The Unmarried Omega Falls into Being a Wife - Chapter 18
Lin Xunye was provoked by his words and asked, half in disbelief, “Really?”
He actually admired Gu Pei quite a bit able to make feeding him an orange sound like some grand romantic gesture.
Gu Pei let out a light “Mm.”
Lin Xunye asked again, “Do you really want me to eat it?”
Gu Pei seemed surprised by the question and didn’t answer immediately.
After all, the Lin Xunye from before would’ve just told him to get lost, not ask follow-up questions.
Without getting an answer, Lin Xunye shrank his head, his shoulders relaxing as he tried to burrow into the blankets only to be stopped halfway by Gu Pei pulling him back.
“Yes, I really want you to eat it.”
Lin Xunye’s sleepy eyes opened wide. Gu Pei’s expression was serious, but the words in Lin Xunye’s ears sounded almost… coquettish.
He thought about it: with that face, if Gu Pei were to act cute, maybe it wouldn’t be so embarrassing after all.
At least right now, he was willing to eat the orange in Gu Pei’s hand just for those words.
Lin Xunye lowered his head and bit into the orange slice, warning, “Just this once. Don’t do it again next time.”
He finished that slice, and another immediately followed.
Lin Xunye looked at him. Gu Pei’s eyes were cast downward, not looking at him, yet it felt like he was being closely watched.
Lin Xunye slowly bit into the orange, chewing and swallowing it.
With Gu Pei feeding him, he ended up eating half a plate of oranges.
At the same time, the concentration of citrus-scented pheromones in the room gradually increased.
Gu Pei hadn’t released a lot just enough to subtly mask that unpleasant corn scent and cover Lin Xunye in his own.
After eating the oranges, drowsiness crept over Lin Xunye again.
Before falling asleep, he reminded, “Remember to close the door when you leave. I don’t like people with bad habits.”
Gu Pei responded softly.
After confirming Lin Xunye only carried his citrus scent now, Gu Pei leisurely left.
Lin Xunye slept deeply.
So deep that in his dream, a blue-haired boy kissed him again and again against the classroom podium.
As usual, Lin Xunye had no power to resist and could only let the boy do as he pleased.
The boy nibbled and bit at his lips repeatedly, but there was no pain only pleasure.
At 8 a.m., Lin Xunye lay in bed staring at the ceiling.
Damn it. It’s always the same dream, yet he could never remember the details once he woke up.
So annoying.
After sighing three times, Lin Xunye got out of bed.
Today was the day they were returning to Haishi. He didn’t want to wait for Ge Yan to come call him.
Although everyone knew he was a heavy sleeper, getting caught was still embarrassing.
Eyes still closed, he grabbed his toothpaste and toothbrush. As the toothpaste squeezed out, a faint citrus scent wafted up.
Lin Xunye paused and slowly raised the tube to eye level.
The big, bold letters that said Citrus Flavor stunned him.
Wasn’t his toothpaste original flavor?
He never used fruity toothpaste.
This new citrus-flavored one was suspicious.
Lin Xunye searched the sink for his old tube but couldn’t find it anywhere.
Staring at the toothbrush in his hand for a while, he finally gave in.
Hesitating for a moment, he stuck the brush in his mouth.
Whatever. Better to have toothpaste than none at all.
When Lin Xunye walked downstairs in his slippers, Ge Yan was already waiting for him.
“Teacher, you’re up early,” he said.
Ge Yan joked with a smile, “This is early? It’s already past nine.”
Lin Xunye gave a dry laugh.
Maybe he should gently tell Ge Yan that this was early for him.
They waited downstairs for ten minutes before Xu Qian and Li Ye arrived.
After being away for two days, Lin Xunye had totally forgotten about them. It wasn’t until he saw them that he remembered. “Where have you two been these past days?”
Li Ye, slightly out of breath, said, “I was checking out some potential locations for the agency. I’ll send you the good ones on WeChat later.”
Xu Qian added, “I ate a ton of good food and went to check out how the local bars are run here. Not great not as good as ours.”
Lin Xunye was speechless. Xu Qian really was someone who either ate or slept all day.
Once everyone was together, they bought some local specialties and started the journey back to Haishi.
Midway through, Lin Xunye suddenly asked, “Teacher, have you seen Gu Pei?”
Ge Yan smiled but said nothing.
Lin Xunye was confused but didn’t press further.
Gu Pei was such a big guy no way he’d get lost. Why was he worrying?
Since he’d gotten plenty of sleep the night before, Lin Xunye surprisingly didn’t doze off on the way back.
Xu Qian had partied all night and was now fast asleep.
Ge Yan and Li Ye were full of energy, discussing the location selection for their calligraphy agency.
Staring out the window at the rapidly passing scenery, Lin Xunye felt sentimental.
The last time he felt like this was right after he returned to China.
Back then, he sighed every day about the arranged marriage. Now, not so much.
Gu Pei, as a person, was so so but in some ways, not bad. Acceptable, even.
Not as terrible as Lin Xunye had imagined.
He used to think that if the other person was morally corrupt, he would rather die than give in he’d fight the Lin family to the bitter end. But Gu Pei had turned out surprisingly well.
Respectful. Good values. Probably a hot commodity in the dating market. So why an arranged marriage with him?
Before he knew it, Lin Xunye had mentally listed out all of Gu Pei’s good qualities.
When he realized what he was doing, he froze.
Was he going insane?
Actually thinking Gu Pei was pretty great?
Lin Xunye was shocked at himself. The rest of the trip, he intentionally emptied his mind, even hoping Xu Qian would snore a bit to help distract him.
After returning to Haishi, Li Ye immediately went to scout more agency locations, while Lin Xunye and Xu Qian accompanied Ge Yan to visit some coastal attractions.
They sat in the same spot as a few days ago.
Xu Qian, ever the chatterbox, kept talking to Ge Yan non-stop.
At first, Lin Xunye tried to stop him, but when Ge Yan said it was fine, he let it go.
Sitting in the same place again, Lin Xunye instinctively scanned the crowd.
After a moment, he disappointedly looked away.
Guess he’d have to go to the bar to find him.
After saying a quick goodbye to the others, he walked toward the beach alone.
This was his third visit.
The first time was back in sophomore year of high school. Lin Youjia had locked him out, saying he smelled bad and wouldn’t let him in.
Even though Lin Xunye explained over and over that it was just ink, Lin Youjia wouldn’t open the door. He had no choice but to leave.
After wandering aimlessly, he saw a sign for the beach.
Without thinking much, he paid one yuan and took the bus there.
It was his first time seeing the real ocean.
The salty sea breeze seemed to wash away all his worries and exhaustion. Lin Xunye even thought about staying there forever. But eventually, people had to go home.
The price of returning with a salty scent was getting scolded.
That wasn’t much to Lin Xunye.
But that night, his mother refused to let him have dinner.
Starving and smelling the food from the neighbors, he climbed out the window and peeked into their kitchen. Thankfully, the neighbor lady was kind and gave him a big bowl of food.
He didn’t accept her invitation to eat inside.
Just having food was already enough. He didn’t want to trouble anyone more.
He’d only taken a few bites when the door next door opened and Gu Pei came out with a lunchbox.
He didn’t invite Lin Xunye in. Instead, after learning what happened, he sat outside and ate with him.
“Sss”
Lin Xunye slapped his forehead.
Why was he thinking about Gu Pei again? Weird.
The sea breeze and waves came crashing in. Lin Xunye kicked off his shoes and ran into the water, enjoying the sensation of the waves hitting him.
Suddenly, someone approached.
From the corner of his eye, Lin Xunye saw a petite woman probably an omega.
The woman boldly stepped closer. “Hi, can I have your contact info?”
Lin Xunye was generally more polite to women.
“Sorry, I don’t have any.”
The woman clearly didn’t believe him. She followed him, playfully insisting, “Just your WeChat is fine. If not, a phone number. Or even your QQ number.”
Lin Xunye had rejected many people before, but the woman was polite. He was still figuring out how to turn her down gently when she said:
“It’s rare to see an Alpha like you. Just give me a chance.”
Lin Xunye’s prewritten excuse was instantly torn apart. He finally turned to her, eyes holding something she couldn’t read: “You think I’m an Alpha?”
Sensing hope, the woman quickly said, “Yeah! You’ve got a great build, you’re super handsome, and your fashion sense is amazing. You’re the best looking Alpha I’ve seen!”
Lin Xunye: “…”
So he looked like an Alpha?
Guess saying he was a Beta before was too modest. Once he divorced Gu Pei, he’d just start calling himself an Alpha scare off all the people trying to hit on him.
“Hey, handsome,” the woman said again.
“Ah, uh ” Lin Xunye snapped out of it and said without pause, “Sorry, I’m an omega. Not one of those bad Alphas.”
“O… Omega?” the woman was stunned. “You’re an Omega?”
Lin Xunye turned around and showed her the suppressant patch on his neck.
Only then did the woman believe him, her eyes full of regret.
If she liked O-O couples, Lin Xunye might not have escaped.
The regret in her eyes was almost tangible. Lin Xunye instantly felt awkward and walked off despite her protests.
He was going to say he was a Beta.
But he suddenly remembered Gu Pei saying being an Omega was great too.
In a moment of heat, he told the truth.
“Tch.” Lin Xunye clicked his tongue. Gu Pei again. Driving him crazy.
Hands in pockets, he walked back. No more strangers tried to hit on him.
Even if someone thought about it, his expression alone kept them at bay.
After all, when he wasn’t talking, Lin Xunye looked intimidating. Most people’s first impression of him was “rebellious.”
His bright red hair seemed to confirm that image but Lin Xunye didn’t care what others thought. He was who he was. No one else mattered.
Though, Gu Pei’s words… were starting to get to him.
When Gu Pei returned from the neighboring city, it was already close to sunset.
He was supposed to return at 3 p.m., but dealing with someone who had inappropriate thoughts about Lin Xunye took more time than expected.
His hands were tainted with a corn-like scent, which annoyed him greatly.
Zhang Wangjiang’s corn-scented pheromones, much like the man himself, seemed sweet and subtle—but were unpredictable underneath.
You never knew if that nice-smelling corn would crack your teeth.
His phone buzzed. Gu Pei glanced at it.
A Ye: Help me deal with Lin Gaoyuan.
Gu Pei tapped his knuckles lightly and sent a message.
“Ding!”
Just as Lin Xunye closed his eyes, his phone buzzed.
“Which ancestor is texting now,” he muttered, opening the message.
Bad Guy: Who?
Lin Xunye: Your father-in-law.
He deleted the message, then retyped it:
Lin Xunye: Your legal partner’s dad.
There were two reasons for the rewrite:
- The word father-in-law looked weird.
- The word legal was a subtle reminder to Gu Pei to follow the contract.
After all, when they first discussed terms, Gu Pei promised to help him handle the Lin family.
After sending the message, Lin Xunye waited for a while.
But his phone never buzzed again.
