The Unmarried Omega Falls into Being a Wife - Chapter 25
There was a strange sense of familiarity, but the person was too heavily wrapped up. Lin Xunye couldn’t just walk up and pull off someone’s mask. Still, seeing the hairstylist’s evasive gaze, Lin Xunye was 100% sure this person knew him and also knew people around him.
After paying, Lin Xunye walked out of the salon.
WeChat was filled with messages from Xu Qian, a few still loading slowly with images popping up one after another. Lin Xunye thought for a moment and replied with just one sentence.
[Lin Xunye]: Happy breakup.
Just as he put his phone away, it buzzed again.
Lin Xunye assumed it was more crying from Xu Qian and ignored it. Moments later, a call came through.
He glanced at the screen. The caller ID: Gu Pei.
As soon as the call connected, Gu Pei spoke up,
“You where are you now? I need you to come to the office. A driver will pick you up.”
Lin Xunye replied, “I’m not your employee. Why should I go to your company?”
Gu Pei paused for two seconds and rephrased,
“It’s about a cooperation involving the Lin family. I’d like your input.”
“Be right there,” Lin Xunye said and hung up.
Suddenly, something crossed his mind. He sent Gu Pei a message.
[Lin Xunye]: Send a different driver to pick me up.
Fifteen minutes later, Lin Xunye saw the assistant who came to pick him up and breathed a sigh of relief before getting into the car.
Admittedly, the assistant wasn’t as good a driver as Gu Pei, but still acceptable at least it didn’t make him nauseous.
As the car entered the underground parking garage, Lin Xunye spotted a familiar figure outside.
He asked casually, “Who’s that guy out there?”
The assistant glanced over and respectfully replied,
“That’s President Yu from Yu Corporation. You may not be familiar with him since you just got back, but he and President Gu are very close friends. When you two have your wedding, he’ll probably be at the main table.”
At the mention of a wedding, the assistant’s words suddenly poured out,
“Boss’ wife, when are you and President Gu planning the wedding?”
The question came out of nowhere, and Lin Xunye was caught completely off guard. He had never thought about it and he never planned to have a wedding.
For one, their relationship was strictly a business arrangement. If they held a wedding, it would just signal to everyone that the Lin and Gu families had formed a political alliance. That would only bring in opportunistic business partners trying to curry favor with the Lin family because of Gu Pei.
Lin Xunye had no desire to see that happen.
He’d be thrilled if the Lin family went bankrupt already.
But a century-old conglomerate like that wasn’t going down anytime soon.
As he thought about it, Lin Xunye couldn’t help but sigh.
If only he weren’t a Lin.
If only he were just an ordinary person.
A surge of nameless frustration ignited inside him. His expression turned grim.
The assistant, momentarily forgotten in the corner, glanced in the rearview mirror and suddenly had a flash of inspiration. Just as he was about to secretly snap a photo of Lin Xunye’s silver hair and send it to Gu Pei
Lin Xunye spoke coldly,
“We won’t be having a wedding. And stop calling me boss’ wife. My name is Lin Xunye.”
With that, he opened the door and got out.
“Ding”
Gu Pei enlarged the photo and saw Lin Xunye stepping out of the car with a scowl.
The silver hair softened his sharp edges, adding a tranquil beauty to his usual aura. Even with the picture a bit distorted, Gu Pei could still make out the slightly lowered peach blossom eyes.
Looks like his other half is in a bad mood.
And indeed, Gu Pei was right.
Lin Xunye walked straight out of the elevator and into Gu Pei’s office. He pushed the door open hard, marched up to Gu Pei’s desk, and slammed both hands down onto the surface his knuckles white from the force.
Gu Pei looked up, his nose brushing against a silver strand of fallen hair from Lin Xunye.
Yu Ji’s skills must’ve declined, he thought absently.
Gu Pei blinked, carefully taking in the transformed Lin Xunye feeling an uncontrollable joy stirring within him.
This version of Lin Xunye excited him even more.
He didn’t hide his gaze. Usually, Lin Xunye would have snapped back at him by now. But this time, Lin Xunye was too wrapped up thinking about how smug the Lin family would be if things went their way, to notice how Gu Pei was almost blatantly staring.
“You want to hold a wedding with me?” Lin Xunye asked through gritted teeth.
Gu Pei raised an eyebrow. His Adam’s apple bobbed slightly, as if he was gauging how serious Lin Xunye was being because the look on his face sure didn’t say he was happy.
As the silence stretched, Lin Xunye’s expression grew darker.
In his eyes, silence was equivalent to agreement.
Marriage was already breaking his bottom line.
If they went ahead with a wedding, that would mean letting Lin Gaoyuan have his way.
He would never give in to Lin Gaoyuan’s “past life theory”.
His pale fingers trembled slightly, lips about to move when Gu Pei suddenly responded first.
“I don’t have any plans for a wedding. Not for now. If you want one, we can discuss it.”
Upon hearing that, Lin Xunye immediately relaxed.
He pulled back his hands and collapsed onto the sofa.
Watching him, Gu Pei felt a sharp pang in his chest.
Out of nowhere, a long-forgotten dream surfaced in his mind
In the dream, someone whose face he couldn’t quite see stood across from him, holding a bridal bouquet. Lavender covered the entire venue just like the day they confessed their feelings for each other.
Everything was perfect.
But the words that person spoke were heartbreaking:
“I won’t marry you.”
“You don’t really love me. I’m just a tool for you people. Why can’t you just let me go?”
“I’m a person too. I’m not some emotionless beast.”
Gu Pei wanted to shout “No” to tell him he never saw him as a tool, not even once.
But he woke up before he could say a word.
The dream vanished.
And now, real life felt like an echo of that same dream.
Gu Pei closed the file in his hand and spoke half to Lin Xunye, half to himself:
“I won’t force you to do anything. You’re an independent person, and you have the right to choose your own life. I’ll never try to control your decisions.
And I’ll never hurt you.”
“That’s a promise and a commitment.”
Lin Xunye’s bad mood eased somewhat, but he still stubbornly retorted,
“How do I know you mean it? Alpha’s words are the most unreliable. If you break your word in the future, what then?”
“Then I’ll die for you.”
Gu Pei’s answer was completely unexpected.
Even though Lin Xunye had considered disappearing when things got too hard he’d never said so out loud.
That kind of talk was like a taboo.
It sounded so light, but weighed so heavy.
A sharp breath escaped him, and a flicker of unrecognized anger crossed his face.
He stood up, walked around the desk, and grabbed Gu Pei’s tie, yanking him forward.
“Gu Pei, you better keep your word. Don’t forget you still owe me one unlimited command. I’m not giving up the chance to watch you eat dirt.”
His grip tightened, but Gu Pei acted like he didn’t feel it he even leaned into the force and buried himself in Lin Xunye’s arms.
Startled, Lin Xunye let go. Gu Pei seized the moment to grasp his hand, twisted his wrist slightly and Lin Xunye lost his balance and fell into his arms.
Gu Pei wrapped his arms around him, and for a brief moment, they looked like a real married couple.
After a while, Gu Pei asked,
“When’s your next heat?”
Lin Xunye replied dryly,
“Not sure. Could be the fourth. Could be later.”
The tension disappeared. Gu Pei hummed lightly, his breath brushing against Lin Xunye’s gland.
“Do you need me to help you through it?”
Lin Xunye immediately refused,
“No need. I have inhibitors.”
As soon as he said it, his neck was squeezed.
Gu Pei’s voice was low and commanding:
“Inhibitors aren’t safe. I can help you no side effects.”
“A-Ye, you don’t want a repeat of last time, do you?”
Lin Xunye stayed silent.
He still remembered last time all too well.
He’d already been diagnosed with potential pheromone disorder, and the doctor had recommended finding an Alpha partner to reduce inhibitor usage. But Lin Xunye didn’t listen.
He had never planned to have a partner in his life.
But now, everything was spinning off course. Lin Xunye felt lost.
Was he really going to accept Gu Pei’s help?
They weren’t real spouses just partners in a deal.
Seeing his hesitation, Gu Pei reminded him:
“We signed a contract.”
“Clause 58 under necessary conditions, both parties are to provide pheromonal support. Failing to do so constitutes breach of contract.”
“A-Ye, this is your right.”
“Your right to command me.”
Gu Pei’s deep, magnetic voice was like a dull blade pressing against Lin Xunye’s heart never cutting, but never going away either.
Lin Xunye coughed, drumming his fingers on the table:
“You serious, President Gu?”
After all, Gu Pei had a good body. He needed an Alpha. They were legally married. No matter how he looked at it, it wasn’t a loss.
Gu Pei rested his hand fully on Lin Xunye’s waist.
“Dead serious.”
As expected.
Lin Xunye relaxed. The anger in his eyes had been replaced by calm. He settled himself on Gu Pei’s lap, letting him stroke his back like one would pet a kitten.
As if afraid Lin Xunye might change his mind, Gu Pei stopped, opened the recorder app on his phone, and asked again:
“For your future heats let me help you, okay?”
The word “future” was said too softly to catch clearly, but Lin Xunye understood the gist. He nodded without hesitation and said what Gu Pei had waited so long to hear:
“Yes, I agree.”
Recording saved.
In a good mood, Gu Pei gave him a pat on the back. Lin Xunye glared at him and jumped off his lap.
“If there’s nothing else, I’m leaving. I don’t understand the project contract anyway. Just handle it yourself.”
Then he paused, voice softening:
“Just don’t let Lin Gaoyuan benefit from it.
Otherwise… I’ll hate you.”
He opened the door almost bumping into the assistant with a tray of tea.
The assistant smiled awkwardly and quickly stepped aside.
“Mr. Lin, would you like me to escort you downstairs?”
“No need.” Lin Xunye walked quickly out of view.
The assistant stood there, head tilted, still trying to sneak a look inside.
Gu Pei knocked heavily on the desk, and the assistant snapped out of it.
He lifted a foot to enter only to hear another knock on the desk.
He looked up nervously, then backed out and closed the door, running off.
Gu Pei’s ocean-blue eyes darkened as he stared at the photo Yu Ji had sent from the salon of Lin Xunye.
Just then, Yu Ji called.
Gu Pei declined it.
Yu Ji sent a message instead:
“Tomorrow night. 8 PM. At the bar.
