The Unmarried Omega Falls into Being a Wife - Chapter 5
“Knock, knock”
“Did you sleep well?” Gu Pei stood at the door, holding a breakfast tray.
Lin Xunye put away the smile on his face and frowned. “Is this your place?”
Gu Pei put the tray aside and pulled over a chair to sit down. He propped his cheek up with one hand, his gaze casually resting on Lin Xunye. His damp hair fell loosely on both sides of his forehead, with one or two strands hanging in front of his eyes, which somehow didn’t look out of place.
“You weren’t feeling well last night, so I brought you back here.”
Lin Xunye’s expression visibly worsened. He clicked his tongue and just as he was about to thank him, he changed the subject, suspicion thick in his voice: “I was at the bar last night, how did you find me?”
His eyes narrowed, like he was looking at a culprit.
For a moment, he felt Gu Pei might be that blue-haired man, but he had no proof.
Unfortunately, he didn’t see Gu Pei looking flustered or evasive like he expected.
Gu Pei’s fingers clenched and unclenched, tapping the corner of his eye one beat after another.
Just as Lin Xunye was about to accuse Gu Pei again, Gu Pei spoke up:
“You called me yourself, remember?”
What…?
Lin Xunye furrowed his brows even tighter than before. Holding the cat in his left arm, he reached under the blanket with his right hand to search for his phone.
But no matter how he looked, he couldn’t find it.
Just before he was about to get frustrated, Gu Pei tapped his shoulder with a hard square object. “Your phone.”
Lin Xunye lifted his eyelids and looked sure enough, it was his phone. He angrily snatched it from Gu Pei’s hand with considerable force, causing Gu Pei to step back.
Before unlocking the phone, Lin Xunye glanced at Gu Pei.
Gu Pei was still standing by the bed, turning to pour out the tea from the teapot. Noticing Lin Xunye’s gaze, he even smiled at him.
Lin Xunye: Such an act.
He snorted and started thinking about how to get back at Gu Pei, but stopped when he pulled up the call log.
At the very top of the call log was a contact labeled “Neighbor Little Brother,” the last call made at nine PM the previous night.
“Neighbor Little Brother” was one of Lin Xunye’s few childhood friends.
Lin’s mother’s mood swings were infamous. When he was young, no one wanted to play with Lin Xunye.
They were afraid of Lin’s mother showing up at their door and the endless lectures from Lin’s father.
Before the age of five, the only “playmate” Lin could call his own was a stone at the doorstep.
When Lin Xunye was six, a family moved in next door.
From the adults’ gossip, Lin Xunye first heard about fortune-telling in his blank life.
Adults said: “The new neighbors moved in because the Gu family hired a feng shui master; it’s a treasure spot!”
“You don’t understand! It’s because their son showed potential to become an Alpha since childhood. You don’t know this their son was ‘haunted’ and the fortune-teller said moving here could reunite him with someone from his dreams.”
Lin Xunye was too young to understand the deeper meaning.
But he vaguely knew that someone his age who would become a playmate had moved in next door.
Lin Xunye turned off his phone and looked at Gu Pei with a scrutinizing gaze.
Gu Pei looked calm, showing no discomfort under the scrutiny.
Five minutes later, Lin Xunye gave up.
“You’re that little carrot head from back then?” Lin Xunye held the phone and asked.
Gu Pei smiled faintly at the corner of his mouth. “Mhm.”
The tone lifted softly, like a feather brushing across Lin Xunye’s cheek, making his ears blush slightly.
Lin Xunye forced himself to stay calm and asked again: “But Baidu says you’re 28.”
Lin Xunye was 27 this year, already considered on the older side among unmarried people in their circle.
Li Ye and Xu Qian were both 24, three years younger than him.
Gu Pei handed over the now-empty cup of tea, signaling Lin Xunye to take it. “That’s just some nonsense others wrote; I don’t know anything about it.”
He spoke lightly, but in Lin Xunye’s heart, it was a thunderclap.
What could be more outrageous than finding out your fiancé was your childhood playmate?!
Lin Xunye took a sip of tea to calm down. After a while, he suddenly said, “Tastes bad. Don’t make it next time.”
Gu Pei glanced at the empty cup and silently refilled it.
Lin Xunye curled his lips but quickly went back to his usual contradictory self. Gu Pei knew he had calmed down and cut straight to the point:
“When are we registering the marriage?”
The question came too suddenly, and Lin Xunye almost spat out the tea he just drank.
“No rush, we’re still young, what’s the hurry? And besides, your company’s busy, right? Haha.” Lin Xunye changed the subject to avoid it.
Gu Pei stood at a perfect spot. The right side of the bed was a floor-to-ceiling window; the sunlight was blocked by Gu Pei, so Lin Xunye comfortably hid in the cozy shadow created by Gu Pei without any politeness.
Since he already knew his fiancé was someone familiar, Lin Xunye stopped pretending.
This marriage would happen sooner or later anyway.
Might as well enjoy some benefits from his fiancé early.
Gu Pei wasn’t surprised by his response.
He had been about to leave when he got the call last night.
Seeing the number surprised him.
It had been nine years since that number last called.
The face of that person had already become blurry in his memory.
The Gu and Lin families had a neutral relationship not bad, but only acquaintances who nodded at each other.
After Lin Xunye went abroad, the families barely interacted.
Not long ago, Gu Pei announced he was going to arrange a marriage.
Many rich young masters and daughters flocked to him. Lin Xunye’s photo resurfaced in Gu Pei’s mind then.
Gu Pei didn’t want to contact Lin Xunye at first. He thought people who left once shouldn’t be hurt twice.
But strangely, when he was about to shred Lin Xunye’s photo, his hand turned and put it into an important drawer instead.
Gu Pei believed in fate.
Everyone in the upper class knew he was arranging a marriage but not why.
At that moment, Gu Pei thought, “Let’s meet. Maybe it’s him.”
Unfortunately, he couldn’t see the dream person’s face clearly, so he couldn’t perfectly match Lin Xunye to the dream.
But that didn’t stop Gu Pei from trying.
His heart told him this was the right choice.
More interestingly, his fiancé was actually the older brother who once took his wife’s certificate as a child!
Lin Xunye was dumbfounded when he left Gu Pei’s house.
Gu Pei’s reply to his delaying the marriage was just: “Okay, come find me when you’re ready.”
Then Gu Pei politely showed him the door.
He still remembered standing outside, when he turned to look back, Gu Pei’s flawless face had a red mark, and a small black dot on his clean nose.
Not quite a mole, more like a pimple filled with ink.
Lin Xunye’s heart was in turmoil.
He didn’t want to marry, but the situation clearly wasn’t up to him.
Lin’s father gave him no leeway, even threatening to destroy the organization he spent so much effort founding, and would belittle him with words like he was disgraceful in a past life.
Though the Lin family was fading, handling one person was easy for them.
Besides, Lin Xunye was still the youngest son; if his father said a few words outside, his reputation would be ruined, and the organization would collapse.
In the fast information age, reputation is crucial.
Lin Xunye didn’t care about others’ opinions, but he couldn’t risk the organization.
And his omega identity…
So annoying.
Moran Calligraphy Agency
Li Ye wore a brown long robe, holding a brush, chatting idly with Xu Qian.
Xu Qian: “Lin really won’t say why the marriage alliance. I’ve been so itchy all over these days.”
Li Ye: “Curiosity isn’t good. Go to the bookshelf in the back, grab a Thousand Character Classic and a brush, practice your calligraphy, cultivate yourself.”
Hearing this, Xu Qian burst out laughing.
“Lin’s been writing for years but still so… impatient.”
Bang the door was kicked open, interrupting Xu Qian’s words.
“Bro… what are you doing here?” Xu Qian’s eyes darted nervously; sweat appeared on his back.
Knowing Lin Xunye’s temper, hearing this complaint would surely earn two big slaps.
Lin Xunye had no reaction, just coldly glanced at him.
Li Ye continued calmly writing, each stroke showing grace.
Lin Xunye sat cross-legged on a nearby sofa, saying nothing, just watching the two.
Xu Qian, realizing his mistake, ducked his head to grab the Thousand Character Classic and a clean brush as Li Ye said.
For a while, only breathing and the sound of brush on paper filled the room.
The three stayed silent for an hour.
Before dark, Lin Xunye broke the silence: “Do you think I can become a Beta?”
Xu Qian: “Bro, do you want to be an Alpha instead?”
Li Ye stopped writing, silently covered Xu Qian’s mouth. He refuted Xu Qian’s words and gave a professional answer:
“It’s extremely risky for an omega to become a Beta; it requires removing the gland. Mistakes might mean a second surgery. Even if successful, 97% suffer lifelong side effects.”
“Besides, with current medical technology, 100% success is impossible. Even if you’re among the lucky 3% with no side effects, the pain of gland removal is unbearable.”
“Don’t even think about removing omega glands and implanting Alpha glands. That’s nearly impossible.”
Li Ye’s family was in the medical equipment business he had some knowledge but loved calligraphy, starting classes in middle school.
Lin Xunye joined two years later, in senior high.
With the thought of gland removal dismissed, Lin Xunye straightened and then slumped back down.
He really didn’t want to marry!
The room grew quiet again.
Li Ye finished a sheet and spread it on the floor.
Xu Qian leaned over to comment: “The character for marriage looks weird, why does it look like this? And this marriage thing is weird too.”
Reading further, Xu Qian saw Lin Xunye and Gu Pei’s names and cracked: “You’re writing a marriage document for bro!”
Lin Xunye: “…”
Li Ye: “…”
Xu Qian got two slaps for speaking out of turn and drove them both to eat.
Li Ye, sold out by Xu Qian, became Lin Xunye’s personal workhorse.
At the restaurant, Li Ye made a point to get out and open the door for Lin Xunye.
Lin Xunye, hands in pockets, didn’t hesitate and jumped out.
Had to save face for a good friend, after all, he just slapped someone.
The three walked to the restaurant, Xu Qian exaggeratedly swinging his arms in front.
Li Ye walked properly in the middle.
Though Lin Xunye wasn’t as flashy as Xu Qian, his lip piercing added a wild charm, and his fiery red hair was definitely cool.
Even standing still, he drew all eyes.
Under admiring or curious gazes, Lin Xunye put on his hat.
Like a monkey being watched.
Annoying.
At the restaurant entrance, Lin Xunye suddenly heard a familiar and extremely hated voice.
And the emotional pheromones wafting out made him sick to his stomach.
Suddenly, Lin Xunye wondered what Gu Pei’s pheromone smelled like.
An Alpha like him should smell like fir or cypress, matching a first impression.
Definitely not this disgusting smell.
