The Villainous Scum Alpha Was Reborn (GL) - Chapter 11
Feeling relieved was one thing. Being angry was another. The two did not cancel each other out.
Wei Ke had been lied to for so long. How could she let Jiang Ying off the hook just because she confessed?
Didn’t Jiang Ying claim she loved drinking, was great at drinking, and always knew her limits?
Fine. Tonight, Wei Ke was going to test those limits. She wanted to see the real difference between Jiang Ying when she was truly drunk and when she was just pretending. She was going to evaluate how convincing her acting really was.
Once she made up her mind, Wei Ke glanced out the window at the darkening orange glow of sunset. She used the remote to turn on the chandelier lights in the living and dining rooms, as well as the ambient lighting on the balcony.
Once she was satisfied with the lighting, she walked over to the wine cabinet, crouched down, and pulled out a six-bottle wine box from the bottom shelf.
Jiang Ying looked nervously at Wei Ke, then at the wine box. “What are you trying to do?”
Wei Ke carried the wine box over to the coffee table in the living room and leaned back on the sofa. “Your dear sister Wei wants to see what you’re really made of tonight.”
Jiang Ying didn’t say anything.
“So, what do you want to eat with the wine?” Wei Ke tilted her head and looked at Jiang Ying. Even though she was looking up at her, there was still a certain pressure in her gaze that was hard to ignore.
Jiang Ying stretched her neck to peek at the labels on the bottles. Once she confirmed it was wine and not hard liquor, she quietly sighed in relief. “Then let’s go with seafood. Maybe some sashimi, oysters, and shrimp.”
“Sure.” Wei Ke nodded and, right in front of her, picked up the phone and placed an order for exactly what Jiang Ying had asked for.
Jiang Ying had known Wei Ke for many years. She could easily tell that Wei Ke was genuinely angry this time. Feeling guilty, she quietly moved to the far end of the sofa, trying to put some distance between them and lower her presence.
But Wei Ke was not about to let her off that easily. She noticed the sneaky movement and leaned over to pull a wine opener from the drawer, tossing it to her. “I’m providing the wine, the food, and the venue. Don’t just sit there. Open the bottles.”
Jiang Ying let out a quiet sigh, then crouched by the coffee table and started pulling out bottles. She opened one after another. When she had opened three and still received no response from Wei Ke, she gritted her teeth and went ahead and opened all six.
Wei Ke hadn’t expected her to be that bold. She hesitated, then gave her a friendly warning. “This is Amarone, a strong red wine with seventeen percent alcohol. You know that, right?”
The next second, Jiang Ying, who had seen her share of party scenes, trembled and dropped the corkscrew on the floor.
That night, only Wei Ke, Jiang Ying, and the small hidden camera tucked in the corner of the wine cabinet knew exactly what had happened.
Not a drop of the six bottles was wasted. Wei Ke drank two, and Jiang Ying drank four.
In comparison to strong spirits, this wasn’t particularly dangerous. But with the emotional atmosphere building around them, it was no wonder Jiang Ying got drunk.
Wei Ke watched her clutching a dining chair and sobbing uncontrollably, and felt a headache coming on. Before this moment, she had never imagined that Jiang Ying would be someone who couldn’t let go.
It had been three days since her last failed date. And yet, she was still stuck on it.
“It’s okay, it’s okay. Just don’t do online dating anymore. Someone like you has no problem finding someone real. Why bother?” Wei Ke said for the fourth time as she crouched beside her, gently rubbing her back and trying to coax her to let go of the poor chair.
Jiang Ying froze for a few seconds. Then she slowly released the chair, only to lunge at Wei Ke and throw her arms around her neck, crying even harder.
“But I’m heartbroken. I’m really upset. I dated that little bunny online for two months. In that time, I bought them game gear, makeup, bags, and dresses. And it turns out that bunny was a male omega. I do like omegas, but I wanted a female omega!”
She wailed again and continued crying. “He didn’t even confess when he got the gifts. He even asked to meet in person. He wore all the stuff I sent and showed up just to gross me out. How can someone be that cruel? This world is too evil.”
Wei Ke felt the warmth spreading on her shoulder and tried to push Jiang Ying off, but the harder she tried, the tighter the grip became. Eventually, she gave up struggling and gently stroked the back of her head.
“Alright, alright. Just cry it all out. Once you’ve cried enough, forget about him. Treat it like a bad dream and let it go. Be good now. Let’s go to the guest room and rest. A good night’s sleep will make everything better. Listen to me, okay, Shadow?”
By the time Jiang Ying was lying on the large bed in the guest room, the sky was already beginning to brighten. After tucking her in, Wei Ke returned to her own room, took a quick shower, and collapsed into bed. The sky outside was fully lit. She yawned and pulled the covers over her head.
Another day on a cursed sleep schedule.
That afternoon, when Wei Ke finally woke up, Jiang Ying was still fast asleep with her head under the blanket. The messy living room had already been cleaned by the housekeeper. The empty wine bottles and takeout boxes had been cleared, and the used wine glasses had been washed and hung neatly back on the rack.
It was as if nothing had happened the night before.
The sunflowers had withered. Wei Ke glanced at the bouquet of gladiolus tossed onto the sofa and picked it up. She carefully unwrapped it and placed it in the vase where the sunflowers had once stood.
By the time Jiang Ying came out of the guest room rubbing her eyes, the sun had already gone down. The stars had quietly taken over the sky.
“Drinking again tonight?” Wei Ke asked, sipping a glucose drink as she lounged on the sofa and looked at Jiang Ying’s messy hair.
Jiang Ying leaned weakly against the wall and waved her hand. “I want porridge.”
Wei Ke had expected this. She got up and handed her another glucose packet. “Drink this, then go wash up. There are clothes in your size in the guest room closet. Move quickly.”
Jiang Ying mumbled a quiet thank you as she took the packet and headed back.
After having porridge, Wei Ke took Jiang Ying back to the shop where she had failed to buy her shoes last time. This time, she bought them. When they returned, it was nearly midnight. Jiang Ying got out of the car at the entrance of her neighborhood, and they went their separate ways.
Wei Ke wasn’t tired. When she got home, she went straight into her study to check her emails. Since her rebirth, she hadn’t opened her inbox even once. Now that she did, there were over a dozen unread messages waiting for her.
Since college, she had known she didn’t like office jobs or being managed by others. So right after graduation, she became an independent investor.
In the beginning, she didn’t have much capital, so she mostly invested in small personal studios. Luckily, she had a good eye. The studios she chose developed very well. In just two years, they had brought her impressive profits.
After finishing her emails, Wei Ke picked up the book she had bookmarked a few days ago and read until she reached the end.
She returned the book to the shelf. Outside the window, the sky was already turning pale. Another sleepless night had passed.
It was now the eighth. The day after tomorrow would be the Mid-Autumn Festival, but her name change approval still hadn’t arrived. She couldn’t help feeling a little anxious.
Getting a full day’s sleep was clearly out of the question for her now. But a quick nap was still possible.
Wei Ke lay down on the lounge chair by the window, pulled a blanket over herself, put on her sleep mask, and dozed off.
Just after nine, her phone started ringing from the desk where it was charging. The sound startled her awake. Seeing that it was a call from Xu Ran, her heart lifted with hope.
“The approval came through? You’re already here? Alright, I’ll head over right now.”
Wei Ke had gone to bed still thinking about the name change. She never expected that as soon as she woke up, it would actually be approved.
After ending the call, she quickly changed clothes and headed downstairs, making her way to the location Xu Ran had sent her.
With the approval in place, she could now apply for a new ID card. But since that would take time to process, Xu Ran had arranged for her to first get a temporary one to use in the meantime.
Back when Wei Ke had turned eighteen and bought her first apartment, her parents, Wei Hongbo and Xu Bingzhi, had transferred her household registration out of the family home. They said it was what Wei Huan had done too. As an alpha, she was expected to eventually lead her own household, and the earlier it was settled, the less trouble there would be. At the time, Wei Ke had not thought much of it. But looking back now, especially with everything she remembered from her past life, the truth hit her a little harder.
Still, in some ways, it had made things easier now.
Once the temporary ID was processed, Xu Ran immediately began the next steps.
In the past two years, Wei Ke had made enough money to buy two small apartments. They were not particularly large, one was just over 220 square meters and the other was around 180. The locations were average, and the prices were not high. She also bought a car, an S90 worth several hundred thousand yuan, which she used occasionally.
Counting the home and car gifted to her by the Wei family, she now had three apartments and two cars. Compared to what Xu Ran usually managed for Tian Wanwan, which included dozens of properties and vehicles, this was almost nothing.
Even so, these assets might not be impressive compared to the children of powerful families in G City. But for a 25-year-old alpha, it was already a solid achievement.
At the very least, it proved she had the ability to make money.
Once everything that required her to be present was finished, the rest of the process was left to Xu Ran to handle.
Feeling good about the successful name change, Wei Ke opened WeChat and changed her long-time nickname “K” to her new name, Nan Ke.
The first person to notice was Jiang Ying, who had just woken up and was about to message her to invite her to lunch.
Jiang Ying had also used the same nickname since registering her account. Neither of them liked changing names, and they never used contact notes for each other.
Roving Like a Shadow:
Is it just me, or did you change your name?
Nan Ke:
What do you think? Sounds good, right?
Roving Like a Shadow:
It’s okay, I guess.
Nan Ke:
Please turn on your compliment mode. Thank you.
Roving Like a Shadow:
You want me to waste words over a WeChat name?
Nan Ke:
It’s not just a WeChat name.
Roving Like a Shadow:
…
Roving Like a Shadow:
What do you mean?
Roving Like a Shadow:
Seriously?
Nan Ke had just tapped the input box and hadn’t even typed a single punctuation mark when a video call came in from Jiang Ying.
“No way. Ke-jie, did you already find your biological parents?” Jiang Ying appeared on screen lying on her pillow, her hair sticking out in two messy tufts.
“How can you wake up and start talking nonsense?” Nan Ke leaned back in her chair, the reflection of the phone screen visible in her sunglasses.
Jiang Ying rubbed her eyes. “Then what did you mean? You just said it was more than a name.”
“I didn’t deny I changed my surname. I was saying your guess was wrong.” Nan Ke was surprisingly patient today.
Jiang Ying gave a small “oh.” Then she asked, “But if you didn’t find your birth parents, why change your name? What if your real parents are also surnamed Wei?”
“You really know how to talk. I’m an adult now. I can choose any surname I want.” Nan Ke removed her sunglasses and looked at her with slight impatience. “Let me officially inform you again. From today on, I’m Nan Ke. You better get used to it.”
Jiang Ying narrowed her eyes. “Changing your surname is that casual? What if I want to make mine a double surname? Can I do that too?”
Nan Ke nodded. “Of course you can. As long as you’re ready to give up your inheritance from the Jiang family and can handle both of your parents tag-teaming you in a full-blown lecture. And don’t forget your grandparents. That makes four people ganging up on you. But sure, why not?”
Jiang Ying fell silent.
They quickly moved on from the name change topic. After a playful back-and-forth of “no” and “definitely not,” the two finally decided on a restaurant for lunch, ended the call, and headed out to meet each other.
