The Unmarried Omega Falls into Being a Wife - Chapter 22
Lin Xunye was a little skeptical, but Gu Pei’s eyes were so clear free of even a trace of guilt or deceit. He really didn’t look like he was lying.
Lin Xunye wiped his forehead and said, “Watch yourself next time. It’s just me you pull this on someone else, and they might’ve already hit you.”
Gu Pei responded with a serious nod and said solemnly, “The wind was strong accidents are bound to happen.”
The assistant, who had just arrived and overheard his boss lying: “…”
Was the wind really that strong today?
The assistant glanced down at Gu Pei’s feet, which were firmly planted on the ground, and for the first time, started to doubt himself.
When Lin Xunye saw someone coming, he immediately moved farther away from Gu Pei. “I’m leaving. Your lunch is at the front desk. Eat it or don’t.”
If you don’t eat it, I hope your stomach hurts to death.
But Gu Pei grabbed his arm, keeping him from leaving. “Come with me.”
Lin Xunye struggled, but seeing that Gu Pei had no intention of letting go, he gave up and let himself be pulled into the building.
At the front desk, the receptionist was still on the phone with the secretarial department. When she saw Lin Xunye come back this time with Gu Pei she quickly finished the call and said, “President Gu, this is the lunch brought over by Mr. Lin on your behalf. He said it was especially prepared for you.”
Gu Pei took the plain white lunch box, enunciating slowly: “Especially prepared for me?”
Lin Xunye raised an eyebrow. “Your housekeeper especially asked me to bring it.”
Gu Pei smiled but didn’t argue. He took the lunch box and pulled Lin Xunye into the elevator.
Being in such a confined space with Gu Pei made Lin Xunye uncomfortable. He simply moved a little farther away and didn’t say anything sarcastic.
He was already planning to bolt the moment the elevator doors opened put as much distance between him and Gu Pei as possible.
But Gu Pei didn’t give him that chance.
As soon as the doors opened, Gu Pei grabbed Lin Xunye’s hand again and led him into the CEO’s office.
Lin Xunye wanted to use brute force to shake Gu Pei off, but he knew he didn’t stand much of a chance. Not because Gu Pei was an Alpha and he was an Omega, but because he’d felt Gu Pei’s grip strength before and they were simply not on the same level.
Gu Pei shut the door softly, as if he was afraid of disturbing something.
As soon as they were inside, Lin Xunye flopped down on the sofa.
“What do you want from me?”
Lin Xunye wasn’t stupid. Gu Pei had used the excuse of lunch to call him here there had to be something serious going on.
He cracked his knuckles, mentally preparing for whatever Gu Pei was about to throw at him.
Sure enough, within seconds, Gu Pei said, “I’m attending a banquet tonight. You’re coming with me.”
Lin Xunye: “…”
“Why should I?”
No sooner had he asked than Gu Pei pulled a red booklet out of the drawer, as if he had already predicted the question.
He opened it and placed the inside page featuring their marriage certificate on the desk. In the photo, both of them were looking at the camera. Lin Xunye’s smile was stiff, while Gu Pei, though expressionless, had the corners of his eyes ever so slightly raised.
“We’re married, Xunye.”
“Pulling this move again?” Lin Xunye muttered under his breath.
Gu Pei’s hearing was excellent. He heard it all.
He put the marriage certificate away and slowly started eating the lunch.
Before he finished, Lin Xunye finally gave him the answer he wanted: “Fine, I’ll go with you. But you can’t reveal our relationship.”
Gu Pei asked deliberately, “What relationship?”
Lin Xunye had a dozen curses stuck in his throat. But looking into Gu Pei’s deep eyes, he couldn’t bring himself to say any of them.
He patted his chest, as if to calm himself, then leaned over Gu Pei’s desk with narrowed, dangerous eyes. “We’re legally married.”
Gu Pei nodded in agreement.
Then Lin Xunye continued, “But if anyone else finds out, I’ll dye your hair blue.”
To Gu Pei, this threat carried no real weight.
Still, he played along and pretended to be scared.
If Lin Xunye knew that Gu Pei sometimes wore blue wigs to clubs, he would’ve definitely chosen a different threat.
Seeing Gu Pei agree, Lin Xunye huffed and sat down, opening a mobile game.
Gu Pei glanced at his screen and suddenly asked, “You like playing games?”
Without even lifting his eyes, Lin Xunye replied, “No. I hate them.”
But he’d forgotten to mute his phone and the loud “ALL TROOPS, ATTACK” echoed through the office.
Gu Pei looked at him with a judgmental expression like he had caught a child lying. When Lin Xunye tried to explain, Gu Pei just sighed and went back to reading.
That whole exchange left Lin Xunye deflated. He stuck out his red tongue to moisten his dry lips, glared at Gu Pei, mouthed “idiot,” then refocused on the game.
He had to finish. Going AFK would cost him reputation points.
He was a rep addict.
Twenty minutes later, the match ended. Ignoring the desperate pleas of Xu Qian in the team chat, he immediately logged off.
He swore if he ever played with Xu Qian again, he’d be a dog.
His lips were dry from not drinking anything. Just as he was about to go buy a cold drink, he saw a cup of steaming red tea on the desk.
He looked at Gu Pei with suspicion, but the man was still calmly reading documents. Noticing his gaze, Gu Pei closed the file and asked gently, “What is it?”
“You made this?” Lin Xunye pointed to the tea.
Gu Pei admitted, “Mm. Your lips looked dry, so I poured you a cup.” To prove it wasn’t a big deal, he took a sip from his own cup.
Convinced, Lin Xunye picked up the tea, blew on it, and finished it in one gulp.
Then he refilled Gu Pei’s cup halfway, and poured himself a full one. “Returning the favor.”
He poured too much and tea spilled. The only tissue box was next to Gu Pei, and instead of getting up, he leaned over to reach it.
Gu Pei didn’t move either. But he “accidentally” brushed Lin Xunye’s hand while pushing the tissues away at the same time pulling two sheets out and holding them between his fingers.
Lin Xunye kept groping for the tissues and, not realizing what happened, accidentally kissed Gu Pei’s fingers.
Only then did Gu Pei turn to him and say, “Need help?”
It was the first time Lin Xunye had kissed someone while fully conscious, and he froze.
Was that… his first kiss?
“Xunye…”
Lin Xunye swallowed hard, the tips of his ears turning bright red.
Gu Pei’s voice echoed in his ears, but for once, he didn’t retort. His feelings were complicated—he’d never imagined himself kissing an Alpha’s fingers.
What was more shocking was… he didn’t hate it.
He might’ve even wanted to do it again.
He swallowed the extra saliva in his mouth and irritably pushed his hair behind his ears. “You should wash your hands.”
Gu Pei’s hand, mid-page-turn, paused. He instinctively rubbed the paper.
Tough mouth… just like in my dreams.
After accidentally kissing Gu Pei, Lin Xunye had no desire to stay any longer.
Even if there were a gaming console right there, he wouldn’t stay.
He finished the tea, got up to leave, but just as his hand gripped the doorknob, Gu Pei asked, “If you don’t want to reveal your identity, then what role are you going as?”
Gu Pei was fully prepared for Lin Xunye to say no. He even had a contract ready to slam on the table. But surprisingly, Lin Xunye answered seriously: “Secretary or assistant. Your driver even. But no one can know our relationship.”
After a long silence, Gu Pei replied, “Assistant, then.”
With that settled, Lin Xunye turned the handle. But before he left, Gu Pei added, “The room to the right is the lounge. Go rest. The assistant will bring your clothes later.”
Lin Xunye didn’t reply and walked into the lounge.
The bed in the lounge was as soft as the one in Gu Pei’s room. Lying on it, Lin Xunye couldn’t help but think of embarrassing scenarios.
Like during his heat… how Gu Pei’s cold fingers had roamed every inch of his body, how he’d pinched his ears and blown air into them on purpose, watching him tremble uncontrollably, biting his lip to keep from begging only to be thrust into an abyss by Gu Pei.
Though the memories were vague, fragments remained.
And over time, they were becoming clearer.
