The Unmarried Omega Falls into Being a Wife - Chapter 19
Gu Pei didn’t agree, and Lin Xunye started to feel uneasy.
After parting ways with Ge Yan and the others and returning to the apartment, Lin Gaoyuan started calling him like a man possessed.
When he didn’t pick up, the calls just kept coming.
Eventually, with no other choice, Lin Xunye answered.
Even though he was prepared and had already held the phone away from his ear, Lin Gaoyuan’s furious roar still echoed through the bedroom.
“Lin Xunye! You’re a Lin! How could you not help your brother secure this deal? Do you even understand how important this deal is for the family?”
Lin Xunye rubbed his ear and held the phone even farther away.
Lin Gaoyuan kept ranting. Lin Xunye had no intention of replying until Lin Gaoyuan suddenly said:
“If you can’t help your brother, then beg President Gu! Ask him to transfer the money as soon as possible!”
Lin Xunye caught the key words: “Gu Pei hasn’t given you the money?”
Lin Gaoyuan panted a few times, and his tone suddenly softened.
“Xunye, Daddy was wrong just now. I got too worked up. Don’t be angry at Daddy.”
Seeing Lin Gaoyuan switch to emotional manipulation again, Lin Xunye asked once more:
“So Gu Pei hasn’t sent the investment he promised?”
As soon as he said it, Lin Gaoyuan got agitated again:
“Xunye, please, you have to save your father. I really need that money!”
Lin Xunye was silent for a moment, then hung up the phone.
Lin Xunye waited for Gu Pei’s message until midnight. When nothing came after twelve, he turned on Do Not Disturb and went to sleep.
The next day, he was surprised to find someone beside him on the pillow.
“What are you doing here?” Lin Xunye rubbed his messy hair and asked curiously.
Gu Pei replied, “I happened to be free, so I came over.”
Lin Xunye looked him up and down, then blurted out:
“Is the Gu Corporation going bankrupt? Don’t you have to work?”
Gu Pei raised his watch-adorned wrist into Lin Xunye’s view.
“I’m already off work.”
Lin Xunye squinted at the time and his eyes widened instantly.
It was already afternoon.
That was terrifying.
“Your watch must be broken,” Lin Xunye said with certainty.
Gu Pei just smiled and said nothing.
Despite this surprise appearance, Lin Xunye remained calm.
But he hadn’t forgotten the main issue.
“Are you going to help me with that favor I asked about last night?”
Gu Pei pretended not to understand. “What favor?”
Lin Xunye: “.”
He took a deep breath, then exhaled immediately to avoid suffocating himself.
“We agreed in the beginning you’d help me deal with my dad, and I’d fake marry you. Don’t tell me you’re going back on your word?”
He clenched his fists, staring intensely at Gu Pei.
Gu Pei looked helpless
but still didn’t give a straight answer. Instead, he explained:
“A fake marriage means no legal certificate, and no physical relationship. I don’t think we meet those requirements.”
Lin Xunye’s head began to ache from his explanation.
“Fine, fine! Let’s just say it’s a real marriage, okay?”
Satisfied, Gu Pei picked up a contract that had been sitting on the bedside table and handed it to Lin Xunye.
“Cohabitation Agreement,” Lin Xunye read aloud.
Gu Pei nodded in acknowledgment.
Lin Xunye flipped through a few pages, uncertain, and then raised a question:
“Why do we have to live together?”
“There’s no emotional bond between us. Living together is something real couples do. We don’t need to, do we?”
He looked at Gu Pei like he was overstepping.
Gu Pei, unfazed, pulled back the contract and stood up, looking down at Lin Xunye from a superior angle.
“You don’t have to sign it. But if you don’t, I’ll only help you deal with your family on the surface. It might not achieve the effect you want.”
“I hope you’ll consider carefully.”
Gu Pei picked up the contract. After one last glance at Lin Xunye, he turned and walked toward the door.
One step.
Two steps.
“Wait.”
Gu Pei paused.
The same baiting tactic always worked.
Lin Xunye hesitated. Gu Pei lifted his foot again.
“I’ll sign. But I have conditions too.”
Gu Pei turned back and sat down in the chair again. He lifted his chin slightly, signaling Lin Xunye to go ahead.
Frustrated by Gu Pei’s attitude, Lin Xunye’s tone softened slightly:
“First, I want my own room. You can’t enter without my permission. Second, you can’t force me to do anything especially during your rut. Also, I want a study.”
“It can be bigger than yours, but it can’t be smaller.”
To Gu Pei, these requests were minor.
He couldn’t enter Lin Xunye’s bedroom but he could find ways to get Lin Xunye into his.
He couldn’t touch Lin Xunye during his rut but as legal spouses, he had the right to receive comfort. The only issue was that his scent would be exposed during rut, and that was problematic.
He didn’t want Lin Xunye to know that he was that Alpha.
The last request was easiest to handle.
There were plenty of rooms in the villa. Lin Xunye could choose whichever he liked for a study.
After thinking it over briefly, Gu Pei said, “Okay.”
Lin Xunye relaxed. Just as he was about to stretch, Gu Pei added:
“I also have one condition. As your legal partner, I hope I can help you through your heat, if you need it.”
Lin Xunye frowned. “I’m an adult. I use suppressants.”
Gu Pei pressed, “Suppressants aren’t 100% safe. Don’t tell me you’ve already forgotten what happened last time.”
As soon as he said that, Lin Xunye remembered.
During last month’s heat, he had used a suppressant he found in Gu Pei’s room. Right after the injection, a wave of heat exploded through his body, bringing sensations he’d never felt before.
Though it had felt good afterward, Lin Xunye didn’t want to go through it again.
Since he didn’t respond, Gu Pei coaxed,
“We’re legal spouses. It’s your right. Exercising your rights helps our cooperation, don’t you think?”
Gu Pei’s words sounded nice, but Lin Xunye wasn’t stupid.
He didn’t agree right away just said he’d think about it.
Being able to live together was already a win for Gu Pei.
The rest could wait.
Dinner was made by an auntie Gu Pei hired to cook at the apartment.
The fridge was so empty it looked brand new.
Except for five drinks on the top shelf, it was completely bare. The auntie even scolded Lin Xunye for it.
She moved fast within the first hour of Lin Xunye and Gu Pei awkwardly staring at each other, the dishes were already done.
The apartment wasn’t as big as Gu Pei’s villa, so the auntie’s voice carried clearly.
Lin Xunye escaped the awkward bedroom first and rushed to the table.
He couldn’t cook, and usually ordered takeout. He wasn’t used to anyone coming to cook at home. Seeing hot, freshly made food in his familiar little apartment felt strangely surreal.
“Auntie, eat with us,” Lin Xunye said, stopping her from leaving.
She hesitated awkwardly. “I can’t, it’s not appropriate. You two eat, I’ll head out.”
Lin Xunye wanted to say something to convince her, but didn’t know how.
Gu Pei came out of the bedroom and chimed in,
“Eat with us. There’s too much food would be a waste.”
Since Gu Pei was the one paying, the auntie didn’t refuse anymore. She grabbed a pair of chopsticks and sat nearby.
After dinner, she cleaned up and left.
Lounging on the sofa, Lin Xunye muttered, “President Gu, aren’t you leaving yet?”
Gu Pei paused while unbuttoning his sleeve, then buttoned it back up.
“I’ll leave in a bit.”
Lin Xunye hummed in acknowledgment and returned to his bedroom, closing the door.
He didn’t lock it Gu Pei had a key. Locking it would be pointless.
Twenty minutes later, Gu Pei knocked on the door.
“I’m heading out. I’ll pick you up tomorrow at 3 to go to the Lin family. Don’t oversleep.”
Lin Xunye responded with a soft “Oh,” and listened quietly to the sound of footsteps fading.
Visiting the Lin family was part of their plan. Gu Pei said it was best to handle things face-to-face. Lin Xunye didn’t quite get what there was to meet about, but since they were partners now, he trusted Gu Pei wouldn’t screw him over.
At 3 p.m. the next day, Lin Xunye put on a camouflage outfit and followed Gu Pei back to the Lin household.
His hair was still bright red, loud and flamboyant.
The camouflage didn’t mute his wild aura it made him look even cooler.
The first thing Gu Pei said when they met was:
“You really suit this look.”
Lin Xunye had deliberately picked the most difficult outfit in his wardrobe: “…”
Clearly, Gu Pei had a very warped idea of what suitable meant.
During their Nth ride together, Lin Xunye finally asked a long-held question:
“Does your driver ever work?”
He’d only seen Gu Pei’s driver once. That time, Gu Pei had been the one driving too.
Gu Pei turned on the left signal, checked for safety, then merged into the lane.
“I gave him today off.”
Lin Xunye nodded, now understanding.
Maybe it was just in his head, but it felt like the car arrived at the destination immediately after starting.
Before he even got out, he saw Lin Gaoyuan standing at the door with a cane.
When did he become lame?
“Do you need me to open the door for you?” Gu Pei asked.
Lin Xunye declined.
“No need. I can do it myself.”
I’m an adult.
Just as he pushed the door open and stepped halfway out, a hand pulled him back.
Gu Pei’s warm fingers brushed against him, unclicking the seatbelt with a flick.
He said nothing the whole time but Lin Xunye felt like he’d said everything.
At the villa entrance, Lin Gaoyuan had only seen half of Lin Xunye’s body. Just as he was about to step forward, the half disappeared again.
Behind him, Lin Youjia muttered in dissatisfaction:
“Marrying well really is everything. He doesn’t even bother showing respect to his own father and brother.”
Lin Gaoyuan didn’t respond. Instead, he tapped his cane on the ground and said:
“If you hadn’t pissed off Master Ge, do you think I’d be faking a limp just for a bit of money?”
Chastised, Lin Youjia instantly shut up and lowered his head like a quail.
All he did was tell Ge Yan about Lin Xunye’s “bad behavior.”
Who knew the guy would get so mad and kick him out of the deal entirely?
The two walked slowly to Lin Gaoyuan.
As soon as he saw Gu Pei, Lin Gaoyuan rushed forward, full of flattery, calling him “son-in-law” again and again. Lin Xunye’s ears felt like they were developing calluses from hearing it.
He looked at Gu Pei who, despite looking polite and composed, didn’t let Lin Gaoyuan get anywhere near him.
This guy’s got something.
With warm greetings from both Lin Gaoyuan and Lin Youjia, Lin Xunye reluctantly entered the house.
The interior was exactly as he’d left it no changes at all.
Just like his parents and brother still standing on their pedestals.
But watching them grovel in front of Gu Pei, Lin Xunye couldn’t feel any joy.
He thought he’d laugh when he saw this.
But now that he did, all he felt was sadness.
This is my family…
Suddenly, a warm hand covered the back of his hand.
“The details of how this will work I’ll need to hear Ah Xun’s opinion first.”
