The Unmarried Omega Falls into Being a Wife - Chapter 24
The woman was stunned, her eyes instantly turning red.
She stubbornly said, “Your brother treats me very well.”
Lin Xunye replied coldly, “I don’t have a brother.”
Xu Qian added, “That Lin bastard isn’t a real brother. If he truly saw Xunye-ge as his little brother, he wouldn’t have locked him in that”
Lin Xunye shot him a glare, silencing Xu Qian.
When Lin Xunye was younger, Lin Youjia had treated him even worse.
Back then, in Lin Youjia’s eyes, Lin Xunye was nothing more than an unloved stray dog and naturally, stray dogs didn’t belong in nice places.
But the woman’s next reaction made it obvious she knew the truth. She softly said to Lin Xunye, “Can we talk over there? Just the two of us.”
Lin Xunye rejected her without hesitation: “No.”
He’d fallen for this once before.
When he was eleven, Lin’s mother had locked him in a room for an entire day and night because she said he played the piano poorly. No matter how much Lin Xunye cried and apologized, or promised to do better, she remained unmoved.
The next day, Lin Youjia opened the door, placed a steamed bun on the floor, and told Lin Xunye to crawl on his knees to get it.
He promised that if Lin Xunye did it, he’d convince Lin’s mother to forgive him.
Lin Xunye believed him.
But Lin Youjia didn’t keep his promise. Instead, he accused Lin Xunye of breaking the lock to steal food from the kitchen.
After Lin Xunye rejected her, the woman kept pleading, but he remained unmoved.
Before leaving, he gave her one piece of advice:
“Lin Youjia is not a good person. Think carefully about your future don’t try to drag others down with you.”
He walked out of the banquet hall and stood outside, staring into the distance.
Who knows how much time passed before someone touched the back of his head.
“Don’t move. I didn’t use hair spray,” Lin Xunye swatted the hand away and continued zoning out.
Gu Pei glanced at the spot that had been smacked, something flashing in his eyes.
The feeling… was exactly the same as in his dreams.
The evening breeze blew a lock of Lin Xunye’s red hair onto Gu Pei’s shoulder. Out of nowhere, Lin Xunye asked:
“Why did you marry me?”
Gu Pei looked at him deeply. Lin Xunye chuckled:
“I have no money or power just a decent face. You didn’t marry me for my face, did you?”
Even he found what he said ridiculous.
He continued, “Oh right, I do have some skills. I’m pretty good with my hands, but I doubt you care about that.”
“So… why did you marry me?”
“And the shares you gave me? They’re useless to me. This is just a contract marriage you don’t need to give me so much.”
“And also”
“Lin Xunye.” Gu Pei interrupted him.
“That’s what you deserve.”
“It’s your dowry.”
Lin Xunye opened his mouth, then shut it again.
After a long pause, he finally said: “I’m a guy.”
“You’re my omega,” Gu Pei said.
Lin Xunye: “…”
“I’m my own person,” he replied.
Gu Pei nodded. “Yes. You’re yourself first. And then my omega.”
Lin Xunye: No point talking to him.
The summer heat swirled around them. Lin Xunye felt sweat on his back. “Forget it. I’m going to bed,” he muttered, rubbing his face and heading off.
Gu Pei didn’t move.
Lin Xunye took a few steps and turned back. “Are you coming? Who’s going to drive if you don’t?”
There was no way he was getting in that driver’s car again. One more ride and he’d be checking into the afterlife.
By the time they got home, it was already midnight.
There were ready to cook ingredients for hangover soup in the kitchen. Lin Xunye fiddled with them for a bit, washed his hands, and went upstairs.
He’d had a lot of cake and alcohol. His head was throbbing.
But making food felt harder than climbing Mount Everest let alone soup. He figured he’d just tough it out. Maybe the pain would pass.
After he went upstairs, the kitchen door, left slightly ajar, was quietly opened again. Soft rustling sounds followed. A cooking tutorial video began to play at low volume, only to be muted the next second.
Normally, once Lin Xunye fell asleep, he was out cold.
But maybe because of the alcohol and the time spent in the night breeze, he couldn’t sleep at all.
The throbbing in his temples made even closing his eyes unbearable. The alcohol taste lingering in his mouth made him nauseous. He didn’t dare burp, afraid of throwing up.
He wanted to go to the bathroom to rinse his mouth, but his body wouldn’t cooperate.
Half dazed and uncomfortable, Lin Xunye stared at the door.
He suddenly hoped Gu Pei would come and annoy him that way, he’d notice something was wrong and maybe call an ambulance or carry him to the bathroom.
Five minutes later, the door actually opened.
Gu Pei had his sleeves rolled up. The top two buttons of his shirt were undone, revealing a broad, smooth chest rising and falling with his breath. In his right hand, he carried a bowl of ginger heavy soup Lin Xunye’s earlier failed experiment.
Lin Xunye blinked at him, confused why Gu Pei was there.
Surely, he hadn’t actually heard his inner cry for help?
Just as Lin Xunye was about to look away, Gu Pei raised his head and met his gaze.
“First time making hangover soup. Want to rate it?”
“Ah?” Lin Xunye tried to sit up, but lost his balance and slumped back.
Gu Pei reached out, catching him with one arm and pulling him close.
When he was fully awake, Lin Xunye hated leaning on Gu Pei.
He pushed back, but Gu Pei caught his hand.
“I can feed you, or you drink it yourself?”
His temple pulsing, Lin Xunye weakly punched Gu Pei’s chest. “What the hell is wrong with you?”
“I’m an adult I can drink by myself.”
Gu Pei stared at him with heat in his eyes, his slightly parted lips clearly ready to argue.
But Lin Xunye was too dizzy to banter.
Under Gu Pei’s quiet insistence, he took the bowl, blew on it twice, and downed it.
It wasn’t hot just warm.
When did his mouth become this tough? He’d just burned it drinking tea the other day.
The strong ginger taste chased away the alcohol in his mouth. The pressure in his head lessened.
“You’ve got some skills,” he muttered. “No wonder you’re the boss.”
Gu Pei took the bowl back. “That’s the first compliment you’ve ever given me. I’ll accept it even if it’s weird.”
Lin Xunye’s head ached worse now.
He swore if he ever complimented Gu Pei again, he was a dog. A little mutt.
With his head finally clearing, he remembered he still needed to wash up. He threw off the blanket and got out of bed. Halfway to the bathroom, he turned back, eyeing Gu Pei suspiciously.
“How did you know I wanted hangover soup?”
Gu Pei replied, “I guessed.”
Lin Xunye didn’t believe him, but didn’t argue either. He nodded and walked into the bathroom barefoot.
Water ran behind the frosted glass door as Gu Pei stared at Lin Xunye’s silhouette.
Slim waist, perky hips, long legs everything perfectly proportioned.
His gaze dropped lower. His expression turned serious.
Lin Xunye dunked his face into a sink full of water, not lifting his head until he was fully awake.
He’d developed this method after Lin Youjia once held him underwater as a kid. It was painful at first, but he’d gotten used to it.
The suffocating sensation helped calm him, keeping him from doing anything more harmful.
The bathroom door knocked.
Lin Xunye opened it with a toothbrush in his mouth. “What?”
Gu Pei’s eyes flickered. He bent down and placed a pair of slippers at Lin Xunye’s feet. “The floor’s slippery. Wear these.”
Lin Xunye frowned, confused.
After a moment’s hesitation, under Gu Pei’s unyielding gaze, he slipped on the slippers.
“All good?” he asked, turning to finish rinsing.
Gu Pei nodded, satisfied. “Yeah. It’s late get some sleep.”
Lin Xunye waved him off, ruffling his hair in the mirror.
His roots were growing out. Time to touch up the color tomorrow.
After a solid night’s sleep, Lin Xunye took a cab to a salon Xu Qian had recommended.
Apparently, the place was owned by Xu Qian’s online crush. They hadn’t met in person, but had exchanged info like career and hobbies.
Xu Qian swore he was a gentleman and would never stalk the person, so he asked Lin Xunye who needed a dye job anyway to scope out the place for any omega matching the description.
Lin Xunye was unimpressed. He didn’t want to be the one to kill his bro’s sweet fantasy.
But after Xu Qian begged him for an hour and promised to dig up Gu Pei’s pheromone profile, Lin Xunye agreed.
At first, he didn’t care. But then he realized if Gu Pei’s scent really was a secret, wouldn’t having it give him leverage?
So, deal done.
Before heading out, he asked Ge Yan if he should go back to black hair. Ge Yan just said: “Whatever makes you happy.”
With that blessing, Lin Xunye picked something bold.
After scrolling through social media, he landed on a flashy, 100% attention-grabbing silver.
He’d never gone for low-key colors before. It was always a choice between loud and louder.
The salon was small but in a prime location. He spotted it right as he got out of the car.
The stylist who greeted him was a man wearing a mask and hat. There was a faint ginger scent on him—not overpowering, but it reminded Lin Xunye of Gu Pei’s soup from last night.
He shuddered involuntarily.
As the scissors brushed past his bangs and red strands floated down, Lin Xunye froze.
The stylist’s deliberately muffled voice raised his suspicions.
He didn’t look away the entire time.
This person was… definitely off.
