The Unmarried Omega Falls into Being a Wife - Chapter 21
Gu Pei moved quickly. As soon as Lin Xunye nodded in agreement, he contacted the moving company.
Just as they arrived upstairs, the movers showed up downstairs.
Lin Xunye’s personal belongings were scattered all over the apartment. It took over two hours for him and Gu Pei to sort out the non essentials.
“Are you really taking all of this?” Gu Pei leaned against the doorframe with his arms crossed, watching Lin Xunye zip up a suitcase.
Sitting on the suitcase, Lin Xunye pointed at the stuffed animal behind Gu Pei. “That too.”
Gu Pei turned around and immediately felt a headache coming on.
“We’re just moving in together, not leaving Earth.”
Lin Xunye brushed past him, picked up the stuffed animal, carefully placed it in a dust bag, and set it down by Gu Pei’s feet. “This is the prize I won for my first calligraphy competition. I’m bringing it with me.”
Back then, Lin Xunye didn’t have much money. He had saved up for calligraphy lessons by cutting down on food and doing odd jobs. This stuffed animal was his first prize after joining an institution and entering a competition.
It was only a special award.
But to Lin Xunye, it meant a lot.
Gu Pei paused, lowering his gaze to the stuffed animal. The two big, round eyes of the teddy bear stared back at him. A bit of stuffing was poking out from one of its ears clearly, it had been around for years.
He picked it up without a word and held out his hand to Lin Xunye. “So, ready to go now?”
Lin Xunye, still sitting on the suitcase, looked up at Gu Pei’s outstretched hand. There was something oddly familiar about this scene.
It felt like Gu Pei had once looked down at him from above, while he himself had been asking for something from a lower place.
Weird.
Gu Pei nudged his hand forward slightly. Lin Xunye shook his head, dispelling the strange thoughts. He took Gu Pei’s hand and stood up with its support.
“Glad to be living with you,” Gu Pei said, letting go of his hand and placing the teddy bear squarely in the middle of the villa’s couch.
Lin Xunye shook out his hand and walked to the other side of the couch.
He suspected there was something wrong with Gu Pei.
First he wanted a handshake at the apartment, now he wants one at the villa?
Are all Alphas this into ceremony?
Lin Xunye didn’t get it, and he had no plans to try.
During his previous stays at the villa, Lin Xunye had always stayed in Gu Pei’s bedroom. Now that he was moving in permanently, it felt a little strange.
The couch sank slightly as Gu Pei sat down on the other side of the teddy bear.
With the bear between them, the two began to talk.
Gu Pei said, “You can pick any room you want. Once you’ve decided, just let me know or contact the renovation company. I’ll cover all the costs.”
Lin Xunye replied dryly, “Thanks.”
Gu Pei went on, “No need to thank me. After all, we’re legally married.”
Lin Xunye sat up straight, resting his head on the bear. “Can you not talk like that? It’s really weird.”
Gu Pei casually picked up a fork from the fruit platter on the coffee table and offered Lin Xunye a piece of apple.
Lin Xunye pulled his mouth into a frown, showing no intention of eating it.
Gu Pei turned the fork and popped the apple into his own mouth.
So, he really doesn’t like apples.
That must mean he really doesn’t like corn either.
After finishing the apple, Gu Pei placed the fork back on the platter.
With the teddy bear blocking half his view, Lin Xunye couldn’t see what Gu Pei was doing.
Gu Pei wiped his hands and leaned slightly toward Lin Xunye, whose head was still swaying on the bear’s head. “I’m just reminding you that we are legally married. You said before it was a fake marriage, and that’s made me a bit uneasy.”
Lin Xunye was speechless.
But he had been the one to say it, so he didn’t have much of a leg to stand on.
“Fine, I get it.”
He slid off the bear and stared at the fruit platter.
Which fork had Gu Pei used again?
He kind of wanted to eat, but what if he picked the wrong fork…
On the other side of the bear, Gu Pei couldn’t see Lin Xunye either, but he hadn’t taken his eyes off him.
While Lin Xunye was still debating whether to eat or not, Gu Pei had already forked a strawberry and held it out to him. “It’s clean. Want it?”
Lin Xunye looked at the sudden appearance of the strawberry with suspicion.
Gu Pei held it there, unmoving. After thinking for two seconds, Lin Xunye refused. “No. I hate strawberries the most.”
Then he glanced at the teacup on the coffee table and added, “Also, your black tea I don’t like that either.”
Gu Pei’s lips curved slightly into a smile. “Sorry for the poor hospitality. Guess you’ll have to suffer for now.”
He set the strawberry and fork back onto the fruit platter and stood up to head upstairs.
Downstairs, Lin Xunye hesitated for a long moment before finally picking up the fork and eating the strawberry.
As he bit into it, the first thing he tasted was the sweetness, but then there was a faint hint of citrus.
He frowned and forked another strawberry.
The taste was still there.
Since when did forks have flavors?
Back at the apartment, Lin Xunye’s study was small.
When picking out a room at the villa, he specifically chose the largest master bedroom.
In the new environment, he excitedly spent an entire afternoon choosing rooms. It wasn’t until 7 p.m. that he finalized his choice of bedroom and study.
However, with his poor memory for minor details, he didn’t realize that the room he’d deliberately picked supposedly far from Gu Pei’s bedroom was actually right next to it.
At midnight, Lin Xunye lay in bed, tossing and turning, unable to sleep.
He touched the sheets, then stood at the floor-to-ceiling window to gaze at the lavender fields outside.
Gu Pei had pretty good taste.
He’d thought that the first time he visited the villa’s lavender fields were beautiful.
But since Gu Pei was a jerk, he refused to compliment him.
After standing there a while, Lin Xunye jumped back into bed with one foot.
Since it was just the two of them living here, and his room was “far” from Gu Pei’s, he figured even if he danced on the bed, Gu Pei wouldn’t hear it.
So he rolled across the bed twice before finally falling asleep.
The next morning, Lin Xunye opened the door and greeted Gu Pei with a yawn. “Morning?”
Gu Pei stood at the door with dark circles under his eyes. “Morning.”
Lin Xunye didn’t think much of it and brushed past him to head downstairs.
Gu Pei didn’t even turn around but reached out and accurately grabbed the back of his shirt collar. The cool skin of his hand brushed against Lin Xunye’s neck and gland, making him shiver. He slapped Gu Pei’s hand away. “What, you want to fight?”
Gu Pei softened his tone. “I ordered a new mattress for you. It’ll be delivered this afternoon. You don’t need to lift a finger just let them bring it upstairs.”
Lin Xunye pulled his shirt tighter. “Why do we need a new one? The mattress is fine. I like it.”
Gu Pei changed tactics. “I just think there might be one more suited for you.”
“I said I like it. I’m happy with it,” Lin Xunye insisted.
Gu Pei nodded and watched him go downstairs.
He hoped that was true.
That afternoon, the mattress still arrived.
The housekeeper opened the door. At the time, Lin Xunye was upstairs reviewing calligraphy pieces he’d need to explain at an upcoming exhibition.
Gu Pei had forgotten to tell the housekeeper the details, and she didn’t want to make decisions on her own. So she went upstairs and knocked.
Lin Xunye didn’t mind visitors. “Come in, Auntie.”
She opened the door and said, “Young master, the new mattress has arrived. Should we bring it upstairs now?”
“From Gu Pei?” he asked.
The housekeeper was used to him calling Gu Pei by his full name. She confirmed it was.
He didn’t make her wait long. Lin Xunye slipped on his slippers and headed downstairs.
The mattress had been placed in a corner of the living room. He went to the fridge, took out two bottles of water, checked the temperature, and handed them to the workers. “Thanks for your hard work.”
The workers exchanged a look and thanked him before taking the water.
Lin Xunye folded his arms and stared at the mattress, deep in thought.
After a long pause, he finally said, “Could you move it to the second floor?”
Once they agreed, he led them to the study he had picked.
There was no bed in the study, so he had them place the mattress next to the area meant for one.
The workers double checked, as this was an unusual request.
Lin Xunye was very pleased with the setup.
That very night, he moved from the bedroom to the study. For three straight days, he stayed in there going over materials, only leaving for meals. He barely saw Gu Pei.
Gu Pei finally got a good night’s sleep, but after failing to run into Lin Xunye at his bedroom door for three days in a row, he realized something was off.
Outside Gu Corporation.
Wearing a black baseball cap and holding a lunchbox in his right hand, Lin Xunye stood at the entrance.
That morning, while having brunch, Gu Pei had suddenly called him.
He sounded weak over the phone and kept coughing. Lin Xunye wasn’t heartless Gu Pei was his legal husband, and they had a working relationship too he couldn’t just ignore him.
So when Gu Pei asked him to bring lunch to the office, he agreed.
The housekeeper had been cutting fruit in the kitchen. When she found out, she immediately pulled out a brand new lunchbox, cleaned and dried it, and packed up a proper meal.
Before he left, she told him, “Just tell him you made it yourself.”
Lin Xunye didn’t get it, but didn’t argue either.
Mainly because the housekeeper was giving him a strange look that made his hair stand on end.
At the front desk, he said, “Hi, I’m here to see Gu Pei.”
The receptionist, a young woman, frowned slightly at him calling Gu Pei by name but remained polite. “Do you have an appointment?”
He shook his head.
“Sorry, sir, no entry without an appointment.”
Hearing that, Lin Xunye actually felt relieved.
He held up the lunchbox. “This is lunch from his housekeeper. Please call him to come get it. I suggest you hurry he’s got a stomach condition or something.”
The receptionist blinked and nodded. Just as he turned to go, she called out, “Sir, may I have your name?”
“Lin Xunye.”
With that, he walked out of the building.
Gu Pei had just stepped out of the car when he saw Lin Xunye walking out of the building.
He picked up his pace, leaving his assistant behind.
Lin Xunye had a terrible sense of direction and spent forever trying to find the pickup point for his ride. Though he had a bit of money now, he still instinctively canceled rides that cost more than two digits.
Only when no one accepted the ride would he grudgingly increase the price.
But today, luck wasn’t on his side.
Even at 25 yuan, no driver took the order. He gave up.
Might as well take the bus.
Just as he was checking the routes “Nearest stop is two kilometers away…” Gu Pei’s voice came from behind.
“Where are you headed?”
“Home,” he replied automatically.
Wait why did that voice sound so much like Gu Pei?
He spun around and his nose brushed against Gu Pei’s Adam’s apple.
Gu Pei had leaned in behind him, and now, his lips lightly grazed Lin Xunye’s forehead.
Lin Xunye froze.
A second later, he jumped back, clutching his forehead. “What are you doing?”
Gu Pei remained calm, not a flicker of emotion in his voice. “I tripped. Lost my balance a bit.”
