The Villainous Scum Alpha Was Reborn (GL) - Chapter 14
G City was by the sea. Nan Ke had been wandering aimlessly for a while and somehow ended up near the shore.
At that time, the tide was rising, submerging the beach. The murky waves crashed against the slanted embankment, spraying white foam. It was not beautiful. In fact, it felt a little oppressive.
Nan Ke was not someone who loved the sea. Staring at the endless, dark water, she could not think of any poetic words to praise it. The salty, fishy wind blew straight into her face, carrying moisture and a faint stickiness.
She raised her hand to brush away the hair on her face and squinted at the endless horizon. The weight in her chest slowly lightened as the sound of the waves echoed in her ears.
To Nan Ke, the sea was neither beautiful nor comforting. But standing here, face-to-face with nature’s vastness, she could not help but feel a sudden awareness of how small and insignificant she was.
People come to understand themselves, and from that understanding comes healing.
Compared to the vast ocean, her frustration felt so small, almost unworthy of mention.
Now that her heart had relaxed, Nan Ke lifted her phone and took a photo. Because of the filter, the image looked more artistic and meaningful than the scene in real life.
She thought for a moment, then opened her social feed and posted it with a caption:
“Out of destruction comes new life. From facing death, we are reborn.”
Meanwhile, the Wei family’s villa was in complete chaos.
Half an hour earlier, Wei Hongbo had received confirmation that the last ten million yuan had been transferred. He stared at the screen in a daze. When he finally reacted and threw his phone, trying to stand up, he suddenly lost his breath and collapsed straight back onto the sofa.
Wei Hongbo had always been in good health. He was not that old and had never experienced anything like this before.
The moment he collapsed, Xu Bingzhi and Wei Huan were terrified. Xu Bingzhi especially was so shaken that her hands trembled while calling Dr. Shao. In the end, Wei Huan grabbed the phone from her and clearly explained the situation. Then, under the doctor’s instructions, she performed emergency first aid.
Luckily, it was not too serious. Wei Hongbo had only fainted from extreme emotional stress. By the time the family doctor rushed over, he had already regained consciousness. Although his emotions were still unstable and he looked weak, he was physically alright.
Xu Bingzhi and Wei Huan never left his side. When they saw him wake up, they felt some relief. But they did not truly relax until Dr. Shao finished his examination and gave his diagnosis.
What no one expected was that in the middle of all this panic, Bai Ruoya had also been frightened. She lost her balance and fell. Even worse, she hit her lower back on something hard, which affected her pregnancy. And in this moment, when everyone was too busy to notice her, she began bleeding.
From the moment she entered the Wei household, Bai Ruoya had always been in an awkward position. After hearing that Wei Huan’s younger sister wanted to cut ties with the family because of her, she became even more hesitant to come forward.
She was afraid the family, in a moment of anger, would blame everything on her. But when she realized that no one had completely rejected her presence, she felt a small spark of joy. At least it showed that they still cared more about the elder daughter. They were even willing to tolerate the younger daughter’s outburst for the elder one’s sake.
In a way, her position in the family felt more secure. It also reassured her that the Wei family would not mistreat their daughter-in-law.
That was something to be happy about.
So when she heard the voices of Xu Bingzhi and Wei Huan shouting in fear, she rushed over without a second thought. But she had not expected the household staff to be so loyal and quick. They were already ahead of her. In her haste, she could not avoid them and ended up twisting her ankle as she stepped into the living room. She fell hard.
One of the maids helped her up in the chaos. After that, Bai Ruoya sat quietly on a chair and did not move.
While she sat still, she started feeling a dull pain in her lower abdomen. She thought it was just due to nervousness causing contractions. But after resting for a while, the pain did not ease. It actually became worse. When she tried to stand up, her face pale and body trembling, she felt a warm liquid flowing down her legs.
Because of Wei Hongbo’s sudden collapse, everyone in the house was shaken. No one looked well, and Bai Ruoya’s fall did not seem serious. Even the maid who had helped her did not notice anything strange.
It was a string of bad luck and unfortunate timing.
She ended up walking several meters alone, unnoticed. Bl00d had soaked through her pants.
When her body started to sway, looking like she was about to faint, the maid finally noticed something was wrong and rushed to find Wei Huan.
Although the family doctor was skilled, he was already busy taking care of Wei Hongbo and checking on Xu Bingzhi, who had been emotionally overwhelmed. Obstetrics was not his specialty. Seeing the signs of a miscarriage in Bai Ruoya, he could only give advice from the side and urged Wei Huan to get her to the hospital immediately.
By the time they arrived at the best private hospital in G City, Wei Huan was drenched in sweat. She half-carried Bai Ruoya into the emergency room and gently laid her on a hospital bed, nearly collapsing herself from exhaustion.
This day had been full of disaster. Trouble kept piling up one after another.
Leaning against the wall outside the emergency room, watching people rush through the hallway, Wei Huan felt like she was floating. If the weight of exhaustion had not felt so real, she might have thought this morning was just a terrible dream.
It was ridiculous. It was overwhelming.
And then, just a moment later, she ran into someone she knew. She had to pull herself together and force a smile to greet them politely.
“Aunt Su,” Wei Huan called out warmly as she nodded to Su Hongying.
Su Hongying was Jiang Ying’s mother. In her fifties, she was well-maintained, with very few wrinkles or age spots. Her complexion was rosy and healthy, not at all like someone who was unwell.
With one glance, Wei Huan made her judgment.
“You’re here to visit a friend?”
Su Hongying waved her hand. “No, just here for a routine checkup. What about you? You don’t look so well. Are you feeling alright?”
Wei Huan smiled shyly and did not hide the truth.
“I’m here with my girlfriend. She’s not feeling well.”
“You’re dating someone now?” Su Hongying’s eyes lit up with surprise. “Oh my, I had no idea. Your mom really knows how to keep secrets. You must bring her to meet me one day. I’ll treat you both to a meal.”
Wei Huan nodded. “It should be me treating you instead.”
“No need to be polite with me,” Su Hongying replied warmly. She glanced sideways where her daughter, Jiang Ying, had just finished paying and was waving at her from the other side of the hallway. “Xiao Ying is calling me. I’ll head over now. But don’t forget to bring her by when you have time.”
“Of course. Take care.”
The obstetrics and gynecology department of this hospital took up an entire floor. But even with so much space, the chance of running into someone was still quite high.
After meeting up with Jiang Ying, Su Hongying smiled and let out a sigh.
“Looks like we might be drinking at the Wei family’s wedding soon.”
“What do you mean?” Jiang Ying had only seen her mother chatting with someone in passing. Because of the angle and her lack of attention, she had not looked closely at who that person was.
Su Hongying chuckled.
“I just ran into Ke’s sister. She said she was here with her girlfriend. Since it’s the OB-GYN department, I’m guessing it means they’re expecting.”
Jiang Ying rolled her eyes.
“Not necessarily. These days, the rate of painful periods in omegas is so high. It could be anything.”
“That’s true.” Su Hongying nodded thoughtfully, then reached out to knock gently on the door in front of her before pushing it open.
Jiang Ying closed the door behind them and leaned casually against it, scrolling through her phone with a hint of distaste on her face as she remembered the omega they had run into at the shoe store.
Her WeChat was filled with unread messages. She tapped through them one by one to clear the red notification dots, not bothering to actually read any of them.
After clearing the notifications, she opened her Moments feed, planning to take a closer look. But before she could even scroll down, Nan Ke’s latest post popped up at the top of her screen.
“Destruction brings rebirth? Living through death? At the seaside?” Jiang Ying’s eyes widened. “What? Is Nan Ke trying to jump into the ocean?”
Panicked, she quickly exited the app and called the contact saved under a single character: Ke.
Nan Ke had just gotten into her car by the shore and was about to head back when the phone rang. She had not even said hello before she heard Jiang Ying shouting on the other end.
“Ke! If you’ve got something to say, talk it out! Don’t do anything stupid! I still need you to get rich with me!”
The noise made Nan Ke’s ears ring. She quickly pulled the phone away and lowered the call volume.
“Are you crazy? Who told you I was going to do something like that?”
“Then why did you run off to the beach? You hate the ocean,” Jiang Ying snapped as she closed the door to the stairwell. “Honestly, it’s like trying to help someone who bites you. I was really worried.”
Nan Ke scowled.
“You’re the one acting like a dog.”
Jiang Ying ignored the insult and cleared her throat.
“Anyway, I came to the hospital with my mom today. Guess who we saw?”
“Who?” Nan Ke replied, playing along but clearly not interested.
“It wasn’t me who saw her. My mom did. Your sister brought her girlfriend to the OB-GYN department.”
Nan Ke let out a dismissive laugh.
“Just a checkup, what’s the big deal…”
But halfway through her sentence, she froze.
Was it really just a checkup?
Based on the way Wei Huan was acting before she left the Wei family, would she really have the mood to take Bai Ruoya to a routine prenatal visit? And tomorrow was the Mid-Autumn Festival. In her previous life, it was during this very festival that Wei Huan had chosen to sacrifice her child for Bai Ruoya.
Would it happen again this time?
Nan Ke’s thoughts suddenly shifted, and her tone became serious.
“Yingzi, are you still at the hospital? If you have time, can you check things out for me? Something feels wrong.”
“No problem,” Jiang Ying agreed immediately. But just as she was about to ask what felt off, the call disconnected. A moment later, a voice message popped up from Nan Ke on WeChat.
“I’m driving now.”
Jiang Ying stared at her phone in silence.
Nan Ke put her phone down and stepped on the gas, heading toward the city center.
She truly did not want to see Bai Ruoya’s face again, but that did not mean she would let her off so easily.
In her past life, everything had changed with her death. The story had opened with the price of a life. Why should Bai Ruoya get to walk away untouched?
She had cut ties with the Wei family, but it was never about stepping aside for Bai Ruoya.
The words she said in the Wei family villa were not just to end her relationship with them. They were a declaration of war against Bai Ruoya.
Her message was clear.
Look. I reject you so completely that I’m willing to give up everything for it. Are you ready for a fight to the bitter end?
Whether Bai Ruoya understood it or not, Nan Ke no longer cared.
