Lin Xunye stepping on the hard floor in slippers.
Gu Pei’s eyes darkened as he looked at Lin Xunye’s open-toed sandals.
He couldn’t help but wonder doesn’t it hurt if someone steps on your foot in such a crowded place?
If he knew Lin Xunye took the train here, his expression might crack completely.
Ge Yan was there to discuss hosting an art exhibit with the museum director.
Gu Pei was there to compete for the hosting rights.
Ge Yan had voting power in the decision.
Although it was a free, government-sponsored public project, the potential profits behind it were enormous.
Gu Pei had his eyes on that.
Other competitors included the Lin family from Haishi and the Zhang family from the local city.
Xu Qian’s family had wanted to get involved too, but once they heard Gu Pei was interested, they dropped out immediately.
Gu Pei was like a god of war who could beat him?
Even if it was just for a steamed bun, Gu Pei could snatch it back if he didn’t want to share.
But clearly, the Lin family didn’t know their place.
After learning the full situation, Lin Xunye tried to leave. But before he could, Ge Yan pulled him back.
She insisted he stay to observe.
Neither the museum director nor Gu Pei objected, so it was settled.
Xu Qian wasn’t so lucky he had no stake in the project and knew nothing about calligraphy, so he was excluded.
Thankfully, he was playful by nature and left to browse the artwork on display.
The main discussion was scheduled for tomorrow.
Today was just a meet and greet.
But Xu Qian was already gone, and Lin Xunye couldn’t call him back.
The meeting venue was set at the city’s most unique hotel.
Lin Xunye attended as Ge Yan’s student not as Gu Pei’s spouse.
Gu Pei was the one who suggested it.
Originally, Ge Yan wanted to let them spend time together, but Gu Pei spoke first: “Let A Ye enter with you. After all, A Ye is himself first, and my partner second.”
Lin Xunye didn’t expect that aren’t alphas usually self-centered?
Then again, since the beginning, Gu Pei kept emphasizing how good he was.
Was he really that good?
Lin Xunye didn’t know. But entering with Teacher Ge felt right.
He definitely didn’t want to hear people calling him “Mrs. Gu.”
If anything, Mrs. Lin Gu might be acceptable.
Ge Yan was surprised at first, but quickly smiled in approval.
Gu Pei’s group arrived early and waited twenty minutes before the Zhang family’s representative arrived Zhang Wangjiang, second young master of the city’s biggest conglomerate.
He had just turned 25 and loved pretty things.
The moment he saw Lin Xunye, his eyes never left.
Lin’s long red hair was tied up into a little ponytail on top of his head, showing off his youthful hairline and flawless features. His lip ring glittered under the light.
Zhang Wangjiang had a thing for shiny objects. With five visible piercings all artsy Lin Xunye looked like a treasure trove to him.
He stared the whole time.
Lin Xunye noticed, but since Teacher Ge was present, he didn’t make a scene.
But Zhang Wangjiang was oblivious and didn’t notice Lin Xunye’s increasing annoyance.
When Lin shifted legs five times and was about to stand up and kick him, a hand landed on his shoulder.
“Mr. Zhang, how have you been?” Gu Pei stepped in, blocking Zhang’s view completely.
Zhang tried to peek around him, but Gu Pei’s broad frame blocked everything.
“Pretty good, pretty good. How about you, Brother Gu?” he replied distractedly, still trying to see past him.
Gu Pei smiled, his voice pleasant but cold. “I got married recently. My partner is cool and handsome a very special person. But there’s someone who keeps staring, and it makes me very uncomfortable.”
His voice grew lower with each word.
Zhang Wangjiang didn’t get it and replied offhandedly, “Oh? What’s his name? I’ll pay a visit sometime.”
Lin Xunye nearly choked on his water.
The dumbest guy he’d ever met.
Gu Pei called out, “A Ye, come greet this young man.”
Lin Xunye: “…”
Zhang finally got it. “He he’s your partner?!”
Gu Pei didn’t answer, just turned to meet Lin Xunye’s eyes.
Lin Xunye: Idiot.
Gu Pei: Mhm.
Lin Xunye: “…”
“Sis-in-law!” Zhang Wangjiang called out again.
No way to pretend he didn’t hear that.
Lin Xunye pushed Gu Pei aside and formally said, “You can call me Lin Xunye. No need for ‘sis-in-law.’”
Zhang Wangjiang froze.
The person he’d been drooling over… was someone else’s wife.
