- Chapter 1.30(2) - The Fairy Kingdom - Part 2
“Stop, Tornea!”
The Grand Marshal grabbed his wife, restraining her. But in that brief moment, Lufenya did not miss her chance. She once again dissolved into mist, and the swirling smoke slipped into Lady Olden’s body.
“Mother!”
Possessing Lady Olden, Lufenya immediately resumed her attacks, sending out razor-sharp wind blades. The Grand Marshal, being the closest, couldn’t evade them entirely—bl00d began spilling from his ear and thigh.
Louise’s brothers quickly formed a magical shield around their mother, but whether it was the power of the enchanted sword or Lufenya’s sheer strength, the barriers shattered one after another.
“I’ll do it!”
Dahlia stepped forward, casting a particularly strong defensive spell. Cracks formed under Lufenya’s assault, but she quickly repaired them, successfully containing her within the shield. Seeing this, everyone else who could use defensive magic reinforced the barrier, layering multiple shields over Lady Olden.
Even so, they wouldn’t hold for long.
“Geoffrey!”
Geoffrey hesitated for a moment but then dispelled the barrier around me. I rushed to the Grand Marshal’s side and began casting healing magic.
He had already lost too much bl00d—his eyes remained closed.
(But he’s still alive!)
Suddenly, a thick earthen wall rose beside me.
“Hey! You’re blocking me in!”
I turned to see Luca and Leonhart standing next to me. Their eyes seemed to say, Look who’s talking.
“Earth magic can at least stop those wind blades!”
“Less talking, more focusing!”
Honestly, I was relieved. While casting healing magic, I couldn’t use any other spells. And I was terrified—Lufenya was still thrashing against the barriers nearby, threatening to break free at any moment.
The Grand Marshal’s wounds were healing well, but he still wasn’t waking up. With help from Luca and Leonhart, we dragged his large frame away from the battlefield, as far to the edge of the hall as possible.
“Lydiana, can you do it?”
“You want me to draw her out?”
My uncle approached, casting another layer of defensive magic.
“How?”
“Force high-density healing magic into her body at maximum output. Imagine pushing out an unnatural presence rather than breaking it apart.”
“Like extracting poison?”
“Exactly. But instead of breaking it down, we force it out through sheer magical pressure.”
“Understood.”
Even in this dire moment, my uncle smiled. So did my father. Their trust in me filled me with pride.
“Alright, everyone, let’s reset!”
The layered barriers around Lady Olden were released, and new magical restraints were placed on her arms and legs.
She wasn’t struggling as violently as before. The attacks she had endured seemed to be taking a toll.
Accompanied by my father and uncle, I stepped closer to Lady Olden.
“AARRRGHHH!!”
She had lost all ability to form words—now, she was pure rage and hatred.
Just as my uncle had done before, I placed my hand on Lady Olden and channeled an immense surge of healing magic into her.
At first, it seemed to be working.
But Lufenya resisted with everything she had.
I managed to force more than half of her out before reaching a stalemate.
(I can’t fail!)
I couldn’t afford to lose in a battle of sheer magical power—if anything, that was my specialty. But my vision was starting to blur. My strength was fading.
“Lady Lydiana… thank you for everything you’ve done for my daughter. Please continue to watch over her.”
Lady Olden’s voice.
Now that Lufenya had been partially expelled, she had regained consciousness.
“Helga! Release my right arm!”
“Mother?!”
“Hurry!”
Her freed hand still gripped the enchanted sword.
No—she wouldn’t!
“I don’t care about your grudge! Now disappear!”
With all her might, she drove the fairy-slaying sword into her own chest.
At that instant, Lufenya was violently expelled from her body.
The impact sent me flying as well, but my father caught me just in time.
And with one final, agonized scream—
Lufenya vanished.
◇◇◇
(I have to move! I have to help!)
I could see my uncle desperately casting healing magic on Lady Olden. But he was already near his limit.
I, too, could barely keep myself upright—my father was holding me up.
(Luca is crying… No! We can’t let Louise believe her mother died for her!)
But no matter how much I willed myself forward, my body refused to respond.
(What was all my training for if I can’t act in this moment?!)
I bit my lip hard, forcing back tears.
“Switch out!”
A familiar voice.
“Sasha!”
My mother strode into the room, heading straight for Lady Olden.
(It’s okay now… she’ll take care of it…)
That was my last thought before I lost consciousness.
