The Villainous Young Lady Would Even Risk Her Life for Her Beloved ~ Her Fiancé, the Prince? By All Means, Please Be Happy with the Heroine! - Chapter 1.32
The Lias territory was quite far from the royal capital. That meant the journey itself was a challenge. I had never given much thought to travel before since the Flores territory wasn’t too far from the capital, but now… I desperately needed a car. Or even an airplane. Maybe I should have asked for one as a birthday present. My back and rear were reaching their limits—I wanted to meet my favorite person in peak condition.
(Maybe road paving should be a priority too…?)
There was no end to the things that needed improvement.
“I just wish we could fly straight there.”
“If only we had Pegasus.”
“I heard they existed up until about a hundred years ago.”
Inside the carriage were the usual members—me, Luca, Prince Leonhart, Jeffrey, Eliza, and Marcus, Prince Leonhart’s knight escort. The carriage was large, but honestly, it still felt cramped.
(Pegasus… Iris’s beloved steed.)
Iris lived in a village within the Lias territory—a village protected by a special barrier that ordinary people couldn’t enter. Every year, Prince Leonhart traveled to the Lias territory in search of her, but he was never able to meet her until they both entered the academy. That village also housed several Pegasus, which were believed to be extinct, and Iris adored them.
“We do have Flying Dragons.”
“But I heard Flying Dragons only allow their chosen riders.”
“According to Finley, they’re currently researching whether Flying Dragons could be used to pull carriages through the air.”
That was practically an airplane! As expected of Finley-sama. He was amazing! He understood everything! A genius!
“Yes, exactly! They’re discussing whether they can make the carriage compartment float!”
Luca was talking excitedly, which meant it had something to do with magic tools. It seemed the boys had all been exchanging letters with Finley-sama. I was so jealous.
The Lias territory was home to Flying Dragons that allowed humans to ride them. They were slightly larger than horses, but wild Flying Dragons were aggressive and highly intelligent, making them classified as dangerous magical beasts.
However, generations of Lias lords had selectively bred them over many years. Even so, they were still not considered entirely safe, so they were prohibited from entering the royal capital.
In the original story, they appeared as if it were nothing, but as a fan, knowing the hardships behind the scenes made it all the more meaningful.
(Finley-sama’s cherished Flying Dragon was supposed to be pure white—gentle, majestic, and divine in appearance.)
That was what it was supposed to be… but…
“Let me introduce you! This is my cherished Flying Dragon, Filmer.”
“You already have a Flying Dragon!?”
“That’s so cool!”
“A black Flying Dragon… how rare!”
The three boys were excited, completely enthralled by the sight of the Flying Dragon. As for me—my heart, which had been soaring at the sight of Finley-sama welcoming us, suddenly plummeted.
Standing beside Finley-sama was a relatively small, young black Flying Dragon.
“Sorry! I know it’s a bit scary.”
“No! Not at all!”
Oh no! I made Finley-sama worry about me. He must have noticed my change in expression.
That black Flying Dragon—it had to be the same one from the original story. Black Flying Dragons were said to be incredibly rare. And that scar on its forehead—it was undoubtedly one of the Flying Dragons Lydia had commanded. A fearsome and violent creature…
“I just couldn’t return to the capital until I trained him properly. I needed to make sure he’d never attack humans, even if I’m not around.”
“That’s incredible! You can train them to follow commands that well?”
“Yeah. Though no one but their chosen rider can mount them, they strictly obey orders. Surprisingly loyal, actually.”
A responsible Finley-sama was the best!!!
“It’s extremely rare for someone this young to be chosen by a Flying Dragon!”
The one speaking so proudly was Finley-sama’s older brother, Fred. Since he was Finley-sama’s brother, I had wondered if he might resemble him as an adult, but it seemed that Fred took after their father, while Finley-sama took after their mother.
“Black Flying Dragons are notoriously difficult to tame, so they are often put down. But for some reason, this one opened its heart to Finley.”
“I guess I just found him endearing—he reminded me of Lydia, so I couldn’t help but look after him.”
As Finley-sama chuckled, I barely managed to keep my composure. Overdosing on my favorite person after such a long time was overwhelming. But I couldn’t afford to lose control in front of his family. I couldn’t let them think poorly of me—I couldn’t let Finley-sama feel embarrassed because of me.
But… but…!
(What the heck!? Why does he look so flustered!?)
My mind was practically screaming.
“He certainly has a strong presence.”
Prince Leonhart nodded in agreement—not out of jealousy, but in genuine understanding.
How annoying! Normally, I would’ve snapped at him, but right now, I didn’t care. I was too overjoyed that Finley-sama had thought of me while he was here.
Fred, on the other hand, seemed a bit flustered by his brother’s words. After all, Finley had just casually admitted to associating his fiancée with a fierce and dangerous Flying Dragon.
“Are Flying Dragons without masters really put down…?”
Luca murmured sadly.
“Yes. We do everything we can to prevent it, but there are still some that refuse to submit. For safety reasons, we have no choice.”
The Lias family focused so much on Flying Dragons because of defense. Their territory contained a monster-infested forest, and human forces alone were not enough to protect it. Even with high walls, there were still plenty of flying magical beasts. Flying Dragons gave them control over the skies, providing a significant advantage in battle and reducing human casualties.
The Lias family fought desperately to protect their land. That was why they couldn’t afford to keep dangerous Flying Dragons near human settlements.
“Recently, we’ve started training young Flying Dragons to carry cargo. Even those that refuse to take a rider will still follow commands!”
“It turns out that having a rider isn’t the only way to prove one’s bond. My brother is a genius!”
The two of them were excitedly discussing it. Perhaps this was where the idea for flying carriages—or rather, Flying Dragon-drawn air carriages—had originated.
In the end, we spent the entire afternoon watching the Flying Dragons. While I was interested in the Flying Dragons themselves, I mostly just wanted to keep watching Finley-sama talk about them. Everyone else seemed to enjoy observing them from their own perspectives.
“This is my first time touching a live Flying Dragon. Its scales feel a bit different from when they’re processed into armor.”
Since Flying Dragon scales were light and durable, they were often used to make armor and shields.
Although Prince Leonhart had visited the Lias territory every year, today was the first time he had been allowed to touch a Flying Dragon. Sadly, it was clear that the Lias family’s attitude toward him had changed since he gained the backing of the Flores family. Of course, Finley-sama himself had always treated him the same way!
Prince Leonhart didn’t seem to mind, but something about it felt a little bittersweet. I decided to tease him like usual.
“Prince Leonhart! Don’t say things like that in front of Flying Dragon enthusiasts!”
He smirked at my exaggerated tone—he could tell I was being considerate.
“It’s fine, Liddy. Flying Dragons are the backbone of our territory. Whether wild or domesticated, we do our best to ensure they’re not wasted if they pass away.”
Finley-sama must have noticed too. He explained everything with his usual gentle smile.
They understood not only the practicalities of survival, but also the weight of life itself.
“I sincerely apologize… I didn’t consider the full picture. How thoughtless of me.”
“Not at all! I appreciate that you care.”
(Ahhh—!)
My heart was about to explode.
The Finley-sama Meter that had been withering away was now rising rapidly. And, as always, I could feel Prince Leonhart’s exasperated gaze on me once again.
“How much weight can they carry?”
Geoffrey seemed interested in the Flying Dragons’ capabilities. He probably wanted to compare the information with what he had read in books.
“They had no problem carrying ten sacks of wheat. When we harnessed two together, they managed thirty sacks!”
“Amazing! This will revolutionize the transportation of goods!”
Through the air, they could travel in a straight line without worrying about road conditions. They would be able to deliver cargo at speeds no horse-drawn cart could match.
“Hey, if we mounted a camera on a Flying Dragon and recorded the landscape, wouldn’t we be able to create maps in no time?”
It was almost like a drone. He must have remembered the conversation I had with Luca before.
“Even skilled artists would struggle to draw mid-air. That could be really useful.”
The conversation—and our dreams—expanded even further. And this was just the first day. Things were already shaping up to be quite eventful.
“Lady Lydiana, it’s time to prepare for dinner.”
At Eliza’s call, everyone quickly dispersed.
It seemed an incredibly fun summer was about to begin.
