The Villainous Scum Alpha Was Reborn (GL) - Chapter 15
Nan Ke used to believe that the Wei family had abandoned her for someone named Bai. Even if it cost her life, she could not allow Bai Ruoya to marry into the Wei family.
In the end, she really did die, and it still didn’t stop Wei Huan and Bai Ruoya’s grand wedding. Looking back now, she realized just how foolish she had been. Even when they were treating her with such coldness, she kept desperately clinging to them.
After learning that Bai Ruoya’s child might not even be Wei Huan’s, Nan Ke thought again about their wedding and suddenly everything became clearer.
She refused to believe that Bai Ruoya’s supposed charm could make the Wei family willingly give up the daughter they had raised for over twenty years, and still accept the humiliation of her bringing someone else’s child into the family before even getting married.
If their blind admiration for Bai Ruoya truly had no boundaries, then someone as dangerous as her should not be allowed to exist.
With the kind of influence Bai Ruoya had over others, this wasn’t just a female lead from a romantic story. This was someone closer to a devil.
When Nan Ke arrived at the hospital’s rear entrance, she saw Jiang Ying crouching dramatically at the entrance of the staff parking lot, gazing up at the sky at a forty-five-degree angle, as if lost in a theatrical sadness.
To avoid standing out too much in her bright green outfit from earlier, Nan Ke had returned home to switch cars. She drove her white Volvo S90 instead. When the car pulled up in front of Jiang Ying, she didn’t recognize it at first.
She glanced at it, then returned her gaze to the sky. After a few seconds, she finally realized it was Nan Ke’s car and quickly opened the passenger door and got in.
“Are they still inside?” Nan Ke asked while turning the car and heading toward the general parking area.
“They’re still there,” Jiang Ying replied. “But Huan is probably leaving soon. I overheard her on the phone saying she has an important meeting this afternoon and she’ll be there on time. That omega will likely be staying at the hospital for a couple of days. I asked around. It was a miscarriage.”
Nan Ke had already suspected as much, so the confirmation didn’t surprise her.
But Jiang Ying didn’t look so good. Her face was full of worry.
“Ke, with your future sister-in-law pulling a stunt like this, doesn’t it mean Huan might have no choice but to marry her now?”
“Who cares? Why are you even stressing about this?” Nan Ke glanced at her with amusement and couldn’t help but smile at Jiang Ying’s expression.
“You don’t like her, right? Honestly, I don’t like her either. Just thinking about having to call her ‘sister-in-law’ makes me uncomfortable.” Jiang Ying pouted in disgust.
Nan Ke parked the car and looked at the back of a sleek black R8 behind a row of bushes. She paused for a moment and said,
“Then don’t call her that. No one’s forcing you. I’m certainly not going to.”
Jiang Ying blinked.
“What?”
Nan Ke nodded.
“I made things clear with the Wei family this morning. From now on, I have nothing to do with them.”
Jiang Ying whipped her head around in shock, staring at Nan Ke like she had just been struck by lightning.
“Why are you so surprised?” Nan Ke asked calmly. “You already knew I wasn’t their biological daughter. Today, I just said it out loud. I made them choose between me and that woman. They picked their daughter-in-law over me.”
Jiang Ying’s shock only deepened.
“They actually chose her? Are they crazy?”
Nan Ke smiled and looked ahead just in time to see Wei Huan appear in the distance. She rushed to her car, got in, and drove off.
Once the R8 had disappeared from view, Nan Ke took off her sunglasses. Her eyes were slightly red.
“Let’s go,” she said softly. “I’m going to see that woman. And can you help me ask if we can do a DNA test on the embryo from the miscarriage?”
Jiang Ying hesitated.
“A DNA test? You think that’s not Huan’s baby?”
“A little suspicious, yes.” Nan Ke’s voice was calm. She opened her door and got out of the car, walking straight toward the hospital entrance.
It took Jiang Ying a moment to recover. By the time she snapped out of it, Nan Ke had already walked far ahead. She quickly jumped out and ran after her.
Today had been too much. She felt like she was about to explode from all the Wei family drama. This was beyond outrageous.
Bai Ruoya’s hospital room was on the fourth floor. With Jiang Ying leading the way, Nan Ke didn’t have much trouble finding it, even though it was her first time in the inpatient department of OB-GYN.
The two of them split up. Jiang Ying went to help with the DNA test. Nan Ke went to meet Bai Ruoya, not to argue, but to test her with words.
To avoid any unexpected accusations, Nan Ke turned on her phone’s recording app before entering the room.
In the single-patient room, Bai Ruoya was lying on the bed with her eyes closed. Her face was pale as paper. She looked weak and pitiful. If Nan Ke didn’t know everything from her previous life, she might have felt some sympathy.
She knocked lightly and entered. On the bed, Bai Ruoya slowly opened her eyes.
“I heard you had a miscarriage?” Nan Ke leaned against the door, her back resting on the glass panel.
Bai Ruoya didn’t reply.
Nan Ke watched her furrow her brows and gave a short laugh.
“I won’t beat around the bush. I’m only here to ask you one thing.”
Before she could continue, Bai Ruoya spoke first.
“Ke, your sister just left. She was very hurt by what you said this morning. She really values you as her little sister. I think you should go find her and apologize instead of coming to see me.”
After speaking, she took a deep breath and pressed the button to raise the head of her bed.
Nan Ke gave a small nod and ignored her suggestion.
“The child you lost wasn’t hers, was it?”
“What are you saying? Ke, how can you say something like that?” Bai Ruoya’s expression was one of shock and humiliation. With her sickly pale complexion, she looked especially fragile and innocent.
Nan Ke stared at her coldly. There was something about the whole situation that made her feel like this baby had been a consequence of Bai Ruoya’s own choices. But before she could say anything else, Bai Ruoya leaned into it.
“Ke, I’m telling you, it was you who killed my baby.”
Nan Ke didn’t respond. She simply raised her hand in a gesture that meant go on.
Bai Ruoya wiped her eyes with her sleeve and continued in a trembling voice.
“If you hadn’t said such heartless things to your sister and uncle and aunt this morning, your uncle wouldn’t have fainted. I wouldn’t have panicked and fallen, hitting my back. And the baby wouldn’t have been lost forever.”
Nan Ke had heard those words before in her past life—“If it weren’t for you, that baby would still be alive.” And somehow, even in this life, she had come full circle and was hearing them again. She scratched her ear irritably.
“By the way, Miss Bai, don’t you have a job? After graduation, did you become some kind of caged songbird, being kept by Wei Huan? The Mid-Autumn holiday doesn’t even start until tomorrow. What were you doing at the Wei family’s house on a workday when you’re not even married in? Already acting like part of the family? You sure are nosy.”
Her tone was steady but laced with sarcasm.
Bai Ruoya turned red with embarrassment. Before she could reply, Nan Ke continued,
“I said I came to ask you one thing. Was that child really Wei Huan’s?”
“You’re insulting me.” Bai Ruoya finally dropped the act and glared at her, eyes reddening as her voice began to shake.
Nan Ke smirked.
“It was Lan Zifan’s, wasn’t it?”
At the mention of Lan Zifan, Bai Ruoya’s eyes widened instinctively. Her tone grew sharper.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Nan Ke caught every bit of her reaction. She had her answer. As the main antagonist in this sugary love story, Nan Ke had developed a sharp instinct. She could tell.
“Do you even understand love?” Nan Ke let out a cold laugh, grabbed the doorknob, opened the door, and walked out.
After leaving the hospital room, she met up with Jiang Ying by the elevator.
“It’s not illegal, but it might be a little questionable in terms of ethics. Still, nothing that really matters,” Jiang Ying mumbled for a while, then nodded firmly. “It can be done.”
Sometimes, Nan Ke really felt like her friend was so silly it was adorable. She smiled and asked, “Where’s your car?”
“My mom took it. After I finished talking to you, I told her to drive it back home. Why, you’re not going to give me a ride?”
“Of course I am,” Nan Ke said, as if it was only natural.
But once they were in the car, Jiang Ying noticed Nan Ke was driving straight toward the mall. She pulled up across from the corner with the luxury bag store.
Jiang Ying stayed quiet for a moment, suddenly feeling a bit guilty.
Nan Ke looked at her directly and said, “You still owe me a bag, right?”
“If you put it that way, I guess I kind of do,” Jiang Ying answered, avoiding Nan Ke’s eyes and turning slightly to the side.
Nan Ke laughed and said, “Don’t worry. I’m not going to rip you off. Just help me replace that bucket bag I always carry.”
“Really?” Jiang Ying turned back, still wary.
“Of course. But I need you to help me with something.”
“I knew it. I knew there had to be a catch,” Jiang Ying said, making a face that clearly showed she had expected this.
Nan Ke hooked her arm around Jiang Ying’s neck and leaned in. “It’s just a small favor.”
After they whispered in the corner for a bit, the two of them walked confidently into the luxury store they had already picked out. They asked to speak directly with Lan Zifan.
Nan Ke had seen Lan Zifan in her past life. She was beautiful and had been close friends with Bai Ruoya since they were young.
Back then, Nan Ke had investigated her. She learned that the Lan and Bai families had been family friends for years. When the Bai family ran into trouble, the Lan family spoke up in their defense and ended up being dragged into the situation as well. Not long after the Bai family went bankrupt, the Lan family followed.
That made Lan Zifan and Bai Ruoya childhood companions in every sense.
Nan Ke now suspected her because she was the only person still close to Bai Ruoya.
After Bai Ruoya got together with Wei Huan, she had clearly been limiting her social circle. Among her classmates, she had no deep connections. Very few people could even be called friends, and only Lan Zifan had continued to stay in touch over the years.
Given all that, Nan Ke no longer believed their relationship was just friendly.
An Alpha and an Omega, still spending time together like that? It was foolish of her to believe it was all innocent.
When Lan Zifan heard that a customer had asked for her by name, she assumed it was a referral from a regular client. Smiling warmly, she came out to greet them.
Nan Ke acted exactly like someone sent by a friend. She picked a bag without saying much and asked for it to be wrapped up right away.
As a sales associate, Lan Zifan had worked with many types of clients. Seeing someone so straightforward, her smile became even more genuine as she carefully packed the bag while wearing her white gloves.
After Jiang Ying paid, she glanced at Nan Ke who was browsing nearby. The two exchanged a look. Jiang Ying smiled and stepped forward.
“Hey, let’s add each other on WeChat, shall we? Honestly, you’re really attractive. If I weren’t an Alpha too, I’d probably try to chase you.”
Lan Zifan had met many bold customers over the years. She smiled and responded playfully.
“With looks like yours, who would ever need to chase anyone? If I weren’t an Alpha myself, I’d fall for you on the spot.”
Jiang Ying let out a soft laugh. She was beginning to think she had met her match. Her eyes drifted, almost casually, to a single hair resting on Lan Zifan’s shoulder.
