Chapter 15: This Seems A Little Too Intimate.
Fu Yi had been observing the person beside her, noticing her apparent curiosity about the gathered crowd. Since the line of people preparing to enter the Secret Realm was already quite long, she didn’t rush her.
She had not yet formed her Golden Core and didn’t have much spiritual power for keen observation, nor could she hear what the person far from them was discussing. She only knew they were likely talking about the Secret Realm, so she closed her eyes and quietly meditated.
But soon after, the discussion quieted down. Fu Yi opened her eyes again and saw the sullen-faced Mo Tong walking toward that area. She turned her head, and Jiang Jinheng’s gaze was also fixed on Mo Tong.
Fu Yi felt an inexplicable irritation, though she didn’t know why, and that was why she tugged at Jiang Jinheng’s sleeve. As the words left her mouth, Fu Yi realized her emotions were off. Just as she was about to say something, the other person replied with an apologetic tone: “Sorry, Junior Sister, let’s go get in line now.”
Saying that, in the next moment, Fu Yi’s wrist was grabbed, and she was pulled forward.
Jiang Jinheng led Fu Yi to the end of the long queue. The hand that had been holding her wrist had, at some point, shifted to her palm. They had only walked a few dozen feet, but where their palms met, it was already sweaty.
This seems a little too intimate.
Fu Yi used a slight force to pull away, her eyes unnecessarily scanning the surroundings. She listened to the people in front tirelessly repeating the Secret Realm’s precautions to every passing disciple, but her mind was preoccupied with how to shake off this big trouble beside her after they entered the Secret Realm.
After about a quarter of an hour, it was finally their turn. Jiang Jinheng performed a hand seal where others couldn’t see, briefly explained to the Elder that she was entrusted by Immortal Venerable Luan Qiu to guide her new disciple through the Secret Realm’s trial, and was quickly allowed through without any questions.
But Fu Yi noticed her small action and, after assessing the expressions of the people around them—mostly in a daze—she understood and couldn’t help but sneer inwardly.
She even knows how to use illusion techniques! I wonder if I was ever affected by her tricks before I awakened my bloodline in the previous life.
Although the Fox Clan was naturally proficient in illusion techniques, Jiang Jinheng’s cultivation was too high. If Fu Yi hadn’t known beforehand that she was approaching her under a false identity and been on guard, she wouldn’t have guessed what she had done to the surrounding people.
Thinking this, Fu Yi saw Jiang Jinheng hand her the wooden plaque they had received. She reached out, took it, and slipped it into her sleeve, but the next moment, her hand was clasped again.
Even though Fu Yi’s brow furrowed deeper, Jiang Jinheng pointed to the Dharma Curtain ahead and said with a smile, “Junior Sister, you must hold on tight to me. When we go in, we don’t know where we will be transported. It would be bad if we were separated right from the start.”
At her words, Fu Yi’s brow twitched. She stopped being passively led and instead held the other person tightly. However, the instant she noticed Jiang Jinheng relax her grip and they entered the Dharma Curtain, she let go.
Jiang Jinheng also realized something, turning back in surprise, only to find that the surrounding scenery had completely changed. She was already inside the Secret Realm.
007 was also caught off guard by the sudden situation. Before Jiang Jinheng could ask, it had already begun searching for Fu Yi’s location.
She is currently in a jungle about seven hundred li north of you. The area seems relatively safe, and the fierce beasts there are low-level.
Although she didn’t know why Fu Yi let go, hearing 007’s report, Jiang Jinheng finally felt a little relieved. Actually, ordinary fierce beasts in the Secret Realm shouldn’t be able to harm Fu Yi. She possessed the Nine-Tailed Fox Clan bloodline, and her birth mother seemed to be of the royal lineage. This clan was well-respected among the divine beasts. Ordinary fierce beasts, being unintelligent, wouldn’t harm her due to her bloodline’s suppressive power.
However, this Secret Realm was an ancient battlefield and the junction of the Human and Demon Realms, heavily polluted with demonic and baleful qi. It was unlikely that low-level fierce beasts here would be completely untouched by the demonic and baleful qi.
However, their separation was not entirely a bad thing.
Jiang Jinheng looked around. She seemed to be in a desolate wilderness, with no cover for a hundred miles around. Although it was difficult to conceal herself, she hadn’t detected any people with her observation technique. She sat down cross-legged, separated a wisp of her Nascent Soul (Yuanshen), refined it into a clone, and directed it to move in the direction 007 indicated to search for Fu Yi.
After doing this, Jiang Jinheng’s hand held a sheepskin scroll marked with various symbols. This was something she had just exchanged from 007 for fifty points of Aura of Destiny. It marked all the opportunities that certain individuals would obtain, including Mo Tong’s and Fu Yi’s, the ancient divine sword that Li Jingzhu, the future Sword Head of the Thousand Crags Sword Sect, would acquire, and the supreme Buddhist Dharma inherited by Zhu Qiu, the young Buddhist nun of the Azure Frost Hermitage… besides many others.
It was only after seeing these that Jiang Jinheng remembered that the new disciples of the various sects were recruited simultaneously and entered this Secret Realm at the same time. Those who would have many interactions with Mo Tong in the future might be meeting him at this very moment.
Jiang Jinheng noted the distances between the marked locations on the map. They were not far apart, mostly concentrated in the middle and southwest corner of the Secret Realm. The image on the sheepskin scroll could be zoomed in and out. When Jiang Jinheng zoomed in, she could also see the time when the listed magical treasures and inheritances were discovered.
After looking around, the timings all seemed to be staggered. Jiang Jinheng estimated that after she obtained the alchemical cauldron, she would visit these other places according to the timeline.
There was also a small moving light spot on the sheepskin scroll. According to 007, that was her current location, and the mark on the map would turn as she turned, making it easy for her to know exactly where she was.
Jiang Jinheng saw such a marvelous object for the first time, and her novelty inflated 007’s ego somewhat. If it were visible and had hands, it would surely be standing with its hands on its hips.
I told you a long time ago that I am very useful.
Having spent a few days with it, Jiang Jinheng was already used to its temperament and couldn’t help but tease: “That’s because the Aura of Destiny I earned is useful.”
At her words, she only heard 007 “harrumph” and said nothing more.
Jiang Jinheng put away the sheepskin scroll and held it in her hand. She walked toward the direction marked with the alchemical cauldron. When she arrived, she spread out the scroll again and confirmed that the red dot marking her location overlapped with the cauldron’s mark, yet she saw nothing.
This place was still a desolate wilderness, with no landmarks around for miles. If Jiang Jinheng couldn’t feel the spiritual energy draining from her body, she would have even suspected that she hadn’t moved an inch.
Suddenly, Jiang Jinheng seemed to have thought of something and looked closely at the sheepskin scroll again. Her finger traced the path she had taken. Between the two flat plains, there was a patch of not-so-small forest.
Jiang Jinheng recalled that during her movement, she did not seem to have seen such a scene.
An illusion? When?
Jiang Jinheng’s heart was instantly hoisted high. She looked around, much more vigilant than before. She was also mentally calculating how much spiritual energy would be needed to cast such an illusion, wondering about the realm of this unknown opponent.
007 also seemed to sense her tense atmosphere, grabbing surrounding data to assist with the analysis. But just then, the sandy ground under her feet began to sink. It sank deeper and deeper, and she couldn’t struggle free.
At this point, Jiang Jinheng calmed down.
“We seem to be inside the belly of a Teng Snake.”
