The Villainous Scum Alpha Was Reborn (GL) - Chapter 1
“Hey! Are you okay?”
“Wei Ke? Wei Ke? Wei Ke!”
Chaotic shouting, mixed with pulsing music, surged like a flood. In her blurred vision, someone raised a hand. The music stopped abruptly. The colorful lights of the dance floor instantly changed into harsh white light, turning the entire room as bright as day.
From somewhere in the distance, a voice shouted, “Hurry! Take her to the hospital!”
That voice sounded familiar. It sounded like Jiang Ying, the same Jiang Ying who had already passed away.
“Jiang Ying?” Before Wei Ke lost consciousness, she used all her strength to call out the name. But her voice was so faint, no one heard it. Not even herself.
When Wei Ke opened her eyes again, it was already morning. A needle had been inserted into the back of her hand, connected to an IV drip.
That voice had sounded like Jiang Ying. And the woman by the wall, who also looked just like Jiang Ying, was now dozing off near the hospital bed. Her head bobbed up and down, making her look both pitiful and a little ridiculous.
“Jiang Ying.” Wei Ke tried calling her name again. This time she was sure she spoke out loud. The woman near the wall flinched and opened her eyes wide.
That proved it. She had definitely heard her.
Jiang Ying and Wei Ke had been best friends for more than ten years. Whenever they had time, they would hang out together. And most of the time, their hangouts happened at bars.
Even after so many years of drinking together, this was the first time Jiang Ying had almost let Wei Ke, who could usually drink anyone under the table, drink herself to death. The scare had sobered her up instantly, and she stayed by her side the entire night.
Now, seeing that Wei Ke had finally woken up, the tension in Jiang Ying’s heart eased. As she relaxed, her exhaustion showed clearly on her face.
She let out a long sigh and dragged a chair over to the bed. Sitting down with the dramatic air of someone scolding a loved one, she said, “Oh my god, I nearly died from the shock. What happened? Last night I really thought you were going to collapse and never wake up again.”
“You’re the one who collapsed. Wait a minute. Weren’t you already dead?” Wei Ke tilted her head, staring at the dark circles under Jiang Ying’s eyes. At the same time, a dull ache pulsed in her head and arm, reminding her that this was not a dream.
Jiang Ying was stunned by both her tone and expression.
A few seconds passed. When Wei Ke finally realized she had truly been reborn, she suddenly burst into laughter. Jiang Ying, still in shock, clutched her chest and glared at her.
“What’s wrong with you? I’m going to end up with a heart condition if you keep this up.” Jiang Ying rubbed her eyes and looked like she was about to cry.
“Nothing. Just a little drunk. Talking nonsense.” Wei Ke squinted as she smiled, clearly proud of her successful prank.
Jiang Ying opened her mouth and almost snapped back. But just before the words left her lips, she remembered how limp Wei Ke’s body had felt in her arms last night. It had felt like she wasn’t breathing at all. That memory left a sour feeling in her chest, and she swallowed the harsh words before they came out.
Wei Ke noticed her hesitation and realized she had genuinely scared her. She softened her expression and said quietly, “I was only joking. Don’t take it too seriously.”
“You always say that. So annoying.” Jiang Ying gave her a glare, held onto the chair for balance, and slowly walked over to the empty bed nearby. Just before lying down, she added, “We had to bring you to the closest hospital last night. The place isn’t great, but it was urgent. Just bear with it for now. I can’t stay awake any longer. If I don’t sleep, I really will drop dead. Whatever you want to say, let’s talk after I wake up. I’m done talking.”
Wei Ke gave a soft hum in reply and watched her turn over in bed. Then she stared at the IV bag above her and slowly drifted into thought.
In her memory, Jiang Ying was already dead. That fact was beyond question. It had even snowed on the day of the funeral. Wei Ke had worn a black wool coat and stood alone in the snow for hours. Her knuckles had gone numb from frostbite.
And just a few months later, she herself had been pushed off a cliff during a snowstorm. Her body had shattered from the fall.
Thinking back, a fall like that should have killed her instantly. There shouldn’t have been time to feel anything. But somehow, she had stayed alive long enough to experience unbearable pain. Her body had been falling apart, but she couldn’t die. Then a cold mechanical voice echoed inside her soul.
“Wei Ke, hello. I am System 880, assigned to villain rebirth support. According to system screening, you now qualify for one chance to be reborn. Would you like to accept this offer?”
At the time, Wei Ke was in such intense pain that all she wanted was to die. She couldn’t tell if the voice was real. She couldn’t even think clearly enough to respond.
To her surprise, the system spoke again.
“You have three minutes to decide. If you do not make a choice in time, your eligibility will be canceled. Please consider carefully.”
Then a countdown began. One hundred and eighty seconds. The ticking sound filled her head, loud enough to make her brain feel like it was splitting open. In truth, it already had. The pain doubled so quickly that she couldn’t even find the right words to describe it.
“If you choose rebirth, all your pain will disappear.”
That single word, disappear, became her last lifeline. Without any hesitation, she made her decision.
Strangely, the system didn’t lie. The moment she accepted, all the pain vanished. A feeling of weightlessness took over. When she opened her eyes again, she found herself standing in a bar.
Before she could process everything, her head became heavy again from the flood of information about the rules of rebirth. She passed out.
While her body was unconscious, her mind remained awake. She read through every rule, every term and condition, and even the system’s forced agreements.
That was when she discovered the truth. She wasn’t just reborn. She was now a side character in an ABO romance novel called Pampering for a Lifetime. And not just any side character. She was the villain.
The whole thing felt ridiculous. As the second daughter of the famous Wei family in City G, she was worth billions. She had looks, charm, and confidence. And yet she was nothing more than a paper-thin villain?
It was bad enough to be a fictional character. But if she couldn’t be the heroine, couldn’t she at least be the second lead? Instead, she was the villain that everyone hated.
It was probably a good thing she didn’t know who the author was. Otherwise, she would have found them and demanded answers.
With that thought in mind, Wei Ke tapped the system.
“880, do you know who wrote this terrible story?”
“I’m sorry. Your question contains restricted content. The keyword has been automatically blocked. Please rephrase your question.”
Wei Ke paused in silence.
Forget it. There was no use arguing with a system. Being able to come back to life was already a huge blessing. She needed to stay grounded.
Wei Ke silently tried to calm the frustration bubbling up inside her after being shut down. Just then, the system’s voice sounded again.
“You have a good attitude. This system appreciates that and has decided to give you a reward.”
As the robotic voice faded, her phone, which had been placed on the bedside table to her right, chimed. Wei Ke’s mouth twitched slightly. She turned to look at the cabinet, which was more than ten centimeters higher than her hospital bed, and reached over to grab the phone and check what this so-called reward was.
She really didn’t understand why a system that existed inside her mind would send rewards through her phone. It made no sense.
But as soon as she unlocked it, she froze.
The screen opened to the Notes app, which she hadn’t used in ages. At the top was a photo of Wei Huan and Bai Ruoya holding hands while shopping. Below the picture was a line of text that read: “The female lead will appear at the Wei residence tonight as Wei Huan’s girlfriend.”
In other words, the woman she hated most was going to meet her parents tonight.
But she clearly remembered that Bai Ruoya’s first visit to her home had been on September third. It was the eighth day of the eighth lunar month. Her parents had invited Bai Ruoya to spend the Mid-Autumn Festival with them the following week after they had dinner together.
She looked down at the date on her phone. Today was September third.
Her expression froze.
So what was the point of this reward?
“There is a point. If you avoid seeing her today, you will gain one point of luck and receive a cash reward of ten thousand yuan.”
“What if I don’t avoid her?” Wei Ke wasn’t impressed. One point of luck meant nothing to her, and ten thousand yuan was hardly a reward. A single pair of her shoes cost more than that.
“If you follow the same timeline and events as in your previous life, the main system will question the purpose of your rebirth. You will be punished accordingly. Punishment types include electric shock, car accident, drowning, fire…”
“Stop.” Wei Ke’s skin broke out in goosebumps. She was now completely certain that this system was not just warning her. It was threatening her.
“Once a punishment is triggered, it cannot be avoided. Please make your decision carefully.”
Wei Ke rolled her eyes and didn’t bother replying.
On the bed next to hers, Jiang Ying was still fast asleep. Wei Ke glanced at her and felt a strange mix of gratitude and annoyance. Those two emotions balanced each other out, and her expression looked unusually blank.
Fine. She would just take the deal.
“This system does not assign missions. What you received just now was simply a friendly suggestion based on admiration. Please do not misunderstand.”
Wei Ke covered her mouth with one hand. She honestly wanted to swear, but she held herself back, worried the system might take revenge.
Still, it didn’t make sense. A rebirth system without any assigned missions? That was too strange.
As someone born into wealth and comfort, Wei Ke had plenty of time to watch anime and read web novels. She was somewhat familiar with how rebirth systems usually worked. Normally, there were always missions to complete.
“Your situation is unique. You do not have…”
The mechanical voice paused for a second before continuing.
“If you must have a mission, then your goal is to live differently from your past life. If you are capable, try to live as if you were the heroine.”
The words if, capable, try, and as if made everything perfectly clear. This system had no ambition, and it probably didn’t think much of her either.
“This system is not lazy, nor does it look down on you. It has already exceeded its annual performance goals. Right now, it just wants to relax.”
Wei Ke pressed her fingers against the space above her lips and let out a long breath. She forcefully cut off her connection to the system.
She swore that if anyone like this existed in her business, she would fire them without hesitation.
After taking a moment to calm herself, Wei Ke closed her eyes and began sorting through her current situation.
In her previous life, everything started going downhill after Bai Ruoya showed up as Wei Huan’s girlfriend.
Now, she had been given a second chance and hadn’t crossed paths with that woman yet. Even the system had suggested she avoid meeting her so soon.
The system had taken back the novel after she skimmed through it, so she no longer had the chance to study it in detail. But she still remembered quite a bit about Bai Ruoya’s background.
This soft-spoken, manipulative woman—cough, the female lead—Bai Ruoya, had grown up in a wealthy home. But just before her secondary gender presented, when she was around seventeen or eighteen, her family went bankrupt.
The Bai family’s fall came fast. Her once-comfortable life collapsed. Her father, already in poor health after years of hard work, became severely ill under the stress and passed away. Her mother, who had long relied on others and lost the ability to support herself, followed soon after. Heartbroken and unable to cope, she died as well.
At that time, Bai Ruoya had only just differentiated and was still in school. With no source of income and no one to turn to, she had no idea what to do next.
As fate would have it, she met Wei Huan. The eldest daughter of the Wei family fell in love with her at first sight.
To Bai Ruoya, who was just a freshman, Wei Huan was like a miracle. She barely hesitated before accepting her pursuit. They began dating almost immediately.
From that point on, Wei Huan became Bai Ruoya’s personal bank account.
Remembering that part of the novel, Wei Ke felt a strong urge to curse the original author.
Still, to be fair, Bai Ruoya was quite beautiful. Her delicate and gentle appearance gave off the kind of fragile vibe often seen in literary characters like Lin Daiyu. Combined with the natural allure that came with being an Omega, it was no surprise that most Alphas would feel drawn to her.
When Wei Ke first met Bai Ruoya, she, as an Alpha, had a fairly good impression of her. She thought it was a rare and beautiful thing that her usually dull sister had fallen for such a gentle beauty. If they could end up together, it would be a good match.
But everything that happened afterward was so outrageous and unbelievable that her initial admiration shattered. That was when her feelings began to shift into resentment.
She remembered clearly that it happened during their second meeting, on the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival. The whole family had been celebrating because it was the first time Wei Huan brought a girlfriend home for the holiday. Everyone was in high spirits and toasted repeatedly. Wei Ke had drunk a little too much.
Unfortunately, no one remembered that she was entering her susceptible period that night. In the middle of the night, the alcohol in her system triggered an episode. Her pheromones spiraled out of control, and she was in unbearable pain.
While she was struggling to hold on, that woman somehow appeared in her room without anyone noticing.
The most ridiculous part was that, just as her consciousness was slipping, she smelled a distinct Omega scent. It was laced with something seductive.
Other than her mother, there was no one else in the Wei family who was an Omega.
Bai Ruoya.
The realization hit Wei Ke like a bolt of lightning. Her body was burning with fever, her eyes too heavy to open, but she still gritted her teeth and growled a warning.
“Get out.”
But for some reason, Bai Ruoya did not leave. Instead, she moved closer.
Tears streamed down Wei Ke’s face. The moment she realized what Bai Ruoya was trying to do, she pushed her away with all her strength. Her vision was completely blurred, so she never saw what really happened. All she heard was a sharp, piercing scream.
Then the door burst open. She heard the voices of her parents and sister. And the next thing she knew, someone grabbed her by the collar and punched her straight in the face.
The punch was brutal. Her nose bled on the spot, and she was nearly knocked unconscious.
Wei Ke admitted she liked to have fun and tease people. She sometimes joked around after drinking, especially with close friends. But she still had a clear sense of boundaries.
You don’t touch a friend’s partner, let alone your sister’s girlfriend.
Bai Ruoya was supposed to be her future sister-in-law. Even if she went completely insane, she would never lay a finger on her.
But when faced with the tear-streaked, pitiful-looking Bai Ruoya, her parents and sister—who had lived with her for over twenty years—chose not to believe her.
Looking back, it felt absurd. She had knocked over half the room trying to find her medication in the dark. If she had truly planned to do something inappropriate to that woman, how could the carpet in front of her bed have ended up in such a mess?
It was frustrating. It was humiliating.
Just thinking about that night made Wei Ke feel the anger boil inside her again.
From that moment on, she no longer believed Bai Ruoya deserved to be with her sister, nor did she think someone like her should be allowed into the Wei family.
So she began to confront her at every turn, tirelessly showing up in front of her sister and parents to try and reveal Bai Ruoya’s true nature. But instead of opening their eyes, those attempts only drove a wedge between her and her family.
One step at a time, she was pushed out. Eventually, she was completely disowned by the Wei family.
She still remembered staring at the public statement they issued, confused and devastated. Those were her own family. How could they abandon her so easily for an outsider?
Had they been brainwashed? Was it some kind of spell?
Unable to make sense of it, and unwilling to accept it, she put all the blame on Bai Ruoya. Her hatred only grew deeper. She couldn’t stand to even hear her name. But no matter how many times they clashed, no matter how well prepared she was, she always lost in the end.
Even being pushed off the cliff had something to do with her.
Now that she thought about it, it probably wasn’t just Bai Ruoya’s protagonist aura. There must have been something else she had never discovered.
