- Chapter 10.1 - As Long As She Doesn't Know, It Won't Be Disrespectful, Right?
By the time Ning Yao went to the Central Intent Courtyard, it was already past midnight. Not only was Chu Xiao there, but Ning Yuzhu was also present.
She was quite happy. “Perfect, everyone’s here. Let’s have the meeting now so we don’t have to gather again tomorrow.”
Ning Yuzhu slouched in his chair, his tone far from pleasant. “I say, Mountain Master, if you love staying up late, no one can stop you, but can you have some mercy on us who don’t stay up late? Don’t you know it’s really bad for your skin?”
Ning Yao had never spoiled him. “If you don’t want to join, then don’t. I won’t call you for meetings next time.”
Ning Yuzhu glared at Ning Yao in anger but couldn’t say anything. He was curious, though. Ning Yao must have a special reason for holding a meeting at midnight, and Chu Xiao had just returned from the foot of the mountain. He was sure that he was hiding something. But not wanting to leave yet, Ning Yuzhu just stared at them, then picked up a jade disc and started rolling it on his face.
Ning Yao moved a chair to the center and sat down, casually placing her feet on the edge and resting her hands on her knees. “I have three things to say. I’ll finish first, and then you can give your opinions.”
“First, I want to ascend. Feng Jingzhu also wants to ascend. This is only beneficial for both of us. I’ll help him, and he’ll help me in return. We’ll become family, and from now on, we’ll all treat him as one of us. So, this will be the last time we hold a meeting without him. In the future, we’ll invite him too.”
“Second, he doesn’t have dragon marrow and can’t cultivate. I am planning to give him the Nine Yin Cold Spirit Herb so that his spiritual power won’t be too low to kill me.”
“Third, this is more like a rule. If the ascension works, once the Cangyuan Dragon Clan becomes gods, they will forget everything from before their ascension. If someone forces them to remember, it will harm their brain. So, when we meet them in the divine realm, treat them like strangers and don’t disturb them.”
After she finished, the room was silent.
Ning Yuzhu was the first to speak up. “I have no objections to anything, but I have one thing to say. I think Jingzhu looks pretty good. Can he come live with me? I can’t get used to living with Lao Jie.”
Jie Zhongyi slapped the back of Ning Yuzhu’s head. “You want to live in the Mountain Master’s room? Who do you think you are?”
Ning Yao didn’t mind. “It doesn’t matter who lives in that broken room. I’m fine with staying in my sister’s room. You guys discuss it. I have no opinion.”
This was agreed on. It was something they had discussed with Jie Zhongyi, so he didn’t object. Ning Yao turned to look at Chu Xiao.
Chu Xiao was sitting cross-legged on the doorframe, his fist supporting his chin, pushing his cheekbones up. “Yao Yao, I have a couple of things to say.”
He said, “This concerns a piece of gossip I overheard. Before I go into it, I want to ask you, do you know why Feng Jingzhu was exiled from Cangyuan?”
Ning Yao replied, “I heard it was because of being implicated in a conspiracy.”
“Implication,” Chu Xiao repeated. “Alright, remember that. It’ll come up later. When I was down the mountain, I met a member of the Cangyuan Dragon Clan who claimed to be surnamed Feng.”
What?!
Ning Yao and Jie Zhongyi leaned forward, and Ning Yuzhu put down his jade disc, moved a chair over, and sat eagerly.
With three pairs of eyes focused on him, Chu Xiao continued, “I saw him in an underground black market. He was being sold as meat. Not meat he was selling, but he was being chopped into pieces and sold, three silver coins per pound of meat. When I found him, he was almost just a skeleton with barely any breath left.”
***
In the underground black market, if you’re quick, you can find valuable items, buy them cheap, and sell them for a good profit to help support the mountain, so Chu Xiao would often go there for a stroll.
That day, he arrived late and saw the dragon, who had little meat left.
Chu Xiao frowned and squatted down to check. The vendor yawned. “Top-grade dragon meat, very nourishing, three silver coins per pound.”
The dragon weakly glanced at him, mouthing the words, “Don’t eat me.”
Chu Xiao stood up and looked at the vendor seriously. “How much for the whole thing?”
The vendor quickly responded, “Twenty taels of silver for the whole thing, meat and bones included.”
Chu Xiao squatted back down, whispering, “I don’t have money.”
The dragon stared at him blankly.
“But I can fight for you and bear the pain, but I won’t be able to care for you while doing it.”
After that, Chu Xiao grabbed the dragon and ran off.
Although it was a tough fight, with his cultivation, it wasn’t too hard. He tore a hole and broke through.
When they reached a safe place, the dragon propped itself up, transformed into a human shape, and spoke to him. “Why… did you save me?”
Chu Xiao replied, “My ancestors taught me well.”
The man smiled weakly, giving his name. “My surname is Feng.”
Chu Xiao casually replied, “My surname is Mu.”
He leaned closer and asked, “I’m sorry if this is rude, but how did a Cangyuan Dragon end up like this?”
The man was surprised and looked at him for a moment before asking, “Are you from the Bodhi Clan?”
Chu Xiao was a bit surprised.
Seeing his confusion, the man explained, “Those who can sense each other are of ancient bloodlines. There aren’t many ancient bloodlines left. The Cangyuan Dragon Clan and the Beiming Xuanwu Clan are among them. The Bodhi Clan is one of the few, and only those with strong cultivation have such abilities.”
Chu Xiao felt a bit proud but pretended to be humble. “Ah, well… not really, actually, we…”
The man grabbed Chu Xiao’s hand, speaking each word with great difficulty. “I… don’t have much time left. You must listen carefully.”
