The Villainess Is Pretending to Be Sweet Again Today (Transmigration) - Chapter 4
In the following days, Nuo Yang spent her time integrating her own life with that of the original supporting character “Nuo Yang” from the story.
The show hadn’t provided much detail about her character beyond inheriting 800 million in assets, so Nuo Yang relied on her memories to find her rented apartment—only to discover she actually had a roommate.
This roommate was essentially a sub-landlord, charging Nuo Yang 800 yuan per month for the smaller bedroom, which was already a great deal in this expensive area.
Soon enough, she received a call from HR informing her that her vacation was almost over and she needed to return to work on Monday.
What??
Was she, an 800-million heiress, still doomed to the fate of an office worker???
Nuo Yang initially wanted to call HR and boldly declare, “I’m rich now, I quit!” But after some thought, she realized Lawyer Chen hadn’t completed the legal procedures yet. Despite technically having 800 million, she couldn’t access a single cent. For the sake of survival, she decided to endure a little longer.
On Monday, Nuo Yang woke up early. Her roommate, who had returned at some unknown hour the night before, had left dirty clothes scattered across the living room. Without bothering to ask, Nuo Yang headed straight downstairs.
When she arrived at the company, she was pleasantly surprised to find it identical to the one where she had interned in real life—both in location and interior design. It was uncanny!
“Nuo Yang.”
The receptionist peeked out from the front desk and called to her as she stood marveling at the entrance. “The general manager is holding a meeting soon. Can you take these in for me?”
With that, she casually handed Nuo Yang a stack of documents.
Nuo Yang glanced at the materials and took them without hesitation. During her internship days, she had often juggled odd jobs alongside her regular work, so this was nothing new.
“What are these for?” she asked, eyeing the pile of magazines and newspapers curiously. “Are we researching something?”
“They’re for the latest topic selection,” the receptionist explained. “The general manager said our click-through rates across platforms haven’t been great lately, so he wants to discuss it.”
Nuo Yang nodded. In the world of self-media, click-through rates were everything. Recently, due to certain platforms restricting traffic, their numbers had been underwhelming, and the coveted “100K+” milestone seemed further away than ever.
After delivering the materials to the meeting room, Nuo Yang found her seat—!!—but before she could even turn on her computer, her team leader dragged her off to the meeting.
At this company, Nuo Yang was just an ordinary assistant, responsible for gathering and organizing materials, among other miscellaneous tasks. Essentially, she was a glorified errand girl with the title of “Intern Editor.”
As the other editors trickled into the meeting room, the general manager wasted no time getting to the point.
“Our recent topics have been too bland. Engagement is down compared to last week.”
“Web traffic has dropped too, and our visibility on platforms like Weibo isn’t great either.”
The general manager, a middle-aged man, spoke with visible frustration. “Let’s be clear—our department is just a subsidiary. If we don’t perform, we could be shut down at any time. I hope everyone takes this seriously.”
Facing the general manager’s incessant chatter, Nuo Yang wasn’t really listening, instead flipping through the newspapers and magazines in front of her.

Nuo Yang’s hand paused as she turned the page. The blurry photo published there indeed showed Long Huaichang’s  profile with a hat on, though her lowered head made her facial features indistinct.
This kid, why does she always walk with her head down?
Is she that afraid of being photographed?
“Nuo Yang.”
The general manager’s voice suddenly rang out as he stared at the distracted woman. “Do you have any good suggestions?”
“Huh?” Nuo Yang looked at him blankly, unsure what they’d been discussing.
The manager frowned. “What are you looking at? We’re in a meeting—could you please focus?”
“I… I was reading about the Long family,” Nuo Yang said awkwardly, feeling like a student caught daydreaming in class. “All the newspapers are covering their story now.”
Everyone presents naturally knew about it. The editor sitting beside Nuo Yang noticed the photo of Long Huaichang in her hands and remarked, “Huh, this illegitimate daughter would make a great topic—it’d definitely go viral if we wrote about it!”
Nuo Yang quickly set the newspaper aside. “Other media outlets must have already thought of that. Maybe we should choose a different angle.”
“What’s the problem? All the information is publicly available now. I think the illegitimate daughter angle is perfect.”
“Yeah, I agree.”
“It’s doable, but can we actually find any details about her?”
“Hmm… that might be tough.”
Seeing no consensus emerge, the general manager sighed. “Let’s wrap up for today. The Long family’s billion-dollar inheritance is indeed trending now, so drop all other trivial stories and focus solely on this.”
With the hot topic decided, everyone packed up and left the conference room.
Nuo Yang stared at the blurry profile of Long Huai Chang, wondering what the girl had been doing since leaving. According to her own account to the female lead, after her mother’s death, she’d been forced to live in a rundown basement, dropped out of school, and tried working odd jobs. But at sixteen, still underage, she couldn’t legally hold most jobs. To survive, she’d turned to crime, which eventually shaped her into the bitter, violent person she became.
Gazing at the indistinct photo, Nuo Yang felt a pang of sadness. This was actually a pitiful kid. Had things gone differently, maybe she wouldn’t have ended up dying in prison.
If I ever meet her, I should try steering her away from that dark path. Such a beautiful girl dying miserably in some corner is just too tragic.
Nuo Yang clipped out that report along with other Long family articles, pasting them into her notebook for reference.
Her first day at work had gone smoothly overall. This approach would probably help her integrate faster into this fictional world.
She just didn’t know when she’d be able to leave.
After putting in two extra hours of overtime and grabbing dinner outside, Nuo Yang headed home.
As soon as she pushed the door open, she heard voices of men and women inside. Upon opening it, she found several people in the living room, including her roommate, drinking beer and watching TV, the whole room reeking of alcohol.
Her roommate was a woman with short black hair. Nuo Yang wasn’t sure what she did for a living, only that she loved drinking and clubbing, often staying out all night.
The smell of smoke in the room made Nuo Yang uncomfortable. She nodded at them and retreated to her own room, turning on the air conditioner to freshen the air, which helped a little.
At first, Nuo Yang thought it was normal for young people to enjoy being lively, but she soon realized her roommate was exceptionally… active.
Especially active in changing bed partners.
In just a few weeks of living there, Nuo Yang had seen her bring home over a dozen different people.
Every night, she wouldn’t return until 4 or 5 a.m., and as soon as she did, the sounds of moans and creaking beds from the next room would start, leaving Nuo Yang constantly sleep-deprived.
That Saturday, Nuo Yang had hoped to sleep in but was once again awakened by the noise next door.
When she opened her bedroom door, she was greeted by dirty clothes strewn all over the floor and the slightly ajar door of the neighboring room.
Nuo Yang: “…”
She couldn’t take it anymore. She was moving out!!!!
When Lawyer Chen received Nuo Yang’s call and heard about her ordeal, he sympathized. After a pause, he said, “The inheritance from your great-grandmother is still being processed, so we can’t access much money right now. Could you hold on a little longer? It should be ready next month.”
Nuo Yang shook her head. “I can’t. I’ve already packed my things. I’m moving out today.”
Lawyer Chen glanced at the documents in his hand and sighed. “Aren’t you acting a bit too quickly?”
“If I don’t hurry, I might see something even worse,” Nuo Yang replied, sitting on her suitcase as she gazed at the neighborhood. “Does my great-grandmother have any local properties I could stay in? Just somewhere with water and electricity—I can eat out.”
“All of your great-grandmother’s properties are overseas. She only returned to the country in recent years and lived in a nursing home. She doesn’t own any local properties.”
“I see…”
Hearing the dejection in Nuo Yang’s voice, Lawyer Chen suggested, “Why don’t you rent a place for now? The first batch of paperwork should be done in less than two weeks. I know a short-term rental agency—I can give you their contact, and they can show you some options.”
Nuo Yang figured that was her only choice and agreed. After getting the agency’s number, she called them immediately. Upon hearing she needed a short-term rental, they arranged to meet at a nearby neighborhood.
The agent was quick. By the time Nuo Yang arrived by taxi, he was already there. After a brief conversation, they went to view the properties.
“Lawyer Chen just called and explained everything,” the agent said. “Do you have any specific requirements, miss? There are several available units in this area.”
Nuo Yang thought for a moment. “Ideally, something fully furnished and clean.”
The agent nodded and led her to one of the buildings.
Unlocking the door, he gestured inside. “This is a two-story duplex apartment with three bedrooms and two living rooms.”
Nuo Yang stepped inside to take a look. The house was indeed spotless, with brand-new furniture, but… why did it feel like someone was living here?
After walking around the room, Nuo Yang spotted a large box on the balcony filled with clothes and small items. Some of the clothes were still damp, tossed in along with their hangers as if they hadn’t dried yet.
What… was this?
Baffled, Nuo Yang asked hesitantly, “Sir, is someone still living here? Look, these clothes aren’t even dry yet…”
Before she could finish speaking, the sound of the door being pushed open reached her ears, followed by a spherical object whistling through the air—smacking the real estate agent square in the face and knocking him to the ground!
Nuo Yang froze in shock, watching as the black motorcycle helmet rolled twice across the floor before coming to a stop.
“Who are you?”
A familiar voice came from the doorway. Nuo Yang turned to see Long Huaichang standing there, his schoolbag slung over his shoulder and dressed in a dark blue uniform, his brows furrowed tightly. “Why are you in my house?”
Support "THE VILLAINESS IS PRETENDING TO BE SWEET AGAIN TODAY (TRANSMIGRATION)"
An absolute delight to read! Nuo Yang and Long Huaichang are absolutely delightful together, and their personnality are an absolute delight, they both lives their live fully, and it really does feels like a slice of life most of the time instead of the drama you would probably expect from this type of synopsis. Long Huaichang burst of jealousy are super endearing, she never goes too far with it and reading her cursing “This lustful sister of hers!” in her mind whenever Nuo Yang talks to a pretty girl is always a fun time.
If I had a slight criticism to make, it’s that Nuo Yang can be a bit too idle about their relationship once they start getting more romantically involved, but it’s overall a minor complain and I really had a great time with this story!
Thank you so much for your lovely feedback! I’m really glad you’re enjoying the story and their interactions. Thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts! <3
