The Unreturnable Refrigerator - Chapter 25.2
Chapter 25.2
Sheng Xiali only had one thought: to kiss her.
But she couldn’t…
Sheng Xiali looked away, hiding the darkness in her eyes. She couldn’t. Although this place was a little far from the school, there were still people coming and going.
She took a step back and agreed to Lu Yin’s request: “Okay.”
She would watch the road for her.
Lu Yin had leaned forward, intending to quickly steal a kiss from Sheng Xiali, but the other person was too alert. Lu Yin was a little disappointed, but she quickly became happy again.
She continued to walk backward, watching Sheng Xiali, and chatting with her about the interesting things that had happened today.
They were just ordinary things, but Sheng Xiali felt that as long as Lu Yin was the one telling them, even the most ordinary things were very interesting.
She listened quietly, following Lu Yin’s steps forward. When she drifted off course, she would pull her back and correct her, bringing her back to the center of the road, also being wary of people who might bump into Lu Yin from behind.
Every time she took Lu Yin’s hand to avoid an obstacle, Lu Yin would always smile and say to her: “I love you the most.”
…
Her fingertip felt hot. Sheng Xiali bent her finger and came back to her senses, looking down. A cigarette was about to burn out.
The spark had burned her fingertip.
Sheng Xiali pulled her hand back, put out the cigarette, and lit another one. She continued to look at the road by the river, which was now very different from her memory. Now, both sides of the road were covered in blooming flowers.
Unlike the past, when there was only a row of willow trees by the river.
Sheng Xiali had even been asked by Lu Yin to take a very silly photo in front of one of the weeping willows.
It was a pose Lu Yin had specified, and she had also coached her on the smile.
Lu Yin had kept that photo. Later, after they rented an apartment after graduation, she happily put it out.
It was in the most prominent spot on the cabinet by the bed.
She said that when she woke up, she could see it, and even if Sheng Xiali had left for work early, she could still say “good morning” to “her.”
Lu Yin hadn’t taken that photo with her when she left.
Now, by her bed, there was a photo of another person.
She had told her seriously that it was the person she liked.
Thinking of those serious eyes, as if she was afraid she wouldn’t believe her, Sheng Xiali’s gaze rippled as she forcefully pressed down on the constantly tearing wound in her heart.
Lu Yin probably didn’t know that she was a terrible liar.
The only people who could be fooled by her were those who were willing to be fooled.
Sheng Xiali stood up, bent down, and put out the cigarette.
She looked up again at the promenade that was still there but was no longer the same, then turned and went back to the master bedroom.
The person in the bedroom was sleeping soundly. Sheng Xiali walked directly to the bed, took the photo frame from behind the books, and took a picture.
She left the bedroom, went back to the balcony, and sat down. Sheng Xiali sent the photo to Cheng Siyu.
Cheng Siyu was surprised to receive a message from Sheng Xiali. Usually, she was the one who sought out Sheng Xiali. Sheng Xiali wouldn’t contact her unless it was something urgent.
She looked at the photo Sheng Xiali had sent and didn’t understand why she would be asking about this person.
She looked at it carefully, trying hard to remember. Just as she was about to reply, Sheng Xiali, unable to wait, called her with a voice call.
She only said she didn’t know her, and Sheng Xiali thanked her and hung up.
The efficiency was extremely high, and she seemed to be in a hurry.
Was this someone very important?
Wait, could it be the person Sheng Xiali liked?
Cheng Siyu looked at the photo on her phone. Sheng Xiali liked this type? No wonder she didn’t like Song Xinlei. They were two completely different types. The person in the photo was the cute, energetic kind.
Yang Sanhao was also surprised when she received Sheng Xiali’s call and heard her request.
“You want Yang Beibei’s WeChat? What are you going to do?”
Yang Sanhao frowned. Sheng Xiali was actually asking for someone’s WeChat. The sun must have risen from the west. And she was asking for Yang Beibei’s WeChat.
“She’s Lu Yin’s friend,” Yang Sanhao reminded Sheng Xiali. She shouldn’t be greedy and want what was in someone else’s bowl when she already had something in her own. Although Sheng Xiali didn’t seem like that kind of person to her.
“I need to ask her about something related to Lu Yin.” Sheng Xiali said this while lighting the last cigarette in Lu Yin’s cigarette case.
Yang Sanhao raised an eyebrow, surprised by Sheng Xiali’s honesty. She also felt a little confused. Why was she suddenly so invested? The progress was incredibly fast. The power of love. Sheng Xiali was even taking a roundabout approach now.
She pushed Yang Beibei’s WeChat to her.
Yang Beibei was the third person to be shocked by Sheng Xiali. She couldn’t believe that Sheng Xiali had sent her a friend request. Seeing the note that said “urgent matter,” Yang Beibei quickly accepted.
When she saw the photo Sheng Xiali had sent, Yang Beibei was stunned.
She didn’t see Sheng Xiali as someone who would be a fan or like to nurture a young idol. It was truly surprising that they were fans of the same person.
She was about to ask Sheng Xiali if she also liked her little fish.
But the other person sent a message first.
“Hello, do you know the person in the photo?”
Yang Beibei smiled. Of course, she knew her. She had just replied “I know,” and before she could finish typing the next sentence, Sheng Xiali’s voice call came in.
Yang Beibei was a little unaccustomed to having a voice call with someone she wasn’t very familiar with, but she was curious about what Sheng Xiali wanted to do with the photo she had sent. She took a deep breath and answered.
“Sorry to bother you. I want to know about the person in the photo. Is she your friend?”
Okay, so Sheng Xiali wasn’t a fan, and she didn’t know her little fish at all. She would love to be friends with her idol, but unfortunately, there was a distance.
Although Sheng Xiali didn’t know her idol, she seemed interested. Yang Beibei started to recommend her enthusiastically.
If Sheng Xiali, a person whose financial power didn’t seem ordinary, joined them, wouldn’t it be more advantageous to vote and rank up her little fish? Her little idol’s ranking could be higher.
After Sheng Xiali listened patiently, she asked: “Does Lu Yin also like her?”
Yang Beibei smiled: “Hehe, I dragged her to vote for her. Yinyin’s luck is really good. She even won a big prize. Oh, I remember now, the photo you just sent is one of the prizes, and there’s a cup. Oh, and a pillow. The pillow is with me.”
Lu Yin had wanted to give it to her, but Yang Beibei couldn’t refuse and ended up taking the pillow. It was a symbol of her invincible good luck. She had wanted Lu Yin to keep all of them, but Lu Yin said the pillow took up too much space.
Sheng Xiali listened quietly and slowly exhaled a puff of smoke, watching it slowly dissipate.
…
Night fell, and the lights in the houses lit up one by one. The riverside also became lively.
Lu Yin was woken up by hunger.
Her mind was still groggy when she woke up. Moving made her muscles even more sore, which made her feel like she had been sleeping for a century.
She had slept so long that her body felt numb.
Lu Yin sat up, supporting herself with her sore, numb hands. Just as she was about to turn on the light, the master bedroom door opened, and the light from outside rushed in.
The next second, their eyes met, and silence fell.
Lu Yin came back to her senses, looked at Sheng Xiali at the door, and frowned.
No, why was this person still here?!
And the way she opened the door and came in, how could she be so natural, as if she were in her own home…
She hadn’t even knocked, had she?
Sheng Xiali looked at the person who had woken up, stopped in her tracks, and hid the thermometer in her hand behind her. She glanced at Lu Yin, then turned and left, closing the door.
The room fell into darkness again.
Lu Yin: ???
What was going on? Why did she leave as soon as she saw her? What was she originally going to do? What was she going to do while she was sleeping?
Lu Yin turned on the light and looked at her pajamas. They were intact, but she was covered in sweat and felt sticky.
It was so uncomfortable. Lu Yin had just tried to speak but found her throat was dry and couldn’t make a sound. She quickly turned to drink water, feeling like her throat was on fire.
She adjusted her pillow and sat up. Just as she was about to grab her water, she found that the cup and the half-bowl of porridge by the bed were gone.
Lu Yin frowned. Things don’t just grow legs and walk away. Thinking of the person who had just opened the door and come in so naturally, Lu Yin had no other guess. It could only have been Sheng Xiali who took them away.
So Sheng Xiali had never left?
Just as this thought popped into her head, the door opened again.
It was Sheng Xiali again.
This time, she walked in with a cup in her hand, with steam rising from it.
Sheng Xiali walked to the bed and sat down. She looked at Lu Yin, casually crossed her long legs, and spoke in a very natural tone.
“Drink some water. It’s a little hot.”
This was a little too natural…
Were they the kind of people who could casually bring a cup of water into each other’s master bedroom and expect the other person to drink it?!
Lu Yin looked at her and didn’t move. Enduring the discomfort in her throat, she spoke: “Why haven’t you left yet?”
Sheng Xiali heard the dry voice, raised an eyebrow slightly, and moved the cup a little closer.
“When you’re sick, you need to drink more hot water.”
Lu Yin looked at the steaming water that was so close to her eyes. It was too close. If she didn’t take it, it would touch her lips.
She had no choice but to reach out and take it. She was indeed very thirsty. After saying a single sentence, she felt like her throat was on fire. After a moment of hesitation, Lu Yin decided to moisten her throat first.
She blew on it and took a careful sip. Strangely, the water wasn’t very hot, at least not as hot as it looked, but the cup was very hot, as if it had just been scalded with boiling water.
She swallowed a mouthful of water. Although it still hurt like she was swallowing razor blades, the dry, fiery feeling was much better, and she was even thirstier.
Lu Yin started drinking in small sips, like a person who had crossed a desert without a drop of water, drinking very sparingly.
Sheng Xiali smiled: “Drinking more hot water helps you recover faster.”
Lu Yin had a mouthful of water in her mouth, slowly swallowing it. Hearing that, she looked up at Sheng Xiali. She was wearing a mask, her hair was tied back, and the top half of her face was exposed. Her eyes were slightly lowered, and her gaze was fixed on Lu Yin’s face.
She used to say that often when Sheng Xiali was sick.
She was about to ask why she was still there when she heard Sheng Xiali speak again.
“Of course, looking at the person you like more makes you feel better, and you’ll recover faster.”
Lu Yin almost spat out the water in her mouth. She looked at Sheng Xiali’s narrowed eyes. No, when did she say she liked her?
She was about to retort when she saw Sheng Xiali leaning slightly towards her. Lu Yin’s heart skipped a beat. What was she going to do?
Under Lu Yin’s wary gaze, Sheng Xiali reached out and held the cup in her hand. With a little force, Lu Yin let go.
With Lu Yin watching, Sheng Xiali turned the cup around, showing the side with the pattern to Lu Yin.
Lu Yin was confused by her movements. When she saw the photo on the cup, she choked on the water she hadn’t swallowed yet.
She coughed violently. Lu Yin reached to the side, taking the cup farther away so she wouldn’t get her spit in it.
She understood! The person Sheng Xiali had just said she liked wasn’t her! She also remembered the conversation she had with Sheng Xiali before she fell asleep.
The person she liked…
No, where did Sheng Xiali find this cup?!
Lu Yin coughed so hard that tears were coming out. She felt a hand on her back, gently rubbing it. As soon as Lu Yin caught her breath, she quickly slapped Sheng Xiali’s hand away.
It was all her fault. Lu Yin looked up at her.
Sheng Xiali pulled her hand back and was also looking at her. Lu Yin didn’t know why, but even though Sheng Xiali was wearing a mask and her eyes showed no emotion, she had a feeling she was smiling.
What was so funny? Was it funny that she had someone she liked? Or was she laughing at the cup?
But this cup, it really was… At her age, having a cup like this was a little childish…
Looking at the cup in her hand, and thinking about what Sheng Xiali had just said, she didn’t expect her to tease her about this. It seemed she didn’t care that she now had someone she liked…
Never mind that for now. Why was this person still in her house?
Lu Yin was about to question her, but the person by the bed stood up. As she wondered what Sheng Xiali was going to do, she turned and left…
Her steps were large. Before Lu Yin could react, she had already left the bedroom and closed the door.
How long had she been asleep?
Why did the world feel even stranger after she woke up? What did Sheng Xiali mean?
No matter what she meant, Lu Yin looked at the light in the bedroom. It was already night. Sheng Xiali couldn’t stay in her house anymore.
Lu Yin put down the cup, got out of bed, and followed her.
As soon as she opened the master bedroom door and saw the situation in the hallway, Lu Yin stopped.
She took a step back, returned to the master bedroom, and turned to look around. Nothing had changed. It was her bedroom. She hadn’t traveled through time in her sleep.
She leaned out again and looked down the hallway. It was empty and clean.
Was this her house? Where were her things?
Had her house been robbed while she was sleeping?
No! It was Sheng Xiali! It must have been Sheng Xiali!
Where did she move all her stuff?
Could it be that she threw them all away?
