- Chapter 9 - Daylight Raid on the Wife’s House
Lin Xunye stiffly turned his head and met Gu Pei’s teasing gaze.
Damn it, this bastard tricked me.
Lin Xunye turned off his phone and threw it backward. It landed squarely on the soft cushion in the back seat.
He got out of the car, slammed the door shut, and extended a fist through the car window, waving it three times in Gu Pei’s line of sight before turning around with flair and striding upstairs.
Even after Lin Xunye had gone upstairs for a while, Gu Pei still hadn’t left.
His fingertips brushed over the dangling passenger seatbelt. Gu Pei’s gaze darkened.
There seemed to be a faint scent of whipped cream in the car…
Holding back his frustration, the first thing Lin Xunye did upon returning home was sleep.
He hadn’t slept well that morning, so he figured it was the perfect time for a nap.
Lin Xunye slept deeply. Back when he was working three jobs a day overseas, it took five alarms to get him out of bed.
Even so, he was always the first to start and the last to finish.
He did have some morning temper, but not much.
As long as no one bothered him with nonsense like “Alpha supremacy, Omega inferiority,” he generally kept his cool.
Unfortunately, Father Lin clearly hadn’t realized that.
At 8 PM, Lin Xunye was awakened by a phone call.
His head buried in his pillow, his hand groped out from under the blanket, fumbling on the nightstand until it found the phone. He answered.
“Yeah?”
Father Lin, who usually preached endlessly, was surprisingly gentle and flattering this time:
“Xiao Ye, bring President Gu home tomorrow. I have something important to discuss with him.”
Lin Xunye didn’t respond much, but Father Lin was persistent, repeatedly reminding him not to hang up.
After a few more personal words, Lin Xunye still hadn’t replied. Father Lin seemed annoyed and grew impatient.
Lin Xunye turned over in bed and opened one eye to glance at the stars outside the window.
“Something important, huh?”
Father Lin thought his son had taken the hint and said excitedly,
“Yes, it concerns the survival of the Lin Corporation!”
Lin Xunye gave a silent, cold laugh.
“Fine. Just wait, then.”
What’s the use of surviving by selling off your son?
You’ll lose it all sooner or later anyway.
He hung up and slept until noon the next day.
The next day, Lin Xunye got out of bed feeling utterly exhausted.
He almost fell flat on his face getting up.
Holding his waist, he staggered to the kitchen and poured himself a glass of cold water. After drinking, he finally felt a little more awake.
After hanging up last night, Lin Xunye had the longest dream he’d had in two months.
The dream was still of the vast lavender fields, and the main character was the same blue-haired boy.
But this time, it didn’t end after the boy said, “Brother, I like you.”
It kept going.
In the dream, the boy led Lin Xunye step by step into a small cabin. It was Lin Xunye’s first time seeing the cabin’s interior.
It was clean and tidy, and apart from the bed, there was nothing else.
The boy smiled and pulled Lin Xunye to sit at the edge of the bed.
Lin Xunye wanted to speak, but his mouth wouldn’t open.
This lasted until the boy leaned in and kissed him.
His tightly closed lips parted slightly under the kiss, allowing the boy to slip in. Oxygen was taken from his chest, and Lin Xunye couldn’t breathe, his mind going blurry.
He tried to push the boy away but couldn’t manage it.
Finally, the boy let him go.
The boy whispered something in his ear, but Lin Xunye couldn’t hear it clearly. He grabbed the boy’s shoulders, trying to understand, but his hands were restrained.
In a flash, their positions reversed.
The boy pinned Lin Xunye to the bed. He didn’t use much force, yet Lin Xunye couldn’t escape.
As the boy leaned down again the dream ended.
Sitting with his legs apart, playing with the now empty glass, Lin Xunye muttered to himself.
Was he possessed?
And what a weird ghost it was. If he could remember the boy’s face, he’d definitely post a bounty and hunt him down.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t remember.
He made a mental note to see a Taoist priest sometime and get rid of that pervert ghost.
And that damn Alpha… One day, he was going to tie him up and beat him.
The door lock clicked, and Gu Pei stepped in holding an umbrella.
Lin Xunye turned and met eyes with the man delivering lunch.
Lin Xunye frowned.
“This is my house. Where’d you get a key?”
Gu Pei replied calmly,
“From your dad.”
Lin Xunye: “…”
Heh.
The lunch was made by the housekeeper from Gu Pei’s family beautifully presented and delicious. Lin Xunye wasn’t about to pass up a chance to take advantage of it.
He wolfed down a few bites before the sound of wiping caught his attention.
Looking up, he saw Gu Pei wiping the table with a neatly folded handkerchief. Lin Xunye instantly got annoyed.
He snatched the handkerchief, wiped the table roughly a few times, then showed it to Gu Pei.
“Look closely. Your daddy’s table is clean enough to eat off of!”
He almost said it could be licked but caught himself just in time. That’d just dig a pit for himself.
He didn’t have a table-licking fetish.
Hand held high, Lin Xunye watched as Gu Pei easily pressed it down.
“Eat. Cold food’s bad for your stomach.”
Lin Xunye crossed his arms and leaned back in his chair, refusing to eat—deliberately defying him.
“I like cold food.”
Gu Pei rolled up his sleeves and mimicked Lin Xunye’s pose.
“Then I’ll eat cold food too.”
Lin Xunye glared at him, then dropped his arms and picked up his chopsticks.
Copycat.
But Gu Pei wasn’t just there to eat.
He had been enjoying himself at a bar the night before when his phone rang.
He ignored it. Then a text came in.
Apparently, their marriage license had been leaked by Lin’s father to Gu’s father. Gu’s dad, who hadn’t known about it, now demanded to meet Lin Xunye.
Gu Pei refused.
Gu’s father gave him an ultimatum: bring Lin Xunye to the Gu house, or go to the Lin house his choice.
Gu Pei knew what kind of man Lin’s father was. If they went to the Lin house, it’d be chaos.
Still… he wanted to tease Lin Xunye a little.
“We’re going to the Lin house today. Need to bring anything?” Gu Pei asked casually, as if it were just any normal day.
Lin Xunye’s stretch froze mid-air. He turned stiffly.
“I’ll give you three seconds to get out of my house.”
Gu Pei stood still. The pressure from his tall, imposing frame didn’t faze Lin Xunye. Lin flexed his wrists, took a step back.
“You leaving on your own, or should I help?”
Gu Pei replied,
“Come with me.”
Lin Xunye let out a short laugh but thought of the Lin family’s faces and didn’t lash out.
“I’m not going back. If you want to go, go alone.”
Gu Pei held firm.
“Then come with me to the Gu house.”
Lin Xunye: “…”
Are you serious? Can’t get out of this either way?
He turned to retreat to his bedroom for peace and quiet, but Gu Pei grabbed his arm.
Gu Pei softened,
“Consider it a favor. I owe you one, okay?”
Despite the softened tone, Gu Pei’s energy didn’t come off weak in fact, he was clearly holding back a dominant aura.
Gu Pei’s humility was rare and strange to Lin Xunye.
“Really?”
Still holding his arm, Gu Pei nodded,
“Really.”
Lin Xunye rested his chin on his hand, thinking hard.
It seemed like he had two choices but really, only one path was available.
Still, Gu Pei wouldn’t force him.
He would make Lin Xunye willingly choose.
Gu Pei added,
“As a reward, you can order me to do anything just once.”
That sounded too good to be true.
Lin Xunye raised a brow.
“Swear it’s real.”
Gu Pei said without hesitation,
“I swear.”
Lin Xunye: “Deal.”
Regret came quickly after impulse.
Standing before the Gu family’s front gate, Lin Xunye stared at the sign:
“No dogs or red haired individuals allowed.”
He laughed sarcastically.
“Your dad dragged me here just to see this?”
Gu Pei looked awkward.
He flipped the sign over and explained,
“Red Hair is a stray cat. He and my dad’s corgi were… close. My dad saw something he couldn’t handle. So he put up that sign.”
Lin Xunye raised an eyebrow.
“You also went against something by liking me.”
Considering how he dressed when they met, Gu Pei must need an eye exam for falling for him.
He only hoped the Lin family would collapse soon, so he could get a divorce.
But Gu Pei didn’t laugh at the joke. Instead, the usual smile on his face vanished and was replaced by seriousness.
“You’re amazing,” he said firmly.
Lin Xunye stopped responding and pushed the door open.
The Gu home was decorated entirely differently from the Lin home.
The Gu residence had a fresh, elegant aesthetic like a serene paradise. Compared to that, the Lin house looked like a nouveau riche explosion.
Upon entering the living room, Lin Xunye was greeted not by Gu’s father but by a chubby, round-butted corgi.
The corgi barked excitedly and dashed toward the door.
Before it could leap out, Lin Xunye scooped it up.
“Looking for Red Hair again?”
Gu Pei chuckled behind him.
Hearing it, Lin Xunye turned and stuck out his tongue.
A soft pink flash. A brief moment, like a passing bloom.
Gu Pei composed himself and stared at him quietly.
The corgi barked twice, craning its neck to look past Gu Pei.
When it didn’t see the familiar cat shadow, it quieted down and struggled to be let go.
Lin Xunye couldn’t figure out what it wanted.
Gu Pei helped,
“Xiao Huang wants down.”
Lin Xunye glared.
“I know.”
Xiao Huang ran straight to Gu’s father, barking the whole way.
Gu’s dad had just come down the stairs and was nearly tripped by the dog. He caught himself, picked up the corgi, and greeted Lin Xunye from afar:
“Welcome home. The tea’s already brewed.”
Whatever cool, edgy greeting Lin Xunye had prepared went out the window. That line was so unique it stunned him.
What an odd way to say hello.
And wasn’t this their first meeting? Why say “welcome home”?
Still stunned, Lin Xunye felt Gu Pei take his hand and whisper beside him,
“Just pretend to be a loving couple. Not asking much, right?”
Lin Xunye gave him a fake smile, pulled his hand free, and went up to hug Gu’s dad.
He’d rather be Gu’s father’s real son than fake being Gu Pei’s loving husband.
Lin Xunye’s enthusiasm was like a fire it ignited Gu’s dad instantly.
After a few symbolic “Dad”s, the floodgates opened.
“‘Dad’” seemed to trigger Gu’s father’s storytelling powers.
He sat Lin Xunye down and began recounting Gu Pei’s life.
From academic achievements to extracurricular awards, math competitions, elite college admissions, elementary craft prizes, and even the title of university heartthrob Gu’s dad laid it all out.
To Lin Xunye, though, it sounded like this overachieving Alpha spaceship did nothing but win awards all day.
Gu’s dad finally paused to drink some water and realized he’d been talking too long.
He turned to Lin Xunye.
“Good child, do you have any questions?”
Lin Xunye exchanged a mischievous look with Gu Pei and asked:
“How many times has Gu Pei been in love?”
