- Chapter 11 - Did She Drug Her with an Aphrodisiac?
Bai Xiaochen’s sword still hovered beside Bai Fenghuo’s face. Only now, upon suddenly noticing an outsider, did she realize her loss of composure. With a swift motion, she retracted her wrist, the sword’s cold glint transforming into a delicate sword flower before vanishing into her sleeve.
“And who are you?” Bai Xiaochen flicked her sleeve and stood with her hands clasped behind her back.
With the screen removed, Yun Chuanzhi finally saw Bai Xiaochen’s face clearly. Her gaze was immediately drawn to the ice-like floral mark between her brows, then to her slender, arched eyebrows that framed her narrow, phoenix-shaped eyes. Her nose was high and sharp, resembling the snow-capped peaks at the edge of a vast, frozen plain.
His lips were pale and tightly pressed together when silent, never revealing her teeth even when speaking. She exuded an icy, aloof aura, the complete opposite of Bai Fenghuo’s warmth.
“Reporting to the Sect Leader, this humble one is Cui…” Yun Chuanzhi began, dropping to her knees. Having spent only three days in the Qianyuan Realm, she had already mastered the sycophantic art of kneeling at every opportunity. But before her knees could touch the ground, she was abruptly lifted into the air, her words cut short.
A faint purple glow encircled her, whisking her to Bai Fenghuo’s side. Then, in a dizzying whirl, she was pressed down into the wide, red sandalwood armchair.
Bai Fenghuo stood gracefully beside her, not a strand of her hair out of place. “This little girl is my newest plaything. She’s no great beauty, but her virtue lies in her innocence. She’s remarkably obedient, doing exactly as she’s told.”
Plaything? Yun Chuanzhi lifted her gaze in confusion. Bai Fenghuo’s eyes were soft as water as she gazed at her, her slender fingers slowly caressing her shoulder, the tips tracing delicate circles.
The wound on her cheek gave her the allure of a soul-stealing enchantress—perhaps she truly was one, not only captivating souls but also capable of tearing hearts and lungs from their chests.
Yun Chuanzhi quickly averted her eyes, afraid to look any longer.
“Isn’t that right?” Bai Fenghuo said, turning and melting into the circular chair like boneless liquid, settling onto Yun Chuanzhi’s lap.
Caught off guard by being used as a chair, Yun Chuanzhi instinctively placed her hands on Bai Fenghuo’s waist. The moment her fingers touched the soft flesh there, she recoiled as if he’d touched burning coals.
“Isn’t that right?” Bai Fenghuo repeated, her smile still present, but her eyes visibly darkening.
“Yes,” Yun Chuanzhi quickly agreed, assessing the situation. She nodded and returned her hands to their original position, even giving her buttocks a couple of playful pats.
Bai Fenghuo felt the warmth beneath her waist, momentarily stunned. Two crimson plum blossoms bloomed on her cheeks, and a murderous glint flashed in her eyes.
Yun Chuanzhi quickly lowered her head and whispered, “Your jade pendant is digging into my thigh. It hurts.”
Bai Fenghuo fell silent. With so many beauties in the hall, why is this annoying little slave the only one available? she thought. She hissed, “Endure it.”
The sight of the two whispering back and forth struck Bai Xiaochen as lovers’ banter. Her pale face flushed crimson, and her fists clenched tightly. “Bai Fenghuo, you…”
“What about me?” Bai Fenghuo’s mood seemed to brighten at Bai Xiaochen’s anger. She draped her slender arms around Yun Chuanzhi’s neck. “You’ve known my character for years. Why act so heartbroken? It’s tiresome.”
“Fine.” Bai Xiaochen’s fingers drooped miserably, the marks where her nails had dug into her palms clearly visible. “I won’t interfere with your foolishness. But if you overstep and endanger Mount Everlasting, don’t blame me for abandoning our past ties.”
“Master’s dying wish saved you once, but it won’t save you a second time.”
With those words, Bai Xiaochen pushed open the door and left, her snow-white cloak billowing down the corridor. After a few steps, she dissolved into motes of light, vanishing into the dim twilight.
The last rays of sunset were swallowed by the mountains, and before they knew it, darkness had fallen. The scenery outside the window appeared as silhouettes cut from black paper, rustling softly in the wind.
The two sat embraced in the dimly lit room. To an outsider, the atmosphere would have seemed undeniably romantic.
“Get off,” Bai Fenghuo said, her gaze hidden in the shadows. Her tone was utterly languid, her expression unreadable.
“Yes,” Yun Chuanzhi replied. After struggling for a moment, she cautiously asked, “Would you mind getting up first?”
She, too, wanted to escape this troublesome place as quickly as possible. But with Bai Fenghuo’s full weight pressing down on her, where was she supposed to roll?
All she wanted was to finish her duties, return to her room for dinner, and go to sleep. Why was that so difficult? Yun Chuanzhi felt like crying, but no tears would come.
“Such a nuisance,” Bai Fenghuo muttered, scanning her up and down. She rose leisurely and raised her hand to light the chamber’s lamps. The brilliant light banished the dense darkness, restoring clarity to the world.
Yun Chuanzhi pushed herself up from the circular chair, standing motionless for a long moment.
Bai Fenghuo’s patience snapped. “What are you standing there for? Do you want me to wipe the floor for you?”
“Apologies, my leg went numb,” Yun Chuanzhi said with a wry smile.
Faced with her, Bai Fenghuo couldn’t bring herself to rage, laugh, or even kill her. In the end, she simply averted her gaze, refusing to look at Yun Chuanzhi any longer.
He had considered sending the demon far away—out of sight, out of mind—but feared she might cause trouble if left unsupervised. She had no choice but to enter the fray herself.
Yun Chuanzhi continued wiping the corner where the screen had stood. Now that the screen was gone, the entire bedchamber lay clearly visible. Bai Fenghuo had moved to the desk by the bed, where she sat with a jade-handled brush twirling between her fingers, her head bent as she copied something.
A night breeze lifted a finished sheet of Xuan paper, causing it to flutter like a falling butterfly’s wings before landing at Yun Chuanzhi’s feet. She picked it up and saw it covered in densely packed sutra text.
Bai Fenghuo’s calligraphy was bold and flowing, yet the characters were still discernible as the Great Compassion Heavenly Luo Cliff Heart Sutra.
Yun Chuanzhi had little interest in sutras and texts unrelated to cultivation techniques in the Qianyuan Realm. This particular sutra, however, had been forced upon her by that man, who had made her copy it a hundred times. As a result, she remembered every word perfectly. Seeing it now in Bai Fenghuo’s hands stirred a strange sense of disorientation within her.
The silhouettes of the trees outside the window had been distinct earlier, but as the spring night deepened, they merged into a single mass of darkness. The wind gradually intensified, causing Bai Fenghuo’s sleeves to flutter.
A knock sounded at the door. “Enter,” Bai Fenghuo called out.
The door opened, and Pei Xunqian, the Immortal Servant from earlier that day, entered. She carried a wooden tray cautiously, her steps slow and deliberate, as if afraid of spilling the soup it held.
“Sect Leader,” she said softly, “this is the Bitter Gourd White Jade Soup you requested. It’s been cooling for a while and is now at the perfect temperature to drink.”
Yun Chuanzhi, recognizing a familiar face, instinctively raised her hand to wave. However, Pei Xunqian merely glanced at her without acknowledging her gesture.
Yun Chuanzhi awkwardly withdrew her hand and resumed scrubbing the floor.
“Set it down,” Bai Fenghuo said, her eyes lowered, her hands never pausing in their work.
Pei Xunqian glanced at the soup in her hands, her expression troubled. “Sect Leader, the soup might get cold if left here. Perhaps…”
“Allow me to feed you,” she offered, setting down the tray. She picked up the bowl and knelt beside Bai Fenghuo, shifting her knees closer to her side.
Under the brilliant lamplight, the woman seemed to have enhanced her features with makeup, her beauty far more striking than during the day. The light pierced through her sheer gauze dress, revealing glimpses of her alluring figure beneath.
“Sect Leader…” Her voice, like the most melodious zither, sent bubbles of delight rising in Yun Chuanzhi’s heart. She abandoned her cleaning duties, crouching in the corner to watch the unfolding drama with rapt attention.
He never imagined that the shy and demure Immortal Servant from daylight could transform into such a bewitching seductress by night. Bai Fenghuo was truly blessed; with so many beauties of diverse charms actively seeking her embrace, it would be difficult not to succumb to temptation.
While Yun Chuanzhi was lost in thought, Bai Fenghuo had already taken the bowl from Pei Xunqian’s hands. After a brief, downward glance, she lowered her head and took a delicate sip.
Pei Xunqian’s face lit up with joy at this sight, but the smile quickly froze on her lips.
She slowly lowered her gaze to see a beam of purple light piercing through her chest. Her face drained of color, and before she could scream, the light erupted like dawn, shattering her body into a dazzling cloud of crimson mist, like the fiery glow of morning clouds.
Bl00d splattered everywhere, yet not a single drop touched Bai Fenghuo. She sat calmly, conjuring a handkerchief from thin air and meticulously wiping her hands.
Yun Chuanzhi, who had witnessed the entire scene, stood dumbfounded.
Bai Fenghuo smiled at her, then tossed aside the handkerchief and rose to her feet. “Come here,” she commanded.
Has she gotten carried away and decided to blow herself up too? Yun Chuanzhi wondered, cautiously approaching Bai Fenghuo.
In the flickering light of the wind-blown shadows, Yun Chuanzhi sensed something was off. Bai Fenghuo’s jade-white face was flushed crimson, and her eyes glistened as if they had just been rained upon.
Yun Chuanzhi stepped forward, picked up the bowl Bai Fenghuo had been drinking from, and sniffed it. Her body stiffened in shock.
“Joyous Union Powder?!”
Had Pei Xunqian drugged her with an aphrodisiac?
