The Villainous Scum Alpha Was Reborn (GL) - Chapter 19
After sending the email, Nan Ke waved a hand in front of Jiang Ying’s dazed face.
“Why don’t you go back to your room and sleep a bit more? I’ll head out first.”
“What for? So you can enjoy the show alone?” Jiang Ying glanced at her sideways. “Just because I look half-asleep doesn’t mean I didn’t see what you were up to.”
Nan Ke let out a cold laugh. “I’m just worried it won’t be enough. What if there’s no fallout to watch?” Bai Ruoya was an expert at twisting the truth. Her ability to protect herself was frightening. Wei Huan might look cold and heartless on the outside, but she was soft-hearted deep down. Add in Bai Ruoya’s ‘main character aura’ and honestly, the outcome was hard to predict.
Jiang Ying rubbed her eyes. “Seriously? Even with evidence that solid, Huan would still want her?”
“It’s not that simple,” Nan Ke replied. She had thought the photos would be enough too, but the moment she clicked send, she remembered something from her past life.
Back then, Bai Ruoya had just taken on the title of Mrs. Wei. To boost her image as a strong omega, she collaborated with a beauty brand on behalf of the Wei family. The project failed, and when consumers started raising questions, she immediately distanced herself and shifted the blame.
Would she sacrifice Lan Zifan this time to save herself? Nan Ke couldn’t be sure. Aside from Bai Ruoya herself, no one really knew if she loved Lan Zifan more or Wei Huan more.
Or maybe, as Nan Ke had always suspected, the only person Bai Ruoya had ever truly loved was herself.
Jiang Ying still couldn’t wrap her head around it. “How is there anything left to explain? Has Huan lost her mind to still want someone like that?”
Nan Ke didn’t reply. She closed her laptop and stood up to leave.
Jiang Tairan and Su Hongying were already out, and aside from the housekeeper and staff, only Nan Ke and Jiang Ying were home. There was no need to say goodbye.
Since Jiang Ying had arrived with Nan Ke the day before, it made sense for her to leave with her now. But once they got back to the neighborhood entrance, they went in opposite directions and returned to their own homes.
Coincidentally, the moment Nan Ke pushed open her door was the same moment Wei Huan pushed open the door to Bai Ruoya’s hospital room.
Wei Huan had been juggling visits between the Wei family, her company, and the hospital for days. She didn’t even have time for a proper bath. Meanwhile, her beloved girlfriend had been lying comfortably in a hospital bed, managing her relationships like a time-management expert.
She knew Lan Zifan. They had even shared a few meals together. In fact, Bai Ruoya had often taken Wei Huan to Lan Zifan’s counter to help boost her sales.
Wei Huan used to think it was rare and sweet that someone as lonely as Bai Ruoya had such a long-time friend. Out of affection for Bai Ruoya, she had been kind to Lan Zifan too. Without that email, she would never have imagined what kind of relationship the two really had. She realized now she had misjudged everything.
Bai Ruoya’s face looked much healthier thanks to Aunt Qian’s homemade soup. When she saw Wei Huan arrive, her eyes lit up. The joy on her face seemed so genuine, it stung Wei Huan’s heart.
Look how happy she is to see me.
So how could she do something so disgusting?
Wei Huan’s pain was impossible to hide. She glanced at her assistant outside the door, then quietly shut it. She also pulled the curtain behind the glass partition closed.
Bai Ruoya sat up and tried to get out of bed, but Wei Huan stopped her.
“Why are you here? I thought you had an important executive meeting today?” Bai Ruoya’s voice was soft and weak, but her smile was bright. She seemed genuinely happy that Wei Huan had come.
Wei Huan walked over and gently stroked her hair. Her eyes, dull with sadness, focused on Bai Ruoya’s long lashes. Slowly, she leaned in and embraced her.
It was impossible not to feel sad. They had been together for almost six years.
A tear slid down from the corner of Wei Huan’s eye and fell silently onto Bai Ruoya’s thick, dark hair.
Bai Ruoya couldn’t see her expression or feel the warmth of that tear, but the silence made her uneasy.
“Was work stressful?” she asked gently. “It’s okay, really. If you’re tired, just take a break. If those people at work don’t understand you, I do. I’m always here for you.”
Wei Huan responded with a soft hum, as if she really was just worn out from work. She casually brushed aside Bai Ruoya’s hair from the back of her neck. Bai Ruoya, unable to see her face, thought she was simply being affectionate.
But Wei Huan wasn’t thinking about comfort or closeness. Her mind was elsewhere. She leaned in, rubbing her nose lightly against the pale skin at the nape of Bai Ruoya’s neck, desperate for confirmation.
An omega’s scent gland is located in a different place than an alpha’s. Due to their physiological differences and reproductive roles, an omega’s scent gland is more noticeable. Pulling back their hair reveals a small patch of smooth, pink skin where the gland is located.
Wei Huan had always paid close attention to Bai Ruoya’s heat cycles. She made sure to give her inhibitor injections on time and also took injectable birth control herself. When she first found out Bai Ruoya was pregnant, she had consulted a doctor. The doctor told her that while the injections lowered the chances, they didn’t eliminate them completely. Wei Huan had even felt guilty for doubting her.
But now, as she caught the familiar citrus scent mixed with a faint trace of mint, the hand resting on Bai Ruoya’s back slowly dropped.
It was almost certain now. Everything in that email was true.
Wei Huan took a deep breath and stood up straight, looking down at Bai Ruoya from above. Her eyes were red, filled with sorrow and disappointment.
“Bai Ruoya…” The way she stared made Bai Ruoya panic. She reached out to touch Wei Huan’s face, wanting to wipe away the tears, but Wei Huan turned her head and avoided the touch.
“What’s wrong?” Bai Ruoya asked, stunned by her reaction.
Wei Huan stared at her coldly and said, “Let’s break up.”
“No,” Bai Ruoya blurted out in panic. She seemed to sense what was coming and quickly grabbed Wei Huan’s hand. “You have to believe me. I love you; I really love you. You can’t leave me.”
“You love me?” Wei Huan asked, her voice quiet and trembling. “Then what is this?”
She pulled out her phone, found the photo she had stared at over and over on the way here, and tossed it onto the blanket beside Bai Ruoya.
When Bai Ruoya saw the image on the screen, her eyes turned red instantly. Tears welled up as if she were the one who had been wronged.
“Please, just let me explain. Wei Huan, listen to me,” she said through tears, her voice shaking. She sounded heartbroken and pitiful.
But the truth is, the one who had been betrayed was Wei Huan.
Wei Huan looked at Bai Ruoya’s tear-covered face and gently wiped her tears with the back of her hand.
“I’ll give you one minute. If you can’t explain it, I’ll leave.”
Bai Ruoya froze. One minute? That was far from enough. She had never imagined this moment would come. Before seeing the photos, she never once thought she would get caught. She had no plan, no story prepared. Everything in those pictures was real. How was she supposed to explain something that could not be denied?
Wei Huan said nothing else and quietly began counting.
Half a minute passed before Bai Ruoya finally stopped biting her pale lower lip and opened her mouth in a panic.
“Wei Huan, please, you have to believe me.”
Those words made Wei Huan’s chest tighten. Her head ached and her heart felt like it was being squeezed. She turned her eyes away and took a deep breath.
“After everything you’ve done, you still want me to believe you? Bai Ruoya, who do you think I am? I believed you too much. That’s the problem.”
“No, it’s not like that. Please, listen to me,” Bai Ruoya cried, shaking her head. She could not believe it. Just last night everything felt fine, and now it was all falling apart.
Time was up.
Wei Huan pulled her phone from Bai Ruoya’s hand and walked out of the room without looking back.
Outside the hospital room, one of the people Jiang Ying had arranged to keep watch recognized Wei Huan and quickly snapped a photo as she left. The person didn’t know what had happened inside the room, but judging from Wei Huan’s expression and pace, it was clear there had been a serious argument.
Jiang Ying should have received the update immediately, but her phone had died and was off. By the time she recharged it and forwarded the photo to Nan Ke, it was almost one in the afternoon.
Nan Ke had just finished a call with a startup founder and was sitting quietly, trying to decide whether to grab a light snack or order something in. As soon as she opened her eyes and saw the photo of Wei Huan walking away from the hospital in anger, all her tiredness disappeared.
She went back to the main screen, found the call log, and dialed Jiang Ying.
“Hello? Are you treating me to lunch?” Jiang Ying answered playfully while holding a glass of water.
“Of course. I’ll wait for you downstairs,” Nan Ke replied with a smile.
She hung up, picked up her bag, changed her shoes, and stepped out the door. Her mood had lifted, and even her steps felt light.
Just a short while ago, she had been worried that Bai Ruoya’s halo as the “main character” might still work. She had been afraid Wei Huan would swallow her pride and pretend nothing had happened. But now, it looked like the story was already over. Even the strong smell of disinfectant in the elevator suddenly felt refreshing.
To celebrate, they chose a nice restaurant for lunch.
After they finished eating, Jiang Ying, who had no other plans, was going to visit a potential investment project with Nan Ke. They had just gotten into the car when Wei Huan’s name appeared on the screen of Jiang Ying’s phone.
A breakup at noon and a phone call by afternoon. That was fast.
Nan Ke frowned as she looked at the screen, then shook her head slowly.
Jiang Ying didn’t understand what Nan Ke was thinking, but followed her lead. She pressed the mute button and slipped the phone into the storage compartment on the car door.
“You didn’t block her, did you?” Jiang Ying asked, buckling her seatbelt and leaning back.
“No, I didn’t,” Nan Ke answered. “Besides, she might not be calling for me.”
“Then who else would she call? Me?” Jiang Ying paused. Then she remembered the email had been sent from her house, using her computer. But that couldn’t be it. Her IP address had been masked. There was no way they could have traced it this quickly.
Nan Ke smiled. “Maybe she dialed the wrong number by accident.”
“That actually makes sense,” Jiang Ying said, nodding slowly.
The phone didn’t ring again. Jiang Ying decided to act like nothing had happened and stayed silent.
Later, after Nan Ke finished her work calls, she noticed the smell of cigarette smoke on her clothes. Frowning, she drove home to change.
Jiang Ying stood off to the side, watching her with a suspicious expression.
“Be honest. Do you like Liang Qingqing?”
Nan Ke glanced at her but didn’t answer.
Jiang Ying grinned. “Alright, how about this? Let me in on that investment deal. And tonight, I’ll find an excuse not to go. I’ll give you two a chance to have dinner alone. Sound good?”
Nan Ke was just about to respond when both of their phones, which had been resting on the console, lit up at the same time.
