The Villainous Scum Alpha Was Reborn (GL) - Chapter 8
The onset of her annual sensitive period was like a pain that burned to the bone. It was a clash between the agitation that rose from deep within her soul and the overwhelming weakness that drained her body. Wei Ke felt as though she had been submerged in icy lake water, while her heart burned so hot it seemed like it could dry her frozen, soaked body in an instant. Her skin, muscles, and even her bones felt scorched, making it hard for her to breathe.
Just as she felt like she was on the verge of dying, a cold injection entered her bloodstream. It was gentle yet firm, soothing the heat that consumed her like a quiet stream extinguishing flames without a trace.
When Wei Ke opened her eyes, the sky outside was just beginning to lighten. The room around her felt familiar yet unfamiliar, making her feel disoriented.
For a brief moment, she wondered if she had somehow returned to that small hospital with questionable hygiene and whether everything that had happened earlier had just been a dream.
Then she noticed a fresh bouquet placed neatly on the bedside table. Next to the vase was the test result she had rolled up herself. Her phone was resting face down on top of the document, and the curled edge of the paper still bore faint ink marks, as if someone had written on it.
Wei Ke propped herself up and took the report in her hands. On the back of the page where the result was printed, someone had written a line in black pen.
Ke, my parents called me home. I had to leave first. Text me if anything comes up.
Wei Ke stared at the note silently.
She could not understand why Jiang Ying had to write something down when she could have just sent a message. But since she left the note on the report, it meant she had definitely seen the results.
Wei Ke let out a quiet sigh and felt a strange emptiness inside.
She had expected this outcome, but facing it in reality brought an entirely different feeling.
Last night, when she first saw the negative result, she felt dizzy and overwhelmed, like the world had tilted. Now, looking at it again, she felt strangely relieved. It was as if a part of her had always known, and now that it was confirmed, it finally made sense.
Both emotional responses she had predicted had come true. Her breakdown last night reflected her deep reluctance to let go of the past. Her calm this morning was her way of giving herself closure.
Wei Ke climbed out of bed, put on her shoes and the cardigan Jiang Ying had left behind, and took her phone and the report to the front desk. She was told that the bill had already been settled and she was free to go.
The eastern sky was still covered by heavy clouds, half gray and half glowing faintly.
Wei Ke stood by a flowerbed and turned to look back. The crisp air carried the scent of hospital disinfectant, cold and sobering.
Now that she had the result, the part of her that had kept struggling and looking back finally quieted down.
No connection was the best connection they could have now.
With the first light of morning ahead of her, Wei Ke walked out of the hospital toward her neighborhood. Every step she took was not only leading her home but also marking a new beginning.
However, that moment of peace did not last long. A new sense of unease began to rise in her chest.
She still could not get Bai Ruoya out of her mind.
Based on Bai Ruoya’s reaction yesterday and Wei Huan’s vague answers at lunch, Wei Ke could already guess most of the truth. Combined with memories from her previous life, her suspicions were nearly confirmed.
When an Alpha’s sensitive period begins, Omegas, as their natural counterpart, are highly sensitive to that shift and can usually sense it before it becomes dangerous. Bai Ruoya, who was pregnant, had encountered her during that sensitive moment and chose to provoke the situation rather than avoid it. Wei Ke could think of no other reason for that behavior than that Bai Ruoya was trying to use her in some way.
But what exactly was she trying to do?
On the surface, the baby clearly served as Bai Ruoya’s ticket into the Wei family. After five years of dating Wei Huan, this was her first time stepping into the house, and she came in carrying a pregnancy. Given Bai Ruoya’s intelligence, she surely understood what that meant.
But someone so smart, who knew how valuable that child was, actually let that baby die in the Wei family’s home, supposedly because of Wei Ke.
Why would she do that?
Wei Ke walked while trying to piece together the truth behind Bai Ruoya’s strange actions in her previous life.
Could it be that Bai Ruoya only wanted to use the pregnancy to push Wei Ke out of the family, making Wei Huan the only heir?
But Bai Ruoya had never shown any interest in the family fortune. After graduation, she gave up the chance to work at her own family’s company. She had always acted like she did not care about any of it.
And even if that were her plan, why would she assume that an unborn child could make Wei Ke’s parents abandon the daughter they had raised for over twenty years?
What exactly did she know?
Or maybe everything that happened later had not been her original intention. Maybe she had only pushed the first domino and then things spiraled beyond her control.
So what had she wanted in the beginning?
As Wei Ke stood at the crosswalk waiting for the light to change, she looked up and took two deep breaths. Sunlight was starting to break through the clouds.
Lowering her head again, a sudden realization hit her. She slapped her forehead and smiled bitterly. She had overcomplicated things.
Bai Ruoya’s original goal was to get rid of her own child by using Wei Ke’s hands to do it.
Why would anyone want to get rid of a healthy baby?
The problem must have been with the child.
She remembered back in college, there had been an Omega who got legally bonded to her Alpha during sophomore year and became pregnant in senior year. Wei Ke and Jiang Ying had been on friendly terms with her at the time, and they had heard plenty about all the things to watch for during early pregnancy.
She recalled that it usually took three or four months to detect whether a fetus was healthy. Could Bai Ruoya’s flat stomach really be three or four months along?
And if the baby did have issues, would Wei Huan not have found out by now?
So that possibility could probably be ruled out. Which meant the child was fine, but the mother believed there was a problem. Most likely, the issue was with Bai Ruoya herself.
Wei Ke had once chatted with Wei Huan about her future plans. At the time, her sister had clearly stated that she did not plan to marry before turning thirty and would not consider having a child within three years of marriage.
Wei Huan was someone who liked to control every part of her life. Whether out of love or strategy, she would not let her plans be disrupted so easily.
Wei Ke had a strong feeling now. That child was not her sister’s.
In her past life, she had trusted her family too much and let her guard down around Bai Ruoya. That was how she had fallen into her trap. Later, anger clouded her judgment, and her attempts to fight back became increasingly reckless.
Now that she had a second chance, she had to be careful. More careful than ever.
With that conclusion in mind, Wei Ke hesitated.
Should she tell her sister?
But she had no proof. Even if she said something, Wei Huan and their parents would not believe her. What good would it do?
She instinctively wanted to prove she was not the problem. That Bai Ruoya was the one lying.
But then she paused and asked herself.
Wasn’t that the same mindset she had before?
She had not been reborn to walk the same road all over again, and her system would never allow that either.
Wei Ke gave a bitter smile and shook her head before stepping to the curb and raising her hand to hail a taxi.
Your last thought was risky, but you corrected it in time. This system has decided to reward you again.
Wei Ke froze. “Why do you always appear out of nowhere?”
Reward details are as follows: Cut ties with the Wei family before the Mid-Autumn Festival. Upon completion, you will receive five luck points and one hundred thousand yuan in cash.
Wei Ke let out a sarcastic laugh. “This is clearly just another task.”
This was a wish you made before your rebirth.
“So what?”
So you need to fulfill it. Friendly reminder: failure to complete the task will result in penalties.
Wei Ke’s face darkened. “Fine. What about the reward from last time? Why hasn’t it arrived yet?”
The one luck point from last time has been credited. As for the cash reward, you previously said you didn’t care for it, so it’s still marked as pending. You need to claim it manually.
After giving the driver an address and settling into the back seat of the taxi, Wei Ke continued the argument in her mind. “Since you’re all about user experience, I hope that one day, when you decide to punish me, you’ll at least respect how I feel about it.”
As long as you stick to your beliefs, you will never be punished.
Wei Ke looked at her phone screen just in time to see the notification that ten thousand yuan had been credited to her account. The corner of her mouth twitched. This system 880 still felt like the coldest, most unfeeling one she had ever met.
When she got home, she stuffed the test result into a drawer in the study, made herself a cup of low-sugar coffee, and sat down at her desk to begin researching the legal process for an adult to change their name and how to update property ownership afterward.
The name change itself was not complicated. The hassle lay in transferring ownership of the assets under her name. It was not hard, but it was extremely tedious.
She would need help. Tian Wanwan had experience with this kind of thing, so she could arrange to have lunch with her and ask for some advice.
After planning her day, Wei Ke pulled out the ID card she had been using for the past eight years from the wallet tossed on her desk. The photo on it was taken shortly after her secondary gender had stabilized. Her expression was proud but youthful.
Time really was a strange thing.
Leaving the study, she was about to head to the main bedroom to take a shower and change, but for some reason, Jiang Ying’s comment from the day before came to mind. She had said Wei Ke did not like sunflowers. That thought made her pause and turn toward the living room instead.
The sunflowers still looked vibrant, with only one petal having fallen. They would probably last another three or four days.
Wei Ke tilted her head and stared for a while. The longer she looked, the more puzzled she felt. Why had she never noticed how beautiful sunflowers could be?
It really was true. People changed.
She picked off the fallen petal and smiled as she walked back to her bedroom.
This apartment had been a coming-of-age gift from Xu Bingzhi and Wei Hongbo after she turned eighteen. It was in her name, Wei Ke. The original purchase price had been over fourteen million yuan. It was a top-floor duplex, nearly seven hundred square meters across two levels. It was not bought as early as Jiang Ying’s, and originally, she had hoped to buy a unit in the same complex as her friend. But by then, all the top-floor units had been sold, so she went with this new building when it launched.
While showering, she began to wonder whether she should return the apartment. But she hesitated. She had grown used to living here. It was filled with things she had collected over the years. Moving everything would be such a hassle.
Yet if she did not return it, she did not want to hear people call her ungrateful behind her back.
By the time she finished her shower, she had come up with a compromise.
She would repay the money instead. That way, no one would have to be inconvenienced.
Aside from the apartment, she also had a car she had been driving for two years. It had been a gift from Wei Huan—a matcha green C20. She had not gone with her sister to buy it, but Jiang Ying had told her the price was probably a little over two hundred twenty thousand. She wasn’t sure of the exact number, so if she paid it back, she would just add a bit more to be safe.
Stepping out of the bathroom, she already had a rough plan in mind. She currently had about thirty to forty million in liquid funds that she could access freely. That would be more than enough to cover the cost of one apartment and one car.
Besides, she did not intend to calculate everything based on current market prices. After all the emotional and psychological damage, she had endured, that should at least cancel out the interest.
