The Villainous Scum Alpha Was Reborn (GL) - Chapter 6
There wasn’t much business interaction between the Jiang family and the Wei family, and their social circles barely overlapped. In terms of connections in the medical field, the Jiang family had the upper hand. They even owned shares in the most prestigious private hospital in the city. That was why Jiang Ying had taken the initiative yesterday to suggest finding someone to help Wei Ke with a paternity test.
It was because of what she said yesterday that Wei Ke brought it up today.
However, Jiang Ying could not understand why Wei Ke suddenly had such thoughts. After going home last night and letting out all the frustration from once again being emotionally deceived, she started thinking about this very issue. According to her original plan, even if Wei Ke had not mentioned it first, she had intended to ask him about it soon.
When the elevator doors opened, two neighbors stepped in with them, so they dropped the topic. It was not until they got in the car that Jiang Ying finally spoke.
“Making the appointment is easy. But Wei Ke, you need to be honest with me. Why do you really feel this way? From what I remember, your parents have always loved you deeply. Even though your sister, Wei Huan, was strict with you in the past, it was always for your own good. Now you suddenly want to do a paternity test? To be honest, I really don’t understand.”
Wei Ke knew Jiang Ying’s personality well and had already prepared an explanation while drinking the night before.
“It’s nothing serious. I just happened to overhear something. Apparently, Mom and Dad already made their wills and decided that everything in the Wei family will go to my sister. There is nothing left for me. I could not make sense of it, so I started thinking about it. Then I realized I’m different from them in a lot of ways. So I figured I would make a bold guess and carefully confirm it.”
Jiang Ying was completely stunned.
“They left you out of the will? That can’t be right. Both you and your sister are Alphas. Sure, you may not be quite as capable as she is, but you have never embarrassed them. Why wouldn’t they include you?”
“Exactly. I want to know why too,” Wei Ke replied. He had worried that Jiang Ying would not believe his story, but her strong reaction left him no choice but to go along with it.
“There is definitely something off about your parents. If I were you, I would be suspicious too,” Jiang Ying said. She was wearing sunglasses, but the shape of her mouth made it clear how shocked she was. “So tell me, what differences have you noticed?”
Wei Ke answered, “The most obvious one is that they can all eat spicy food, but I can’t. And they’re all allergic to mangoes, but I really like them.”
“What else?” Jiang Ying asked.
Wei Ke tilted his head and looked at her. “Isn’t that enough?”
“Not really,” Jiang Ying said. “If anything, your habit of hoarding things is solid proof that you are definitely their biological child.”
“I don’t think so,” Wei Ke replied.
“How could it not be?” Jiang Ying responded. “Uncle Wei loves buying cars. Aunt Xu is obsessed with handbags. Your sister Wei Huan keeps acquiring small companies. And you? You love buying anything and everything.”
Wei Ke was not convinced. “Doesn’t everyone have a few hobbies? Don’t you?”
Jiang Ying let out a cold laugh. “Don’t think we don’t know. Actually, our whole family knows. Your dad owns enough cars to form three wedding motorcades. Your mom’s handbags fill an entire 200-square-meter apartment. Your sister has acquired companies across all sorts of industries. And you… well, you know exactly what you’re like.”
Wei Ke refused to back down. “So what does that prove? Those are habits that can be developed. I probably picked them up because of their influence, not because we’re actually related.”
Jiang Ying fell silent. It wasn’t that she had nothing to say, she simply didn’t want to continue the conversation.
At exactly ten forty, the two of them walked into the hospital. Although the hospital was busy, things moved quickly thanks to Jiang Ying being a shareholder’s daughter and having connections.
After a series of tests, the doctor gave his conclusion. Wei Ke’s throat was only irritated due to alcohol. The bl00d vessels were inflamed and the vocal cords swollen, but it wasn’t a serious problem.
There was no runny nose or fever, no need for injections or medicine. Considering she had been drinking just a few hours earlier, not needing medication was already the best outcome.
“What about her voice then?” Jiang Ying asked, clearly still worried, standing behind Wei Ke.
The elderly doctor, his hair already grey, smiled as he adjusted the gold-rimmed glasses sliding down his nose. “Just drink more warm water at home. That should do the trick.”
It was lunchtime by the time they left the hospital. Neither of them felt hungry yet, having just had some herbal soup. Jiang Ying took Wei Ke to a nearby shop to open a blind box. While driving, she also made a quick call to schedule the paternity test.
But what Wei Ke didn’t expect was that while they were browsing after the blind box session, they would run into Bai Ruoya at the entrance of their favorite shoe store. She was sitting inside trying on shoes. And the person helping her was none other than Wei Huan, who was always incredibly busy.
What a small world.
What was worth noting, however, was that the Salty Fish System did not issue any warnings this time.
Wei Ke stood outside the store, staring silently at Bai Ruoya’s smiling face. Her hands hung by her sides, clenched tightly. If the mall hadn’t been so noisy, Jiang Ying, who was standing right beside her, probably would have heard the sound of her knuckles cracking.
Jiang Ying, wearing sunglasses, couldn’t see Wei Huan kneeling in front of Bai Ruoya due to the angle. Just as she was about to walk inside, Wei Ke quickly pulled her back.
“Huh? What are you doing?” Jiang Ying asked, confused. “Weren’t you the one who said you wanted to buy shoes?”
“I changed my mind,” Wei Ke replied and turned to leave.
Jiang Ying quickly reached out and pulled her back. “But I want to buy something. We’re already here. Let’s just take a look.”
Wei Huan did not have the habit of requesting the store to close for private shopping, so the glass doors were wide open. Wei Ke kept her voice low on purpose, but Jiang Ying’s voice was loud enough to carry into the store.
Recognizing Jiang Ying’s voice, Wei Huan stood up after patting her knees, glanced outside, and walked toward them.
Jiang Ying turned around and was startled to see Wei Huan suddenly appear. She jumped slightly, patted her chest twice, then smiled quickly and greeted her. “Sister Huan, what a coincidence.”
Wei Huan saw that Jiang Ying looked like she couldn’t decide whether to take off her sunglasses or not, and gave a knowing smile. Then she looked at Wei Ke standing behind her.
“You came to buy shoes too? Perfect. Let your older sister treat you both. Come on in.”
“Thank you, Sister Huan,” Jiang Ying said without hesitation and pulled Wei Ke toward the store.
Wei Ke tried to resist, but couldn’t break free, so she followed.
She had hoped to avoid conflict. If she could avoid seeing them, she would. But then she remembered that Mid-Autumn Festival was coming soon. Regardless of the test results, she would have to return home for the holiday. If the system decided to throw another curveball at her that day, who knew what would happen.
She figured it was better to face it now. After all, there were plenty of people around. Surely Bai Ruoya wouldn’t do anything too outrageous in public.
However, Wei Ke underestimated the power of fate. Because the moment she came face-to-face with Bai Ruoya, the woman pretended to gag at the sight of her.
Wei Ke was speechless.
Jiang Ying looked confused.
Although Bai Ruoya quickly covered her mouth with her hand, the damage had already been done. Both Wei Ke and Jiang Ying, standing right in front of her, felt humiliated.
“Sister Huan, who is this?” Jiang Ying asked with a forced smile. The twitch at the end of her brow gave away her true feelings.
The mental strength Wei Ke had just managed to piece together began to fall apart after Bai Ruoya’s little act. “Seriously? Is she the Omega you’ve been talking about?”
Bai Ruoya had already been led to the washroom by a store assistant, leaving Wei Huan alone to answer the question.
“She’s my girlfriend, Bai Ruoya. I asked Ke to come home for dinner yesterday because I wanted to formally introduce her.”
Jiang Ying nodded with understanding, but Wei Ke couldn’t stop thinking about what had just happened.
“You brought her home yesterday? She met Mom and Dad? Why so sudden? I thought you said you weren’t planning on settling down before you turned thirty. And what was with the gagging? Is she okay?”
Hearing Wei Ke’s relentless questions, Jiang Ying’s eyes widened behind her sunglasses. Her imagination began to run wild, and the expression hidden beneath her shades slowly changed.
Wow, so she is getting married because of the baby and planning to take over the entire family business while pushing Wei Ke out?
Wei Ke did not care what Jiang Ying was thinking. She took off her sunglasses and looked directly at Wei Huan, waiting for her to give an answer.
Wei Huan looked as if she had been caught off guard. She quickly avoided Wei Ke’s gaze and turned her attention to the shoe rack behind her.
“Ke, your throat is not feeling well. Once you get better, I will talk to you about it. Just now, Ya Ya was not aiming that reaction at you. Try to understand. Why don’t you go ahead and pick out some shoes?”
“Maybe next time. I am not feeling well right now, so let’s forget it. You two can take your time shopping. Yingzi and I have something to do. We are heading out,” Wei Ke said, pulling Jiang Ying by the wrist and walking away without looking back.
In her previous life, when she met Bai Ruoya for the first time, she had been polite and kind.
But now, to make sure everything turned out differently from before, Wei Ke had to take the initiative and push their relationship into an awkward situation.
Once they entered the elevator leading to the underground parking garage, Wei Ke put her sunglasses back on and took off her mask.
Jiang Ying looked at her silently. She opened her mouth a few times but held back each time. Even after they got into the car, she still had not asked what she wanted to say.
Wei Ke knew what Jiang Ying was thinking. Watching her hesitate over and over made her uncomfortable, so she spoke first.
“You were right. It is because of that woman. That is why they do not want me anymore.”
“What?” Jiang Ying quietly pulled her hand away from the start button and then responded with a soft, “Oh.”
The car was quiet for a while. Jiang Ying stared at the steering wheel, her eyes moving back and forth. Suddenly, she clapped her hands and said, “A few days ago, Tian Wanwan told me a new restaurant opened that makes really good grilled fish. Want to try it?”
“You actually trust her recommendations?” Wei Ke gave her a sideways glance and adjusted her seatbelt. “That porridge place we went to last night was good. Let’s go there instead.”
Jiang Ying had only suggested the fish place to figure out where Wei Ke really wanted to go. Hearing her answer, she gave a quiet laugh and started the car.
When they arrived at the restaurant, they found it was just as popular as the night before. Many people clearly loved porridge.
Jiang Ying ordered the dish she had wanted to try last night. Wei Ke chose the lightest item from the health section on the menu.
While they waited for their food, Jiang Ying played with her phone out of boredom. When she looked up, she happened to see a girl walking past the window holding a sunflower. Her eyebrows immediately drew together in a frown.
Even though their mood was already affected by the run-in with Bai Ruoya and Wei Huan, Wei Ke noticed the sudden change in Jiang Ying’s expression and asked with mild concern, “What is it? Did one of your investment funds drop?”
Jiang Ying clicked her tongue and squinted at her. “I remember you do not like sunflowers. But this morning at your place, I thought I saw a vase with sunflowers on your TV cabinet. What is going on?”
