The Villainous Scum Alpha Was Reborn (GL) - Chapter 13
When Nan Ke walked through the main gate of the Wei family home, Xu Bingzhi and Wei Hongbo were already standing at the entrance, arms crossed, clearly waiting for her.
After parking the car, Nan Ke looked at their stern faces and let out a quiet sigh.
If she had a choice, she would never want to go through this kind of confrontation again. Even though she was the one initiating it this time, it was still about cutting ties. No matter how it happened, the result was the same.
It was not that there was no other way. She had chosen this path herself.
“You could have picked a different way. You chose this one on purpose,” the system’s voice rang in her head.
“What?”
“Based on analysis, instead of switching positions with your sister, you could have chosen to stay silent, fight back from within, take everything away from Wei Huan, destroy Bai Ruoya’s future, and make her dream of marrying into a wealthy family fall apart. You could have stood right next to her, smiling as you watched her fall apart.”
“Enough,” Nan Ke muttered. She was not some ancient strategist or a vengeful warlord. Why should she force herself to live with disgust, mentally and physically, just to bring Bai Ruoya down?
If she were honest, the only person she had ever clashed with from the start was Bai Ruoya. It had been Bai Ruoya who set her up first. She had only fought back. She lost because Bai Ruoya had the role of the heroine. Of course, she had been angry. Of course, she wanted justice.
But the Wei family, although they had failed to stand by her and had hurt her deeply by choosing to cut her off, had never actually ruined her. Even when they publicly disowned her, they did not take back anything they had given. They had even offered her money afterward.
She admitted that being abandoned had been painful. But it was not enough for her to want revenge or destroy their lives.
The love she once received from them had been real. She had felt it. That could not be denied.
She had already died once. Her heart had grown cold, but that did not mean she wanted them to suffer. Choosing to live separate lives and never speak again was already more than enough.
“Then stop dragging it out,” the system said flatly.
“Wait, while you’re here, you keep talking about giving me luck points. What are those actually for?” Nan Ke quickly asked the question that had been bothering her for days.
There was no reply.
Nan Ke rolled her eyes. Just like that, the system had vanished again.
Thanks to that brief distraction, Nan Ke stepped out of the car with a rare look of calm seriousness on her face. There was no hesitation, no nervousness.
She had always come home smiling, full of warmth. This was the first time she returned without a hint of emotion. The moment Wei Hongbo looked into her eyes, he let out a cold snort and turned back into the house without saying a word.
Xu Bingzhi glanced back at her husband, worried about his mood. But when she looked at Nan Ke’s indifferent expression, she could not help but frown.
Nan Ke had been in a bad mood ever since she saw that WeChat photo in the morning. So when her eyes met Xu Bingzhi’s, she simply gave her a faint nod.
Xu Bingzhi was stunned. Just a nod? No “Mom”? That was hard for her to accept.
Once inside, Nan Ke looked straight at Wei Hongbo, who was seated in the center of the long sofa. She did not give up her initiative. She spoke first.
“I wrote the note clearly. That money was to repay you for the house.”
“Why use the word ‘repay’?” Xu Bingzhi sat beside him, her voice filled with displeasure as she looked at Nan Ke.
Nan Ke did not hold back. “Because I want to make a clean break with you. I don’t like Bai Ruoya. I know you’ve already accepted her as your daughter-in-law. Nothing I say will change that. I cannot accept her, so the only choice left is for me to leave. I’ll step out of this family and give you what you want.”
“How many times have you even met her?” Xu Bingzhi took a deep breath. She had not expected Nan Ke’s hostility toward Bai Ruoya to be this intense. Last night, when she posted that photo, she had even reminded Nan Ke to check it. Now she regretted it. “Why do you hate someone you don’t even know well? Your sister already explained it to us. Can you at least tell us clearly what it is that you dislike about Ruoya?”
Nan Ke heard the quiet shuffle of footsteps behind her. She looked down and answered in a low voice. “I’ve already made myself clear. I don’t like her. I don’t like anything about her.” She paused, then added, “Fine. I’ll give you a choice. Her or me.”
“Enough,” Wei Hongbo shouted. It was the first time he had ever raised his voice like that at home. He was clearly furious.
Wei Huan, who was entering the house with Bai Ruoya, was startled by his yell. But what truly shocked her was Nan Ke’s words. She froze near the entryway, staring down the hallway.
“You can call it a tantrum if you want,” Nan Ke continued in a cold voice. “But go ahead and choose. Do you want your future daughter-in-law, or your daughter?”
The moment she said it, Nan Ke felt her heart tighten. A deep ache spread through her chest.
Maybe the question was pointless. In her past life, they had never chosen her either. Still, she had hoped. Maybe they had been tricked by Bai Ruoya back then. Maybe they thought she had done something terrible.
This time, there were no lies. No misunderstandings. Maybe they would choose differently.
But they did not.
The silence that followed was answer enough.
In a moment like this, silence meant everything. As parents, the fact that they did not choose their daughter right away said it all.
“Ke Ke, can you please stop acting like this? Your sister just found someone she loves. There is no need to make this into a big scene or seek attention. Try to be more understanding. Think about your sister for once.” Xu Bingzhi’s voice was noticeably softer than when they were at the door.
When Nan Ke heard the words “seek attention,” her head tilted back slightly. A single tear slipped down her cheek from her left eye. The pain in her heart was overwhelming.
Wei Huan finally stepped forward. She gently pulled her hand away from Bai Ruoya and walked quickly to the living room. She reached out and shoved Nan Ke.
“What’s wrong with you? Why are you being so dramatic?”
Nan Ke stumbled back a step. Once she regained her footing, she looked at Wei Huan with cold eyes.
“I told you already. That day, Ruoya didn’t mean anything by it. She was just feeling unwell. That is why she lost her temper in front of you. It wasn’t even a big deal. Why are you making it into something so serious? Wei Ke!” Wei Huan’s voice was calm, but every word felt like a knife to Nan Ke’s chest.
Xu Bingzhi nodded in agreement. “Yes, Ruoya was not feeling well. Ke Ke, you really need to stop being so unreasonable.”
Ruoya. Ke Ke.
Nan Ke bit down on her lower lip, doing everything she could to stop herself from crying again.
“Unwell?” she said through gritted teeth. “You mean she didn’t respect herself, got pregnant before marriage, and now wants to hide it from me? And I’m supposed to keep pretending everything is fine?”
She stopped there. There was one more thing she wanted to say. She wanted to ask them if they even knew who the father of that child was.
But she held back. For now, it was only a suspicion.
“Wei Ke!” Wei Hongbo finally raised his voice again, his eyes red as he stood up from the sofa.
Nan Ke responded with a soft “Oh,” then turned slightly and pressed her fingertip to the corner of her eye. “I forgot to tell you both. I’ve already changed my last name. I’m Nan Ke now. If you want her to enter the Wei family, go ahead. I’m the outsider now.”
Wei Huan immediately stepped forward and grabbed Nan Ke by the collar, raising her right hand in a fist as if ready to hit her.
Nan Ke didn’t resist. She just stared straight at her. “Are you going to hit me for your precious Ruoya?”
Wei Huan’s fist froze about ten centimeters from Nan Ke’s face. She bit her lip, clearly trying to hold back, but her eyes still reddened uncontrollably. “So you just decided like that? To give us up? To give up this family?”
“You were the ones who gave me up.” Nan Ke calmly pried her hand off, her tone composed. But the more composed she was, the more painful her words became.
Xu Bingzhi and Wei Hongbo exchanged a glance, then silently lowered their heads.
Nan Ke opened her mouth but swallowed back the urge to tell them that there was no bl00d relation between them. Instead, she looked at Wei Huan with tears in her eyes and gave her a faint smile. “Huan-jie, I wish you happiness.”
“Wei Ke…” Wei Huan stared at her face, that forced smile looking more painful than crying. The word “Huan-jie” echoed in her ears. It was the first time Nan Ke hadn’t called her “big sister” or “sister.” It sounded like how strangers addressed her, and that alone made it perfectly clear what this meant.
Nan Ke turned and walked away. Just as she reached the hallway and stood face to face with Bai Ruoya at the entrance, Wei Hongbo finally shouted.
“You want to cut ties with us, is that it? Fine. But if you want to pay us back, do it properly. We won’t ask for the money we spent raising you, but since you’re repaying the house, it should be according to the current market price. You can’t expect to get everything for free.”
His voice trembled, and even the hands hidden behind his back were shaking slightly.
Xu Bingzhi wiped the corners of her eyes with a handkerchief and added, “Yes, that house has doubled in value. We bought it for just over fourteen million. It’s worth thirty million now. You only gave us twenty million, so you still owe us ten. Pay that off, and we’ll consider the relationship officially ended.”
Wei Huan shook her head. “Mom…”
Xu Bingzhi shot her a look, gently shaking her head. She knew these words would burn the last bridge of any maternal bond between them. But without bl00d ties, she did not know what else to say to make Nan Ke stay. This was the only thing she could use to hold her back.
Nan Ke, however, didn’t react with the anger or pain Xu Bingzhi expected. She simply took a deep breath and let out a soft laugh. “Alright.”
She and Bai Ruoya stood several meters apart, staring at each other.
Bai Ruoya’s mind was racing. She hesitated, wondering if she should take advantage of this “rebellious second daughter” to gain favor. But before she could decide, Nan Ke turned and walked away in the opposite direction.
Nan Ke had no intention of letting herself get entangled with Bai Ruoya. That woman was a master of acting. She had suffered enough in her past life and had no intention of giving her even the slightest chance to play the victim again.
The floor-to-ceiling windows on the first floor of the villa could be opened. Outside was a semi-covered patio. Nan Ke stepped over the railing, walked down the cobblestone path, and returned to her car, driving away from the villa she had lived in for more than a decade.
“After this farewell, we go our separate ways.”
Her pale green car sped down the road. Half an hour later, she pulled over at an empty roadside and finally broke down.
Leaning over the steering wheel, Nan Ke cried uncontrollably.
Thirty million. Three million more than what she had sent earlier. That was the price to buy out twenty-five years of familial ties.
She knew why Wei Hongbo and Xu Bingzhi had said what they did. They did not really want her money. They only used it as a last attempt to hold onto a relationship that was already falling apart. But no matter how she rationalized it, it still hurt deeply to hear.
Once her tears were spent, Nan Ke wiped her face with a wet tissue. She put on her sunglasses and headed to the bank again to complete the rest of the transfer.
One minute after the transaction was successful, 880 finally came back to life.
“Congratulations! You’ve received luck points. Cash reward will arrive within two hours.”
Nan Ke clutched her chest and glanced at her account balance, slumping weakly in her seat. “Now will you finally tell me what the luck points are for?”
“Luck points are like a bonus that boosts your luck. Once you collect enough, they activate and increase your luck in all areas. There are no restrictions. However, they are consumable.”
“You mean I could use it to win the lottery?” Nan Ke’s mouth twitched.
“Yes.”
She let out a sharp breath. This system really was ridiculous.
